What crazy person thought they should put an office here before? Smh. This spot should have always been a restaurant and I'm so glad it's this one! The restaurant I was planning on going to was closed, so my boyfriend and I decided to check this place out. We were seated and given water immediately, so we were already off to a good start. I ordered a Chardonnay to drink - I forgot the brand but it was better than most that I've had lately. To eat, we seriously ordered like half the menu (the happy hour menu was awesome!). My boyfriend loved the pickled veggies and prosciutto wrapped dates so much that he ordered two of each. Oysters were $1 each so we ended up ordering like 18 of them lol. We came here for a happy hour that turned into dinner. I'm excited to make this place a new regular spot. They have indoor and outdoor seating (with heat lamps) and we heard from our server that they own more space that they may use to expand in the future. 3.5 STARS I distinctly remember my first visit to District San Francisco... The food and wine was good, and the loungey ambiance was chill. But, then we had to watch a couple going at. They were sitting on top of each other, groping one another, and playing tongue twister. I remember cringing but now that I'm their age, I would probably be routing for them. You gotta get it whenever and wherever you can, and while it is inappropriate, you have to give them props for not GAF about what others thought. There was no such sight at the newly opened District San Jose. Perhaps because there's no couches like their SF location or because I dine like a senior citizen these days at 5 pm. This is District's third Bay Area location in San Pedro Square. It's a wine and whiskey bar that also serves tapas style, small plates. The biggest draw is their Happy Hour specials: $1 oysters, $6 small plates, $6 beer, $6 wine, and $6 wells that's available Monday - Friday 4 pm - 6 pm and Saturday 5 pm - 7 pm. Reservations are highly recommended. As a side note to Management, they should consider laminating the food menus or use waterproof paper menus. Both copies given to us were heavily stained with sauces and spots of oil. Their signature cocktails ($11-$14) have a wine or whiskey component. I tried the Inspector Clouseau: Strawberry Infused German Rosé, Shaken with Gin, Green Chartreuse, Lemon ($12): http://bit.ly/2iA5jFU. It was not balanced - too sweet and slightly medicinal. Not artificial tasting like how some "truffle" items can be when using truffle oil. *Shrimp & Albacore Ceviche w/ chili amarillo-lime-coconut (HH - $6): http://bit.ly/2znKveL Just ok, not overly acidic but nothing memorable. *Crispy Spiced Chicken Wings w/ mango-habanero-tamarind sauce (HH - $6): http://bit.ly/2zlfvd7 Dry, overly salty and the sauce tasted muddled. Skip. From their regular menu, we ordered the Glazed Bone Marrow w/ oxtail marmalade, herbed salad, thyme pain de mie ($18): http://bit.ly/2yAlpde. So disappointing! The bones were overcooked so there was barely any marrow with the ends being completely rendered. They strategically placed the garnishes on top of the bald spots so we didn't noticed there wasn't any marrow until we tried to scoop it out. For $18, it's just not worth it. The bone marrow at Firehouse No. 1 Gastropub next door is much better and you get three bones for $19. Since they're new, service was spotty as to be expected and there's long lags at times; e.g. it took over 40 minutes to receive the bone marrow. The hostess and our server were polite, and our server was there when we needed him. They need to work on consistency though. For example, our server introduced himself and talked about the wine and beer happy hour specials to all the surrounding tables except ours. Classy and dark ambiance with a huge horseshoe shaped bar like their SF location. No couches. Front patio is dog-friendly: http://bit.ly/2lXc4X1 with fire pits. Randomly walked by this place on an improptu date night. Saw the sign that said "dog friendly patio" and we kept looking to see if we should go somewhere else. Since me being picky, I had more than a few options here that I would love to try!! So we got a table for 2.5 on the dog patio. We ordered the Hef and a sour, the fried avo, with no spicy salt on it. The beef bone marrow, the mushroom pizza with no kale, and for dessert our lovely server suggested the bread pudding. The fried avo was a bit underwhelming. My bf had it with the spicy sauce and still thought it meh.. I know that is weird coming from us since so many people rave about it but try it for yourself. It was not bad, just lacking in something we could not name. The beef bone marrow was not very good.... mine squirted at me due to heat ad pressure and we were not impressed.. I would skip it unless you love bone marrow and want to give it a go. The mushroom pizza was amazing. Amazing! So glad I said to skip the kale, (I need my pizza only ok?!) and it was perfect; salty, cheesy, and you would think flat bread but it had a good fluffy crust! I was impressed! And the dessert was ok.. in photos, it looked a bit dry so I asked for extra caramel sauce. So glad I did because it helped hide some of the eggy taste it had. If you know me then you know I'm obsessed with tapas/small plate cocktail bars, and this spot doesn't disappoint. There is indoor and and outdoor seating and it's typically not too crowded. I love the ambiance of this place as it's low lit, not too loud, and can be casual or romantic lol. My favorite cocktail that I've tried so far has to be the re-tox as it is fruity and sweet, just like me! They have good beers on tap as well, and you shouldn't leave without sipping on the Berryessa DIPA One thing to note about this place is that they stop serving most of the menu items by 11pm, so i suggest you come around 9:30-10 to get the full experience. So far off the menu I've tried the lamb meatballs, oysters on the half shell, sliders (i forgot which one), beignets, and French fries. I would go into detail but I'm going to be honest everything is amazing. Oysters are fresh, and sliders are tasty, the lamb meatballs were sooooooo gooooood. I sat in a lounge-like area where the middle table was a coffee table and that made for a really nice laid-back get-together. It's a great spot for people watching. I tried 3 of their pizzas, the burrata and toast appetizer, chicken wings, avocado tempura, French fries, and the fontina/spinach arancini. I liked their international-inspired menu and tapas-style food. The arancini were fun and were presented very nicely. I really liked the crunch and airiness of the pizza crust. I was surprised that their pizzas were so good and so big. It had that wood-fired grill flavor and that cornmeal on the bottom of the crust. The waiters were accommodating and attentive. They catered to us asking for two bills. The outdoor space is dog-friendly. They take reservations! The bad: The staff here said they don't validate parking but that everyone else on the block does. I went to Old Spaghetti Factory next door and they also didn't validate. Parking is free for the first hour and a half though. I stayed for several hours and parking was only $5 so it wasn't too bad. The guanciale pizza was too salty from the meat and cheese. The sauces for the oysters got submerged in the melted ice along with the oysters. That is no fault of the restaurant's since it was just ambient temperatures that caused the quick ice melting but it's something you should keep in mind when consuming the oysters! Time is of the essence! The interesting: They have happy hour from 5-6 Tuesdays - Saturdays and offer $7 drinks and bites. They sell gift cards online. read more

What a great addition to Downtown San Jose!! I was pleased with the atmosphere and love how the place is pretty open. Came here on a Friday night for date night with my husband and glad we made reservations! There was a short wait for other people without reservations. We were seated right away and our server was super friendly and attentive! You can tell he was brand new because he wasn't as knowledgeable with the menu just yet. But that's ok! We truly enjoyed everything we ordered. My drink was sooo delicious - I got "My Favorite Crayon" and Man was it good.
