Nice city park with a 9 hole disc golf course.  We went on a weekday morning.  It was pretty quiet, but after we started playing the course, there were other people who came to do the same thing.  We have never played disc golf before and this was a perfect course to start out with because the distances to each basket were not super long.  The park seems pretty well maintained.  There are restrooms available and parking was plentiful. read more

We visited this park while driving through the area. This park is nice and has some great features that you won't find at other parks. There are bathrooms, but I don't know that I would use them as there are quite a few homeless people that hang around in this park. read more

I love this park. I grew up right around the corner on Engle and Garfield.... I have awesome memories of playing at Carmichael park. From little league baseball, birthday parties, Small and large gated Dog parks, multiple playgrounds, basketball courts, frisbee Golf, Tennis Racket ball Courts and swimming in the ever missed public pool. Carmichael park recently started having an open air market on sat-sun. You can find gourmet Brick oven pizza on wheels, fruits, vegetables, and canned goods. Also a wide verity of locals that bring a taste of there cultures to the vendor circle. Carmichael parks and recreation also hold many events that coincide with the holidays. Santa clause with gift donations. The Easter Bunny and egg hunts. Saint Patric's day parade. Feed the need programs of thanks giving. Any and all other activities don't hesitate to call Carmichael parks and Rec, or simple pick up a free copy of the Carmichael Chronicle newspaper and events calendar from the majority of Carmichael's local business. I love Carmichael Park because once a year it hosts one of my favorite events... The Carmichael Cactus and Succulent Society Plant Show and Sale! It is held in the clubhouse, with half the space dedicated to the plant show and half to the plant sale. In May of every year, the CC&SS Members get together to showcase their best plants on display for everyone to marvel at. Each plant is artfully displayed, some you will never see again they are so rare. Definitely worth the trip! But if that wasn't enough, there is also a cactus and succulent sale where club members have tons and tons of plants for sale. From $1 to $100, from spiky to soft, there is something for everyone. My favorite vendor is "Norman" who has the largest cactus and succulent garden in Northern California... In his backyard! He brings large cuttings of his plants to every sale. These are large plants that can be immediately planted in the ground, or kept in one of the many beautiful pots they are sold in. These plants would normally go for $25-100 in the store, but his exceptional plants are for sale for only $10-35. Amazing! The CC&SS show for 2014 has already happened on May 17th and 18th, so make sure to mark your calendars for next year! All money raised goes right back into the club. read more

Carter & Buster say Woof! We love going to Carmichael Dog Park!!! The park is clean, big and very, very rarely are there problems with aggressive dogs. When it does come up the community of pet people take care of it quickly and diplomatically. There are several disposal stations for pet waste and bags and scoops are provided. Tennis balls are in good supply and there are kiddie pools. Plenty of seating sun or shade available...This is one great off leash park for socializing, meeting nice dogs and their people! Best spot for any Sunday morning, well, it is better when it is sunny and warm, I guess! They have Farmers Market every weekend and we love taking a walk through different stands and talk to the owner about their passion and their products. This is a very personal touch as I always like to know where my stuff comes from, let it be sweets, veggies, meats, coffee or even a piece of art. This review is for the Dog park at Carmichael Park as well as the park itself. My family and I (including my fur child) really enjoy coming here. The park is very clean and parking is never an issue. The Tennis courts are new and very well kept, a big plus for me is that they stay pretty slow so it's easy to find a court. They have a Food Truck Mania which is the first Sunday of the month, I believe, and its loads of fun. They will line up anywhere from 10-20 different food trucks and the food is delicious! Plus you can bring your dog with you can walk it off after you gorge! :) They also have a farmers market which is awesome! The park also has disk golf which I have not had the opportunity to partake in but it looks like a lot of fun! There are always people playing so it must be fun! I love the dog park. It is offish and there are designated areas for small and large dogs which it really cool. People certainly bring the small dogs into the larger section all the time. I love because my large dog loves playing with small dogs! They had some small kiddy pools in the summer time which was really cool... and messy. They got rid of them due to the drought and I'm pretty happy about it, especially because of all the mud it caused. There are fresh water sources inside the park as well and they usually have bowls there. Overall this park is pretty cool! read more

This is the only park I know of around that has a small dog side so the pittbulls wont maul my yorkie. Everytime I bring my dog she has a blast. There's almost always some shady people roaming around but never seen any in the actual dog park. Great place to let the kids go tire themselves out in the playground while the dog is being tuckered out at the same time. read more

