I was really looking forward to my visit here, as I'm just getting back again at Photography and it was my first time at District Camera. Unfortunately, I left disappointed and pretty upset actually. I asked one of their Reps if they repair Panasonic FZ300's and he wasn't sure, so he asked someone older who was repairing something in the back. With somewhat of an annoyed tone and unwilling to provide more info he shouted: "we don't repair Panasonic". I found it interesting that they don't repair Panasonics, yet they do sell them here. Anyway, I asked the guy if he could please provide me with a quote for my mint condition OM Systems OM1 as I'm considering selling, sounds like he didn't believe me that it was in mint condition (less than 200 pictures taken and purchased it 2 months ago, have my receipt of it as well) so he said that I would have to bring the camera. He couldn't even give me a price range. He also told me that my Point and Shoot Sony H-20 has a bigger sensor than my OM Systems OM1, which is ridiculous. I wish I could be here giving my 5 stars to a Local Business but my experience was just unpleasant and really disappointing. read more

This store is usually busy which is great, and the customers almost always seem happy. I've never had to wait more than a minute for help. I like to shop here because I'd rather support a local business than just use Amazon, and the employees are very helpful and polite. Jeff in particular has been great to work with. Burke Location | "Prefer to shop local....but this past experience did not help." Although I do all my product research online, I prefer to shop and support local business if all possible. I went to the Burke store to purchase a Leica m11 EVF. The lady was very nice and helpful. Apparently they only have one unopened unit in stock. A guy from the backroom came out and said if he were to open it for me do I have the intention to buy it or just want to take a look and buy it from online anyway. Since it is a local business I totally understand its concern or constraint. Given it was my first time visit I can only assume the comment was based on his previous experience and not necessary on me as an individual. However, I don't know whether it was his tone or how he said it, I found it unprofessionally and rude. He could have approached this differently but don't think he even tried. The whole interaction took about 2 minutes and I did make the purchase and left. I came with the sole intention of supporting local business and I did (even with the DC Leica store is about the same distance from where I live). The 3-star rating is for continuing to support local businesses in general and to the nice lady. However, I don't think I will go back to this store again given this experience. read more

Right in the Burke shopping center is this little store full of candy if you're a photographer. When you walk in you'll see a wide range of lenses and cameras, along with the most friendliest and knowledgeable employees that won't try to scam you into buying something outrageous. I was looking for something stronger than an af-s micro nikkor 60mm, and they had SIGMA and Laowa lenses that matched with my Nikon D7000. My subjects revolve around bugs, so the field of depth has to be right as well as the lightening. These people know their stuff, go here for any consultation if you need any info on cameras. I am a real estate agent and needed to rent a wide-angle lens. This is the first time I have ever rented a lens and I had a very good experience with both salespeople that I worked with. They explained everything about the lens I rented including its limitations with my type of camera. They were good about explaining the rental policy and what to do if I needed an extra day. They don't count Sundays in the rental. Their professionalism and knowledge is what made me purchase a few more items including a wide-angle lens better suited to my camera as well as some accessories and FILM(!) for my 35 year-old Minolta. I'm excited about getting back into my old hobby. read more

