Went here with my wife and truly enjoyed the experience. The price was very reasonible, especially the Happy Hour menu (dialy from 4 to 7). They also had a very extensive wine and drink menu. The restraunt itself was very relaxing and classy. The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful (Thank you Abigail). I had the 3 cheese flat bread which was very good and my wife had the vegetarian sushi, which she also enjoyed. We also had the homemade chocolate lava cake for dessert which was delicious. I went out to dinner here with some friends during a recent visit to my favorite Michigan city. This place does cocktails right! I'm not really a martini kind of girl, but everyone raved about them, and who I am to argue? I ordered the # 4: Vodka, triple sec, fresh lime juice, white cranberry juice, and chilled grapes. It sounded so refreshing, and it was. Our awesome waitress first brought our glasses, each filled with the main fruit component of each drink (grapes for me). Then, followed up with an armful of martini shakers, and poured us each our concoction. Mine was fantastic, I'd order it again in a heartbeat! I also ordered the roasted portobella: roasted portobella cap, balsamic aioli, roasted red pepper, goat cheese and arugula on a toasted baguette. I literally just got hungry for it again writing that. The combination of savory mushroom, creamy goat cheese, and tangy red pepper left my taste buds singing. AND IT WAS AFFORDABLE. Ambiance was cool, for sure. The wait staff was good as well. The advertised menu items were not all there. For instance, I ordered a 15yr Pappy van Winkle (which was on the menu), and I was offered a 12yr. This review is late, but the great service received by my friends and me several months ago is still on my mind. My friends and I celebrated my birthday back in August, 2015. I am wheelchair-bound and wasn't sure Divani could accommodate me. We ended up talking with Molly ahead of time, and she assured us Divani was completely handicap accessible. Moreover, she said she would personally make sure that the table seating was roomy, and access to washroom facilities and all other amenities were close and "handy." Molly was true to her word. The accommodations, for all of us, could not have been more perfect! Further, our waiter was excellent. We almost felt like we were his only table, given the attention we received. However, the restaurant was relatively full. He spent a lot of time , before we ordered, asking us (individually) our likes and dislikes with respect to both food and drink. I had the best pork chop I have ever tasted!.. A number of my friends also commented about the tremendous quality of their dinners. Our water glasses were always full, and someone was always there for drink reorders and to clear plates. HOWEVER, HERE'S THE REAL KICKER!......I am completely allergic to all seafood. Not only did the waiter ask us ahead of time about any allergies, but the staff separately pan-fried and cooked my food so as to ensure no mixing with seafood juices or the like! Unbelievable! Bar Divani is one of those places that is great to hang out with friends at the bar area or a quiet table in the corner for a date. The service is outstanding and the staff is beyond helpful. They are always attentive, friendly and quick to make suggestions. The suggestions, from my experience, are always spot on. Then menu deserves a round of applause here in GR and even better, has numerous things to keep a Pescitarian such as myself, more than satisfied. Eh. My husband and I hadn't been in for awhile. The first thing we noticed is the lights were much brighter, and that wasn't really a good thing in our opinion. We kind of liked the more dim, romantic lighting. The next thing we noticed is it was fairly empty for a Saturday evening, great to get a seat and not wait for the bathroom, but unusual from our prior experience. The menu had changed, and honestly nothing caught our eye, so we had a drink and left for a different restaurant for dinner. My husband really liked his martini, which was a special order. I ordered the #10, which was good, not great...I think maybe they started using less expensive alcohol or something to help #1-10 all be $8? Kind of disappointed, this use to be our favorite restaurant, and we're in no rush to return. :( read more

We had a hard time finding a place to eat before a concert last night. Divani was packed too but we got 4 seats at the bar. My wife had the risotto and loved it. I had the burger that is probably in my top three of all time. Seriously it was amazing. Red wine onions, arugula, Gorgonzola and a brioche bun with homemade catsup. Even the pickle was made in house and really good. Will be back here again for sure. read more

We stopped in at Divani for happy hour and what a good choice that was! The interior space was elegant and absolutely beautiful. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and provided very good service to our group. The charcuterie board (half price during happy hour) was probably the best one I have ever had. It was beautifully presented and had a large assortment of quality items on it. Our bubbly and drafts were half priced as well. The Divani was a very pleasant experience and I would highly recommend it. Next time I visit Grand Rapids I will definitely stop in for dinner. read more

