Smoked chicken empanadas

Pretty basic San Pedro Street dining spot. It gets crowded on warm nights and when there is a game (or two) going on. They have a nice large outdoor dining space which is preferable. Our server was attentive throughout and a couple other staff even came by to see if we needed anything. The food is again, pretty basic so not a lot to wow about. It was HH and we ordered their 2 arancini app, smoked chicken empanadas appetizer a salad and a pizza. They were all just ok. Even with HH it was a bit pricy.

Tried happy hour at The District in Downtown San Jose and overall had a decent experience, though not without a few drawbacks. We ordered the half dozen oysters, arancini, ceviche mixta, an Old Fashioned, and the Moscow Mule from the happy hour menu, and the soppressata salami pizza from the regular menu. They gave us the option to sit inside or outside, and since the weather was nice we chose outside -- unfortunately that ended up being the wrong call. If you have sensitive allergies, be aware that the outdoor seating area can be rough with dust, seedlings, and bugs flying around from the trees. Our table was also pretty dusty and wasn't cleaned before we were seated. As for the food, the portions looked a little underwhelming when they first arrived, even for a tapas place, but the flavors were actually really solid. The biggest surprise was the pizza -- the spicy oil added a good kick and easily ended up being our favorite dish of the night. We finished with the beignets, and I was surprised by the filling until I looked back at the menu and saw it was a ricotta almond style cream. The sugar cinnamon coating on the outside was a little sweet for me but the chocolate dip was a good offset. Overall, it's a decent happy hour spot to check out, but I'm not sure I'd personally go out of my way to come back again.

Horrible experience, made is wait half an hour even when the place was empty. Terrible waiters who are rude

A friend and I decided to spend Galentine's Day with dinner at this place. The reviews and the menu looked great, so I made a reservation for Friday at 6:00 p.m. Since this is in downtown San Jose and parking can be awful, I called ahead to ask about parking availability. Jon returned my call and mentioned that the parking structure across the street offers free parking for the first 90 minutes, with minimal charges afterward. This is usually true unless there's an event at the SAP Center, in which case parking is paid. On the day of our reservation, we left early to account for traffic and parking. I'm glad we did, because I couldn't initially find the parking structure and spent about 10 minutes circling downtown. Eventually, I took a chance, and parking ended up being easy to find in the structure that evening. From there, it was less than a one‑minute walk to the restaurant via the San Pedro side. There's plenty of outdoor seating. I didn't notice heating lamps, but I assume they have some. The restaurant faces a street closed to traffic, so there are only pedestrians and rickshaws, which makes it very pleasant to sit outside without dealing with cars. We chose to sit inside since it was chilly. We were seated immediately, though it took a while for the server to come over--I had to catch her eye to get service. Once we did, the service was great. The menu features small plates meant to be shared, though the prices are standard. We shared a cheese board with three cheeses and accompaniments, a plate of three small empanadas, a beef slider, and beignets for dessert. The total came to about $100. The restaurant was almost full and noisy, which was expected, but the music was unnecessarily loud. The bread and cheese were delicious. The empanadas could have been better (they lacked flavor), and the slider was satisfying. After the small portions for the main meal, we were pleasantly surprised by the beignets--we received six generously sized beignets with caramel and chocolate sauce, and they were the highlight of the meal. There were plenty of vegetarian options on the menu, as well as some gluten‑free choices. I also tried the bubbly flight, and the pours were generous for the price. The drink menu is extensive. Overall, it was a great evening with good food and drinks.

Okay, we love the food and the drinks here, the ambiance is great, yet what kills me is at how inefficient this operation is and it only seems to be getting worse. This is our 3rd time here and it's gotten amply worse with each go over the last year. Management needs to figure it out and decide on being a high end restaurant with wait times or registrations, not churning people that are borderline pissed off like I was waiting for 40 mins with a half empty restaurant. On Super Bowl Sunday weekend, you can't be shedding people from line with a freaking half empty restaurant as this looks and reflects really badly on District. My three suggestions for improvements to help destress your staff and also optimize the operation to give it this very high end feel that it has and can be: 1) Limit the food menu as right now it's too diverse and clogs the wait times for food turnaround 2) Reduce the kinds of cocktails that are made or create a set specialized menu to not bog the bartender down with side drinks 3) Remove reservations from being an option or tighten up the reservation timeframe to reduce downtime in the restaurant This restaurant was operating at 50% capacity today following clean-up from a party that ended 3 hours prior to us showing up after 8:30 pm (party ended at 5 pm) and the fact that there were reservations and people not there on time nor accounting for the Super Bowl weekend is such nonsense!!! You also are stressing your staff out who understand time pressure and do not need to feel this from inefficiencies set by ownership. Food pictured below and definitely wanted to enjoy dessert yet couldn't give another 30 minutes of our time here tonight. Hopefully this changes in the future so we can come back and until then, I gave this place 5 stars for the first 2 rounds and had high hopes that it would change in between after settling in further and it hasn't.