Today was my first day visiting here, while I did not intend on going in to sell or purchase anything I'd just never seen the store before. I feel like they made me a very good offer on my secondary camera, which was a Nikon Z5 and I decided to trade that in and get a new lens. If you go in understanding that they need to make money off of your gear to stay in business themselves; you see how fair of a trade it is. I feel like I got a very good deal for a lens I've been looking for for a while. I appreciate how open and honest and transparent they were while still trying to maintain their business and turn a profit which every business needs. While it was my first time here it will not be my last. This review will be pretty different than others. First of all, I have done a lot of research/reading lately about District Camera and truly respect who they are, what they do, how they run their business, and how they treat their customers. There are countless reviews stating how friendly and how helpful their staff is. That is backed up by District Camera carrying most, if not all of the products their competitors sell. I look forward to a beautiful relationship as a consumer of mostly camera-related equipment, specifically Leica and their "SL - L Mount" line and Fujifilm medium format lenses. Many of you, especially District Camera, think that this is my first post/review on Yelp. I can assure you it is not. For many years, the account I had was somehow hacked and tossed around on the deep or dark web (I'm not sure which is what), and it was quickly destroyed (at least all my information). The notices came funneling at me quickly, so I had to delete the account and start completely fresh. The way I came upon District Camera was by mistake. My significant other ordered a lens for me on Amazon; however, she (without my knowledge) ordered the wrong one. I spoke to Amazon, and they said once I receive it, call them (Amazon), so they can request a return. It wasn't until then that I learned that it was coming from District Camera. That's when I began reading all the excellent reviews and comments. That was also the moment I decided to give them a try and start making all my future camera equipment purchases with them. Based on everything I have read, I have no doubt I will be thrilled with my decision. This place is absolutely outrageous. They have no heart and treat people like idiots. I placed an old video cassette tape with them two months ago to convert to smart media. This tape is of a family reunion 21 years ago. Many of my relatives, including my mom, are now deceased. The woman told me one week and charged me a fortune. I knew it was too much money, but I was afraid to send it away, for fear it would get lost. This store was suppose to send it to their DC store. I called so many times and visited until I asked to talk to a supervisor. The supervisor had a hard time locating it but finally told me he had it and made up a lie that it was not copying well. But he will have it ready the next Monday. I went today, more than a week later to get it although no one called me. The same women gave me someone else's work. I returned and got my tape only to find out that the note said the tape was blank. Not only was the not true, but I already have a bad copy of it. I only wanted to see if I could get a better copy. Lies. While I was there an older man came to retrieve some pictures and the way that told him it was not ready, I felt so bad for him. She told him what she said to me like it was a recording, it's not ready, I'll. Call you. The older man said no, I'll be back, you told me they will be ready in an hour twice. She just smiled and said I know, like it was nothing. Don't ever go here. read more

Went to the Arlington location to buy a lens for my D5600 my autofiucus lens would not work. The staff there found that I had messed up the settings on my camera and reset them to the proper settings. They could have just sold me the new lens. But they were more interested in helping me then making a sale. They now have a customer for life. read more

Have done two online orders with them over the years, the first for a replacement lens hood and the second for a used flagship camera body. Very pleased with both transactions. My latest purchase was during the COVID lockdown, and I was contacted by the store to let me know the item was shipping soon. Enough time hadn't even passed for me to be concerned yet. When the rather large charge hit my credit card from an out-of-state vendor when I was also making charges here in Chicago, my bank understandably flagged it as a fraud alert. So disappointed. I have been shopping here since I was 7 years old, 31 now, when I first got into photography. I have purchased all of my gear from them since then, including multiple DSLRs, Mirrorless, and even film cameras for presents. I used them to make prints and bought darkroom supplies from them while I was in school. I have used them for trade-ins, they always gave a fair price and allowed me to upgrade my gear or just walk out with money in hand when needed. I have often received quotes online and then gone to District Camera where they have always matched or exceeded. This time was different and was the last straw for me. I walked in with two lenses and they offered around $350 less than what I was quoted elsewhere for store credit, out of the door money was nearly $500 less. Not a worry I thought, Eldar and his team will have no issues matching the quotes I got elsewhere as they have always done in the past. Nope - not even whiling to discuss it. The best they said they could do was offer close to what I was quoted for one lens but only for in-store credit (which I did not want at this time) and the same price for the other. I was completely taken aback by this as this was very unusual for them. I have had other issues in the past with this store but this was the final slap in the face. I do not plan on coming to this store ever again as they have shown that the death of the independent camera store is finally here. Excellent service, good selection, and prices that are competitive with the big online photo retailers. Great location - one of their stores is just a couple miles from my house. Have bought both new and used gear from them, and had photo prints made. Only issue I've ever had is that I've been unable to complete online orders from my phone - unable to make all the required selections; seems to be a problem with the web pages. Was able to complete orders from my desktop computer, but even there, ran into problems with payment; resolved by switching to PayPal. read more

