Relatively clean for the amount of people that visit. We came on a Saturday in the summer and we were able to find parking, with no issues. Be prepared that there is no restroom here and you will either need to change in your car or on the riverbank. There is a porta potty in the parking lot, but it is not clean. There is no soap and barely any water. Not sure if dogs are allowed off leash or not, but there were many dogs off leash, so if you have issues with dogs, be aware of that. Despite it being 95 degrees the water was still a bit chilly, but warmed up as you wade longer. Tons of shade, but no tables or benches so bring your own chairs. The geese and ducks are very friendly due to people feeding them and they will harass you for food, please don't feed them!

This is the place my dog and I fell in love with to go later in the day when the crowds die down to play frisbee. It's perfect for her and there's a pretty cool crowd of locals that like to fish and hang out that are fun to chat with too!

Would come back in the daytime when it's open gates are closed at 6:30pm. Has a big skate ramp place.

A lot of beach space, shade, and shallow water goes quite a ways out.

Great place! Plenty of beach space! Definitely recommend getting here by 11am on a hot day, because the lower parking lot, closest to the river, fills up fast! Portable bathrooms available only in the parking lots, not down by the water. Life vests are available, but it's first come first serve. No barbecues allowed at the beach, bbq allowed at the parking lot only. No alcohol, and no glass bottles allowed. The Dogs are supposed to be on leashes, although others believe not. Would not recommend laying your towels out unless dogs are leashed, because owners will let the dogs run onto your stuff. This is a great family getaway, especially on a hot day! I hope this answers everyones questions.

Plenty of parking near the steep ridge where you hike down a slope of gravel towards the beach area. I took my baby puppy 85 pound German Shepard Mother Kamala so she could swim for the first time in the American River. I let her off leash for 20 minutes so she could frolic like a joyful discovery pup in the river for the first time. Mexican music, bbq, bathing suits, children of all ages, races, were friendly and helpful.

the place you want to be all summer b & 28th is perfect for getting your tan on. usually packed on weekends so I suggest going on weekdays

    A great spot to paddle!

This is truly an undiscovered gem here in midtown. Having taken my dog to the dog park immediately south of it dozens of times, I had never gone past it and wandered down to the river access. Once I heard you could put paddleboards in there, it became a favorite spot. Decent and free parking, lots of dog friendly peeps, and with the exception of dog poop from crappy owners who don't clean up after their pooches, it's an easy place to hump your board down to the water. Just east of the main entrance it shallows out, so you can walk about a third of the way into the river before getting too deep, and there are plenty of awesome river animals to see. Turtles, loons, Canadian Geese, and last week there was an honest to god seal surfing the beach, and driving the dogs bonkers! Take a cooler, take a frisbee, bring your sunblock. The further east you trek, the less people, and since this is a free access, it's worth hiking a bit to get away from the lowest common denominators, if you know what I mean.

Ask the Community - Sutter's Landing River Access

    Can you bbq there?

BBQs or fires are not allowed on the beach or in the parking lot. Signe are posted and clear. Fines are steep. Don’t do it.

    Is this access free?

    This access is free.

I have been there but is to safe to take dog in water?

It is safe to take the dog in the water, it's quite shallow a ways out. You could always bring a dog vest too. Be weary, other dog owners do NOT keep their animals on a leash, and poorly supervise them.

Many years later, I bring my children here and now a few generations later my grandchildren enjoy this park. My dad volunteered at the library at the park for many years and we ended up holding his celebration of life here (both in the rose garden and inside library). I have years of memories of hanging out here using the swimming pool, climbing trees, playing tennis & I used to run around the park when I lived nearby. We had roses planted in the Rose garden for my grandmother, my aunt and a child who died at birth. However, when they were redoing the rose garden, we had to take the plaques with us and now I have my aunts and grandma's plaque in my backyard with the same rose from the original rose garden. Shortly before my mother passed, we brought her to this park in her wheelchair and sat under a tree, enjoying a picnic with three generations of us. Needless to say this park holds numerous cherished memories.

The space was beautiful and easy to decorate, and was perfect for our crowd, and would be perfect for any gathering. There were several metal picnic benches large enough for 9 people per bench and the space had a nice roof/canopy to keep us out of the sun. There were bathrooms close by, so that was very helpful. There was plenty of toilet paper on hand, and a blower to dry your hands but no running water. I would recommend bring a large container of water, and wipes and set up away from the crowd for emergency hand washing. There were also two drinking fountains, but no running water there either. So come prepared.

However, I was having lunch in the area last week and realized I have never reviewed it. The highlight of the park for me is the beautiful World Peace Rose Garden, which is especially stunning right now because all of the roses are in bloom. The gardens' central fountain creates a peaceful atmosphere and makes this a wonderful place to relax and walk around or sit and just enjoy the scenery. I almost always have my dog with me and she loves watching all the squirrels in the park and there are so many settings that make for a great photo ops of her. There are also lots of great manicured paths for me to walk with her. Another thing that I love about this park is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. As the mother of a veteran, I am always very moved by this tribute to those who have served. The statues are incredibly well done and it's a beautiful space for some quiet reflection. Parking can sometimes be hard and expensive, but it's a lovely park where I am rarely bothered, no matter how busy it can get at times. I definitely recommend stopping by if you haven't already and I will continue to return to this park again and again whenever I'm downtown.

We even came on a windy day, and it was still a wonderful place to be. It is so spacious that it's the perfect spot to fly kites. A few of us were flying kites together, and it was such a relaxing, heartwarming experience. It's incredibly family and dog friendly, super roomy, and has so much going on. Because it's so clean and well maintained, this might just become the park I bring my kids to most often, and it is definitely a top choice for hosting future family events! It is perfect for a workout, sports activities, or just letting the kids play. I love the layout, especially how they designed the two separate grass areas where one sits at a lower elevation, while the other is level with the rest of the park. But honestly, what really blew me away was the restroom. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but I'm serious! So many park restrooms are cold, dark, dirty, and lacking privacy. This one felt downright luxurious. It is completely temperature controlled, which was especially nice since it was breezy outside! It was warm, well lit, exceptionally clean, and had absolutely no odor. It even sounded like it had a great ventilation system running. The only minor downside was the lack of toilet seat covers, but that's an easy fix. The entire park feels pretty new with a beautiful, modern design, conveniently located right behind the Sky River Casino. Highly recommend checking it out! Rate: 10/10
