This was such a nice stop during our visit to Sacramento this past weekend. We're usually on the other side of the water in Old Sac, but wanted to check out the park and get closer to the river. The water levels were definitely high, with concrete pathways leading directly  into the water at some parts. But there is a public dock designed to rise with the water, so we were able to walk along the pier to enjoy some of the views while standing over the water (Old Sac waterfront, Delta King, Tower Bridge). We even saw (and heard) sea lions jumping onto the end of the dock, stretching out, playing, and relaxing, it was adorable! Back on land we walked along the trail on higher ground, watched the geese feasting on the plentiful grass, and admired the trees and nature all around. We even passed by the Subtile artwork by Federico Diaz and loved how it fit into the surroundings. The park and trail provided a calm and simple environment, and was clean for the most part (though underneath the bridge seemed a bit uninviting), and we appreciated every moment of our Sunday afternoon here. Parking was free and easy on Waterfront Place, near the Ziggurat (pyramid looking building). read more

This walk is so pretty and I'm a little sad I didn't discover it earlier. 1 star for it being easy to find parking 1 star for seeing lots of dogs 1 star for the gorgeous river view through the entire walk 1 star for the art installations (I'm sharing a photo of one) 1 star for all the pokemon go stops If I were to find a downside, it's that during certain times of the year, there are foxtails to the right and left of the paved path, so if your dog is reactive and you like to step off the path when another dog is coming to avoid a scene, it can feel like you're a little trapped. I'll definitely go back though. read more

First time being here and unfortunately me having to take LASIK medication I have to constantly have to be going to the bathroom. My son took me out of house for a walk on the Riverwalk and he told me there was a restroom along our walk. Well we ended having to go back home because I had an accident and it ruined my evening. Will never be doing this again. read more

This place is underrated! This park is an all in one package for Sac visitors/tourists to see the main highlights of Sacramento (tower bridge, Sacramento River, downtown views)! There's a lot to do here. I came on a Saturday evening and the park was very lively (but not overcrowded). The Sacramento River (including a boating dock) borders the park which makes it a great waterfront picnic spot. The ziggurat is a nice place to take photos. The scooters are a great activity to try out and make exploring the park even more fun. The park's end is also connected to the tower bridge where you can scooter/walk along and enjoy some city views. I don't know about how people feel about coming to this park everyday, but I think it's definitely worth a visit if you're just out having a day in Sacramento. read more

Excellent river views with shade from trees until the afternoon on hot summer days. Lots of people use this trail and I felt safe and at home here. Go for 10 minutes or 3 miles--it's awesome just to be outside in this weather. read more

Nice spot to go for a relaxing walk along the river during lunch, with your friends or with your dogs. This side of the river is more calm than Old Sacramento Historical District. There are a few trees to sit under for a quiet picnic. You'll get a great view of the drawbridge, the boats and the bustling scene of Old Sacramento across the way. I wish the city invested more to clean up the river bed. It's mainly a large space with dirt, but it would be nice to see the landscape improve with some greenery and more benches. I would like to see it grow into a welcoming and family-friendly space. read more

In my Bay Area living days, I have walked the most breathtaking trails... I have relied on a walk to Lake Merritt for clarity. I have walked a bird sanctuary in Hayward. I have given wild turkeys the right of way at Lafayette Reservoir. I have made an adventure out of exiting Powell Street BART station (SF), and walked the Piers until I reached the sound of sea lions sun bathing at Pier 39. I have felt the most amazing sea breeze at San Leandro Marina... THAT being said, I visited River Walk Park. Why was I annoyed at the lack of stimulation during my walk. Or how a nicely manicured lawn and paved trail abruptly stopped and lead me into a neglected trail under the bridge. Maybe I am expecting too much from River Walk Park? It doesn't need to glamorously expand from left to right for miles, have work out stations every mile or so, house mammals, exotic birds, or bambi, as tea lights twinkle along the trail. I guess River Walk Park is meant for those that work there. A kinda tranquil, 15min break place. A place to get away from the office, or have your lunch break if the gangster geese don't mind. You can zone out on the tumultuous currents of the river, fish at your own risk, people watch Old Sacramento from across the river, or conveniently walk the dusty trail into West Sac. River Walk Parks purpose is a quick getaway for mental decompression, resetting, and reflection. One day, I hope to accept River Walk Park for what it is and not what it COULD BE. read more

River Walk Park is located on the West Side of the Sacramento River in the City of West Sacramento. This 7.5 Acre park is just a stone throw away from Raley's Field and Old Sacramento. Hours are sunrise to sunset. Due to the fact that there are no play structures in the park for children to play, I would consider this park to be mainly for adults. Children playing in the the park should be closely monitored being so dangerously close to the river bank. The park is well maintained and offers quite a few amenities for visitors. Paved walkways. Picnic tables with BBQ are scattered throughout. Walking and jogging paths. A promenade, Grand Stairway for special events such as wedding. Veteran Plaza to honor those whom fought for our country. Union Square, E Street Plaza, Amphitheater, Educational signs along the walk describing the settlement of Sacramento as well as the natural habitat of the Sacramento River. and of course restrooms. The City of West Sacramento hosts major events in the park throughout the year. My wife and I had the opportunity to come here a couple of times for Sacto-Mofo food truck events. Love our Bay Area (Koja Kitchen Truck)! The amphitheater also hosts the Summer Concert Series " Harmony on the River", and later in the year the " Riverbank Music festival ". In conclusion : A nice park for a evening stroll or to enjoy special events throughout the year ! Parking can be challenging with street parking only ! I heard about the River Walk when I was looking for food places and it came up in a search. So today while running errands with the family, we decided to check it out instead of heading to Old Sac. I'm so glad we did! I have always wondered about that weird pyramid building you see from the freeway and now I know what and where it is! You can either walk on the upper level or go down to the grassy area and walk by the water. On the walk way there are informative little stations where you can find out the history of the city, while others were about trees and wildlife. There were a lot of people walking around with their pets or playing Pokemon Go. Since we went around 6 pm it was not very hot, there was plenty of shade and there was a nice breeze. While there was a few homeless people about and the flowers were looking a little rough, it was a pleasant discovery. I'm not exactly sure where the best parking area would be as we parked on a side street by the end of the park. I saw there is an event on Sundays that sounds so fun but I'm always working so I will probably not get a chance to catch that soon but maybe I can send my family to get me some food! read more