District Camera is one of the best stores I have ever shopped at. Highly recommended. Several years ago I purchased a camera/lens kit at store close. When I got home, I immediately realized that the adapter that was part of the kit had not been included. I was devastated as we were leaving for vacation the next morning. I called the store and they stayed open late for me to return back that evening. Subsequently I sold some gear and did a trade in for a new lens, and that transaction went very smoothly. My second camera purchase from them went without a hitch as I was so pleased with the service I had received previously. This spring I was in the market for a used film camera. Unfortunately that camera ended up having some focus issues, but Eldar spent several weeks trying to troubleshoot with me and when we could not come to a determination, he worked with me to come up with an amicable solution to the transaction. I came here before a year or two ago when the store was much smaller in a different location in the same shopping center. Well about a week ago I decided to come back becauase I was looking for a new camera bag. Originally I was going to purchase a camera bag online, but realized that I need to physically see them before I purchase them. I found a nice camera bag that suited my needs. I know BHPhotoVideo.com was charging $270 for the bag I wanted. I figured a mom/pop retail store couldn't compete with BHPhotoVideo's prices. I was curious though so I brought the camera bag up to the register and asked the price of the bag. The gentlemn said "it is $270" but before he could finish I was thinking in my head "oh ok not bad. same price as BHPhotoVideo".. but then he added on "that's not including the additional 25% off sale we have on this bag going on".. my eyes and jaw dropped. From buying from a local mom/pop camera store, I saved about $70 on my camera bag. I couldn't believe it. Also, there was some dust on the bag. I asked if there happened to be a 'newer' one in the back. The gentleman went back to check but didn't see any. He said it was just some dust and he took the bag back and vaccuumed it/lint removed it and it looked brand spanking new! This is by far the best camera store in the area. It blows Ritz and Penn Camera away (maybe that's why Ritz and Penn Camera don't really exist anymore). read more

I went to District Camera when I cold not get ny Nikon Z lenses for my upcoming trip to the Gallapagos. The store salesman worked with myself and another buyer to re-arrange a delivery for one customer so I could take delivery of the two lenses I needed. The Lenses were new in the box with NIKON USA full warranty and i was thrilled with the lenses and pictures I was able to take with the new lenses. I have been back to exchange one lens and the salesman who helped me previously was there and remembered me. The offered a discount for repeat customer and did not charge a restocking fee within 14 days of return for the exchange. The staff is very knowledgeable, were patient with my decision making and helped me get the equipment I needed. Thanks to the store salemen who helped me. Once I arrived, I was very impressed how much care he put into wanting to perfect my images even more for me, considering it was such a quick turnaround, and they were busy. District Camera is awesome. I'm glad I found them! They're a bit out of the way given where I live, but they are 100% worth the trip in my opinion. Very friendly people, very knowledgeable, and accurate service. Whether you're looking to buy gear or need a repair, you need to go to this shop. I'm by no means a pro photographer ("advanced hobbyist" is probably a better description), and I don't know all of the intimate details of the art. Unlike another local shop, the people I dealt with at District Camera were great and I didn't feel like they were talking down to me. Last Saturday, I went with my wife who they helped immediately and spent a long time answering all her detailed questions, she spent $3k there. I also needed help and waited patiently for help, asking from the beginning and periodically after that. The man helping my wife asked the lady there to help me so she finally did for just a few minutes. I needed help with on which camera to buy, serious about spending minimum of $1k up to $2k looking at high end bridge cameras only. She helped me for a few minutes then asked to help a new customer who just walked in (I had already been there over a half hour by then). She helped him then another and another. I nicely asked when she would help me again and she said only two of us so I will once others handled, she spent more time with each of them than she had me and I not sure they spent any money. Then 3 young girls cam in and she spent tons of time with and they spent next to nothing. Now going on an hour later, I said something again and asked the man helping my wife to help me when done and the women said yeah he needs such and such answered. Then another worker came out from the back to help new customers, so she lied about two workers. I finally got help from my wife's guy, but asked if I could order via phone later and he said yes. Having decided, I called last night at 6:45pm, asking for and talked to my wife's guy, just to verify they had the camera in stock, plus the accessories I needed and how long to ship. I told him I didn't want to keep him past closing at 7pm, so I would call earlier tomorrow and he was thankful. I called after work today, Thursday, and they told me my wife's guy was not working till Saturday and that they can't sell a camera to me over phone. I explained that I was in last Saturday and my wife bought a camera and I was told I could call it in. The guy said I'll ask, after waiting long on hold he came back and said someone would call me back in 15 minutes to take my order, so I gave my name and phone number. That was over an hour ago and now they are closed. I have never felt discriminated against like this before, but I don't know what else it could be. read more

