I'm steadfast in my endorsement of DJ Kitchen .... but if I was eating solely vegetarian, I likely wouldn't make a special trip. Seaweed salad with sesame tastes no different than what you'd get elsewhere. It's good. My friend insisted on spicy cucumber salad because she thought we'd all enjoy it. (She took most of it home.) But it was indeed spicy. Bok choy with black mushrooms was nothing I would order on my own. I frequently buy bok choy at Trader Joe's and the preparation here tastes like something I could make. (Well not really, but you catch my drift.) The two standout dishes are mapo shrimp with tofu and double cooked chicken. While one often sees double cooked pork on menus, most restaurants don't do chicken. DJ's rendition is the best I've had. Rather than deal with tablets -- that was always a turnoff to me -- a server graciously came over to take our order. Service was fine, dinner was unhurried, the wine (which we brought) was good. I really wanted to like D.J. Kitchen. The menu reads well -- fish, collard greens, black beans, spicy shrimp wontons sounds like a solid, satisfying meal. Very impressive! Also a special note on service. The Uber Eats driver not only stopped at the wrong hotel (which I had to chase down), but he also forgot a large part of the order. I called the restaurant and without any hesitation they offered to personally deliver the missing items. traveled to philly for a basketball tournament, and needed to get a bite to eat after a day of traveling . so let me just start off by saying ... this is a dressed up chinese spot . so we walked in and were immediately seated. our "server" (& i use that term lightly) comes and hands a tablet with no direction . so the tablet is literally the menu and where you order from. okay. so we ordered our food. my daughter got the chicken lo mein and a milk boba tea. i ordered an egg drop soup, chicken and broccoli, and a fresh lemonade. my entree comes out first. the chicken and broccoli was just okay . the broccoli was literally the star of the dish bc the chicken was not seasoned at all. after almost eating my meal , i realized i hadn't gotten my soup. the "sever" said they were in the back making , which was a fib. he forgot bc i saw him scoop the soup from the pot it was in. i did try my daughter's lo mein , and that was good . and the lemonade was fresh , just hot . the actual restaurant itself is pretty nice on the inside . it's in the city center and they have a free parking garage . i wasn't very impressed, so can't say that i'd be returning it i ever visited philly again. read more

HAIR IN MY FOOD I went to DJ Kitchen on City Avenue in Philadelphia on Sunday, March 1, 2026 and ordered a simple meal (chicken lomein and General Tso's chicken with white rice). I ordered take out. I went home, plated my food and began eating. Two to three bites in I discovered a long strand of hair in my food. It was dangling from a piece of chicken I was about to eat. I immediately took the hair, which was intertwined in rice, and laid it on a napkin to see what it was. I took a few pictures. I called DJ Kitchen several times (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) to request a refund because I could not eat the food. My calls and voicemail messages were ignored. It is not convenient for me to go back and return the food (I put it all back in the containers). I will try to go back to the store and show them the hair they left in my food. I doubt they will refund my $30+. But that was my last visit. read more

I saw some mixed reviews, but the place was a 3 or 4 minute walk from the hotel, so I thought it would be worth a try. Huge surprise as the food was fantastic! The hot-sour soup was the best that I've ever had, my wife had the wings, they served me a massive portion of crab fried rice which was made spicy for me, and the spicy green beans were addictive. The wait staff was very attentive - I'd strongly recommend this place to anyone. We're not locals, so won't be able to comment on the rest of the menu items (I'd love to come back for the dumplings), but ignore any review that isn't a rave one! read more

It was also easy for us to all order and pay separately since we were on a work trip! Service was efficient. They are byob which is always nice! We did. But still things are very disorganized. We ordered 3 drinks, the first two came after maybe 10 minutes, but the last didn't arrive 20 minutes later, we have to ask to get it. We ordered two appetizers, one of them arrived completely cold and have to be sent back; the other one didn't arrive until at the end of the meal (seems like they forgot about it and we have to ask to get it). I ordered the veggie spring rolls, and the veggie fried rice. the fried rice was actually great (i'm quite picky about fried rice) but it had lots of stringy egg. the spring rolls I LOVED!! BUT they were so tiny!!! so so tiny! and for the price, there are better finds for spring rolls that aren't so tiny! other wise, great place! I haven't eaten in so I wouldn't know about the restaurant itself and I am only speaking on the food I ordered! This schezuan Chinese restaurant is a gem near Philadelphia College of osteopathic medicine (PCOM). Everything on this menu is fresh delicious and good. The service is excellent! We had one of the most tastiest wonton soups I ever had. The egg drop soup was also very good. The scallion pancakes are second to none. The crispy cheese wontons were ok. The dumplings in chili oil were tasty. The fried rice dish and lo mein dishes were also very tasty. My favorite dishes were the cold sesame noodles with a little spice very delicious, the potatoes peppers and eggplant dish excellent and the long peppers with chicken excellent! Have eaten here a few times and I've become a real fan. Hidden along City Ave behind Chipotle, the dining room is surprisingly never crowded even though you should definitely eat in. The entrees are $12-35 depending on what you get, but the chef knows how to prepare high quality Chinese food. This is way above the typical Chinese American takeout place. We walked in around 5:30/5:45 pm on a Friday and there wasn't a hostess at the front, but we saw kiosks so we proceeded to just order on those (this was our first time here). We then went to sit down and after about 10-15 minutes a staff member came over to us to ask if we had ordered to which we said we did on the kiosks. However, the kiosks are only for to-go orders so we told him that and he made sure to relay the message to the kitchen. We noticed that other parties around us were also waiting a long time to get their food. We had an event to go to at 7 and when it was 6:45, we asked for an update on our food and was told that it had been packaged as a to go order so they had to remake it to serve it to us. We ended up getting all our food between 7-7:15. I will say the food was absolutely delicious. The cold sesame noodles had a great kick of the peppercorn that was to die for. The pork and crab soup dumplings, shrimp hargow, and wontons in chili oil were all very flavorful and authentic. Overall, I would probably only recommend this place for takeout or unless you have time to spare and don't mind a long wait. read more

