I call Dave "The Wizard". Knoxville is lucky to have him. He clearly has a tremendous amount of experience with repairing audio and video equipment. This is evident by how effortless he makes the work involved seem, despite the intricacies and labor required to perform the repairs. I have thus far had two 50+ year old speakers restored, and a mid 70's Kenwood integrated amp. The prices charged for the work seem fair. Dave is also easy to deal with. It takes him a few weeks to get to working on the repairs, but this is because he has a healthy backlog of repairs to complete. His workshop is filled with equipment he is working on. I agree with the review about calling "Dixie Dave" on the phone. The guy clearly thinks you're a moron just for calling and bothering him (you should have known better). When a person goes out of their way to suggest that they'd rather be dead than dealing with customers, one wonders whether he's fixing your audio equipment to the highest level. I'd say if you need something just fixed (as opposed to perfected), and are willing to wait, and are willing to be the supplicant noob in your business relationship, then OK. I think he can fix most things to the point of being temporarily or permanently fixed. If you want to get the best out of your vintage equipment (McIntosh, etc.), I'd pass. read more

I dropped off an old console record player 3 weeks ago because I wasn't getting any sound out of my right speakers. I was told it would be 2-3 weeks before he could look at it. 3 weeks later I called and was told he hadn't looked at it yet but he would today. A couple hours later he called back and confirmed what I already knew, that I had no sound from the right channel. He also said that there were problems with the record player that had been working perfectly before I dropped it off. I asked for a price to fix it, and he said at least $125 plus parts. I told him that the record player had been working fine when I dropped it and just needed sound from the right speakers. He told me again that it would be at least $125 to fix the right speakers. I pressed him to explain how much of the $125 was parts and how much was labor and his request was "most of it is labor". I asked again, how much he would be charging me for labor and how much was for parts, to which he replied "it doesn't matter, that's what I'm charging you to fix it." I then asked to come pick it up. When I went back to pick up my console, he surprisingly did help me load it in my car, at which point I said "your price is reasonable if that's what it would take to fix it, but I need to know what I'm paying for." I might as well have said nothing because he literally ignored my statement and walked in. I recommend avoiding this business. I am confident I would have been overcharged for repairs rendered, and most likely charged to fix parts that weren't broken again. If I could give zero stars for this experience. Update 9/26/18: I took my console literally across the street to Ammons Electrical Repair and they had it fixed and working the very next day for half the price. If you have the choice, choose them. Dixie was 3 weeks, no repairs, and a quote of "about $125". Ammons was one day, $85. They also confirmed that Dixie was full of it trying to fix my turntable which has no issues at all. read more

Couldn't get past the initial phone call with this Yahoo! What he perceived to be smooth talk left me 100% confident that I was dealing with the electronic equivalent of a shady car salesman. I'm not saying he couldn't do the work or doesn't do quality work because I don't know. I felt like he was going to try and charge me for the phone call. Dave was very confident he could fix it but he wouldn't talk about what the issue might/could possibly be over the phone and only wanted to repeat himself concerning the $50 fee to assess the problem. I'm sure that $50 is for his time but the only time wasted was mine by making the call in the first place. It was obvious my business wasn't needed because other than the assessment price he liked to stress that he couldn't look at it for 3 weeks. Find somewhere else because this place seems to want to talk people out of using them. Do them that favor. read more

This guy will fix anything although I think he would rather fix an old phonograph than a flat screen TV by our brief conversation. Really nice guy with great customer service, he called me every few days to let me know the status of my TV since he had to order a part and it took a week for the part to get there. He had an especially difficult time yet didn't overcharge me, in fact I'd say the pricing was especially fair. I would definitely recommend him to anyone! read more

To the day, he called telling me what the repairs would cost including parts which was actually less than I expected and very reasonable. I took my Flat Screen TV here to be repaired because when i would turn it on the picture was fine but after about 5 minutes the picture would freeze and then turn black although you could still hear the audio. I tested the television right before it was dropped off. Then two weeks later he tells me that the screen was busted, not knowing what he meant i had a friend call and he explain that my screen was physically shattered. If that had been the case i would not have brought it to him would have saved the time and effort and just tossed it. the TV was not shattered. But because i could not prove it was him i didn't get so upset but what upset me was his lack of customer service he didn't even try to listen and kept cutting me off being very rude and swearing it did not happen at his shop, he did not even care that he had an unhappy customer. I was referred to him by a friend who got his TVs repaired there and told him what had happen so we will no longer take anything there nor will we recommend anyone to. Also, found out the guy that runs the place is a drunk!! Wish someone had told me that before i trusted him with my 46" flat screen! read more
