My favorite park to walk/run! The trees are so different! So many things to do there. Tennis Courts, picnic tables, folks walking their dogs, kids /adults alike play kickball, and soccer. People also have intimate picnics and so romantic

Love this park, and love the playground! We went to story time at the library then played here after. Its big, clean and well maintained with tons for the kids to do. Fun toddler area. Super busy on a Thursday!

Such a beautiful park. Large grass area to play and set up a volleyball game or just relax, plenty of picnic spots with tables and bbq grills, bathrooms, a rose garden, duck pond and a good size playground for the kiddos. Parking is available all around the parameter of the park but spots do fill up quick and finding a spot can be a hit or miss. Plan ahead and get here early to allow for time to find a parking spot.

A pretty nice park in East Sac. When my wife and I want some quiet time to reconnect, we come here sometimes. She's big on flowers, but not really cut flowers (they die and that's depressing, she says, logical). So the rose garden here really brings her joy. I'm Mr. Allergic to flowers and grasses, but I comply out of love for her. So we like to walk through here and in the cool of the day my allergies don't kick up as much either in the morning or evening, but in any case, I don't get too close to the flowers. I do like nature photography, so I'd take some pictures of the flowers and my wife enjoys them as her desktop wallpapers or screensavers. All in all, this is a nice park, there's a lot of open spaces and the garden is truly a treasure in Sac. Thanks to all the volunteers who planted and keep this garden of gems in our City of Trees!

I absolutely love McKinley park! It's a huge park full of different areas for anyone! The park includes a tennis court, covered benches/tables, uncovered benches/tables, lots of grass area, a soccer area (no nets), giant pond home to the ducks and geese, big beautiful trees, a public pool, playground, and the library. The park has a trail around the perimeter for jogging, walking, or running, there's parking all around the park as well. The park is so beautiful as is and when the rose garden is in bloom it is incredible. The roses are so gorgeous and people always come to take grad photos, prom photos, quinceañera photos etc.. This park is perfect for spending time reading in the shade, gathering with friends, letting your kids run around or whatever! My friends and I love gathering here for picnics and book club and we always are able to find a spot in the grass under the big trees. Definitely check this park out!

My friends and I had a book club meeting here. I highly recommended this park for book clubs, picnics, etc. It was very shaded, which was so nice as it was almost 100 degrees. There was plenty of parking and not too many people around. We had a wonderful time. There are tennis courts, soccer fields, and the rose garden which is absolutely gorgeous. There are also a ton of things near the park to walk to as well. Highly recommend!

I love McKinley Park, been coming here for the past 10 years. Some highlights of the park are - Library - Community Center - Tennis courts - Full size playground - Garden Area - Tennis - Bathrooms - Lake area - Swimming Pool Most importantly it's clean. Every time I'm here the park is clean, and I never notice any trash. Even though there are birds here, I don't remember seeing any poop anywhere lol. Overall would highly recommend this park for activities and picnics. One of my favorite parks in Sacramento!

I love coming here to enjoy the rose garden and take pictures on special occasions. Today was no exception as it is my dog's 10th birthday and I wanted to take a few pictures of him. McKinley Park is always beautiful and the rose garden is especially lovely this time of year. If you haven't stopped by yet, please do!

I love this park! It has tennis courts, a basketball court, soccer fields, picnic tables, a library, a swimming pool, a pond, Clunie Center, library and Rose garden, running track around the outside and more! There is free yoga every Saturday at 9am by the rose garden through the nonprofit organization "Yoga Moves Us" from April to September.

Ask the Community - McKinley Park

How safe is this park? Any crime? Safe to come alone with my child?

I feel it's one of the safest parks in Sac. I don't know about being there late at night though

Has anyone been here lately? Are the playgrounds still open?

    Yes

Is this park closed due to Covid?

Nope, it's still very busy. Most everyone has a mask on or is social distancing. The kids playground and the swimming pool are closed.

What month are the roses in bloom?

They start blooming as early as April and May!

Is there any fall foiliage here during oct/nov?

    Yes, absolutely and beautiful

What are the limitations and costs (if any) for parking in the McKinley Park area?

They just recently posted 3 hour parking signs around the park (from 8am - 11pm). The parking is free.