This place is great. The staff is very helpful and they match the pricing from the big online vendors (amazon, B&H, etc). They also do rentals, which is nice for trying something out. It's harder and harder to find local small businesses like this and given that they price match, I will always choose to buy locally here over amazon or B&H if possible. I got my Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera here with the RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM lens and was extremely pleased with the experience. Needs Customer Service Attention "Burke Store only: There's clearly a lot wrong with this store, look at some of the reviews on how they treat their customers. I was yelled at today, cut off, swore at because I was questioning the stores return policies and told an employee to STFU while I was talking. The entire situation was ridiculous, I've never fought and argued with a business like I did today, clueless employees that have convinced themselves they are providing great customer service regardless of how the customer ultimately feels. Others have claimed there's discrimination going on at the store and it's pretty obvious they're snobs at best and probably a whole lot more. What to be made to feel horrible about yourself, try out the Burke store. There's an "insiders clique" here and if you're not the right looking person you won't be let in. Like most photographers, there are places you feel comfortable purchasing your equipment. These are places you trust and feel like the people selling you the merchandise are trying to find what item actually suits you, and not what their perception of what "you need". Locally, the big camera store is Penn Camera. After three bad experiences with Penn Camera (all involving the store employees' attitudes), I tried driving out to Burke to see about PhotoCraft. Although the store is in desperate need of more space, their online "live" inventory is a great asset. They also have a lot of used equipment they resell at pretty decent prices. I gave this store 5-stars because it meets the most important things i care about when shopping for camera equipment: - competitive pricing (they will also look up other stores prices online to make sure they're up to date) - GREAT customer service. when deciding on which L lens to get, i had to go in multiple times to try out the various zoom ranges - they were very patient with me and never really pushed one lens over another. They made suggestions of 3rd party lenses to try and also other canon lenses to see if an L lens was really what i needed. When i was doing the same search for a macro lens, Penn was a lot more pushy and kept trying to "sell" an inferior (imo) lens that was not what i was looking for. i'm all in favor of supporting local stores owned by local people - and it really doesn't get any better than this, a store that can actually compare to the big boys (B&H and Adorama, sorry Penn, you're not quite ready to sit at the table without a booster seat). I know this store (like a lot of locally owned places) thrive on repeat business and proving their customer service is better. This store meets my needs for the essentials (lens, flash, tripod, bags) - and i'll keep coming back. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars. I went looking for my film to be developed and was met by an incredibly rude staff member named Sayed. He told me repeatedly that my camera was horrible even though I have used it for a year and have never had a single problem with it. I asked him if he would help me load a new roll of film in my camera and he did not do it and told me again how terrible my camera was. I have had many people help me load film in this camera with no issues whatsoever and he was so incredibly rude to me. I just got my photos back and they were developed horribly. They were clearly not handled properly. If you have film that you care about do not go to this place. read more

My wife and I stopped in here as we were in the shopping center and photography is her hobby. You would have thought that she died and went to heaven. The staff is very knowledgeable of the product and very willing to help answer any of your question. My wife has a nice tripod but needs a ball for it and he gave the rundown on what he had and process were actually really fair. We also have a dark room in our house and they not only still sell film, they sell the supplies to develop it. Score! The selection here was really good as well and they buy old equipment back so that is a plus too if you have some old gear and need to score some cash! Bottom line, this place should satisfy your photography needs whether it be film, lighting, tripods, diffusers, or a back pack... this is your place! read more

Photocraft is a life saver. Initially, I purchased a 50mm f1.4 lense from another website hoping it'll make it here in time before my friend left for his new job/new life. I had 2 days to make it happened except the day after I made the purchase, the other website emailed me and informed me they were backordered. I frantically searched through google sales and after hitting several dead ends (sites out of stock), I accidently stumped onto photocraft's page. To refrain from repeating the past, I called their 877 # and confirmed they had the lense in stock and the product would be shipped that day. The sales rep was extremely helpful on the type of shipping that would fit my needs and told me they would process it right when they receive my purchase. In my haste to purchase the lense, I selected standard free shipping instead of overnight (savers). I called them again and they were so helpful in making the adjusts and making sure my ordered was being processed. I am very happy with the service and if I visit my friend in VA, I'll definitely make a stop to this shop. Overall, great customer service, good prices, definitely a website I'll go back to for more equipment. read more

