Very beautiful out door area with walking trails near by. Very small parking lot and a quick turn off of the busy highway. My husband happened to notice the sign driving by one day. He kept saying he wanted to stop by. We visited in October cooler weather and in the morning. A few people were also enjoying the area. I posted a few pictures on Facebook another person said go back in March when more flowers are in bloom. We hope we can go back then or at least in the spring time. read more

A little disappointing as I had read reviews about tulips in bloom around this time of year and arrived to find none. Very easy to miss the entrance due to the fast-moving traffic on the main road. The gravel parking lot is a bit small, so it fills up fast. If full, the next best thing would be probably to circle around to the back where the Carmichael Community Garden is. It has a gravel lot, with a paved walkway connecting to the botanical garden. If you can, go on a weekday! I went on Sunday afternoon, and there were 3-4 small families and a large group doing photoshoots. Plenty of benches throughout and a huge grassy area perfect for picnics. Though I didn't see much, it would be best to keep an eye out for dog poop. It's a nice place to check out if you're already in the area. Depending on what you're hoping to see, it may not be worth the trek. Of all the flowers, roses make up the majority. Unless it's through your camera, you won't be able to see a small portion of flowers and bushes up close due to how the garden is arranged. read more

A little underwhelming. Would be a great place for pictures, but not so much to travel to for botanical garden. Small flower garden in the front with a paved trail that dead ends after about 1/2 mile. I would say you could spend about 30-45 minutes here. I imagine it would be nice to visit if you lived close, but there are definitely better gardens in Sacramento and surrounding area. The flower portion of this park is next to a very busy street, so there's lot of noise from the cars. Almost missed the entrance driving by. Glad I went, but don't think I'd be back. read more

I was excited to visit this spot after seeing all the beautiful flower photos online--but I think we went a little too early in the season (March 16), because not everything was in bloom yet. Still, it was a peaceful and relaxing walk, and we made the most of it! One tip: try not to go the day after it rains. It was a little muddy in certain areas, so I'd give it a few dry days before heading out, especially if you're not wearing shoes you want to get dirty. We saw a few squirrels (which I was really hoping for!). They were pretty cautious, but once we tossed some food from a distance, a couple of them came closer to eat. Super cute and fun to watch! I also managed to get some nice photos of the flowers that were blooming, like the Chinese lanterns. There are benches where you can sit and enjoy the calm vibes, and overall the place was very clean--no trash around, and everything felt well cared for. My boyfriend and I went on a Sunday just to get out of the house, and it was a chill little outing. There were a few other people walking around, some quiet kids, and a couple of dogs on the main path. If you follow the trail down a bit, you'll come across what looks like a fenced-in community garden area. I'm guessing people rent plots there, but we just walked by to peek in. It didn't look super active, but still interesting. I think I may have seen a porta-potty down in that area, but I didn't notice any restrooms in the main botanical section--so just something to keep in mind if you're planning a visit. I also found out the whole park is maintained by volunteers, which is pretty cool. It gives it more of a community feel, and you can tell people care about the space. It's not a huge park--the flower loop is fairly small, and the overall area is more suited for a short stroll than a long hike--but it's peaceful, pretty, and worth a visit. I'd definitely go again, but later in the season when more is in bloom... and definitely not right after it rains! read more

My rating is relative to the botanical gardens that I have been to that are amazing. This is a delightful area to see in the area. However, it's not a large space to explore & not packed with a huge variety of flora. A lot of plants aren't labeled to know what they are. Your timing has to be right to see flowers like tulips and roses in bloom. Houses are visible around the periphery. However, it can still be a nice stroll, a peaceful place to sit on a bench, a great spot for photography, & a cute picnic spot. This is a cute, free spot to take a short walk through nature, although I feel that the term "botanical gardens" is a bit misleading. It's really just a pretty park. When you first walk in, there is a very short walkway around some flower gardens, and then another short walk (maybe about a quarter mile) back to an old olive grove. Off to one side of the main walkway, there is a pretty old wooden building with stained glass windows, which can be reserved for special functions, but is otherwise off-limits. It is easy to walk around the entire premises in about fifteen minutes or less. Since I just found this place a few months ago, I haven't seen the tulips (or many of the other flowers) in bloom yet, but have enjoyed the toyon and fuchsia. The olive grove is neat, but small (not nearly as big as the one off of the Johnny Cash Trail in Folsom). As I write this, there are lots of black and purple olives littering the ground. My friend asked me last week: "What are those?" "Olives." "Really? Can I eat them?" "I don't know... I think you have to brine them before you can eat them." Overall, this is definitely more of a park than a botanical garden, but it's a pretty place to walk around. read more