The great thing about Bar Divani is that one can experience wine, drink it, and enjoy it to boot, without ever feeling inferior to anyone else. The menu is extensive, and for one with an accomplished palate, there is something wonderful to try, or to try again. For a novice in the food and beverage world, a staff exists that is more centered on taste experience than on corny jokes and old server tricks. If you want someone to laugh at your jokes and sing you happy birthday, find an Applebee's. If you want to enjoy your food and drink, or even learn more about your food and drink, Bar Divani is tops in the city.. I do not know of a better place in Grand Rapids to educate one's self about wine, or any other form of drink for that matter. The staff will remind you that it's more important to love what you're drinking that to have something snobby to say about it. My fiancé and I went here for a date night, which this place ruined. We made a reservation at 8pm on a Saturday and, once we found the host who was roaming around, we were seated immediately. The ambiance was nice. Those are the only compliments I can give. Save your money and don't go here, there are plenty of other establishments on Ionia more worthy of your time and money. This place was AWFUL. Their only vegetarian dish was a rice bowl with a "Thai" sauce that included cream. Most Thai dishes use coconut milk, not cream. I can't eat dairy and the server said "Oh well, there's nothing I can do about it." The only meat I eat is seafood, and when I ordered the halibut they said they were out (in the middle of dinner rush on a Saturday, great planning). I went with the salmon and my fiancé took the steak. We ordered the hummus small plate to start. I admit I have a difficult diet to accommodate, but the rest of the evening was terrible and had nothing to do with that. The naan that came with the hummus was lightly grilled and delicious, but stingy. We sat around a full bowl of hummus for a while until the server asked if we wanted more naan - when it came out it had been microwaved, not grilled like the first serving, and was tough. We got to chatting and around 9:20 I started swirling my empty glass around, as I had finished my drink around 8:45. No one came by to offer me another. No one even glanced at our table. We waited for our food until 9:50, at which point we flagged down a server. We had been waiting for our meals for over an hour and a half, and our drinks had been empty for at least an hour at that point. The person we flagged down got our server, who offered us drink refills and DESSERT!! She had no clue we had not gotten our meals yet! When we told her she was totally surprised and went to find out what the deal was. She came back to tell us there was a printer error and the kitchen never got out order. She also said she thought a male server had taken over our table hence the confusion; they seemed to be splitting the section. Even though we weren't "his" table he could have noticed our drinks were empty and we had never gotten dinner - he was serving the table next to ours but never glanced over at us. Then our waitress came back again to say our meals had been served to another table (odd since the kitchen never got our order?) and they were now out of salmon. There was nothing else on the menu I could eat, so we were going to leave. She came back AGAIN and said they "found" meals for us. They came out about 20 minutes later. The meals were mediocre. At that point we were so hungry that we didn't care. The waitress came back with the bill and told us she ever-so-graciously bought our hummus and second round of drinks, and discounted the steak. She gave us coupons to use so that "hopefully we'd come back," but they were already expired and were for 2 MEAT small plates. We still had to pay for our first round of drinks, my salmon, the discounted steak, and the 18% GRATUITY THAT HAD BEEN ADDED TO THE CHECK! No manager ever came around to talk to us, no one apologized for the disaster of a night, and seriously? Making us pay GRATUITY for the worst service ever?! We should have refused to pay it, but we wanted to get out of there. We'll never be going back. What a terrible experience. Side note: We left and got dessert at B-Dubs (we hate going to chain restaurants, but gladly went after this experience) and we both laughed when the manager came by to ask us how we were and if she could help us in any way after we'd been sitting for only about 10 minutes. read more

