I go to a lot of parks. My sons play baseball almost every weekend. So every weekend I'm traveling to park after park. This is my first time attending this one . I know that they do charge at certain ones, but this was my first time getting charged five dollars to attend my son's baseball game. Inside they had three beautiful fields. There's like a middle part where there was a snack stand and a few tables. It gets very crowded in that area. I feel like the fields are pretty connected together. I was in fear of getting hit by the ball like every second I was there. I am not joking ! The only seats there are literally behind the plate and the fields are pretty connected to each other. The snack bar menu looked really good. The bathrooms were clean and had enough toilet paper. The parking could be a little rough. I did have to park pretty far away. Overall, I just think it's a little crowded in the fields are really close together and getting hit by the ball is pretty possible here. Not my favorite sports complex.. read more

I am often here for softball because I like to go and support my husband who plays there. I enjoy how clean the facilities are. The turf fields are really nice. The restrooms are clean. There's lots of trash cans so you can clean up after yourself. There are seats so you can enjoy watching games. There's also tables and barstool like seating. The dugouts have fans and are nice. If you're into skateboarding, there's a nice skate park. I haven't been in the indoor gym but from what I've seen on the outside it looks like all the athletes are having fun. I found myself here for my nephew's baseball tournament on a Sunday afternoon. It appeared every single field and space was being used simultaneously which meant parking was a bit of a problem. It sort of gave me mall during the holidays vibes. It is a bit hard to find if you don't know where you are going. I was at "blue" field which I only found after calling my sister and asking for detailed instructions. I wish they were numbered or maybe even had a tall flag with the color. There were clean restrooms with multiple stalls near every field. There was a snack shop but I didn't go. We were not allowed to bring our own food which was annoying. All they sell are processed snacks and hot dogs and quesadillas. I feel like they should allow real food as not all of us eat that stuff. I highly recommend you bring your comforts- the team parents brought their own tents for shade and cushions for bleachers. Otherwise you will likely be in the direct sunlight. I will say the entire area was very clean and well kept including the plants and grass. I also noticed there were lots of trash cans everywhere though I wish there were blue recycling bins. My nephew's team won the championship so overall a solid experience! read more

This spot is pretty cool. When we visited they had a lot going on, but there was still plenty of parking available. There are different areas around the complex and there is something for everyone. While we were there, there was a skateboarding competition going on as well as a bunch of kids playing baseball. We watched the skateboarding for a while and it was cool that they had a whole sound system out as well as some vendors. I could see this being a regular spot for families with kids playing sports and we even spotted a street hockey area which is always cool to see. read more

The skate park is reasonable as a street park. There isn't anything deep enough to call a bowl. There are a few things to ride and there is plenty of room, so people shouldn't collide. Parking is close. read more

This is a nice big skate park. My son enjoys it quite a bit. This park does not have bowls, it is a plaza/street park with ramps, ledges, quarter pipes, stairs, and rails. Plenty of room! Quite a crowd of skaters can skate here together. The park appears to be relatively new and clean as well. Somehow, not too many knuckleheads are here? Bonus! It has a decent sized parking lot, but unfortunately, it's often full of cars due to the baseball fields. There's parking across the street, on the street, etc.. if you cruise around a bit. Bathrooms are not too close. You have to go across the street or in the baseball area and receive permission from the pee Nazis at the gate. All things considered, this is a great place to grab a quick skate session or chill out as a parent and watch the kids shred it up! read more

An update not even a week later. I played last Monday and they attempted a fix on one of the fields. The had a fairly large square patched into the pitching area. It's now a complete hazard. There is a huge seem three feet in front of where you pitch from. The ball already comes back fast enough that many are now wearing protective gear.Now with this repair there is one more way to get smacked by a softball that's not so soft. Who plays softball on turf? Apparently the citizens of Rancho Cordova, CA! I've never, in my short stint as a softball player, seen a field made of turf. Yes, soccer, softball, NO! Well, after the initial shock wore off, it just becomes another game of co-ed softball. This lovely complex had been upgraded since my days of playing soccer out here. Unfortunately at night the snack bar is not open. It took me about three trips to realize there were very nice turf soccer fields across the street. However, there is a huge play ground and skate park on the side by the softball fields. They have lights and a score board, they're fancy here. Which I can't really say for all the athletes out here. Don't be fooled with this over the top facility, we are still in Rancho - some teams are a little rough around the edges and some are just your average 30-ish-year olds looking for some good 'ol co-ed, beer drinkin' softball! All in all, a good run facility, with nice amenities for families and sports go-ers. Softball and turf just don't go together...it's not natural... read more

This is a great outdoor complex that is nice and open! There is a field and also benches with plenty of trees and shade. Throughout the week there are games held here, it is a public area and great to bring the whole family for kickball or just letting the kids run around. It is also pretty big so it's nice to walk around the outside perimeter and get some exercise. read more