I really enjoy this park, especially on Sundays when the Farmers Market is on. But this park is much more than Sunday Farmers Market. They have tennis courts, basketball hoops, disc golf (which I thought was frisby, but oh contraire mon frere!). They have several baseball diamonds, a lovely community center with clean, flushing toilets, a great kids play ground area and I have seen many groups do monthly meetings (dog training) and special events (weddings, police community outreach where one police dog lunged after my girl!!) Sometimes it's not how a park "looks" that gets the 5 stars. It's the people and the community that MAKE it that way. I completely disagree with the last reviewer regarding this park. A Few Things: It has the prettiest frontage sign in Sacramento. Who has a mural like that? The tennis courts are ALWAYS packed. The Larp crowd shows up on Sundays, and that's entertaining. The grounds are well kept, trash is picked up and the bathrooms (yes, they have them) are decent. The playground is fun for kids too. Concerts in the park/auditorium are top notch. The Dog Park: My dog is a daily visitor. The Carmichael Dog Park Society just finished cleaning up the grounds and re-vamping it. This is on their own dime. They removed the bark in the middle of the big dog portion of the park and put it near the trees. The placed fresh sand in certain spots around the park. That is paid for by the members, no one else. The park is currently in the running (1 out of 10) in the entire USA to win $500,000 to re-do that park. Go to www.beneful.com to vote. The little dog compound just received a canopy, but they need a lot more. People pick up the doggie poop and it is a very safe place for the dog to go. The people are friendly as well. Excellent dog park and expansive grounds with many mature trees for optimal shade in summer. Catch a pick up game of basketball or host a kids outdoor birthday party! Sundays there is a large group of masked warriors that play fight on one lawn. Mild crowd of adults - they seem harmless. Just by principle, unless I get mugged or murdered, I will probably not give any public park less than 4 stars. So...I give this park 4 stars. It's a good park. A medium sized playground that could be spaced out a little better. Next is the dog park which I have never taken our dogs there but it is BIG and looks like there is a lot of "users" there. There are 6-8 tennis courts that are lit on a timer. The courts are getting worn and should be resurfaced within the next 2-3 years. That being said, nice courts with lights is hard to complain. There are softball courts and just big grassy areas to run around. There is a homeless population around here. Never been bothered by them but they are around. read more

Awesome park. Multiple playgrounds with steep slides. There's a stage area where I play the role of a dancing fool ( it's a love story ). Couple of baseball fields are fine and dandy my son loves to play in the infield. There's a disc golf course and lots of tennis courts. Also a canine playtime area. read more

One of the many reasons I love living in Carmichael is because of Carmichaels recreation and park district. Lots of parks for families to enjoy that are usually very well maintained. I especially like the classes offered by the district held at local parks, they provide opportunities to learn skills affordably or stay in shape. Lots of activities for everyone for the whole family. Also a monthly food truck event held at Carmichael park is fun for the whole family! various food trucks serving top of line food from every country of the world. Love coming here, that's all there is to it. We are not allowed dogs, so we love going to the dog portion of the park and seeing them. Most people are pretty friendly and let me and my little sisters pet and play. I was raised in a dog family, so not being able to own one sucks, so I appreciate parks like these and the nice people who are willing to share their four-legged family members. The park itself is pretty cool, too. A lot of jungle gym and slides, and the park is always clean. The only caveat is that of all the things this park has, slides, baseball field, basketall court, dog park, etc, but the one things they are missing....swings. If it had swings, I might have even given a 5 star rating. The farmers market they have is fun, and one day I got lucky to see a mini dog show. I really like Carmichael Park. They have a great dog park, which is convenient for me since it's so close to my house and I don't have a backyard for my pooches to run free. Tennis courts that are mostly available, even at peak times like 6pm and weekend mornings. Then of course there is the Farmer's Market on Sundays! Love it, we like to walk over and peek at the goods but we don't feel obligated to buy if we don't really need anything since it's so close and free, unlike Denios... There's also a disc golf course, if you're into that sorta thing. I've been told it's not the best course but people are always playing there. I tend to stay on the Fair Oaks side of the park, once you start getting deeper there are often wierdos and hillbillies. OMG... just so you know, I went to the dog park once on a weekend just to get my doggies some exercise and there was this crazy lady there with all her stuff sitting at the table PLUCKING. HER. CHIN. & MUSTACHE. HAIR!!!! I couldn't take it, I was only there for like 20 minutes before I got my dogs the heck out of there. But for the most part it's a nice little park to go to. read more

Carmichael Park is a nice regional park off Fair Oaks Blvd. It has all the items you would expect of a suburban large park. It is showing its age similar to most parks in the greater Sacramento region, but this park does play host to Food Truck Mania on Thursday nights. Over a dozen food trucks set up a chuck wagon to sell you gourmet burgers, deep fried goodness, and all the sweets you want. Several other vendors are operating during the event. Parking seems to be a big issue, but this is probably due to the popularity of the event. There is an off-leash dog park and several tennis courts. Restrooms seem in a similar condition to most other parks, so plug your nose and do your business. Overall a nice park, but nothing to drive across town for. read more

