Went into this establishment and within 15 minutes purchased a mattress from Mike who was straight to the point. I am a straight to the point person and I appreciated how straight to the point Mike was in selling me a mattress. Not like Mattress Firm that wanted to sell me a mattress for 3k with diamonds in it , Mike sold me a mattress and delivered it on the same day for a small fraction of what Mattress Firm would have come out too. Who needs diamonds in their mattresses? LOL. Check out Mike's shop if you need a mattress! read more

Wonderful experience. Mike is an incredible guy and helped me pick the mattress I want within 10 minutes for super cheap and helped me carry it to my truck. Amazing quality as well!!! read more

Great mattress shopping experience. Mike is the perfect balance of "leave you alone to shop" with "offer helpful information". Fair prices and Mike personally delivered our mattress and helped us move the old one out. read more

Great prices and friendly service! I found the perfect full-sized box spring. Thank you!!

Great experience at Discount Mattress! Mike was super helpful and communicative, making sure I found the perfect mattress. The process was smooth, stress-free, and I highly recommend this place! read more

Mike is a great all around guy. My girlfriend and I went in looking for a mattress for her new apartment and we were greeted with hospitality. Fair prices, he's very transparent about everything, not pushy or follows you around the store like some places. He answered all our questions and helps us with delivery as well!! 10/10 would recommend you spend your money here if you are in need of a new mattress. read more

Went to look for a new matress to replace my old college bed. The process was simple and easy, we did look around for a bit on our own. If you prefer looking by yourself without having someone getting you ready to purchase, would highly recommend then. Still gives help when needed. If you don't have anyone to get you the bed delivered, I would go and pay the delivery fee. Good guy and good vibes. read more

Very nice and comparable pricing! My husband and I have gone to Mike for our last 3 mattresses (master bedroom, guest rooms). He gives excellent customer service and makes deliveries himself! Would highly recommend! read more

Back issues have always ailed me but after purchasing a brand new stuffed with Texas cotton comfortable mattress I no longer have anything that ails me. I walked in and stopped in on a whim to see about purchasing a brand new queen mattress. I was stoked to walk in to a huge space with plenty of mattresses to look at and consider. I was greeted so kindly by Mike with a brief statement from him letting me know that he could help me out if I see anything I liked. No pressure at all as I went back and forth between a few choices for mattresses from him or anyone else for that matter while I browsed and debated. I ended up using Mike's delivery team and got a mattress and box spring at my apartment in South Austin before the day was done at 5pm. I would recommend this place if you want a great quality mattress from an honest West Texas owner. Thank you, Mike! read more

I went here because of all the great reviews, but my experience was quite different. I was trying out a bunch of mattresses, trying to make up my mind which to buy, when one of the two guys in the store (the owner?) opened the back door, then said, "There's another homeless guy out there sleeping in the heat! Why doesn't the idiot find another shadier place to sleep?!" Then proceeded to make jokes and laugh at the homeless man, and make quite a few derisive comments about him. I asked if the man was okay, or did he need some medical help from the heat, hoping if I showed concern for the man, the store owner would listen to his buddy who had been trying to get him to knock it off. The guy just doubled down, saying something like, "No, he doesn't need help. What he needs is a job!" Then proceeded to rant about how he pays eight thousand dollars rent and doesn't need to run thirty dirty homeless people off a day because "they shit back there even!" Yeah, great professionalism there, dude, doing that in front of your customer. He just kept going on and on and on, ranting about "lazy homeless bums", so I walked out, saying, "I don't do business with heartless people." I went to Factory Mattress just around the corner and got a much better mattress for about the same price as a not-as-good one at the discount store, and without the disgusting display. And to the mattress guy himself: In case you thought I was just window shopping, I posted a photo of my receipt showing what I spent thirty minutes after leaving your store. And I'll be going back to Factory Mattress next month to spend even more for a full size bed that time, instead of a twin. I also have two vacation rentals that need new mattresses, so Factory Mattress will be getting even more money from me next year. read more

Discount Mattress - Mattresses Near Me - Austin, Texas

Discount Mattress on Slaughter Rd is excellent! No pressure, great prices. Very helpful staff, too. Easy parking. read more

I moved to Austin and needed a new bed. I found out about Discount Mattress on Yelp and decided to give them a call. I spoke with Mike, the owner, who was very helpful and nice. I also asked him for recommendations on where to shop for a portable AC since I'm new to this area. Mike helped me transition here successfully, as he promised that once I came into his store late afternoon, he'd ensure to have my bed delivered that same night, even if he had to deliver it himself. True to his word, he delivered my bed himself and even assembled the frame for me. Also, his recommendation for the portable AC worked out as well. Moving is a very stressful event, especially a big move from CA to TX, but at least Mike made sure I had a nice, comfy bed to sleep in my first night here. Thanks, Mike! You're the best!! read more

Mike's service is outstanding! The prices are great and the quality is great too! I will definitely be making recommendations.

