Listen, I've been coming here for a while now and I want to say I absolutely love it without fail but that's not always true. I will say where I can say I don't love them 100% of the time is the staff. I have seen new staff come and go, and I've seen senior staff stay (which is always nice to see them). BUT not everyone is very welcoming or polite. I don't need kissasses or anything but for those who are looking for "outstanding" sales people, I will warn you that some of the staff are a little rough around the edges. Now, with that said, I think that there are staff members who are beyond kind and welcoming and make me love this place (when they are present). I think this is an awesome store to grab what you need and even be able to talk about what products best suit you and your needs. Again, overall I love it here, there are just a few too many experiences where I've left feeling that the staff don't actually respect me as a customer - which is fine but leaves me feeling discouraged and hesitant to return. read more

Be careful about what you are ordering. I ordered a camera online that CLEARLY had a photo of what I wanted (because I own one) and the correct model number. I clicked through to the site from Google Shopping and it did not say unavailable or anything, but the exact same photo (price, too) came up with a slightly different model number, so I didn't notice a missing 0. My receipt shows the same camera. Mo refuses to apologize. He said he would refund it if I send it back. I had the camera shipped out of the country at extra expense and sending it back will cost more than the purchase (taxes, shipping 2 ways) The product does not match the photo. read more

I used to get my film developed and prints done here and meant to leave a review some time ago. Thought service was fine the first time. Then there was a time where I'm glad I checked my prints in the car before leaving and there were lines across the photos, so I took them back in and they apologized and rescanned and printed for me right then which was nice (however I just wish they did this sort of check on their own). Then the time after that, there was a miscommunication where I guess it wasn't clear I wanted prints, and the woman (don't know her name) I spoke with was rude about it when I was picking up and had told her. Also didn't realize how high the prices are here until I tried looking for places I could ship my film to. I am now developing at Memphis Film Lab which does take a little bit longer but literally is half the price here. read more

This is my go-to place in the area for my camera and photography needs! Service: It's quick, easy and very smooth with everyone who works here. I'm in and out in less than 5 minutes usually. It can get busy, but the wait is super short. If it's your first time, they help you out with everything. They are honest and direct. I would recommend talking to Kaileaa, she is the person I go to everytime From my first visit, she's helped me with all my film needs. I also really like Bob, he's a really nice guy. They have a wide selection of film cameras, digital, and just anything that is in the realm of photography. Their selection is diverse and they have so much film! Well worth the hour & 40 minute trip. Virtually impossible to find well equipped professional camera shop in my area. Searching DMV vicinity produced 2 viable options. Having dealt with District Camera years ago & doing repeat business would be no-brainer. A rainy dreary Saturday ruled out trip into town (either location) so I opted to explore a new business in Sterling; Ace Photo. Glad I did. Upon arrival I asked to speak with gentleman who assisted in an earlier phone conversation. Don was extremely knowledgeable & helpful. I recently was thinking about purchasing a new camera due to my prior one being a way older model. I dont know much about cameras so i figured id call Ace photo. I called on a Sunday and I was hoping to ask a few questions to get a better understanding of what i should purchase and why. Regrettably, as soon as the employee answered the phone, finally, i was immediately put on hold for a duration of time i dont think anyone would be willing to wait. I ended up calling again multiple times, hoping that there was some kind of issue regarding the technical difficulties of the phone call or maybe his poor communication skills so that there would be some sort of valid excuse. To my dismay, it was a complete lack of communication with the customer and had zero regard whatsoever. It also seemed as if he was trying to evert the responsibility to a coworker and just didnt want to be there. It seems like this person doesnt care to sell any product nor does this person care to do his job that he gets paid to do. Im not the type of person to rant due to these kinds of altercations but the behavior of this certain employee cannot be over looked. If i was to hire someone i would hope they would show some initiative and atleast do the bare minimum of their own job so the business could operate properly while im not there, therefore building a sense of trust between employees and managers and having a business that can operate smoothly. Went looking to see the Sony a6700 that was released July 2023. I was certain they would have Sony's most recent crop sensor camera. There was nothing on display and someone behind the counter was trying to tell me the Sony a6500 was the same. I'm a Sony shooter so I know full well these two bodies are very different. Went in a couple of days ago looking to add to my vlogging setup and had heard good things about the shop. To my dismay the organization and management of this store left a lot to be desired. I walk in and was able to browse but when it came time to ask questions about specific items there was nobody available, maybe understaffed I'm not sure, just one employee who was already dealing with customers who would call out and even went to the back to try to get attention from some guy noticeably more interested in watching a soccer game than to make a sale. When another employee finally came out of the back he avoided me, avoided other customers, and avoided the other employee that had multiple customers waiting for their help. He quickly went back into the back room and later on I heard "GOAL!!!!!" really loud while still waiting to get any type of help. I ended up leaving with nothing and after a hour hadn't received any help. Very unprofessional, whoever the manager is needs to do better and check on if it's worth paying this employee, (black hair and glasses) to watch sports and avoid helping both customers and employees. I was very disappointed and will not be coming back here as I will spend my money at a shop that actually wants it and will actually help its customers read more

