    Splash area.

One of the better splash parks my family has been to. Nice large area for kids to play in the water with colorful characters and multiple ways to enjoy. Shaded seating for parents. Close by bathrooms and a playground. Will bring my family back. :)

We've enjoyed coming to Swanston Park on hot summer days. Arriving in the late afternoon there is a fair amount of shade and usually at least a slight breeze, making it comfortable even in 100 degree weather. On our visits, all the water features have been working and we've been able to cool off. The kids love it and there's a playground nearby, though that has minimal shade. We'll definitely return. This park is great for kids who need to cool off!

This is a great park! They have the typical playground area with wood chips and a sand pit (eww... but kids like sand so, OK). They have a tennis court, basketball courts, picnic areas, lots of open grassy space, etc. There is a community center that seems to always have something going on (seasonal parties, music lessons, old folks cafe, etc). The real draw here, though is the SPRAYGROUND! When the weather warms up they run it on weekends. Summer time they run it every day. When it's 100°+ there is still fun to be had outdoors. There is shaded seating for parents right along the edge of the sprayground (but it doesn't seem big enough). Wear sunscreen, a bathing suit, and some flip-flops and prepare to get wet! Oh yeah, the ice cream men hit this place hard so bring some cash if you can't say "no."

I can't believe it took us two years to find out about this place! The real star here is the "splash park" which has a nice little area where kids can run around in fountains of water, spray each other with water cannons, or dump large buckets of water on each other. It's not huge but it has water attractions for kids of all ages. My son who's not yet 18 months still had a blast running around in the water and I was pleased that the older kids were considerate enough to watch out for him. It's very safe in general, there's not much standing water that could be dangerous for the little ones, but I still stood nearby to help him out. They also have large shade tents for the parents, and nearby picnic tables for lunch. We didn't look around at the rest of the park too much but in general it seemed exceptionally clean and well kept. We'll definitely be back.

    Playing out on the field

This park is great from kids and parents with moderate expectations. Obviously if you're driving down Northrop you're going to be distracted with the visible blighted neighborhood, but that shouldn't keep you from coming to this park. For the most part, people are good and nothing harmful is going to happen to your children if you keep an eye on them. For the women who previously commented on the "Sheriff's Cars" parked out front - well, she should have read what was on the cars - Teen Youth Program. (These cars are parked there every day) There's a community center attached to this park and the Sheriff's department goes there to work with teens and young children. It's an awesome program and its shouldn't be looked down on negatively. Now for the actual park - There are many different water features at the park, much more than the one on Pope Avenue which is the only closest comparison. There's spray guns, water that shots up from all different areas and a rotating bucket that splashes the kids! The playground area is okay. Not up to ADA standards in my opinion. There's no recycled tire chips (bad cushioning if there's a fall) and not to many handicap access points, but fun for kids that don't have handicap disabilities. There's so much acreage it's amazing! The land spreads for what looks like miles. My son brings his baseball gear and his soccer ball and can have fun for hours with all the land. Now for the few negatives... only reason I won't give it five stars. The restrooms are just bad. There's no doubt about it. No doors, no soap, no nothing. Just a pot to you know what in. Ugh, this frustrates me. I honestly do not like going to the restroom without a door, and then to have no soap to wash my hands??? Talk about spreading germs... yuck! And as much as I love the grounds, I have to say that I've seen some people not pick up after their pets. Ewww... people, come on! Kids play out there. Just pick up the poo please. And I hate to say this... but there are some people that really need a lesson or two in picking up after themselves. You're children are watching you, lead by example! Pick up your trash on the way out. There's recycling bins and garbage cans everywhere. There's no need to be so lazy.

    Lots of parking!

Play Structures: I was seriously impressed by the variety of equipment specifically designed for the 2-5 year old age range. It's hard to find parks that cater so well to that specific gap! Creative Designs: The creativity here is next level. The kids absolutely loved exploring the castle and the ship structures--it really sparked their imagination and kept them busy for a long time. Right next to the playground is a great duck pond. It was a huge hit with the kids and provided a nice, scenic break from the climbing and sliding. Even late in the day, the park felt welcoming and well-maintained. It's a perfect destination for a family outing where the kids can safely burn off some energy.