Mattress is great thank you man! Great service and helped me through everything would definitely recommend him!

I moved to Austin without a bed so the first order of business was getting one. I did some cost comparisons online then went to the store to have a look for myself. I was personally greeted by the owner Mike who helped me pick out the best mattress for me. The price was very competitive and there was no BS. I came the next day to pick up my new bed and Mike helped me load it and send me on my way. I would recommend this mattress shop for anyone who wants to feel comfortable shopping for a mattress. Mike admits he sometimes keeps shortened hours so please call ahead if you're coming later in the evening or early in the am. He keeps his cell phone number posted on the door and is readily available if you call him. Now that's wonderful service. read more

July 10, 2013 I recently embarked on a 3 day trip to move to Austin, Texas from Washington D.C. Having brought only what I could fit in my Volkswagen Jetta, upon my arrival in Austin I desperately needed to get the right equipment to help me snooze off the past 23 hours of driving. After consulting Yelp for local discount mattress retailers, I decided on Discount Mattress at 615 Slaughter Lane. The store is fairly small, presided over by Mike, the friendly owner. He asked me what I was looking for and what my budget was, and helpfully pointed me in the direction of a couple of mattresses that fit the bill. A dedicated comparison shopper, I narrowed it down to two possibilities, and then prostrated myself on both in my favorite sleeping positions repeatedly before I made my final selection. Mike was very tolerant of my lengthy decision-making process. Unwilling to sleep on anything smaller than a full-sized mattress, I asked Mike about my delivery options- again, my small, gas-saving car was not much help for the task. "You'd be better off renting a truck from Home Depot, brother," he told me, explaining it would cost $60.00 to have my mattress delivered. The rental from Home Depot was slightly cheaper, and after my big, expensive move, every penny counts! I rented the truck and met Mike at the mattress warehouse just up the road, where my Rufino Pillowtop (made in Texas!) awaited me. Mike assured me I had made a great choice. After my glorious 8 hours of beauty rest the following night, I whole-heartedly agreed. read more

I wanted to replace a number of mattresses for my kids, and found Discount Mattress in Yelp while in the area. I called, because it was close to closing time, and the traffic was awful. The owner answered, and told me to go ahead and come in, and he waited for me past closing time. Mike, the owner, was very helpful in choosing the right mattresses, and seemed extremely honest and fair with his pricing (I didn't shop around, but his prices seemed very affordable). This is aways a refreshing change. I got the mattresses right away, the service was terrific (the opposite of most mattress stores, with pushy salespeople and permanent sales), and I love supporting another awesome Austin business. read more

After reading reviews for just about every other mattress store in South Austin, I skipped the rest and went straight here. Here are the reasons Discount Mattress got 5 stars from me: 1. Locally owned and operated. 2. No high pressure selling. Mike answered my questions and was always available to me, but ultimately, he allowed me to take my time and shop. 3. Honest pricing (and affordable!). This store isn't having a permanent 50% off sale. The prices are what they are. No haggling. 4. Great selection. It's a smallish store, but there were more than enough mattresses for me to choose from. 5. Mike said he could deliver the next day, and he did. 6. I have my new mattress to sleep on tonight, and I feel like I got a good, honest deal. read more

My wife and I were looking for two cheap, but quality mattresses for our new home. After stumbling upon Discount Mattress we found just that, and at a price that MUCH cheaper than what everyone else had been quoting us. We had no problem finding the place. It's exactly where the address says. Mike was very helpful and friendly. We picked up the two mattresses and he was so kind as to help us load them up and tie down our back hood so it wouldn't fly open. I highly recommend Mike and his business. He's a quality guy who will give you the best deal in Austin. read more