This happened on 28th December --2022 I visited ACE Photo, Ashburn , Virginia to sell my Lenses .. They are in pristine condition( SONY F 70-350, APSC and a SONY FE 85/1.8 ) The manager checked the lenses and quoted me a rock bottom price which is totally ridiculous.. Earlier December , they validated a different price and now this rock bottom price saying that the prices are comparable with some junk ebay posting .. Very poor valuations done here for used gears.. No camera mfr favorite, which is good (Sony and Canon are good cameras however) because there are many fine mfrs out there. My opinion of Ace Photo has changed throughout the years. I've been coming here since 2009. The folks here are pretty friendly and always willing to help no matter what. There's always someone available to answer a question. You may have to wait a few minutes while they're helping other customers, but what other place doesn't? Whatever you're looking for, they more than likely have it. They've always been helpful whenever I'd call in to see if something was in stock. This is also a great place to get your equipment appraised for insurance purposes. I had my equipment appraised and had no issues whatsoever. Support your local businesses! The one star is more for transparency. On a "holiday" like today their hours say open but no one is answering the phone as it goes straight to voice-mail saying their associates are busy helping other customers. But yet it always goes straight to voice-mail without one single ring. So is it closed or not closed? Their official website says open but yet given the nature of today being new year it would be great if they simply put a new voice recording or perhaps a simple website banner today saying they're closed if that's truly the case. Wow this place is so rude. I walked in to trade my fuji lens and the associate helping me was so rude he did not care about anything and literally gave me the f u attitude. I thought that's how he talked at first then I heard him talk to his coworker and he sounded 180 degrees different. What a great shop! I was selling a vintage Lieca M3 and some lenses. The owner inspected the equipment and gave me lots of good info. I decided to try an online company who had given me a higher quote (MPB) but that price was more "bait" than real (nightmare experience). Returned to Ace a few weeks later and they honored their original quote (which was now much better than MPB). Very friendly, knowledgeable, and honorable operation. If I could give this store and it's employees 10 stars out of 5, I would. I am a novice photographer that was in the market for an Olympus E-M10 mark III. I called Ace Photo and the friendly staff searched their inventory for the better part of a day looking for this specific model. When they called my cell and told me that it was not in stock, I decided to get the mark IV from them. When I arrived in the store, the staff gave me an overview of the camera, helped me pick out a SD card, and were just so incredibly helpful from picking out the right camera to showing me the basics. They care about their customers, are always happy to answer questions and have return policies that are consistent with policies written in this century. Will not provide this store any additional business. Very poor customer service. Staff at best indifferent but bordering on rude. I went there to purchase a replacement Olympus TG-6. Lost my last one, needed to replace in a hurry because I'm leaving on vacation. Ace only available. Vibe with staff just off. Felt like they were indifferent to my business. They asked for my personal data and when I questioned why, I was told if I needed to return anything I needed to be in their system. I provided. Turns out a family member already had a replacement so today (less than 24 hours later) I went to return the camera. I had unboxed it and put in the battery to verify operation but never even inserted the SD card or pulled off any protective coverings. Staff member went through this long process of examining each and every aspect of the camera and box as if I was pulling something over on them. They offered to take the camera back with a $50 dollar restocking fee because now it had to be sold as used. When I questioned their return policy I was bluntly pointed to the receipt where it stated no return on electronics (if that is the case why ask for my personal data for returns - since I only purchased electronics). In reality the restocking fee was only ~13% so not unreasonable, but the whole experience was exceptionally frustrating and centered on the behavior of the staff. I've worked customer service. A slightly different approach would have significantly changed the experience. Ace will never get any of my future business. read more