I do like Photocraft. Their staff is attentive, honest about products and they have lots and lots of things made from glass, some of which are made of magical ED glass. It's really a pretty great place. Their prices are mostly on par with almost anything you'll find in an online storefront. I wish they were open longer hours, but I cannot fault them for wanting to go home every once in awhile! If I had to mention something that I disliked, it would be that the store is a little tight. But, they're moving a few doors down in the strip mall very soon, and I even heard that they'll have an isle in the new place as well as possibly be offering rentals. Wicked. Now I won't have to wait on * and * to ship me some gear! They do printing. I'm not sure what their prices are. Honestly, I've usually printed online and sent them to clients so I can't comment on that. I do see lots of people going in there and picking them up though.. I really like that they let me go play with things all the time without ever giving me the stink eye, asking for my ID or thinking I'll mess up an expensive piece of glass. It's definitely led to a sale or two over the time I've been checking them out. They're trusting, and I respect that about them. It goes both ways. You can tell they don't want you to spend a grand on something you'll be unhappy with. They offer a 2 week return policy, obviously if you haven't damaged the goods you've bought and they're still in pristine shape. Not hard to do if you're careful and respect your own gear. I recently bought a lens here and it was quite obviously faulty. They totally saw the problem right away and were apologetic and promptly refunded me. (I inevitably put the money towards a more expensive option, but that's just me!) Service. I never give 5 star reviews unless a business is absolutely a cut above everything in some absolute way. I was in a pinch and needed to buy a video monopod on a Saturday morning before a wedding. They were the ONLY store in the DC area that had this specific Benro monopod. So I called Friday I told them I can't make it before they close at 6 but I WILL buy this monopod and I need it before I wedding tomorrow. They said sure come in a little earlier and someone will be there to help you out. I got to Photo Craft around 930 and quickly purchased the monopod with no hassle and then went straight to the wedding. They have a GREAT selection of lenses, cameras, and REAL professional products unlike other camera stores that mainly push accessories like cleaning kits and dinky camera bags. I only knock down one star because of their hours. For weekend shooters/corporate 9-5-er's like myself, it's tough to make it to Photocraft after work on Fridays. With DC rush hour traffic it's almost impossible to make it before they close at 6pm. They could probably make a bit more money if they stayed open a tad later for weekend warriors like myself who need last minute gear before a weekend shoot. read more

Love this place. I usually go to Ace Photo when I need stuff quickly since it's just down the street from my house, but I come over here when I need to make a large purchase and I absolutely LOVE IT. You can't beat the "ask for better price" provided by these guys. It sometimes even beats buying from BH! The staff are super helpful and tentative to your needs. They are very friendly and open. I do not feel intimidated when I shop here one bit unlike some other local camera stores. This is about a 45-minute drive from where I'm at, but it's definitely worth the drive. I'll revise my rating having shopped more for camera stuff. I've been back in their once since then at the owner's request. It's still a very small and empty, customer wise, store the times I've been there but the staff is nice and they're not pushy about sales. For some people I imagine this to be a positive as it allows them to get the service they need promptly, to me it's also a bit of a negative - I just feel akward in empty stores. But that's a me thing. I can't give them 5 simply because while they're nice they're not my favorite (blame location or amazon or something maybe). read more

Very happy with my experience at PhotoCraft today. I wanted to compare 2 $1200+ lenses to decide which was the best one for me. They didn't have any problems letting me walk out of the store with their lens (1 at a time of course) to take a set of comparison photos outside. Then, after I had decided and was ready to buy, I asked for their best price. They then proceeded to take an extra $40 off to compensate (mostly) for the tax I have pay there in the store vs buying online, and yes, their advertised price had already matched Amazon and B&H. Lastly, after I gave them my address for their files and they realized I had driven 25 minutes to see their store, they genuinely thanked me for coming in. In summary, good customer service, great price, and an all around great experience. I will definitely be going back then next time I'm in the market for equipment. read more
