This is what I imagined a typical Texan bar would look like. Rustic decor, wood (and carved) tables, pool tables and quite good quality of 'fast food' (burgers and tacos). I enjoyed my 'Dixie taco'. Ground beef, cheese, Lettie and tomato, with a side of salsa, sour cream and nachos. Nothing extraordinary, but simply well done and filing. Sometimes, a simple meal is the most satisfying! Full bar. I love the Dixie Chicken. Been coming here for over 30 years. The atmosphere and music are what makes the Chicken such a cool place. We visited this last week, and everyone that worked there acted like they could care less about their job. Every single server and bartender had their head stuck in a phone. When I went to the bar for a beer, I had to wait for three employees to finish their personal conversation first before they would wait on me. My friend went into the bathroom and there was no toilet paper. One of the employees came in, and she told her they were out of paper. The girl said, "Yeah, someone just told me," handed her a wad of paper and laughed, "Well, welcome to the Chicken." Understand for me to give the legendary Dixie Chicken less than 5 stars is sacrilegious, but the crew working there on that day needs to be straightened out or kicked out. read more

SERVICE: Girl with Dutch braids, brunette, blue eyes was TERRIBLY rude. She over charged my friend and I for a pool game and we tried to politely correct her and she was hostile, angry, and very insulting. She sarcastically apologized and called me broke for just asking for help resolving our issue. She was in a fight with her coworker at the time of where the issue started so I would understand the mistake, but there was no reason to be mean or aggressive. People go here for nostalgia, but the chicken is far from the bar your parents talk about with such admiration in their tone and twinkle in their eye. Bar and "grill" is extremely dirty, the AC works and works well so that is why I'm rating a 2 star vs 1 star, food sucks, and beer selection subpar at best. Go to rough drought, obannons, or heck even the dry bean for decent drinks. If you want dusty taxidermied deer heads maybe pop in to the chicken for 30 seconds but you're better off just making friends with a local or a Texan (please forgive my generalization dear reader). What warrants the long review: my dog has been indoors here multiple times and was recently very rudely kicked out. Ehhhh....more hype than true quality. It's a good place for college kids to hang, but not for the family for a great meal. Honestly it was below average. So let me say this. Food is amazing there it would be 5 stars for that if the manager wasn't an asshole. Me and some buddies went to go drink and all of were 21, my one buddy showed his ID and got rejected because his card was damaged. So I bought alchohol for him. Whenever I went to purchase myself some alcohol later I got threatened that they were gonna call the cops and kick us out. Again, go there for the food not drinks. Drove 2 hours to hangout and watch a HOME A&M game and they aren't playing the game... we asked the bartender if we could stream the game and they said go for it. We had the game playing for 10 min and a bouncer came and told us we couldn't stream it because it was "illegal" and turned it off and wouldn't give us anymore reasonings as to why we couldn't stream it after proving that it wasn't illegal. I feel like if I could see this place with the lights on, I would never set foot inside. But in the dark it's everything you could ask for in a traditional dive bar. I first came here in 1990 and now I got to bring my daughter back. It was fun sharing the tradition with her! So, I'm giving this place 3 stars, and let me explain why: I'm rating it based on the grounds of a divey college bar. In that regard, it excels. That should tell you a lot about what you need to know right there. There is Aggie history *EVERYWHERE.* Every single table in there is carved up with the names of years and years of A&M graduates. I mean, you HAVE to visit it at least once, if you visit College Station. They have a bunch of pool tables, a live rattlesnake in the back, dominoes you can play at your table. Bad service redemption! A few weeks ago I visited the Dixie Chicken by recommendation. I have a band called the Jeff Jacobs Band and we were playing a show and we were on a time crunch. We waited nearly 30 minutes with no greeting or acknowledgement. I was getting frustrated so I went to the door greeter and he totally blew me off. Luckily Reginald was there and when I went back to my table he immediately went to our table and took our order. Hogan and Courtney were also keys to a better experience as the consistently checked back with us and made sure our food came to our table. Celeste the bartender was also very apologetic and helped make our day better as well. Dixie Chicken should be proud to have such great employees and definitely avoided y'all from a poor review. Great atmosphere but mediocre food does not justify the high prices. Buffalo chicken sandwich had a patty that looked like it came from the frozen food section of Costco. Went there to try the chicken which we had heard of. Very disappointed that they were nothing but small chicken tenders which is more suited for children than grown men Lol. The hamburger is a much better suggestion to recommend. The worst thing about this restaurant is the filthy dirty disgusting restrooms. It doesn't look like it's every been cleaned mopped or sanitized in years. If a place doesn't keep the bathroom clean I hate to think what the kitchen cooking food must look like. You go to Dixie Chicken for the experience and not the chicken. The A&M fans were very welcoming and explained the ordering process and advised us to get our drinks while we wait in line (Great advice). As a college establishment, this is the best place I've every seen. When you're inside, you know you're in the middle of Texas at the same time you know you're in the heart of the Aggies country. I had the chicken burger because I assumed with chicken in the name, it would be better than the regular burger. In hindsight, you really can't go wrong with their burger. I ordered fries but I saw the smothered fries and soon regretting my decision. Advice: Order the burger or chicken fried sandwich. If you're going to do fries, do them right and get them smothered. I will go back because I had a great experience and know with better understanding of their menu, I would have ordered the perfect college establishment meal. read more

It's like walking back into 1974. This is an incredible place to check out. It's legendary among Aggies. Good food, great pool and great to hang out anytime. I was hesitant to bring my upper teens, but it felt family friendly during the summer. This is not a place you go to find good food or service. They "are known for their burgers" not Chicken and honestly, their burgers were barely mediocre. They have no "special sauce" unique to their restaurant and you have to pay for your condiments (except for the ketchup). Their fries tasted like wood chips. Hard (not crunchy) on the outside and mushy on the inside.... Then there was the service (or the total lack there of). Upon our arrival we had no idea where to go or what to do. We asked 3 separate people before we were directed to where we were supposed to order from. Lastly, the cleanliness of the place leaves much to the imagination. Someone posted that this was a "dive bar." It is a DIVE alright. Opening when I was a student way back when, the Dixie Chicken now boasts about being the oldest bar on Northgate. The Chicken holds special memories and as I reentered after many years of being away, it was most nostalgic, timeless. Don't get me wrong, the place is a dive. ...and that is what makes it so special. The wooden carved up tables for 42 players, all the neon beer signs, the deer head trophies/ Once the smells get added in, it certainly makes it the best bar in town and maybe even the State of Texas. Returning to College Station for the first time in many years, my family members all required a visit to the "Chicken" so we could get one of their signature hamburgers and fries. The beer list has all the mass produced standards on draft - not many craft beers, but I guess that must be what sells these days to poor college students. Anyway, I just saw the Dixie Chicken celebrated their 45th birthday, so best wishes for many more. May the Chicken remain timeless and forever interesting. read more

This garbage bar and their rotten parking lot and associated towing company have been stealing cars and money from Aggies and their guests for *decades*. They use a "pay slot parking" system on purpose because you can't prove you paid and even if you do, they'll tow you to make $300 per vehicle. Don't park in their lot, don't patronize their business. The owners know the towing company is crooked. They both deserve to lose lawsuits and go out of business. The bar is also dirty, smells bad, and is unpleasant. read more

The female bartender with brown hair and thick eye brows called my girlfriend a "fucking bitch" when she was finished ordering a drink.