Wow, the tulips are STUNNING! I visited in mid March and the tulip garden was in full bloom. There's a little pathway to walk around the garden, which is pretty small, I'd say about a 10 minute walk around total. There are a few benches to take a seat and enjoy the flowers. You can also walk behind the garden up into a grass field for a more extensive walk. Not many flowers to view up there, though. There's a house/community building there that was closed down. I wonder if you can rent it to use for community events. Not sure, though. read more

Coming here during the summer was a risk because most of the flowers have already bloomed and withered. However, there were some flowers still thriving and I loved it! When making your way over here, drive a bit slower as your approach the parking lot because the entrance will suddenly appear. There's only one way to enter and it's the same exit so if you miss it, you'll need to go around and attempt again. The layout of the area is very clever and once there are more blooms, there will be lots of areas for photo ops! read more

I simply cannot say how beautiful it was, even in this fall/winter time of year. There were several families out & even a cute holiday photo shoot being done. The olive trees that line the extra wide walking path are brilliant-that combined with the oak trees-oh and all of the Japanese Maples, in the park as well. When spring comes - the flowers are going too be off the charts, beautiful. Parking can be and is noted on their webpage as contentious. Lot was closed, so had to park in the neighborhood, and the quick walk not bad. All in all a great get away in the middle of the day! read more

Nice park along a busy road so it's not terribly relaxing. It would be better if everyone read and followed the posted signs regarding dogs being on leashes. There are many signs at the entrances, plus there were other people walking dogs on leashes. I would never let my dog off leash in a natural area. It's not safe for the wildlife or the dog. Why bother having dedicated dog parks if you're going to let your dog off-leash wherever you want? read more

I've been here when the tulips, lillies and rose bushes and everything was in bloom, but today was pretty sad. Most of the flowers that i enjoyed were dead. We need more rain. I love calla lillies and surprisingly they used to have these really tall white calla lillies that I've seen in SF. So gorg! I typically take my niece here for a picnic brunch and a photo session. The place is still nice for a short stroll, but don't come with high expectations. The creek is no more. Instead it's dry and you see people's trash (water bottles, plastic bags, etc). Best time: come in the morning. Less photographers and when the lighting is right and dewy. Great for a picnic date. I would say the flowers are great, but i can't.. not as of today. read more

This review is written in July of 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Pro: Free entry and free parking; uncrowded and quiet; well-maintained grounds. Con: Unable to reach anyone by phone for information; small grounds; water features were dry. Review: The parking lot isn't large, but it's large enough for the amount of people. Be careful when entering and leaving the parking area because the traffic is very fast moving. Near the parking lot is a small but well-kept botanical garden. There's a large lawn area, which is very well kept and green. There is only one path, but it leads through an orchard of olive trees, which weren't in season at the time of our summer visit. The path dead ends in a parking lot adjacent to a local community garden. The community garden is open to walk through if a gardener is present and the gate is unlocked. What drew us here where the pictures of the lush waterscapes, so we were disappointed, though not upset, that there was no water. Given the summer timing, it was an overall positive experience. read more

It's August right now and there's flowers here and there, but not very lively. The garden is fairly small, but offers some pretty sceneries. I saw empty bottles laying around at almost every bench spot, so I would say, please pick up after yourself and don't litter. They have trash cans there for a reason. There's currently remodeling going on, so there's a big dirt area. Will be coming back in the spring for my wedding photo shoot. UPDATE: Came back in May for my wedding shoot. The flowers were in bloom, although, there was no more tulips as they bloomed in February. Some grass areas weren't green anymore, but our photos came our beautiful with the sceneries nonetheless. read more

Back in the early 90's I worked for a psychopathic property manager who's offices were near the Jensen Botanical Gardens. During my lunch hour I would take my sad little sandwich to this park in an attempt to re-new my soul and faith in humankind. This little jewel of a park is the perfect place to breathe deeply and find some peace. Japanese anemones, hydrangeas, roses, rhododendrons, and other native plants grow happily in the shade of mature trees. Adding to the picturesque scene a little brook runs through the park. read more

The only reason Jensen Botanical Gardens didn't get a 5 star review is because it is a very small area. That being said, it's a very well maintained garden and has a few short strolls (nothing close to a hike though) and some benches to sit down and take it all in on. I have been to bigger Botanical Gardens (Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens in Hawai'i for example) and I have also been to smaller ones which of course I forgot the names of, because well....they don't really have much to remember them by. - Sorry tangents. Anyways if you're in Sacramento and find yourself in the quaint Carmichael area please stop by this park and just see for yourself how beautiful this area is.
