Came on a freezing Thursday evening and had to of course sit inside (can't wait to come here in the warmer months). You order at the counter, pick from their awesome menu, a daily menu that has different items of the day is also available. They make what's fresh and in season. Things like meatless Monday and Trippin' Thursday are definitely a lot of fun to try! Because it was cold and we had just spent the afternoon at a local spa, we were starved. We wanted warm, comfort food and that's exactly what we got at Dixon! Also it's not just comfort food it's comfort staff, they're pretty rad. ***Finally*** comfort, southern twist food, with vegan and vegetarian options. THANK YOU! Droolworthy menu items like the oyster mushroom melt, baked mac and cheese with the option to add local mushrooms (instead of bacon). This place has it all: from buttermilk mashed potatoes to in house fresh made cornbread, you might have a hard time just ordering a few things off the menu. We decided to order different things to try so we got things like the amazing smoked squash (hugeeee and nicely portioned) that comes with those roasted local mushrooms exploding with flavor and texture). Did I say we love mushrooms? Because we sure stinkin do! Got the mushroom and white bean chili (THANKS FOR IT NOT AUTOMATICALLY HAVING HAM OR BACON IN IT) which was DELICIOUS. Paired our meals with buttermilk mashed potatoes, cornbread and the Memphis style slaw. Ok also got to try their kimchi which I recommend NOT skipping. I know I already mentioned this place is dog friendly and really loves dogs. They have a special dog patty made dog friendly with no salt or seasonings so your furry baby can also enjoy. Dogs allowed outside only but it's gorgeous out there so worth it! Interesting concept at Dixon Roadside, which seems to be common in this area. You order your food first at the front counter, they provide a number and you place it on a stand at the table of your choice. Overall, Dixon left a pretty good impression on us. Parking was available, tables were available, they weren't out of anything we ordered. So far so good. We started out with drinks. I went with a classic rosé and this brand, Prisma, was surprisingly delicious. The oyster mushroom bahn mi was average in my opinion. It was messy, and the bread was a bit too toasted and hard. Lots of flavor though, and the employee did warn me that it was spicy. Street corn was solid!!! Buttery, cheesy and complimented my meal perfectly. Highly recommend getting it as a side. Last but not least, the sweet potato pie. It was not rich in sweet potato flavor, but I thoroughly enjoyed the crust. It satisfied my sweet tooth and for that, I can't be upset. We recently stopped by for lunch on our way back to the city. Being fans of Phoenicia Diner, we were excited to try their sister restaurant. It was a Monday, so it wasn't very busy. The space is nicely designed, modern and spacious with a large outdoor area and a bar inside. I had the O-Ren salad with crispy chicken, my partner had the Smoked Brisket, and we shared a side of mac n cheese. The servings were very generous. Everything was delicious! The legendary Gypsy Wolf Cantina restaurant in Woodstock morphed into Dixon Roadside with a new style and new owner several years ago. It has most of those comfort, southern classics here: the brisket, pulled pork, collard greens, baked beans, corn bread. And it wouldn't be complete if Woodstock didn't add their own Vegan and Vegetarian spin to their menu. We were tossed between staying or leaving as we also wanted a more celebratory dinner atmosphere at our favorite Italian restaurant in town- so decided to only pick up dessert here and have in our cottage. As their name reads- it's every bit of that with a large gravel parking lot swinging on either side(?) of the restaurant and large canopy area for even more COVID outdoor or inclement weather seating. That 'roadside' theme carries on inside with 'garage doors', food served on metal trays and my girl wearing light blue/white stripe, train conductor overalls. And there's more seating inside with a fantastic looking bar. The $5 Pineapple Tres Leches Shortcake was a generous portion- except it didn't travel well and was all discombobulated by the time we got to our cottage- but a delicious one at best. Take-out area works fast and friendly. Maybe I'm a bit generous with my rating but my dessert was freaking good. I honestly don't mind returning to Dixon for a full meal the next time we stay in town. I mean...if you're going to indulge in comfort food, going big or going home seems a fair creed to live by. read more