LOCATION: First, I don't know why this would be hard to find. A) There is a map image on the website. Essentially the corner of Slaughter and S. 1st. B) I put the address into my crummy bult-in GPS that I have in my car (sometimes it can't even seem to find the state capital building or know what city I'm in... it really is a p.o.s.... totally another story). Anyway... my p.o.s. GPS was able to take me right to the store. Didn't even need to whip out the backup Google Maps on the phone or anything. It is in a strip mall, sure, but there is a sign on the strip mall sign directory. Not sure what else could be done besides sending out a bat signal. SHOPPING: It seems like I've been to every mattress/ furniture store in a a 40 mile area and can't seem to find what I want. What I want is a plain and simple firm mattress. Not a futon thingamabob. Not a pile o' feathers in a sack, but a nice, firm mattress without bells, whistles, mood lighting (I provide my own, thank-you) and made-up 'scientifically proven jargon that promises to re-align all the molecules in your body'. I can do without all the mumbo jumbo hoo ha. I just want a nice, firm mattress. If I want a fluffy thing on top - I'll go and buy a fluffy mattress pad. Yeesh. Is that so hard? Oh, and can I please not feel pressured? And can I please not pay so much money for a mattress that I feel guilty because I could be using that money to provide clean water to a small village for a year? I appreciate a quality mattress, and will gladly pay for it, but the mark-up scams really are rather irksome. DISCOUNT MATTRESS: + OPERATING HOURS: Not sure if it was there before, but it was there when I went - a sign on the door with Mike's cell phone number letting you know if he is out in the warehouse or not. I asked him about it, and he said that it is really just him running the show for the most part. My conclusion: I you are okay with a Ma and Pop, local type establishment, Mike is your guy. Yes, there is the off chance that you may need to call him on his phone and wait 5 minute b/c he's in the warehouse. But...keep in mind that the lack of overhead is why he's able to give you such a great price. (Did I mention how many stores I went to ? Trust me, it's a great price.) I needed two queen and a twin. Mike totally hooked me up. He listened to what I needed : "I need cheap and firm. Don't talk to me about whoosits and what's it. Show me whatya got." And... he didn't look at me like I was crazy for not wanting to give him as much money as possible. He, like, totally understood that I'm not eager to part with money unnecessarily . How novel. I picked out my mattresses, loaded 'em up and went on my happy way. PS - There is a wide variety of mattresses - yes, even the fluffy ones. But, if you are one of the few remaining 'firm mattress loving folks' out there. This is the place to be. :) read more

Save yourself so much money and hassle and get yourself over to Discount Mattress. Mike was super helpful and within less than 24 hours we had our amazing new king size mattress delivered to our home, probably for about half or less than what we'd have to pay at the chain stores. We won't go anywhere else. read more

Bottom line: you may not need a "discount" mattress but shopping here will give you a better experience than any "full price" store. We needed a guest bedroom mattress, reviews led us here. If you are the kind of person that craves attention, this isn't your spot...Nobody is going to follow you around. What you get is a pleasant, no pressure situation with educated answers about any questions YOU want or need to ask. Paid cash for our mattress, walked out with a paper receipt and told Mike we weren't in a huge rush for it. Typically this scenario would lead to us tracking him down, but not with Mike. He personally delivered the mattress after following up with us - there are plenty more awesome details but then it would be a novel! These days I'm all about finding great people to do business with that I can trust and Mike at Discount Mattress is THAT guy! read more

We needed a new mattress for a guest bedroom when family was coming to stay, and after reading so many positive reviews I gave Discount Mattress a try. As all the reviews say, there are a wide range of beds and prices, no frills, and not a lot of staff on your heels. I went in hoping to get a fairly decent bed for our budget and actually bought one I considered "two categories" higher than what I expected to be able to purchase. It was a few days before Christmas and I needed the bed delivered quickly. I gladly paid the fee for the owner to deliver that evening before he left town for the holidays. Our family said they slept like a baby during their stay, that it was a great mattress. Thank you for your selection, prices, and service! read more

My boyfriend and I just moved down to Austin, and bought all of our furniture from scratch. We looked online for a mattress and found Discount Mattress from the stellar reviews. We went to the shop and were greeted by Mike. The store was empty so he was able to help us find exactly what we were looking for (foam, queen size). Mike was super friendly and talked us through all the prices, even gave us discounts on the mattresses we were looking into. We settled on one and he gave us an incredible deal! He was even able to deliver it the same day. He did it himself because the other delivery guys were not available. In the end, he even invited my boyfriend for beers! Mike is awesome! If you want a great deal on a great mattress, I highly recommend you go visit Discount Mattress. read more

Friend of mine came here to look for a mattress and claimed they were great with their 5 star review. I was looking to replace my king mattress with gel foam mattress. I walked in and was directed to the corner where he only had one. He kept showing me memory foam mattresses with foam. I kept explaining we wanted gel foam only. He kept complaining how busy he was and had to make deliveries. I felt rushed. When I asked if he had a medium firm, he replied, "I do not do specs, all the info is right here." as he pointed to the signs on the mattress. The only one gel foam mattress he had was not comfortable at all. I had figured he had a few better options, being that he website seemed like he had more options, but only had one gel foam option. I would have been happy to buy a mattress; but, this guy did not seem knowledgeable and seemed rushed. 5 star he is not. read more