Since Ace Photo's response to my review began with an apology, I thought maybe they were going to try to make things right. However, it quickly developed into exactly what I expected from a store that does not know the meaning of customer service. If Ace Photo would treat their customers with respect the first time, then they would not have to monitor Yelp and Google reviews so closely. Regarding the Optech sleeve, the associate used the words "they don't make those." That is NOT the same as saying "We do not carry those" and laying out the reasons why another product may better suit my needs. That is what a good camera shop would do. In fact, I am accustomed to walking into their competitor's store and having an associate spend 1-1.5 hours with me making sure that my needs are met and that I understand the products they carry. That is the type of service that I had hoped I would receive upon first walking into Ace Photo. The conversation that I overheard was not appropriate in front of customers. My account of it is not skewed as I wrote my review shortly after it happened, unlike the responder who is "remembering" the events over one month later. I did not fail to mention that I "browsed the store while reading reviews on my iPhone." Yes, I was in the "back room," if you'd like to call it that (in reality it's another suite). Maybe a sales associate should pop in there to see if a customer needs assistance every once in awhile. Again, that would be what we call good customer service. I shop local, I support local businesses, AND my Yelp reviews do reflect it! Perhaps Ace would like for me to create a pie chart of my Yelp reviews for their viewing pleasure. My rating distribution is almost a perfect bell curve, as it should be. I use Yelp to rate all types of businesses and I write reviews based on my experiences, good or bad. Since Ace is so interested in my reviews, then they should have noticed that I have been the "First to Review" in EIGHT cases for SMALL BUSINESSES and that I gave FIVE of them glowing reviews at 4 or 5 stars because they deserved it. I am the customer and I can choose where to shop, so it was Ace's job to earn my business, which they failed to do. I work in sales for a living and I would never write a bad review just for the sake of "hurting a small business." Nothing about Ace's response "encouraged" me to return. It actually reaffirmed my decision to shop elsewhere. Provide exceptional customer service and you will not need to spend your time writing personal attacks in response to negative reviews. P.S. Ace clearly doesn't know me. I loathe Best Buy and I don't buy anything there. Off to another Small Business that HAS earned my support by treating me with respect. read more

Once she realized there were only a couple left in stock, she had one moved to shipping so it wouldn't get bought out from under me. Very sneaky! Be Careful when you buy and return stuff. Bought and returned a Camera Rig that I never opened (7 days after buying) The Receipt clearly says: No return for Electronics, cameras, or lenses. Other eligible items just returned in NEW CONDITION (Never Used) within 14 days..... When I returned it, one of the clerks took it to the back to ask somebody and came out saying they have to charge 10% restocking fee. This is NOT indicated in the Receipts Return Policy! The thing upset me the most was telling me: "Normally we don't have Refund policy in store, there is no return/refund accepted. We would charge you 20%, but now I'm just charging you 10%" ... while in your Receipt clearly states a totally different thing... Won't come back again! read more

I wouldn't trust the reviews the tend to over inflate themselves on here, When I told the owner i would post my dissatisfactory review he flat out told me that he can buy reviews. Honest users beware. I would highly recommend you sell the items you don't need elsewhere. I was one of their best costumers but from now on i'm taking my business elsewhere. I attempted to resell my sony AR7RII i was low balled and after i was offered $1600 for it the owner told me he decided to just offer $1500. I wouldn't normally send bad reviews on the fly but i thought i have to make this one count because when you are informed, you are most likely make good decisions.
