Visited for Aftershock 2025 Discovery Park is an excellent venue for such, with the only real flaw a lack of easy entry/exit to the venue when opening and closing. Great layout with plenty of space to roam, plenty of shade and excellent security staffing.

Found this place online with decent ratings and decided to give it a try. It is huge with a lot of parking and shade. However, we left early since the patrons seemed iffy. My friend told me later that it is not very safe and they avoid this spot. Sad.

Visited Discovery Park this weekend for Golden Sky Country Music Festival, and it was a lot of fun! I've never been to a festival at Discovery Park before; although, I know that the park has been the destination venue for many big events like After Shock. To my pleasant surprise, Discovery Park was very easy to navigate! The event set up made the festival reachable whether you were paying to park, arriving by ride share, or taking public transportation in. The grounds were well kept, but all the grass was dead. I know in the past that events have been cancelled due to flooding, and the location is big but not optimal due to weather conditions. Because Discovery Park is right next to the American River, I noticed fog creeping in as the night went on. It was cold, but a nice relief from the heat earlier in the day. I'm sure I'll be back for another event, and am glad that the park is big enough to host a festival of this size and popularity! It's part of what makes living in Sacramento so much fun.

I've been to several events at this location. Each has been wonderful though of course that is more to do with the event peeps than the location itself. So with this location, I really like the set up. It is a perfect sized venue to hold festivals of all sorts. The only down side is that there is no onsite parking. While paid parking is available just a 5-10 minute walk, it is pricey. Since I've only been here for concert events, I cannot comment on what it is like outside of that.

This was the first time I've been to Discovery Park. Supposedly the city of Sacramento transit worked together to avoid additional cars in the area. IMO, the park was cumbersome to walk through from event to event. The transit worked out pretty good until the end of the evening. We waited nearly an hour for the metro to pick us up. Supposedly they were waiting on buses from the event. Not acceptable. They should've ran two Metro trains to Folsom. This faux pas made for an extremely long night. Didn't get home until after 1 AM.

You ever wanna just get up and go for a DISCOVERY? Yes! Then get on down or up here now. There is ALOT of things you can do here with family, friends, or even yourself. 1. Bike riding from here to folsom on the bike trail. 2. Horse riding (bring your own only, non here but it is ok for them to come.) Seen people riding them and there rements left behind. 3. Boats, kayak, ski do, what ever you wanna do to float your self around the water. 4. Bows and arrows, they have a section of about 10 archery targets (hay barrels). 5. Fishing, get your arms ready for many locations. I know there is sturgeon in the water not sure what else might be lurking around. There has been sitings of seals, and i believe a whale made it close to here a few years back. 6. Nature, get your spy glasses or binoculars ready for the many different birds, and animals you can find. 7. Many areas open for family games of soccer, backyard baseball, tag, football, volleyball, but what ever you choose bring everything you need, as all they supply is the vast land to do it. 8. Swimming, be SAFE, whatch your kids and pay attention to the different currents swooping through. Different times of the years and levels of water make a huge difference. The spot that is dedicated to swimming has 2 channels that meet up. They do have life vests for free to use. BRING THEM BACK WHEN DONE!! See my pics. 9. Picnic, plenty of tables, and grills for BBQ, remember to bring charcoal no propane grills here, unless you bring your own propane grill. 10. They do have a spot for overnight campers, not sure on camping in a tent though. 11. They hold some festivals here too, check first before you come they close it down for them only. If no to discovering new things, well just stay at home and think of something else to do or not. The park is open year round from dusk till dawn, with a daily $5 for parking or you can buy a pass for the year at $50, which allows you togo many more locations. The prices for boats/trailers and for other things Check out this for more info about discovery park http://www.regionalparks.saccounty.net/Parks/Pages/DiscoveryPark.aspx Check out the pics others have posted for more fun stuff and things to see. There is a lot of full sized restrooms located all around the park i can think of atleast 4. Plus during the summer times they have added porto potties to accommodate more people. Reminder: becareful and remember your surroundings weather your in the water swimming or boating, walking or riding a bike or horse. Have fun, make some new discoveries, be safe and explore the great outdoors! :)

Play Structures: I was seriously impressed by the variety of equipment specifically designed for the 2-5 year old age range. It's hard to find parks that cater so well to that specific gap! Creative Designs: The creativity here is next level. The kids absolutely loved exploring the castle and the ship structures--it really sparked their imagination and kept them busy for a long time. Right next to the playground is a great duck pond. It was a huge hit with the kids and provided a nice, scenic break from the climbing and sliding. Even late in the day, the park felt welcoming and well-maintained. It's a perfect destination for a family outing where the kids can safely burn off some energy.