I checked several mattress retail stores in the south Austin area and my last stop was at Discount Mattress. Not only was Mike helpful but did not follow me around and continue to give me a sales pitch. I told him I wanted a Pillow Top King Size and he pointed to two of them and said to try them out. After reclining on each I chose one and the price was very reasonable. Delivery was the next day and before I could sleep on it unexpected company arrived to visit. They said it was the most comfortable mattress they have slept on in the last 30 some years. I have slept on it for over a week now and certainly agree. Extremely comfortable at a great price. read more

Bought a full-size mattress at Discount Mattress that's dreamily soft and very high quality, and for less than what the competitors were asking. This is my second time buying a mattress with Mike, the owner, and he's a no-nonsense, fair, super cool dude. He even helped strapped the mattress onto my car roof, with an "oil field knot," he beamed. Wouldn't buy a mattress from anyone else! Feels great to support a local business versus giving money to a chain. read more

Went in I believe for my 6th set that we have purchased from Mike . I was looking fir an affordable full size set and Mike gave me several opportunities . With all the stores that come and go Mike is here and with the way he does business, will continue to be here. Good quality products at reasonable prices is the name of the game. I have bought four sets from him over the years and I keep going back because he is honest and genuinely tries to work with his customers. Great people to work with, unpretentious with no BS or excuses, good quality at affordable prices. What more could you ask for? read more

Fantastic service. Mike is the owner, and he is always there (unless he is picking up a delivery, but he's easy to find). I did some research before going out mattress shopping, and decided to start with Discount (this location specifically). When we walked in, Mike said hi and gave us a quick layout of the store. He then said we should take our time and proceeded to let us try all of them out while he sat behind his desk, available but not following us around. Zero-pressure. It was great. I crawled across the memory foam mattresses until I found my glorious new Wellsville cooling memory foam mattress. Mike gave us a great deal, better than online anywhere, by a large margin. He helped arrange affordable delivery, too. Support local businesses and drive out to 615 W Slaughter. read more

All I wanted to do was get a quote on a mattress, but this place is never open. I came in the morning and they weren't here, I came in the afternoon and they weren't here, they have all the signage of kind of a sketchy place, but I couldn't even get inside to figure it out. Don't waste your time driving down here, they probably won't be here. read more

Recently while packing up our storage unit for our move, we realized that our guest room mattress had been ruined by a roof leak. We had already rented the Uhaul and everything and were stuck not knowing what to do since we definitely didn't want to drag this moldy ruined mattress to our new place. In a panic we drove to the first mattress place we could find and I'm so glad it was this one. Not only was the price phenomenal (seriously, the lowest I've ever seen) but he even carried the heavy thing by himself and placed it in our Uhaul parked out front! I love our new mattress and seriously can't recommend this place enough! read more

I was recently on the hunt for a new bed and mattress/box spring set for my son's room. My parents were coming for a visit, and as they usually sleep in his room (he relocates to the couch). I needed something "TODAY". After a less than satisfying experience at another store, I decided to read some reviews to decide where I'd be shopping next. Although there were only two reviews for Discount Mattress both gave high marks, so I felt it was worth a shot. I went in and spoke to Mike who was very friendly and listened to what my son and I wanted. The prices were also very reasonable, and there wasn't the fake markup to make it look like he was doing me a favor. Call me crazy, but I appreciate honesty. To sum up, we got a mattress set of better quality than what we looked at the the "other" place for the same price that the other guy was going to sell me a mattress only. The set was delivered that evening as promised, and my son was very happy with his new bed! I've said it already, but I'll say it again. Thank you Discount Mattress!!! read more

i've never bought a mattress before, but i drove from new york to austin and found myself at my new place sleeping on the floor. so i figured now's as good a time as any. i have to agree with every other reviewer on here (except for the sad soul who couldn't find the place) -- Mike is GREAT. I was actually first assisted by Mike's friend (I think his name is Bob). Bob full admitted to my mom and me that he was just helping out and wasn't the mattress expert, but he did what he could. Once we made our decision, Mike came down from the warehouse and rang us up. My new full mattress with box spring was $250 plus tax. He said he'd deliver it the next day, which is he did. He drove down in his truck and hauled the set up to the second floor, which put me back $70 but it was completely worth it. bottom line: if you can have some patience, don't want to break the bank on a mattress, and want to support great local businesses -- GO TO MIKE. and, yea, the address is on slaughter, but you can enter on 1st. it's in a strip mall. read more

I didn't buy a mattress here, but only because I wasn't sold on any of the mattress in the store (I'm a very picky sleeper). The owner is rad and absolutely zero sales pressure. The store is clean and has a great selection of a bunch of styles - traditional, hybrid, memory foam - in a variety of firmness. Feels like an Austin institution!