Just as with furry children, human ones also have tons of energy that must be let out. So instead of having them cooped up, I'd will myself to take them to the park even when I'm bone tired after a long week of work. William Land Park is THE best place to help kids burn off energy so they can simmer down and sleep well after they have all the fun. It's really not a bad thing, I don't want to sound like I'm begrudged to take my kids out to play, but you know how sometimes you just want to veg out at home after work and esp on weekends? Yup. But my wife's always right that it's better to just suck it up and take the littles out and let me run wild than to fight the inevitable and try to keep them occupied at home. So we make the trek and we're never disappointed, even when parking can be challenging (hint: don't go at peak times on the weekend, esp Saturday mid morning to early afternoon). With all that said, WLP is really a great place. It's huge, first of all, with a big free playground on the North West side of the park, then of course there's the Sacramento Zoo which is just the most iconic place in Land Park. Then for littles there's Fairy Tale Town which was really a hit with my kids when they were younger. And when they got older and wanted more excitement, Funderland was the place to be for several years with all the roller coaster and other amusement park rides that were good enough for their age when they still got the thrill of being up and down and thrown around on a coaster or a spinning tea cup or a rocking pirate ship. And it helps that both places are pretty affordable for a fun day out. What's impressive about Land Park though, is that there's something for everyone in this 166.5 acres regional park. I looked up some stats and it features 23 picnic areas, 2 softball fields, 1 lighted Little League field, 3 baseball fields, 2 bantam soccer fields, 1 full-sized soccer field, 1 basketball court, adventure play area (the free playground), tot play area with free wading pool (in the same area as the playground), an indoor community facility, several restrooms, several ponds, a 3.4 mile jogging trail, the Ampitheater, fee-based pony rides, and 5 garden areas including the WPA Rock Garden, 3 groves, 2 parking lots, the well loved Golf course, the Sac Zoo which my kids really loved as kids, Fairytale Town and Funderland as mentioned above. In fact, for awhile I was playing volleyball here every Saturday, it must've been a couple of years from spring through fall and even over the winter if the weather was good and the grass wasn't soggy/ground wasn't muddy from rain. I had a great time playing vball with young'uns half my age as well as those who were quite a few years older than me and yet were so fit they literally kept me on my toes. There were definitely some talented folks on the vball courts and it was all volunteer organized and free to join and play. I might have to go back to it before I'm totally out of commission. All in all, William Land Park is very unique and truly is one of Sacramento's most historic and special places. We drive by often, but don't go there enough, and really need to get out and get some fresh air and exercise on the beautiful grounds of this local gem.

By 12:50pm the rain was starting to pick up and we were almost running for cover. I had my raincoat on, but my husband only had his leather coat on. He was warm, but getting wet. He wished he had brough his umbrella. The park is very lush this time of year with a few puddles here and there on the paths. We though we were on the capital look, but realized that the loop is referring to the outer edge of the park, we started on the loop and then wove through the park, so I'm going to just review the park today and post pictures from the interior park. I really like the cactus garden. It's a little scary at times as the prickles are so large and my husband is worried if he walks by too close they will attack him. So, we kept our distance and skipped the close up shots. Today some of the cactus was in bloom which was pretty spectacular. I loved their orange color and brightness. They really popped. They do have a warning that says keep out of the Cactus garden so you are forewarned to stay away so you don't get poked. I took a picture of a cool tree. The top must have been cut at one time because now there is only a branch that goes over the path. It's fun to read all the tree tags and see what kind of trees growing in the park. They have two types of paths in the park, some that are paved and some that are possibly finely crushed rock. Both paths were a little puddly today, but not too back that you couldn't walk around the puddles. There are a few benches in the park. May of the ones under the trees are occupied by the unhoused population. The ones out in the open are usually vacant and used by local workers to enjoy some fresh air and have lunch outside. Come enjoy Capital Park. I suggest you take public transit here if you are visiting on a weekday as the parking is slim on the streets, but there are aways garages available. If you come on the weekends, there is much more parking on the streets. So, you have no excuse as to not enjoying this beautiful park.

A few of us were flying kites together, and it was such a relaxing, heartwarming experience. It's incredibly family and dog friendly, super roomy, and has so much going on. Because it's so clean and well maintained, this might just become the park I bring my kids to most often, and it is definitely a top choice for hosting future family events! It is perfect for a workout, sports activities, or just letting the kids play. I love the layout, especially how they designed the two separate grass areas where one sits at a lower elevation, while the other is level with the rest of the park. But honestly, what really blew me away was the restroom. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but I'm serious! So many park restrooms are cold, dark, dirty, and lacking privacy. This one felt downright luxurious. It is completely temperature controlled, which was especially nice since it was breezy outside! It was warm, well lit, exceptionally clean, and had absolutely no odor. It even sounded like it had a great ventilation system running. The only minor downside was the lack of toilet seat covers, but that's an easy fix. The entire park feels pretty new with a beautiful, modern design, conveniently located right behind the Sky River Casino. Highly recommend checking it out! Rate: 10/10
