We tried the Dixie Deli today based on Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. Clear Lake is great for a variety of cuisines (at least three solid Indian food restaurants for example) but I don't know of too many places to get a really good basic sandwich. The menu wasn't huge but had several interesting options for me and my husband. Our sandwiches both hit the spot. The kind restaurant owner mentioned in several reviews brought us samples of the gumbo to try. I can see why he's proud of it. I'm picky about gumbo but it was authentic and delicious. I bet their muffaletta's good. Whole staff went out of their way to be friendly while efficiently serving food to a constant stream of customers. Everything including the restroom was nice and clean. I had been wanting to try this place for awhile! Finally, today I decided to get out and go grab a sandwich. I am so happy I did and finally found this quaint little Mom and Pop Deli! Sadly, we don't have many of these places left anymore! When I walked in, it was small but welcoming and I knew I would enjoy as I heard many of the frequent customers in there. The sweet lady at the counter ( later, I found was Mrs Donna ) was so sweet and happy to help me order as she explained the simple menu. For, just $ 5 you get your choice of several of their fresh made sandwiches, served on a poboy bread, with your choice of bagged chips and a canned soda . You can add pretty much anything you like to make your sandwich your own or just try something new , for an extra charge. They also have other sandwiches on the menu as well. They also have gumbo and red beans and rice and I told her I would have to try another day. Although, many frequent customers were ordering the gumbo, too. I ended up getting the ham, salami, and cheese , ( I picked cheddar ) with lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard and dill pickles. ( it's your sandwich, just addd your preferences). I got chips and a can soda, and went onto the side small room as Mrs Donna mentioned ! " If I wanted to eat with Andy, Andy Griffin was on ", that's so cute....I sat at one of the tables in there and within a few minutes a sweet young lady brought me my sandwich. It was very good, just a good ole' sandwich, nothing fancy, just good, something we don't have much of in the area. When I was almost done ,a nice gentleman, ( whom I found out afterwards when I went to thank hon, was Mr David) brought me a small little cup of the gumbo and a spoon and told me to stir it as rice was on the bottom and this was just a taste . I thanked him and stirred , then I took a few bites and I must say although I was full, the gumbo had a really nice flavor profile, definitely not lacking in flavors ! While I was eating several guys ( regular customers) were eating and offered suggestions as well as said I would enjoy this place, that in itself, made me smile as customers are the greatest word of mouth for small places like this . They also reminded me that you can pretty much just add whatever you prefer to your sandwiches as one of them added avocado to his and another added bacon , in my eyes, both of those extras are always welcome! Before I left , I went to thank the owners , Mr David ( next door in the dive shop) as I introduced myself and to thank him again for sample of tasty gumbo and he told me he was happy I stopped in as well. Then I headed out and thanked Mrs Donna up front again and told her I would be back . Very sweet couple and great Mom and Pop deli that we don't see much of anymore. Working in the area and wanted something fairly light for lunch. I had the muffuletta hot sandwich. 9 bucks for a 6in sandwich chips and a can of coke. I had to do a double take to see what looked like (quoting another reviewer) a D cell battery size sandwich Let's say about half to a 3rd the diameter of a typical sub roll and very little meat. The muffuletta was tasty but the size was kind of a joke. Surprised so many reviewers find this an acceptable size for a sandwich. The staff was very friendly. (Though I didn't get my free brownie). I'd eat here again if I was passing by but I would got out of my way. Bigger sandwich and more meat and this place could easily be 4.5 stars and a place I'd make a point to visit. read more

Small deli-like family owned and operated feeling. They have a daily special that includes a PO-boy, chips and drink for 4.99. Broccoli and cheese soup was delicious. They give off a very friendly vibe and were easy to offer suggestions as it was my first time. Star Trek was playing in the dinning area today. I'll definitely be returning. read more

AMAZING! I am a first timer, and I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich (I added red onions) It was delish!!!! I ate the entire thing!!! I will definitely be going back. I work right across the street from Dixie delli, I love going over there to eat! I love the hot roast beef, gumbo, and red beans and rice are usually what I order there. Their sandwich trays are really good as well. ( I order them for our company when we need them) I think everyone that is by this place should stop in and try what they have to order. I'll start by saying the owners are very nice. They even recognized me as a new customer and gave me a free piece of brownie, which I lost by the way. I hope its not melting in my car. Anyways, I cheated on my new found vegetarian-ness, and had the hot pastrami. I was disappointed. there was very little meat, the bread was over toasted, and it was over 6.00 for a small 6 in with hardly any meat.(I said NEW FOUND vegetarian) I had taken a picture, but I guess forgot I had planned on writing a review, cause somehow I deleted along with 34 horrible selfies. I work in the area and was completely bored of all my usual lunch spots...so after looking on yelp I decided to give the place a try. It's a no-frills but great tasting little Mom & Pop deli. There's usually some older gents sharing war stories and the like. They have sandwiches and soups (& salad usually in the cooler.) The quality of the sandwiches is somewhere better than Jimmy John's but less than Subway (only because they don't have as many toppings.) And it's cheaper than Subway. Personally, I usually go for the turkey & cheese or the muffaleta. It's also usually teaming with servicemen working out of Ellington and NASA engineers, so I like to bring my single girlfriends. All in all, you should give it a try, but let's not expect too much and check our ego at the door. read more

My mom and her co workers come here for lumch frequently. I joined them one day and haven't stopped coming back. The roast beef with au ju is amazing. Crispy bread, tasty beef, melty cheese, mayo. I've also had the gumbo, my cajun boyfriend could drink that stuff. It is very VERY good. The owners are amazingly friendly and welcoming. Giving there best efforts to get to know you on some level. This is the BEST Mom and Pop Deli in the area!!! We (my daughter, family friend and her daughter and one other person) had the pleasure of eating at this deli over this past weekend. The kids are cheerleaders for the University of Houston. We didn't realize that the Deli was actually closed, but the owners allowed our girls to get something to eat. The kids loved the sandwiches! The owners were VERY PERSONABLE! This place is an absolute gem. I'm lucky enough to live in the subdivision next to the deli, so I visit fairly often. The Reuben is warm, delicious, and incredibly filling. The muffaletta is one of the best I've ever had, with a wonderful zesty olive mix on a hearty loaf of crusty bread. The prices are extremely reasonable, they carry a great selection of chips and drinks (even Sweet Leaf Tea!), and the owners couldn't be more friendly and accommodating. If there is ever a time you drive by and they appear to be closed, give them a call. Often I have walked in after hours and picked up a sandwich and some brownies for the family at home. I made the comment that I never made it on time to get any of the incredible broccoli cheese soup, and they offered to hold some back for me until I got there. They are wonderful people and really know how to run a great business. They remember their customers and are always so helpful. read more