Went to the food truck event at Carmichael park 7/17/13. Great event. Lots of food trucks. Music. It wasn't too hot and the trees provide a lot of shade. It is worthy of future consideration. Everyone - young toddlers to seniors - enjoyed themselves. Although I have eaten at a food truck in the past, this was my first time at a food truck event. The large dog park is ok. The small dog park is dirt and not great. Beware of anyone who solicits money for park improvements and has for years. I have asked for statements of collected funds and all they offers is "minutes" from meetings. DO NOT give money to anyone. Tennis lessons through Carmichael Park and Rec was horrible. The "USTA" instructor was never there for my kids instructions. There was an old guy there that did not teach but just played games. We went there with the idea of actually having my kids taught how to swing the racket. There park and rec ad for playing is false advertising. Coach Jessie informed us that he has another job. He was there for 2 lessons out of 8. Horrible. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!! read more

Mostly older people though... had a good time until some lady with her unaltered humpsalot Doberman came along and ruined a good time for a lot of other dogs... I wish I could give Carmichael Park 5 stars but it really isn't "as good as it gets" however I do love it and it will always be my favorite neighborhood park. I've lived in many different parts of Carmichael in my lifetime and I have always been able to walk or ride my bike to the park whenever the mood struck. I especially have fond memories of walking there once a week during my 2nd pregnancy to meet with a playgroup in the awesome toddler park. The toddler park is kind of a secret (so feel special that I'm telling you about it Yelpers). It is enclosed in a fence and next to a building so many people assume that it is a private playground, but it's just a special set up so parents can relax without worrying about their 2 year old wandering off. If you plan on checking it out please note that if you have older kids they either need to be able to play carefully or they should head over to the 2 big kid play structures on the other side of the park. Also, no pets are allowed (there's a dog park in the park anyway), I actually feel the need to stress this because I had to ask a gentleman to leave after he brought his boxer into the toddler area and my child kept running up to the dog's face making me very nervous, the rules are posted so I felt comfortable enforcing them. The softball/baseball fields are old but also special to me because I grew up playing on them, the dugouts are a bit messy and the judges(?) boxes are falling apart :( but the fields themselves are in good condition. The park is overall very well taken care of and manicured. I've never actually been inside the dog park but it looks great and like it is a lot of fun for dogs and their owners, it's always fun to sit and watch what's going on in there for a couple minutes. There's an outdoor mini-ish amphitheater which is great for shows of all kinds, my dance school has performed there a few times & we have a show coming up there as well! The Celtic Fall Festival is brand new but hopefully it goes well and we can continue it. I love that Carmichael Park has so many festivals and going-ons because they're free and it's just a great atmosphere. I especially love the Christmas Tree Lighting! I wish they would do something with the pool, fix and re-open it or flatten it and add some more basketball courts, anything besides leaving it there looking desolate and making me miss the summer days that I used to swim there. Overall, I love this park, it's gorgeous with lots of big trees and countless picnic areas and tons of options for everyone! read more

We took my friend's nieces here to play and have a picnic. They were able to amuse themselves for at least 30-45 minutes with lunch in between. Not bad for a 3 and a 5 year old, we amused the 1 year old while the older kids played. A decent variety of slides, but a smallish play structure overall. A nice big sand elevated sandbox, but there was no sand so we put some dead leaves in it instead. read more

Another great dog park that I've been too with my doggie. I can tell sometimes she misses this park and I am thinking about take her back soon. We stopped there today for play with our 4 year old granddaughter. The photos on the website looked like some interesting play structures. WRONG! Might be good for 11 year old but not for younger children. There was a slide that was blocked with wood board because of 2 foot break in the surface. Looks like it has been that way for months at least but not repaired or removed. The access to the slides required climbing up high ladders or similar structures not a set of stairs. Too scary for a small child. She would have been fine climbing stairs to get too them but clearly not the straight up 8 foot ladder provided. Worst yet there were NO SWINGS. We left to find a cleaner, better maintained and equipped with some things for younger children also. Huge disappointment. Another reviewer put on photo of toddler play area, which looks pretty nice. We looked for such a structure and found NOTHING for small children. We also asked some employees working on some concrete project near the play equipment. They did not know of any swings or small child play structure in the Carmichael Park. Makes me wonder if the park in that photo is in the Carmichael district but not the park located next to the district office, which is where we were. read more

the sunny months, because today it was muckie and kinda squishy. I've been told during tournaments they set up an 18 hole course but it's only 9 hole (close together 275-300ft. Max) course for the most part. Having said that the people we ran into playing there were amazing and the "aceholes" as they call them selves (the group taking care of the over all up keep of the course) have a pretty riotous gaming or tournament system from the sound of things ,with planned games going almost everyday of the week including NIGHT GAMES on Wednesdays. Plus everyday there's a guy selling BRAND NEW DISCS DIRT CHEAP! We got 4 discs for $25. So over all... I say wait till its sunny and go or just go for the discs because at very least it's better then Final 9 prices read more
