It was a way to move our bodies, social distancing, and support the local business. It was also an excuse to get out of the house and get some fresh air. The four square park features a play area, picnic facilities & a softball field with lots of trees and grass area. One circle around the park is about half a mile. A great park for the kids, dogs and family picnic/barbecue. While I love McKinley Park and William Land Park, East Portal Park is smaller with less car traffic. Easier to meet someone and walk your dogs.

There is a large field with a little league baseball area. There is a pretty big pavilion to hang out at. There are two tennis courts, but I think that has been neglected. There are no nets and it really doesn't look maintained. Though, everywhere on the parks premises I've described is very well maintained.

We arrived around 11:30am and it was mostly empty - I think due to the weather. We brought our dog along as well and she was able to be off leash and explore. This park has tennis courts, a pool, a basketball hoop, a baseball diamond and a big playground area with slides, swings and multiple giant animal figures to climb on. I had to drag my daughter home yesterday because she was having too much fun! It's big and spacious and usually packed during the warmer weather with BBQ's and birthday parties. There is street parking which can be a bit hectic depending on which time you go, they also have a small parking lot next to the swimming pool as well. It's a good neighborhood park and we always enjoy our time when we go!

Many years later, I bring my children here and now a few generations later my grandchildren enjoy this park. My dad volunteered at the library at the park for many years and we ended up holding his celebration of life here (both in the rose garden and inside library). I have years of memories of hanging out here using the swimming pool, climbing trees, playing tennis & I used to run around the park when I lived nearby. We had roses planted in the Rose garden for my grandmother, my aunt and a child who died at birth. However, when they were redoing the rose garden, we had to take the plaques with us and now I have my aunts and grandma's plaque in my backyard with the same rose from the original rose garden. Shortly before my mother passed, we brought her to this park in her wheelchair and sat under a tree, enjoying a picnic with three generations of us. Needless to say this park holds numerous cherished memories.

The space was beautiful and easy to decorate, and was perfect for our crowd, and would be perfect for any gathering. There were several metal picnic benches large enough for 9 people per bench and the space had a nice roof/canopy to keep us out of the sun. There were bathrooms close by, so that was very helpful. There was plenty of toilet paper on hand, and a blower to dry your hands but no running water. I would recommend bring a large container of water, and wipes and set up away from the crowd for emergency hand washing. There were also two drinking fountains, but no running water there either. So come prepared.

Tahoe Park is one of our favorite places to visit!…read more We've lived in the area for almost six years now, and we absolutely love coming here. In the summer, they host food trucks on the last Friday of the month, which is always a treat. The park has lots of shady areas, two playgrounds (one for bigger kids and a smaller one for toddlers), and a track for walking or running. You'll also find fields for soccer, volleyball, and baseball, plus BBQ areas you can reserve. The neighborhood is safe and very family-friendly. One of the best parts is the public swimming pool that opens during the summer. They charge $3 or $4 per person, which is very reasonable. Just a heads-up--this year, they're only accepting cash at the pool. It would be helpful if they posted a sign in the parking lot to let families know. I've seen a few frustrated parents who had to unload all the kids and gear, only to find out inside that they couldn't pay with card. Despite that hiccup, it's a wonderful park for families and we're grateful to have it nearby!

We went to a church picnic recently that was held at Tahoe Park. It was a brisk and very windy day,…read morebut the sun was shining and it was a mild day so it was still a great day for a picnic at the park. The kids had a great time. Tahoe Park is huge. It's between 59th and 61st St going east and west and between 8th and 11th Ave going north and south, and it is almost 18 acres big according to the City's website. There are soccer fields, a baseball diamond, a full basketball court, a smaller but adequate kids playground, 2 actually, one bigger, and one for smaller kids. In the summer time, the swimming pools will be open, so that's a great facility for hot weather fun. There is also a big gazebo with tables and seating on the side closest to where we saw kids playing soccer. We hung out closer to the picnic table area since we were grilling up some burgers and hotdogs, and there were several picnic tables to sit at and plenty of room. Although that area isn't very shaded. Our church reserved the tables, but it wasn't at the gazebo so it was a bit hotter where we were picnicking, but since it was so windy that day, it wasn't hot at all. It was the perfect day for flying kites so the kids did that for quite some time. Super fun for them to try to figure out how to get the kites to catch the wind and keep afloat. There's a set of bathrooms near the playground but I didn't use them so I don't know if they were clean or not. All in all, this is a nice park that I've just never been to, guess I keep frequenting the same ones that are familiar to me, but this is an underrated park and it's in a safe residential area, so it's a great place for a BBQ or a picnic or a party. I'm sure we'll be back.

Heck, sometimes they'll still play on the play structure and I'm totally cool with that, they're growing up too fast! Sometimes I'll bring a soccer or volleyball with me and kick/hit it around with my son and have some father-son bonding time. It's a good thing. We can get competitive and give each other some good exercise. The other feature we like about this park besides the walking trail, the tall oak trees that give it a secluded oasis feel, and the play structure, is the exercise equipment side of the park, on the southeast corner. My kids like to get on the balance beam and try to walk across it quickly and try to push each other off. My daughter used to be really good on monkey bars and she'd climb those over and over too. Good times. We've also met quite a few nice neighbors here just by chatting it up, otherwise people keep to themselves in this area, but it is good to make some new friends and watch out for each other. A nice park to create your own experiences and memories! Just remember to use the bathroom before you come here as there's no restroom facilities here which is the one negative.

The play structures are great for littles (I'd say 2 to 10), there's shaded areas to sit, and it's always clean and well cared for. There's a workout area for the adults, too, and if you keep your eyes peeled there's a fairy door hiding. My only gripe - and honestly, it's a big one! - is that there are no restrooms. If those were added this would be a perfect spot. But as is, it's pretty damn good and we're super happy to have it in the neighborhood.

Arden Park Recreation is a nice community park with a lot of potential, especially for families and…read morekids. The park offers open green space, playground areas, and recreational facilities that make it a good spot for kids to run around, play, and burn off energy. It's convenient for the neighborhood and works well for casual visits, birthday gatherings, or just spending time outdoors. One of the positives is that it's generally a family-friendly environment and a good place for kids to play and socialize. The open space is great for sports, picnics, and outdoor activities, and it's a good option if you're looking for something simple and close to home. However, maintenance could definitely be improved. Some areas of the park feel worn down, and cleanliness can be inconsistent depending on the day. Bathrooms, when open, are not always well maintained and could use more frequent cleaning. Playground equipment in certain areas also looks a bit dated and could benefit from updates or repairs. Parking and safety can be hit or miss. While many visits are fine, there are times when the park feels overcrowded or lacks enough supervision, especially during busy hours or events. Overall, Arden Park Recreation is a decent local park and convenient for families, but better upkeep, cleaner facilities, and improved maintenance would make it a much better experience. It's good for quick visits and neighborhood use, but there's room for improvement.