Are there meet up exercise groups at the park on the weekends?

That I am not certain. I believe there is Yoga on Sunday mornings and I did see a group of women with their babies working out as a group. I recommend checking the website and see what they offer. It was my first time at this park.

    Is there pickup basketball?

    not that i've heard

    Is this park dog friendly?

Yes, as long as it's on a leash.

My family and I came…read morehere on a Sunday evening to wind down and end our day, and it is by far one of the best and cleanest parks in the Elk Grove area. We even came on a windy day, and it was still a wonderful place to be. It is so spacious that it's the perfect spot to fly kites. A few of us were flying kites together, and it was such a relaxing, heartwarming experience. It's incredibly family and dog friendly, super roomy, and has so much going on. Because it's so clean and well maintained, this might just become the park I bring my kids to most often, and it is definitely a top choice for hosting future family events! It is perfect for a workout, sports activities, or just letting the kids play. I love the layout, especially how they designed the two separate grass areas where one sits at a lower elevation, while the other is level with the rest of the park. But honestly, what really blew me away was the restroom. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but I'm serious! So many park restrooms are cold, dark, dirty, and lacking privacy. This one felt downright luxurious. It is completely temperature controlled, which was especially nice since it was breezy outside! It was warm, well lit, exceptionally clean, and had absolutely no odor. It even sounded like it had a great ventilation system running. The only minor downside was the lack of toilet seat covers, but that's an easy fix. The entire park feels pretty new with a beautiful, modern design, conveniently located right behind the Sky River Casino. Highly recommend checking it out! Rate: 10/10

Just as with furry children, human ones also have tons of energy that must be let out. So instead of having them cooped up, I'd will myself to take them to the park even when I'm bone tired after a long week of work. William Land Park is THE best place to help kids burn off energy so they can simmer down and sleep well after they have all the fun. It's really not a bad thing, I don't want to sound like I'm begrudged to take my kids out to play, but you know how sometimes you just want to veg out at home after work and esp on weekends? Yup. But my wife's always right that it's better to just suck it up and take the littles out and let me run wild than to fight the inevitable and try to keep them occupied at home. So we make the trek and we're never disappointed, even when parking can be challenging (hint: don't go at peak times on the weekend, esp Saturday mid morning to early afternoon). With all that said, WLP is really a great place. It's huge, first of all, with a big free playground on the North West side of the park, then of course there's the Sacramento Zoo which is just the most iconic place in Land Park. Then for littles there's Fairy Tale Town which was really a hit with my kids when they were younger. And when they got older and wanted more excitement, Funderland was the place to be for several years with all the roller coaster and other amusement park rides that were good enough for their age when they still got the thrill of being up and down and thrown around on a coaster or a spinning tea cup or a rocking pirate ship. And it helps that both places are pretty affordable for a fun day out. What's impressive about Land Park though, is that there's something for everyone in this 166.5 acres regional park. I looked up some stats and it features 23 picnic areas, 2 softball fields, 1 lighted Little League field, 3 baseball fields, 2 bantam soccer fields, 1 full-sized soccer field, 1 basketball court, adventure play area (the free playground), tot play area with free wading pool (in the same area as the playground), an indoor community facility, several restrooms, several ponds, a 3.4 mile jogging trail, the Ampitheater, fee-based pony rides, and 5 garden areas including the WPA Rock Garden, 3 groves, 2 parking lots, the well loved Golf course, the Sac Zoo which my kids really loved as kids, Fairytale Town and Funderland as mentioned above. In fact, for awhile I was playing volleyball here every Saturday, it must've been a couple of years from spring through fall and even over the winter if the weather was good and the grass wasn't soggy/ground wasn't muddy from rain. I had a great time playing vball with young'uns half my age as well as those who were quite a few years older than me and yet were so fit they literally kept me on my toes. There were definitely some talented folks on the vball courts and it was all volunteer organized and free to join and play. I might have to go back to it before I'm totally out of commission. All in all, William Land Park is very unique and truly is one of Sacramento's most historic and special places. We drive by often, but don't go there enough, and really need to get out and get some fresh air and exercise on the beautiful grounds of this local gem.