So disappointing that this place has closed...I was here in April of 2023 and the food was delicious. It is right off of a main thorough-fare in Woodstock, surrounded by trees with tall garage-door windows along the front exterior. The banister around the circumference of the restaurant is lined with pretty-white lights. We went here before a concert and it was the perfect meal. I ordered the macaroni and cheese with a side salad, my boyfriend ordered a cheeseburger with fries and we split the buffalo chicken wings topped with blue cheese. First time at Dixons. Was craving some BBQ and with some rave reviews online, I can see this place being absolutely packed on a nice summer evening. Not sure if I really got the fully scope and potential of this restaurant. I opted for the brisket, slaw and cornbread as a side, also got the pork sandwich with collard greens. Maybe I'm not a BBQ consiour but I've never seen brisket like this before. Was a wet, little to no flavoring and no signs of the tell tale smoke ring or tender meat. Portion was a little on the light side for the price. The slaw was good and the cornbread bite was tasty. The pork sandwich was definitely the move. Seems like the majority of sandwiches are. Need to swing back to give the chicken sandwich a try. Little disappointed, but will have to try again. read more

Bookmarked as my Catskill go to especially when I needed something yummy and quick but not fast food. This place is a gem. I have gone to Woodstock so many times, it is hard to find a place to eat without making a fuss about parking, reservation, it's a Monday night nothing's open, or the wait is too long. Dixon Roadside is by my side. Many options, vegetarian, fish, meat, and vegan (?? Please check menu for it but I would be surprised that they don't) funky draft beers or not, they have desserts too. The rainbow trout burger was delicious especially the wasabi mayo that gave it a real nice kick. The steak fries is a killer too. The Dixon burger has lovely fried onions inside. And the patty was nicely done. It's a quality burger for sure! They have outdoor seating too but in the winter it's a bit too cold but imagine sitting out there for a beer? We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Dixon Roadside on the way in to Woodstock, NY. Oyster Mushroom and Kimchi Bánh mì were fantastic on the patio, as was Mac & Cheese with Cornbread and Biscuits (our son's selection). Really awesome food that has a plethora of vegetarian options. What a cute local place! Thanks to other Yelpers' reviews, my group of 4 found this place while exploring the area. Loved the deco and vibe of the place. **In a rush? Skip to the end for my tips.** There is outdoor and indoor dining. I saw a lot of people with their dogs in the outdoor dining area. It was a bit cold to eat outside the day I went, but during the warmer weather, I bet it would be awesome to eat in the outdoor area. There was so much to choose from! Here is what we ordered. bbq'd beef brisket - It was okay. Not amazing. grilled market fish - I think it was trout that day and it was delicious! Our teenage server had 0 interest in checking in on our order or refilling our water. After the 40 minutes of waiting, only with the intervention of the adult did we finally get our order WHAT TO GET: - chopped brisket sandwich. If you still think it's a bit bland, ask the cashier for more sauce on the side. Excellent service, such a relaxing dinner - great for families and such a relaxed place. Fried chicken oh so crispy, mashed potatoes are absolutely delicious. Dipping sauce had a nice kick to it and I liked that it was bit a very thick sauce to not take away from the boneless fried chicken. Braised very well. Apple slaw was ok - but bonus points for being vinegar based. We ordered the special - duck tacos and those were absolutely delicious. I paired with the peach hot sauce on the table (loved this too) They didn't have a stout but all the beer selections were great and complimented the food well. Cocktails look nice. The ice cream is made in house. They have vanilla, chocolate and swirl. We ordered the bread pudding and this was very tasty. However, less of a bread pudding in my mind and more of a German cake with blueberries. Still absolutely delicious. It was not dry at all but different than I expected. read more

The brisket was good but I'd probably skip it next time in favor of the chicken, and my wife actually wasn't crazy about the mashed potatoes. A thoroughly mediocre experience. We had high hopes for this place especially when we realized the owners of the uniformly excellent Phoenicia Diner were behind it. There was nothing terrible about the food per se, but nothing rose above average. The mashed potatoes were dense, dry and not particularly flavorful. The fried chicken was adequate, but the smoked chicken tacos were bland and completely unremarkable. The best thing we had was the fish, which was cooked perfectly; however no one other than a chef, a fisherman or a fishmonger is gonna know that Steelhead Trout isn't trout but basically just salmon, which is fine if you wanted and were expecting salmon -- which none of us were. A little clarification when we were ordering would have cleared that up quickly and easily. The only other thing that was just bizarre was how put out the server who brought us our water acted when we asked for another bottle of water. She rolled her eyes...over an extra bottle of tap water. Moments later, when she kicked our request down to a busboy, I could hear her say, "can you bring another bottle of water to this table? I just brought a bottle over and they're already asking for another." I realize restaurant staff is stretched thin these days but...I was just asking for a bottle of water. A giant "meh," for this place. A real disappointment. read more

