Just outside of downtown main street you've got your larger chain stores and chain restaurants. Many places for parking downtown and how fun to see the Amtrac at the Visitors Center. There's many great parks to enjoy as well. The kids used to love Yowell Meadows park but they're all grown up now. And the mountains in your backdrop are spectacular from Rte 522. I should come by more often. The change is good.

I am at the mercy of a lazy delivery driver who refuses to do anything past the actual mailbox. Forcing me to go pick the package up from the local office. This is ridiculous, I should not have to go through this, I want to know what I have to do to ensure my package gets to my fricking front door step.

The standouts for me though are the gorgeous formal gardens and the amazing views across the river to historic old town Fredericksburg. There is no bad time to visit but early spring for cherry blossoms, daffodils, tulips and dogwoods and late spring for Iris and peonies (and the early roses) are my favorite times to visit. Parking is free, the gardens are free and the museum is a suggested donation.

Other than the colorful exterior, this government establishment is rather nondescript. One feature I liked was the circular driveway around the building that had a drive by mailbox on one side. It's right off the highway, so there can be some traffic at times, and the parking lot is small. You can tell the architects of this project were concerned with function over appeal. But for a post office, it does the job! Inside was typical of most post office interiors with one fabulous exception: it had a bookcase full of books for patrons to take a book or leave a book! Thanks for promoting literacy! Although most of the books on the shelves were romantic fiction, there were a few other titles mixed in! Talk about reading "letters"!! So how cool is that?