Just as with furry children, human ones also have tons of energy that must be let out. So instead of having them cooped up, I'd will myself to take them to the park even when I'm bone tired after a long week of work. William Land Park is THE best place to help kids burn off energy so they can simmer down and sleep well after they have all the fun. It's really not a bad thing, I don't want to sound like I'm begrudged to take my kids out to play, but you know how sometimes you just want to veg out at home after work and esp on weekends? Yup. But my wife's always right that it's better to just suck it up and take the littles out and let me run wild than to fight the inevitable and try to keep them occupied at home. So we make the trek and we're never disappointed, even when parking can be challenging (hint: don't go at peak times on the weekend, esp Saturday mid morning to early afternoon). With all that said, WLP is really a great place. It's huge, first of all, with a big free playground on the North West side of the park, then of course there's the Sacramento Zoo which is just the most iconic place in Land Park. Then for littles there's Fairy Tale Town which was really a hit with my kids when they were younger. And when they got older and wanted more excitement, Funderland was the place to be for several years with all the roller coaster and other amusement park rides that were good enough for their age when they still got the thrill of being up and down and thrown around on a coaster or a spinning tea cup or a rocking pirate ship. And it helps that both places are pretty affordable for a fun day out. What's impressive about Land Park though, is that there's something for everyone in this 166.5 acres regional park. I looked up some stats and it features 23 picnic areas, 2 softball fields, 1 lighted Little League field, 3 baseball fields, 2 bantam soccer fields, 1 full-sized soccer field, 1 basketball court, adventure play area (the free playground), tot play area with free wading pool (in the same area as the playground), an indoor community facility, several restrooms, several ponds, a 3.4 mile jogging trail, the Ampitheater, fee-based pony rides, and 5 garden areas including the WPA Rock Garden, 3 groves, 2 parking lots, the well loved Golf course, the Sac Zoo which my kids really loved as kids, Fairytale Town and Funderland as mentioned above. In fact, for awhile I was playing volleyball here every Saturday, it must've been a couple of years from spring through fall and even over the winter if the weather was good and the grass wasn't soggy/ground wasn't muddy from rain. I had a great time playing vball with young'uns half my age as well as those who were quite a few years older than me and yet were so fit they literally kept me on my toes. There were definitely some talented folks on the vball courts and it was all volunteer organized and free to join and play. I might have to go back to it before I'm totally out of commission. All in all, William Land Park is very unique and truly is one of Sacramento's most historic and special places. We drive by often, but don't go there enough, and really need to get out and get some fresh air and exercise on the beautiful grounds of this local gem.

But aside from the homeless, this place is awesome. There's a zoo, golf course, play ground and AMPLE picnic area. There's dirt trails along most the outskirts of the grassy areas. Not too much sidewalk so it may not be too wheelchair friendly. Aside from this, the park is most flat so there's no uphill/downhill. It's peaceful and rarely overcrowded, usually only during nice summer days. The park is so big though, you'd have no problem finding a place to sit. Schools and other groups often do field trips here. All in all, a great park. And grateful for the workers that keep it clean and safe for all of us to enjoy!

By 12:50pm the rain was starting to pick up and we were almost running for cover. I had my raincoat on, but my husband only had his leather coat on. He was warm, but getting wet. He wished he had brough his umbrella. The park is very lush this time of year with a few puddles here and there on the paths. We though we were on the capital look, but realized that the loop is referring to the outer edge of the park, we started on the loop and then wove through the park, so I'm going to just review the park today and post pictures from the interior park. I really like the cactus garden. It's a little scary at times as the prickles are so large and my husband is worried if he walks by too close they will attack him. So, we kept our distance and skipped the close up shots. Today some of the cactus was in bloom which was pretty spectacular. I loved their orange color and brightness. They really popped. They do have a warning that says keep out of the Cactus garden so you are forewarned to stay away so you don't get poked. I took a picture of a cool tree. The top must have been cut at one time because now there is only a branch that goes over the path. It's fun to read all the tree tags and see what kind of trees growing in the park. They have two types of paths in the park, some that are paved and some that are possibly finely crushed rock. Both paths were a little puddly today, but not too back that you couldn't walk around the puddles. There are a few benches in the park. May of the ones under the trees are occupied by the unhoused population. The ones out in the open are usually vacant and used by local workers to enjoy some fresh air and have lunch outside. Come enjoy Capital Park. I suggest you take public transit here if you are visiting on a weekday as the parking is slim on the streets, but there are aways garages available. If you come on the weekends, there is much more parking on the streets. So, you have no excuse as to not enjoying this beautiful park.

We even came on a windy day, and it was still a wonderful place to be. It is so spacious that it's the perfect spot to fly kites. A few of us were flying kites together, and it was such a relaxing, heartwarming experience. It's incredibly family and dog friendly, super roomy, and has so much going on. Because it's so clean and well maintained, this might just become the park I bring my kids to most often, and it is definitely a top choice for hosting future family events! It is perfect for a workout, sports activities, or just letting the kids play. I love the layout, especially how they designed the two separate grass areas where one sits at a lower elevation, while the other is level with the rest of the park. But honestly, what really blew me away was the restroom. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but I'm serious! So many park restrooms are cold, dark, dirty, and lacking privacy. This one felt downright luxurious. It is completely temperature controlled, which was especially nice since it was breezy outside! It was warm, well lit, exceptionally clean, and had absolutely no odor. It even sounded like it had a great ventilation system running. The only minor downside was the lack of toilet seat covers, but that's an easy fix. The entire park feels pretty new with a beautiful, modern design, conveniently located right behind the Sky River Casino. Highly recommend checking it out! Rate: 10/10
