    Table at DJ Kitchen

I really wanted to like D.J. Kitchen. The menu reads well -- fish, collard greens, black beans, spicy shrimp wontons sounds like a solid, satisfying meal. But what showed up at my door told a very different story. Let's start with the fish. Twenty-one dollars. I counted the pieces. There weren't many. For that price at a soul food or fusion spot in this city, you expect a real portion -- something that fills the plate and justifies the cost. This didn't come close. The collard greens and black beans were passable but completely unmemorable. No depth of flavor, nothing that suggested they were made with any particular care or seasoning. The spicy shrimp wontons were honestly the best part of the meal -- but "best part" here means they were just okay. Average. The kind of thing you forget about by the next morning. I don't leave negative reviews lightly, but when a restaurant charges premium prices and delivers bargain-bin portions and flavor, people deserve to know before they spend their money. D.J. Kitchen has the right idea on paper. The kitchen just isn't backing it up. Would I go back? Not at these prices and portion sizes -- no. Want me to add a specific neighborhood, date of order, or delivery platform mention to make either one feel more authentic?

traveled to philly for a basketball tournament, and needed to get a bite to eat after a day of traveling . so let me just start off by saying ... this is a dressed up chinese spot . so we walked in and were immediately seated. our "server" (& i use that term lightly) comes and hands a tablet with no direction . so the tablet is literally the menu and where you order from. okay. so we ordered our food. my daughter got the chicken lo mein and a milk boba tea. i ordered an egg drop soup, chicken and broccoli, and a fresh lemonade. my entree comes out first. the chicken and broccoli was just okay . the broccoli was literally the star of the dish bc the chicken was not seasoned at all. after almost eating my meal , i realized i hadn't gotten my soup. the "sever" said they were in the back making , which was a fib. he forgot bc i saw him scoop the soup from the pot it was in. i did try my daughter's lo mein , and that was good . and the lemonade was fresh , just hot . the actual restaurant itself is pretty nice on the inside . it's in the city center and they have a free parking garage . i wasn't very impressed, so can't say that i'd be returning it i ever visited philly again.

    Hair in food

HAIR IN MY FOOD I went to DJ Kitchen on City Avenue in Philadelphia on Sunday, March 1, 2026 and ordered a simple meal (chicken lomein and General Tso's chicken with white rice). I ordered take out. I went home, plated my food and began eating. Two to three bites in I discovered a long strand of hair in my food. It was dangling from a piece of chicken I was about to eat. I immediately took the hair, which was intertwined in rice, and laid it on a napkin to see what it was. I took a few pictures. I called DJ Kitchen several times (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) to request a refund because I could not eat the food. My calls and voicemail messages were ignored. It is not convenient for me to go back and return the food (I put it all back in the containers). I will try to go back to the store and show them the hair they left in my food. I doubt they will refund my $30+. But that was my last visit.

Our first meal in Philadelphia! It definitely didn't disappoint. We really enjoyed the beef and noodles, but the string beans weren't the best. I also got a thai tea, which was really good except the boba was a little hard.

Super authentic Asian food! I was in a party of 4. We all ordered different apps and entrees, and everything was very good! You order from iPads which is nice! It was also easy for us to all order and pay separately since we were on a work trip! Service was efficient. They are byob which is always nice! We did. It bring drinks, so I'm not sure if there is a corking fee or not. I would definitely recommend DJ Kitchen!

i'm a little mixed about this establishment. I ordered the veggie spring rolls, and the veggie fried rice. the fried rice was actually great (i'm quite picky about fried rice) but it had lots of stringy egg. the spring rolls I LOVED!! BUT they were so tiny!!! so so tiny! and for the price, there are better finds for spring rolls that aren't so tiny! other wise, great place! I haven't eaten in so I wouldn't know about the restaurant itself and I am only speaking on the food I ordered! I did like how many vegetable options there was since I am vegetarian. will go back- but will try to order something more bang for buck!

This schezuan Chinese restaurant is a gem near Philadelphia College of osteopathic medicine (PCOM). Everything on this menu is fresh delicious and good. The service is excellent! We had one of the most tastiest wonton soups I ever had. The egg drop soup was also very good. The scallion pancakes are second to none. The crispy cheese wontons were ok. The dumplings in chili oil were tasty. The fried rice dish and lo mein dishes were also very tasty. My favorite dishes were the cold sesame noodles with a little spice very delicious, the potatoes peppers and eggplant dish excellent and the long peppers with chicken excellent! Like I said everything I ordered was excellent. I would definitely be back! One of my favorite Chinese restaurants!

Have eaten here a few times and I've become a real fan. Hidden along City Ave behind Chipotle, the dining room is surprisingly never crowded even though you should definitely eat in. The entrees are $12-35 depending on what you get, but the chef knows how to prepare high quality Chinese food. This is way above the typical Chinese American takeout place. We recommend the spicy beef noodle soup as something to try to start but come back and explore their menu.

(Note: if you only want smaller serving of their great, thick noodles, order $4 add-on as a side in place of rice with regular dish.) I always have leftovers to enjoy at home. Dumpling orders are large and shareable. (Always 6 or 8 pieces.) My fave when dining in is amazingly delicious and huge Fish Fillet in Hot and Sour Cabbage Broth. (That's best with rice side to help absorb broth.) So good and healthful to balance the dough density of whatever dumplings you might also order -- they're all great. When getting order to go (or delivered) I like Kung Pao Chicken; it travels well. Order added green veggie dish for sharing -- I lean toward Chinese Broccoli; you'll really want the balance with the delicious dumpling and noodle dishes. I do prefer the shrimp to be more plump & flavorful, & my favorite ones tend to have sauces other than soy to drizzle on. My trio of items were a steal at barely $20. Nom Wah is an excellent pick for quality dim sum at rock-bottom prices. I arrived early to a mostly-empty restaurant which allowed their staff to be extra attentive. The waiter described what sauces & dishes he was placing on my table, & the waitress offered to fill my water bottle before I left, as it was a 90° day. A lovely first impression!

She did fill my water but I had to ask. And seemed to be somewhat frugal when I asked for extra napkins and only received ONE?!? This place immediately came to mind after I read the reviews, and I ordered takeout tonight. I am very pleased to say that this was an amazing experience! I opted to do fairly simple dim sum, mainly because a restaurant that has "dim sum" in its name should shine in this category. I was able to place my order online, and had the scallion pancake, the pork, soup, dumplings, the chicken and shiitake dumplings, and the shrimp shu mai. The order was prepared, extremely fast, but very attentively. The packaging was thoughtful and protective, without being wasteful. They included a small container of delicious black vinegar/soy for dipping, and some chopsticks. All of the dishes were fantastic! My favorite was probably the shrimp dumplings, and I was happy that it was two for one night. Everything tasted very fresh and well-made. The seasoning was spot on, without being overly salty. My only regret was that after going to pick these up, I noted that the inside of the establishment appeared to be quite quaint and comfortable, and would definitely recommend that people check this place out for dine in options. The staff were very friendly, and made the pick up experience a positive one. So, if you're in the area and really want to have some dim sum, I would definitely recommend this place. I will most definitely be back in the future!!

Prices are kind to the wallet given the portion sizes. My must-order lineup starts with the scallion pancakes--the clear headliner. The shrimp lo mein is comfort done right: soft, chewy noodles, well-seared shrimp, and a sauce that coats rather than drowns. And a new favorite is the egg custard--silky and softly set, lightly sweet.