This was our first time to have DJ Kitchen's food. We ordered the Vegetable Lo Mein extra spicy, the Stir Fried Broccoli with Jumbo Shrimp and the Veggie Spring Rolls. Everything was a 4.5 out of 5. Note the extra spicy is extra spicy. Depending on how spicy you like your dish be sure to request the level of spice you can handle. The food was well prepared and fresh. Food fabulous. 3 cup chicken is a favorite dish that I haven't had in a while and was pleased to have again. My dinner partner had a huge bowl of soup which she enjoyed and took home half. I didn't think to ask for soy sauce as I assumed it would be included automatically but despite that, the rice was ready in about 10 minutes. If I try this place again, it will have to be because I had limited secondary and tertiary choices. The Scallion Pancakes were barely edible. They were cooked on to low a temperature so the dough absorbed a lot of the oil and failed to crisp. But the biggest issue was the lack of scallions. There were barely any so the bread lacked that amazing aroma that usually fills the room makes your mouth water. The Pork Soup Dumplings failed miserably to live up to there name. Expecting that burst of warm flavourful broth as you bite down is what it is app about. And with these dumplings, two orders of them, we got none of that. One, maybe two having leaked, I would have excused but we had Twelve between the two orders and they were all dry. The kimchi shrimp fried rice was under-seasoned and underwhelming. There was barely any kimchi and what little there was, the flavour dissipated amongst the unseasoned rice and shrimp. This was truly made for a person who has never had kimchi before. The West Lake Beef Soup was just an Egg-Drop add Beef and Cilantro soup. Which is fine if you are in a pinch and making it at home from corner-store leftovers... but not for restaurant quality and especially not for the amount we paid. We had every intention ordering the Lotus Root Soup but will now be looking for a different place to meet that craving. The quality was just not there. Which is upsetting because they have so many of the foods we like on the menu. A second chance is not out of the question... but it also isn't high priority. read more

We went to our new local target before eating dinner. My wife warned me we would be a while. So in the interest of efficiency I said let's order out. I'm not going to want to cook when we get home. So I jump on Yelp and the first place that comes up has bubble tea. She's not a huge fan of Chinese but loves bubble tea. I try to order it on grub hub but the bubble tea doesn't come up as a selection. So I gave them a ring. YES said they! We have bubble tea! So we got bubble tea, scallion pancakes, sesame tofu, General Tso tofu, and sprint rolls. The scallion pancakes were some of the best I've ever had. We ordered some chef specials and dry pepper dishes, and were thoroughly satisfied! But, since the closest competitors are basically Sang Kee in LM and Ping Pong in Andorra, they are a bit pricey. They also serve bubble tea here, but sadly you could tell the bubbles were old because they got hard super fast. Cheese foam drinks are legit though! I have tried quite a few hot and cold dishes from dj kitchen and loved them all. You can find authentic Chinese food from the menu. I love spicy food but have a low-moderate tolerance. The Beef Slides in Spicy and Sour Sauce is the spiciest among the ones I ordered. I have been to the restaurant four times since I discovered it last year and I will totally come back this year. Blech. We've given this place a few chances and it's either been average or below. The pork/veggie buns are definitely not handmade, they seem to be pressed into a mold which would be fine if they tasted good. The dough was thick and dry like they weren't steamed fully, and not nearly enough filling. Recently I tried to order the General Tso's chicken but accidentally selected tofu instead--not the end of the world, I like tofu--but after 20 minutes of not receiving a pickup notification, I decided to just show up and wait. My food was already sitting there for who knows how long, which happened every time I've ordered from here. After a literal two-minute drive home, I found a pile of soggy, deflated tofu cubes that seem to have been premade and reheated. There was a weird bitter aftertaste (baking soda maybe?) and the sauce was more like sweet & sour. There were 3 sad pieces of pale broccoli, and a side of white rice that had a strange slippery texture. The "crab rangoon" were TINY, thin and $8 for 5 of the smallest ones I've ever seen. If the customer service was better it could almost make up for the overpriced, underwhelming food, but there's usually no greeting when you walk in, or even an employee in sight. I ended up running to Target and buying frozen General Tso's chicken, broccoli and egg rolls for dinner, which turned out far better for a third of the price! Bigger portions, too.
