I get a kick out of the fact that this place seconds as a Christian Bookstore; not sure what the New Testament would have to say about this as not much separates a box of cards from a lotto ticket these days. I'm pretty sure Jesus would preach set-building over chasing hits, but hey your "addiction" is my "hobby." Look, DJ does everything right - you know it and I know it. The service is top-notch, even warm & loving (see: Christian bookstore). DJ has that kind of calming slouch of a man who knows his trade and knows what matters in life. You can almost see him as some reclusive clock-maker in a Victorian novel that pops up in a moment of heightened stress for the main character, there to show you what a less stressful, more humble life can really mean. I mean, the guy even offers all customers free sodas. He also has a lovely staff, providing a nice cross-section of America's disappearing middle class: the husky-voiced rough-around-the-edges manager who in another generation you'd find passed out a horse-track, the high school girl on her laptop who couldn't care less about sports, some puppy-faced twentysomething they give the job of carrying boxes to. Even the products themselves are authentic; it's not just a sterile wall of sealed product, but corners of his store have a mess of poorly sorted memorabilia guaranteed to make you smile. It's like someone filled up a U-Haul with a basement from 1997, down to the last Jay Buhner bobble-head. I'm taking a point off because he inflates the cost of his singles quite a bit. Stuff you can get on eBay for $2 (incl shipping) he'll mark as $8-10 -- not sure what that pricing strategy is when everyone has eBay sold lists in their pocket. But he also has ample quarter boxes that make up for the inflation in other parts of the store. read more

Can't lie, this place was awesome! I have been reading about it for a while and we finally had a chance to stop in when we were running over to a friend's place in the area. The selection here was really solid. Not the best I've ever seen, but They had just bought everything we were looking for! There was tons of new stuff, lots of junk wax air products for those who love to rip older product, and a great selection of singles. They had just bought every sport you could find, and even some pretty solid non-licensed stuff. We met the owner and he really was a nice dude who provided some excellent service. One really cool thing that they do here is having a kids club where once a month, kids could bring in there punchcard and they get a two dollar card for free. It can also be applied to other selections such as Pokémon cards, memorabilia, or a Lego figurine. It's sort of a one stop shop! This is definitely a place. We will be stopping in the future. We really enjoyed the selection, being able to look around at a lot of good cards, and bantering with the guys there who obviously really enjoy what they do. Stay away! I won some cards on Whatnot and it was shipped. I emailed them saying it has shown it was in LA for like three days. They told me to wait and that it showed it moved the day before but that was not true. I bought the cards on 1/24/2025. It arrived in LA on 1/30 and has not moved. As a former Newcastle resident, I used to pass this place weekly coming in and out of Renton via Coal Creek, Duvall Road, it was nested next to Penelope's Country Flower Shop. Penelope's has been a Subway for some time, and I'm not sure when DJ's relocated to this location, but I am going to assume this location may be larger than the last based on what I believed the former shop to be. This was my first stop; I was never a collector until last year. My sister passed away and amongst her things were about 75 cards of big names in good condition from the late 80's. I have since come to find out these cards are tagged as Junk Wax Era, but with names like Bo Jackson, Jose Conseco, Mark McGuire and others, I'm a fan. I decided to honor my sister by making a binder. Not knowing a thing about the hobby, I bought what looked like a nice binder. When it arrived, it was much larger than anticipated, it holds about 375 cards, but the size discrepancy came from the fact that it's a top loader binder. So, over the past 10 months, I have bought penny sleeves, top loaders and if you can believe it. 30,000 Junk Wax Era baseball cards. In that same amount of time, I have watched at least 300 YouTube videos about the hobby, the era and values. The best advice I got was take out the big-name rookie cards, and Hall of Famers. I'm still in the process of doing this, because everything I do turns into an education and it's amazing to find players I either never heard of or wasn't aware of were star caliber are in the Hall from this period. This was my first time every in a card shop and it was overwhelming. Cards everywhere, as you would expect. To be honest, I came in to ask questions, but ended up buying about 15 cards. The first person I spoke to didn't instill confidence. I don't recall what I asked, but I thought it was a softball question and he struck out. Eventually, I asked someone else a question and got respectable answers. As I continued to wander around, a guy approached me and asked if he could give me the 30 second tour/explanation of the store layout. It caught me by surprise, but it was welcoming and I needed that as I was confused up until that point. As you can imagine, things change often, they had a section that focused on current NBA Playoffs, smart, but obviously seasonal. I was interested in Sonics era basketball, but as you can imagine, pickings were slim. We love our Sonics and outside of some high value cards, there was not much to choose from. Ironically, when I checked out, I checked out with the first guy, who didn't appear all that on it. Could be that he works the register because he's not a Subject Matter Expert yet, but he was really good on the register, He asked me about sleaves, top loaders and other items that I would assume either the new or confused may overlook. I told him I was good, but again, it wasn't that I was being sold, he really impressed upon me that he didn't want me leaving the shop without having everything I needed to complete my project. I shop in a lot of places for a lot of things but can tell you this place had the best service. I expected a lot of snotty people that looked down on me for not knowing the sport or hobby and found the opposite. People excited and enthusiastic about sharing their wisdom. I don't do this often from a 1st visit, but I am going to bless these guys with a 5. Even though someone tried to shame me recently for my frequency of 1-Star reviews, as I explained, 1=Not Good, so step up your game like these guys and earn your stripes. Again, I'm no expert on prices, but for the most part, I'll say they were competitive. Yes, I have seen lower process online, but these weren't far off and for me, the ability to walk into a local store, not have to wait for slow shipping and processing and also be able to see and handle the product is worth it. I purchased a few cards from COMC in mid March, they just arrived a week ago! How does it take you 2 months to ship 3 cards? Again, not to knock anyone, but you won't have that issue here. read more

This shop can become addicting because there's so much to choose from, at extremely fair market values. I am also realistic. I have been to collectors corner in Bellevue, shanes cards, millcreek, west coast sportscards, and card exchange in Seattle, Djs is by far the best. Not only do they have a huge selection of all sorts of cards, they also have legos, signed memorabilia, minifigures, and old collectibles. A highlight was to see a Jackie Robinson and Hank Aaron rookie card recently- simply awesome.