We ordered takeout from here after seeing it on several "best of" lists online. I'm not sure how this would have made it onto such a list. This may be what passes for barbecue in New York, but anyone who has been below the Mason Dixon line will not recognize it as anything akin to barbecue. The fried chicken was soggy and underseasoned. The carrots had no flavor at all. Possibly they were boiled rather than roasted? Which is simply the wrong way to cook carrots if you want them to taste of anything. The cornbread was fine. It was basically indistinguishable from Costco cornbread, which tastes good and costs $5, not $20. Really the only thing we got that was worth buying was the buttermilk pie, about which I have no complaints. Everything else was overpriced and underwhelming. read more

This place has such an amazing ambience, if I were to build a house, I would ask to borrow the blueprints. They have a big outdoor seating area under a roof overhang with outdoor heaters to keep you toasty despite the cold. The burger was the winner tonight with an amazing combination of the crunchiest fried onions in the burger that balanced the patty. The green tomato-jalapeño relish also gave the burger so much flavor that I imagine my tongue will be dreaming about it tonight. Will definitely order this again if I ever return. The market fish was also cooked to perfection with the edges just turning crispy while the fish itself was tender and moist. The olive oil and fresh cracked pepper gave the dish so much character, it could have been the lead in Free Willy 2. Still, it wasn't so overpowering that you couldn't taste the fish. The carrots I had on the side were also as tender as one could expect. I would ask for the kimchi mayo that typically comes with the crispy chicken sandwich; but it was an amazing condiment. So good we ate here twice! On our first night in Woodstock we picked up takeout due to a long trip. The ordering process on the website was seamless and food was ready on time. We both had the chicken sandwiches and loved them. The chicken was perfectly crispy and the slaw was cool and crunchy- maybe my favorite part! On our second night, after being disappointed by another restaurant's out of stock items, we headed back to the tried and true Dixon. This time we ate inside. The vibes were great and the porch is awesome, but it was cold and we had our baby with us so we opted for inside. You order at the counter and then seat yourself; this was troublesome for some bigger parties since it was pretty full. We ordered the burger and the Mac and cheese and both were excellent. In fact, I would say the Mac was some of the best I've ever had. Great texture with the bread crumbs, not too cheesy, and a perfect portion. We also loved that you can choose from a nice list of sides. We tried the fries, mashed potatoes, corn bread, and corn; the corn was our least favorite, but it was really flavorful. We had a lovely dinner here. I love the fact that even when you're sitting inside, you feel like you're outside because of the huge open garage doors. We went with the potato wedges, fried chicken sandwich, mac & cheese with fried chicken on the side, cornbread muffin and slaw. We LOVED the bbq sauce and everything we ate was fabulous and tasty. Decor was very nice and open, place was spotless and staff very friendly. I had the brisket which was amazing! Fell apart with my fork, it was so tender I had a hard time picking it up. Biscuit and fries were great as well. My kids had the tacos, they said the tacos were ok but they raved about the coleslaw and fries. The crispy chicken wasn't so crispy, it was a bit on the chewy side and we all didn't care for the flavor. Dessert was awesome! The flan although not what I expected was delicious, never had buttermilk pie before so had to give it a try, it was ok, don't think I would order it again but one of the kids loved it. Our daughter recommended Dixon's and oh boy are we happy we listened to our child! Role reversal! Lol We got take out and even though it was busy the staff was attentive and super friendly. My hubs had the boneless fried chicken and two sides and I had the Mac n cheese covered with pulled pork and two sides. Portions are generous. Food quality gets a yum and we went back a second time. Omg the chicken comes with this spicy honey.....sooo good! Chicken is melt in your mouth tender. Highly recommend getting food here. Sorry should have taken photos. Honestly, this place was horrible. The food was inedible, gross, and overpriced. The staff was friendly but not very helpful. The portions and quality of food are not worth the price at all. This place is 100% catered to city people who don't care about the price and like the atmosphere. My advice? Skip this place at all costs.