My foodie Friend and I were walking her dog and we were actually walking to the coffee shop down the way when she noticed their sandwich board sign out in front stating they had happy hour and! We had to go check it out!! I went to the bar to ask if we could sit outside and the bartender gladly seated us after checking the weather app on his phone! So sweet! It was actually raining often on earlier and we didn't think about it! Lol we were really just excited about oysters! The drinks were perfectly balanced with a little kick thanks to the bartender, Travis and the oysters were freaking huge!! It was two for one during their happy hour, so we got a dozen and two well drinks! The Moscow mules were perfect!! We were thoroughly impressed with the ambience inside the restaurant as well as their rustic modern look. Outside it was a traditional patio lake setting with heat lamps! We will definitely stop by here again, and I can't wait to try their other drinks. They also had a number of wines. More for us to try next time!

Date: Thursday, July 17th, 2025 Time: around 5:15pm Party of: 3 What: Happy Hour, every day from 5pm-6pm *2 for 1 Happy Hour Oysters by the half dozen ($21) *Happy Hour Fries ($9) *Happy Hour Elote ($9) *Happy Hour Ceviche ($9) *Happy Hour Deviled Eggs ($9) *HH Paloma ($9) x4 *HH Old Fashioned ($9) x3 *HH Moscow Mule ($9) x2 *SJ Mandate: 6 ($8.28) I haven't been to District in I don't even know how long. When the boys wanted to hit up happy hour, I was down. I remember they had a pretty good HH menu? Food wise, we basically ordered everything except the arancini and chicken wings. All food offerings were $9 each. They also had $7 drafts and $8 wells and wines. We stuck to the $9 cocktails and tried all three listed. The oysters were a lil pricey for HH at $3.50 each. The elote they cut into "ribs" so I found them a lil hard to eat. Everything else was good to munch on while sipping our drinks. When we arrived, we were one of the few groups here so just grabbed 3 seats at the bar. The bartender was lovely and let us get all our HH special orders in before it ended. Had a great time. Would definitely consider coming back for another HH. REVIEW #3818

We were trying to get our waitress, Esmeralda, for 10 minutes looking to order our last batch of happy hour menu items at 5:50 pm. Apparently that is too close to the end of happy hour at 6 pm because you're going to wait longer than 10 minutes to even be able to flag her down. I saw that she was being a host and bringing people to their tables outside while I was inside a table inside trying to flag her down without being too aggressive. When I was finally able to flag her down, it was 6:03 and she said there was nothing she could do to get in the last happy hour even though we've been trying to get her. And after I mentioned that, she immediately became defensive and said she was always nearby and it was our fault for not being able catch her earlier. I understand that's good that she was seating people and that it was busy but you can't blame me for missing the happy hour time when I've been trying to call the one waitress over. I think this restaurant needs to get more waiters who are not double shifting as a host too or at least check up on people near the end of happy hour so they're not missing out and leaving a bad experience. Or better yet, just increase their happy hour past a literal one hour. Overall the food is good, drinks are good, the service is too slow at times. I'd come again but I guess I'm not happy about this experience.

Came here for drinks and Esmerelda helped us out great. We were in a rush so we only got drinks but looking around us the food looked great. I will be coming back next week to try out their fry chicken and caviar and their oysters for sure for happy hour. It is a nice and relaxing here, not crowded and no rush at least for 5:30pm-7pm

Great small bites. The octopus was a standout with squid ink toast, shrimp gambas & corn elote was really good. Cocktails were great too. We really enjoyed our meal.

Came here for happy hour and walked in--light crowd, very chill atmosphere. The cocktails we tried were sweet and flavorful, exactly my kind of drinks, and the service was efficient. Food was a highlight: the French fries with aioli were addictive, and the chicken wings were solid too. Happy hour menu had great variety and excellent deals--definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a casual spot with quality drinks and snacks. Oysters also on the happy hour menu! Overall, an enjoyable experience. I'll likely come back to explore more of their menu.

District has added a caviar bump to its menu since I last frequented this location! I stand by my belief that this is /the/ corporate dining location in downtown San Jose! Everyone can order family style for the table and nothing is really meant to be had individually. I find that at company events if people can order for themselves, they tend to do so. Our table had 10 people and we did not sign a contract this time. We came on a Tuesday around 5 PM and were able to be seated after the servers pushed a few tables together for our party. The caviar was fresh and served as it should be- on a marble spoon lying atop pink sea salt contained within a seashell. We ordered approximately 60 oysters for our group- clearly the best Happy Hour deal they have to offer! The tuna crispy rice was good, the wings were well seasoned albeit veering towards the saltier side, and the ice cream trio (mint white chocolate, vanilla, and muscovado sugar) was very creamy and well done. I preferred the mint white chocolate and vanilla to the muscovado sugar, I found the molasses aftertaste a tad too imposing.

Auriana N.