They did a really nice job developing this area. And then the people. . . 1. There is broken glass EVERYWHERE. We brought our dogs and had to pick them up several times to avoid cutting their paws. Sidewalks, on the street, in the grass areas-- shattered alcohol bottles, glass left from broken car windows--it was all over. 2. Our Jump bikes were taken out of the community last March when the pandemic took hold. I guess that rule doesn't apply in West Sac. There are some jump bikes still here but, the real menace are the electric scooters. They are everywhere, manned by inexperienced, inconsiderate riders who think the sidewalks are their personal obstacle course-- with people as the obstacles. When we weren't trying to avoid broken glass, we were trying to avoid scooter-riders who had little control on scooters that could do some real damage. 3. About half the people had on masks or made any attempt to socially distance. Large groups of people (hardly single households) posing, mask-free, for their Instagram fame. If not getting that shot, a large group of men takings shots will add that extra element of virus spread. And, if you're lucky, they'll verbally harass you, too. 4. Lots of drinking and pot smoking. It definitely wouldn't be somewhere I'd suggest taking children. It wasn't just people doing their thing, minding their business-- several men verbally harassed people walking by and invaded personal space in their inebriation. This was an early Sunday afternoon. Really disappointed in you Sacramento. read more

A solid walk for a lunch break or weekend morning. Usually pretty quiet, aside from patrons who may just have a stereo on their bikes. When I went, it was fairly clean and open. Didn't run into any questionable characters. Enjoyed the informational boards all around to read a little about Sac history and animals. We happened to find this place after walking across Sacramento's historic yellow/gold Tower Bridge. Starting the walk there's a "River Walk" arch and going through it, will lead you into a paved trail. There's two pathways, one along the river and the other is on a uphill area closer to office buildings. On the right side of the park across the river is the view of Old Town Sacramento. The cool part of the view is Old Town, a riverboat docked next to it, the Tower Bridge and skyscrapers in the background. Depending of how you look at it, it's not overly stunning, but the scene is a little half historic and half modern. At the left side of the River Walk Park is a corporate building that's shaped like a pyramid and in the surrounding area is dry grasses. This was my least favorite part of the walk because that side looked a little eerie. We saw some people doing activities at the park like, walking their dogs, doing exercises, jogging, and office employees taking a break on benches. On the other end there's a steel bridge that connects the West and East Sacramento counties. To use that bridge if you're coming from the river park and need to go on the east end. You'd have to use the stairs going up the bridge, then walk a narrow path going towards the end of it. At that point you would have to cross a freeway entrance to get to a sidewalk going down on a ramp that leads to the California State Railroad Museum. When going this route like we did, be cautious especially when you're walking with traffic. It may not be as attractive like San Antonio's Riverwalk, but to stroll through this park and get a scenic view of this part of the city is a good addition to your Sacramento experience. read more

I work right by this park and walk it frequently. The park itself stretches from the Tower bridge to the I Street bridge. Over by the I Street bridge, there is a memorial bicycle structure that is pretty cool. This is not really a "lets go and play" park, or a "let's go hang out park"... its more of a "i've got to walk through to get somewhere park." Well, OK, I guess they do have special events here sometimes, so I guess its occasionally a "theres some sort of event there park" as well. The park is great in the day time, but in the night it gets a little rough. I mean, its already a little rough at times during the day, but at least you can see. I've walked back from the Golden 1 Center back to my building after dark and it is honestly a little scary. Its not well let by any stretch and there always seems to be one or two people walking in the area at all hours. The space itself is nice and well maintained. At the top of the park, there's a nice walkway of concrete and brick pavers. Its wide enough to accommodate pedestrians and bicycles without any issue. I'd say the walkway at the top is the most used part of the park, since there are two office buildings that probably house close to 2,000 people between the two of them. You'll see a lot of office workers on break during the work week. There are almost always a few homeless people out at the park. For the most part, they are nice, but every now and then you will encounter someone who is not completely stable, and those interactions can be a little dicey. For the most part though, they will either leave you alone or are friendly. Other than the pathway up top, there is a nice sloped lawn that is well maintained that makes up the rest of the park before it meets the river. There are a few picnic tables, some garbage cans, and a lot of geese that are down in the lawn area. The geese can sometimes be a little aggressive, so watch out for those guys. There are also stairs that lead down the sloped lawn, so you don't have to roll down the grass if you don't want to. There are often people using the steps to work out. The coolest part about the park is that during heavy rains, you can watch the river rise and at times, it will overtake the park. One year, I recall people were able to fish from the elevated walkway. Unfortunately, once it floods, it gets pretty nasty down on the lawn once the water recedes. I would never make a special trip to come to this park, but since I work nearby, I am glad it is here and appreciate the work the city does to maintain it. read more

Currently sitting in our camper in the parking lot. After looking for a neat spot to stop for lunch on our drive north and seeing this park had good reviews we decided to try it. It's basically a homeless camp. The bathrooms are disgusting and we won't be taking the river walk because I'd prefer not to be harassed by homeless people with my two young children in tow. I've never spent time in this city but so far not impressed. Won't be stopping here next trip. read more