It was not that great either but the waitress was incredible and did all she could to fix it. Offering to remake the dish and fix the other one and take it off bill. Divani has one of the most extensive and diverse cocktail menus I've seen, and they are absolutely wonderful! I love trying something new every time we visit. The pop rocks martini and pisco sour are a couple of my favorites. The calamari and charcuterie are worth trying as well. most bars in west michigan have this environment of unkept, classless, laziness. people show up in their UofM or MSU hoodies and a pair of worn in work jeans to throw back a couple beers with their buddies. there is a lack of culture and elegance in these places that i cannot stand. bar divani is an oasis of elegance and culture in a dessert of middle-american blandness. obviously this place has an exceptional selection of wines but what has taken this place to the next level is the full kitchen that the newest owner has added. the menu is small but incorporates a wude variety of authentic dishes from various cultures. each item on the menu is exceptional. the bar divani burger is one if the best i have ever had. the use of brisket in the patty is pure genius. the risotto is truly authentic with a wonderful combination of flavors. the quinoa salad is a fabtastic mix of textures and great for a light, healthy dinner. the environment if this bar is a breath if fresh air in a city filled with rowdy breweries. the music is something i personally love. playlists include artists from sam smith to al green. this adds to the elegant yet relaxed environment. the service is exceptional. the decor is modern and chic yet overwhelming or cliche. for any food snobs like myself that visit, i recomend having a conversation with the owner louis. the first time i visited i talked with him fir nearly half an hour and enjoyed it immensely. its clear that who truly is passionate about food and wine abd it shows through his conversation as well as bar divani. i strongly advis visiting bar divani whether for a dinner to start the night or for a drink or two to end it. read more

Met a networking group here last week. There were about 14 of us. I've been there a few times and service has varied from ok to great. Service now was terrible - some of the worst I've had anywhere. Took 20-30 minutes to place order, that much to get our drinks, and about the same time AFTER drinks were empty to reorder. Restaurant was busy but not so bad that would delay service by so much. Manager was wandering around, but never checked on our table or removed empty glasses. We should have been charged happy hour prices but were charged full price. Took over 30 minutes between when we asked for check and when it was finally right. Never got apology from waitress, even when she spilled a drink on one of us. When we complained about slow service, she said we should have given her at least 20 minutes to get bills ready. (we had been trying to get her attention for almost that long.). Not going back-service is too spotty for the level they claim to be. read more

I love this place! The bartender was fantastic. We loved watching her make the most beautiful cocktails. She suggested the French 77 for me and it was perfect. From the hostess, to the bartender to our excellent server, we were happy and well accommodated. This place knows the value of great service. Our entrees were outstanding! I bought the living social coupon for Bar Divani and thought I would give it a try. Dressed up a bit and headed to the restaurant. Parking was easy to find (Wednesday night). Made a reservation, but the restaurant was not overly busy. Sat right down. The bar was busy, so it took a few minutes to get our drinks. I got a cocktail call the tiny birdie (I think) and my boyfriend got a beer. We each order a rice bowl. They were great, but my boyfriend left still hungry. The service was great, but the prices were kind of high for what you received. For two small plates and three drinks (2 beers 1 cocktail) it was over $50. I would recommend going here for wine and small plates, not dinner. read more

I very much enjoy Bar Divani. The majority of the staff are amazing, and really add to the atmosphere. The food is so great! The staff is willing to go above and beyond to make the experience great. The past few times I have been there, a bartender has been a little impatient and unkind to myself and the other members of the group I was dining with, by not answering questions and demanding that none of us talk at the bar while he is working is a little excessive and a little rude. Came to your bar for the first time last night, with a group of friends. The waiter was awful, I've never had worse service in my life! He was rude, and tried to be little my friends when they asked question about your drink options. On top of that, I gave him cash for my bill, which was over twice the amount of my total, and he asked me if I wanted change, I said yes. He came back with everyone's credit cards, and forgot to bring my change. So I waited, and he was off doing something else. Everyone was ready to leave, so I had to let him keep it. In my previous review I stated that the management seems to be poor. Correction, the OWNER seems to be delusional. Apparently since I didn't immediately complain about our poor experience and instead wrote a private email upon our return home, to which I didn't get a response, the owner decided that my review is a "prank" and we didn't really eat there. This is the most ridiculous way to address the situation. A better way would have been to reply to my PRIVATE email. I assure you my wife and I were there and the food and drinks were not good with the exception of the fries. However, if you contend that this is untrue, please refund my credit card for the charges made by your restaurant as you claim we didn't visit. read more