So much to say about this wonderful wonderful part. My history started here 20 years ago on the old softball fields, the new fields are clearly much much improved. I walk here often on my lunch time or breaks, running into a mini old friends along the way. I love finding the baseballs that I've gone over the fence, I enjoy even more throwing them back over onto the field, or to players who are out for practice. The trees the grounds, well-kept. The staff with the park district is impeccable and very accommodating. I highly recommend visiting this park for the full experience. If I could give less than 1-star I would. This is the email I sent to multiple people in their organization. --------------- Hello, Our son plays for the U10 team from ----------- and we drove a considerable distance to be part of a tournament this weekend. Overall, I would say we were very unhappy with the experience my family had at your Mather Field complex in Rancho Cordova. In no particular order, this is what did not work for us... There is not enough seating for the people watching the game. Also the stands themselves are too small - they seem to have been designed with children not adults in mind. Adults sitting behind each other would have their knees crammed right in the back of the person. It seems like you tried to achieve a "maximum seating" with a minimum footprint. Not successful. It was not only over 100 degrees (something you obviously have no control over!) but the 3-sided concrete walls (which you do have control over) that surround the stands ABSORBS and RADIATES back the 100 + degree heat directly on the people sitting in the stands! Also the concrete walls actually BLOCK the possibility of allowing any wind to blow through and cool down the viewers sitting in the stands. Poor design. It made a hot day absolutely unbearable to sit through. What about the concession stands? In 100+ degree heat there was NO ICE to sell at the concession stands. None. And when I asked if I could bring ice into the park, the man actually said to me "What do you want ice for?" Really? How about because it is 100 degrees outside and you are not providing any. In 100 degree heat there is actually a health concern if it is not easy for people to keep themselves cool. It feels negligent. The few volunteers (I assume they are not being paid) were overworked and over hot (especially the one poor lady at the front gate who I saw working alone all day Sat, Sun, Mon). It felt like you needed 2-3 more people to attend to everyone. Then there is the issue of general space to move around at the ballpark. Once you are inside there is NO WHERE to go other than sitting in the stands or standing by concession. What about the families with little children? What are they supposed to do? Yes, there is the playground outside - but there seemed to be little to no thought of how families are supposed to manage while staying inside the ballpark. It felt thoughtless and not family friendly. Safety concerns. I've been in and around baseball for 40 years so I know very well about the reality of keeping an eye on the game and on foul balls. However - your fields are so CLOSE together that baseballs are literally flying over nets and heading towards people with their backs turned before anyone has a chance to yell for people to watch out. Dangerous and negligent design. Then the toilets. You actually put in stainless steel toilets - without lids or seats - for the men's AND the women's? It looked like something you would see in the military. It seems that the only thought you had was of maintenance costs and not what the experience is going to be like for the attendees of your games. It felt cheap and disrespectful. If you are interested in hearing about the end-user's experience then, rationally and honestly, I would give your facility a D. It was really that bad compared to a few other recreational sites similar to yours in Redding, CA and Medford, Oregon. Assuming all teams paid their full registration fee and all attendees paid admission for all days (as we did) plus concession I figure your facility brought in somewhere between $10,000 to $15,000 for the weekend. I would think you would make more of effort to ensure your "guests" had a better experience. I plan to forward this complaint to other people in the organization to make sure that my opinion is heard. read more

I am very disappointed with this facility! We've had countless tournaments at this facility, yet as of late their policy regarding bringing in water is not working for families. During championship games at 6 pm, the concession stand staff members have been closing their doors before the 6 pm game begins. That means it's 100 degrees outside, we can't purchase ice, water, or other cold beverages, and the facility DOES NOT have a public water faucet available. While pleading with concession staff to remain open at the start of and during the late games, we were met with extremely negative comments and very poor customer service! They told us that they have to close their doors at 6 pm, and could care less that not even a water faucet is available to the public. I recommend that you bring your own cold beverages if you ever play at this facility. Just go to your cooler in your vehicle and bring in your beverages during late games. Can't leave it up to Mather Sports Complex concession staff to do their job and responsibility to provide beverages for their customers. After all, they already have our monies in tournament and gate fees. Go figure... read more