Absolutely floored with everything that they have on the menu we stopped in for a nightcap and the wine list is massive. I definitely will say I'm coming back to try the caviar

Let love blossom cocktail: lovee this drink, I would even be down to drink the non alcoholic version of this. The drink has ginger and citrus flavors, super refreshing and light and you don't taste the alcohol at all. *forgot what drink* - the red drink next to my cocktail wasn't bad, but wouldn't order this again. Appetizers: Mini lobster roll - I loved these! They're fun to eat, the bread rolls were soft and buttery and they give you a good amount of lobster meat. I love that they give you lobster bisque in little cups. Truffle fries - loved these fries, devoured the entire plate. Could use more truffle, but they were still amazing. Ribeye steak: the steak was cooked to perfection, perfect medium rare and super juicy inside! Very tasty too. Salmon with potato puree and broccolini: the salmon was cooked to perfection, I never order salmon at fancy restaurants but the cook on this salmon exceeded my expectations. It melts in your mouth! The flavors were just okay though (for me.) Service is great, all of the servers are so friendly and welcoming! I can definitely see why it was such a popular spot for Halloween because they really went ALL OUT with the decorations! The atmosphere was festive, lively, and honestly probably the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, the cocktails were a different story. While they were fun and creative in presentation, none of them actually tasted particularly good. In fact, I'd go as far as saying the drinks were pretty bad. Thankfully, they weren't outrageously overpriced, and the fun atmosphere helped make up for the disappointing cocktails. Overall, I'm glad we checked it out for the Halloween experience, but the drinks were underwhelming enough that I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to return. Definitely more of a place to visit for the vibes than the cocktails themselves!

There are 10+ bar seats, and a ton of tables varying from 2, 4, 6 and 8+ seats. Their outdoor patio is large, covered, and has heaters. They also have their own bathrooms which are very clean and less busy than the ones in the market. They are first and foremost a whiskey bar, with two full pages of whisk(e)y options, including Bourbon, Rye, Irish, Scotch, Japanese Whisky, and American/Single Malt; they also have a selection of cocktails and other non-whiskey options (tequila, vodka, gin). I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't had any of their whisk(e)ys, but the cocktails I've had were delicious. You order directly from the bar, and the bartenders are friendly and quick! My favorite drink is the Raspberry Hang Glider (Vodka, Lemon, Raspberry Puree, House Syrup) which is light, slightly effervescent, and refreshing! I had this while eating a range of Mexican food (from Loteria Taco Bar) and I loved that it was perfect for sipping between bites of spicy and flavorful food. This cocktail doesn't taste very strong, but it packs a punch-sip slowly and enjoy! My next recommendation is the Limoncello Adjacent (Roots of Ruin Gin, House-made Limoncello, Lemon, Basil Syrup, Soda) which is tart, alcohol-forward, and elevated. This is definitely a pre-meal drink, or as a nightcap; I don't usually like such strong drinks while I eat (too many competing flavors) and the limoncello is on the sweeter side, so I would drink this on its own. If you like a boozy cocktail that hits you quick, definitely try this. Highly recommend stopping by Three Sisters for a drink or two while at San Pedro Square; the vibes are laid-back, elegant, and chill. I've been here with a couple of different groups of girlfriends and everyone leaves with a happy buzz! Cheers! IG: @waitingtoeat

Any place can serve wine, but it's the food, atmosphere, and community that make Goodtime Bar always a good time. The menu has creative flavor combinations that make it fun to try a little bit of everything. The serving sizes vary from smaller bites to sharables, so it works out great. My favorites I order every single time are the tom yum bucatini, steak frites, and tostadas. As for other items I've tried: oysters are flavorful and thoughtfully put together. The crispy fingerling potatoes with seaweed mayo are criminally addicting. I think the chips and dip are made fresh in house so they have that great real potato texture and flavor. Pro tip: GET THE BREAD. Perhaps a secret menu item. An order comes with a few slices of perfectly toasted buttered bread. You'll want it to dip into the tom yum bucatini sauce. TBH it can be used for all the sauces... in the prawns is great. The chef is a master of sauce. And don't skip dessert! The creme brulee is my guilty pleasure at the end of the night, with a perfectly crisp, crackly sugar crust every time I've had it. The steak frites and a bottle of wine make for a perfect girls' night. There's a nice selection of wines at different price points, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. You can even taste their house wines before committing to a glass, which is a great as someone who doesn't know much about wine. The space works for different moods, too. Inside feels intimate and lively, with a fun buzz that adds to the atmosphere. Outside is lovely when you want open air while catching up with friends over food and wine. Disco ball nights inside are especially vibesy! One of my favorite things is the community here. Their Monday 6 PM run club brings together a welcoming crowd, and the post-run wine-glass offer is such a fun touch. It's a great way to meet people, and the friendly energy makes it easy to feel included even if you come solo. I've gone a couple times when time permits and everyone is sooooo friendly. All paces are welcomed and they have a few people appointed to help direct and make sure no one gets left behind. They also have options beyond wine, including a yuzu cocktail and nonalcoholic drinks like Hiyo. There's a few nearby downtown SJ lot with 90-minute free parking. TL;DR: Come for the food, stay for the wine, and leave loving this DTSJ hidden gem. Whether it's a girls' night, a necessary glass after work, or a Monday run-club meetup, Goodtime Bar is one of my favorite spots in SJ. Rightfully deserved my first Yelp food review.