I LIVE in Rancho Cordova, and I never knew this was here! This is a really nice baseball complex consisting of 3 baseball fields (artificial turf) joined at home plate with a snack bar, a shaded picnic area, and restrooms. There are concrete bleachers and REAL dugouts. There's also a box seat area just behind home plate of each field. This makes for nice viewing. Warning... There is NO shade in the seating area, so bring an umbrella. Also, there's no room for pop-ups or sports chairs. Watch out for foul balls! Shade the spectator area, and you'll get 5 stars. My husband had an appointment at the VA hospital across the street, so my daughter and I explored the parks in the Mather area. This complex is really nice! People in this area are lucky to have such a well groomed sports complex with so many things to do. I was hesitant to go here because I thought it was just a sports only area, but it has a playground right next to the parking lot and the skatepark. There's picnic table inside the playground area so parents have a place to sit and watch their kids. This playground is interesting because it has a rope course in addition to traditional play equipment like the slide, towers, and bridges. I like that they are offering kids this kind of equipment outside of the all plastic realm. I'll definitely come back in the spring or summer with my daughter so we can see kids being adventurous on those rope towers. read more

Very nice turf facility which my sons travel ball team visits regularly. There is seating right behind the plate, with stools on the opposite side for those who want to keep score or have somewhere to eat, as well as bleachers on the first and third baseline for each team. The snack bar has changed hands and the food is now much more expensive than it used to be. The 3 for $5 street tacos are really good, otherwise I suggest smuggling in your own food and drink. They took down the shading recently, so its a good idea to bring an easy up for shade over the seating areas. There is a playground and skate park right outside of the fields, so if you have little ones bring the scooter along. read more

Daughter had a soccer tournament here this weekend. This sports complex is laid out very nice and one of the nicest complexes I have been to. The fields host both soccer and softball tournaments. Big bonus is they have a a great snack with hot coffee for those cold mornings. read more

They currently still do paper files, which may add to why their fees are super cheap so don't expect their gym to be like 24 hour Fitness status. Great complex after the renovations. Has accommodations for all sports (including skate boarding). The softball fields are top notch with astro-turf on the entire playing surfaces. Even if it rains earlier in the day, there's a good chance of playing since it drains so fast unlike grass fields. Nice facilities, Cordova Parks & Rec offers some really fun and.unique programs here. The programs are inexpensive for those on a budget. The soccer & Baseball fields are lit at night, their skate park in cool by my standards(in my day we didn't have skate parks to go to. Parking on certain nights is at a premium when all the sports fields are being used. There is parking available at the office complex next door, that's a better option that driving in circles to find a spot closer. Overall A+ I love this place. read more

Our team has been playing at Mather for 2 years now. Besides the fact this my favorite team I've played on over the years this has become our favorite complex to play ball. It is very clean, well maintained and just FUN. The blues are consistent, fair and a hoot. The folks running the leagues are nice, courteous, and very helpful.....particularly....Jesse....Teddy....Jason and Brian. The fields are a fun new experience if you've never played on turf. The Mather Sports Complex is a great use of open land in the evenings and weekends in a city that is most active during the day and during the week with businesses. It is centrally located in the Mather (Rancho Cordova) area just off Highway 50. There is a wide variety of activities done here. "Kids" of all ages from 4-104 having fun and being active. There are superior soccer fields, (and 3 turf softball fields) with all weather turf, that serve as the San Juan Soccer Club's home base and is used by city leagues as well. (If club teams are there expect crowds.) They are high quality and rarely is a game rained out. Add to that the many other clubs, park and rec participants, local residents, visitors and friends taking advantage of everything from baseball, softball, soccer, boot camp, skate park skateboarding, having picnics, playing, working out, eating, the list goes on. If you are parking during peak times it is a game of circle and snag but most times you can get one in a reasonable time. If you are going to soccer look at surrounding office parks for additional parking as they are often closed by the time games or tournaments are scheduled. The skate park is busy with the next Tony Hawks. The baseball/softball complex is an enclosed spectator and player paradise with restrooms, snack bar, quality bleachers, tables, dugouts and more. The only issue is sometimes it could use additional cleaning. Bird poop and people trash needs some attention sometimes but given how well used and centrally located it is expected. Try out an activity here you'll be glad you went. read more

This review is less about the facilities themselves, and more about the staff. My son was out at the SkatePark earlier this week and lost his wallet. After a lot of hemming and hawing, he refused to believe that anyone would have turned the wallet in, so I ended up calling the Sports Center myself to see if the wallet had been turned in. I ended up speaking to the Recreation Director Brian, and lo and behold, someone had found the wallet and turned into the office with everything intact. Brian was super sweet, went through the steps with me to verify that it was indeed my son's wallet before confirming, and was overall very kind and professional. It's nice to know that there are still good people out there who will turn in a strangers wallet and staff that will hold onto it and keep it safe. Brian was super helpful, and it only took a few minutes to locate the item when he checked the lost and found, which speaks to the organization of the place. Highly recommended! read more

You got to be kidding. It is 100 degrees out here and you won't SELL a cup of ice. Even after offering to pay for a soda minus the soda. I also don't want your styrofoam cup. Shame on you... Your food and drinks are already so over-priced but that's the case at every baseball tournament. You need to figure this out and take a lesson in customer service. read more
