Generally speaking, mattress shopping sucks. Sifting through marketing jargon across what feels like an endless number of mattresses makes comparing alternatives exhausting. They started with my body type to determine which sleep positions and mattresses were most likely to work well for me, which helped narrow what I needed to focus on. They encouraged me to keep coming back over the course of three days without any pressure to make a decision. They also assured me that if I made a good choice but not a great one, they would allow me to return the mattress and support me in repeating the process until the right fit was found. It's also worth noting that, as an independent shop, they're not required to push specific products. That leads to more candid feedback and a curated product line based on what they're seeing actually work for customers. I want to start by first saying that the mattress we received was of extremely low quality for the amount that we paid. Falling apart with the first few days of removing the mattress protector to was it. We shopped for several days and visited multiple places because we have small children (under 5) that have severe allergies to certain materials. Shane assured us over and over that the 100 day trial was completely risk free and that in no way would the children be in danger of coming in contact with the material. I have that in a text from Shane. Low and behold the children did get sick and when we called to process the return Shane did everything except respond. When he finally did respond they sent out two guys who admitted they knew absolutely nothing about mattresses but they were instructed to leave it if it looked used. Shannon stated that in order to process a return they needed to be able to sell the mattress at a discount rate. But neither of the "professionals" in this instance ever evaluated the mattress. Only took the word of two movers who openly admitted to knowing nothing about mattresses. Still no response from Shane. Shannon however was brave enough to respond and stated that Shane would call me as soon as he finished putting up shelving in the back. Must be a large custom job because we still haven't heard from him. This is a completely different Shane than the one who was working so hard to get our business. Who seemed so knowledgeable and confident in the product he sells. Seems like he cared more about making money than he did for the safety and concern for our children. read more

To start, I have never left a review but I feel I have to as this is the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life. Days before the birth of my 7th baby, My husband and I walked into Austin premier mattress looking for a healthy comfortable bed. Shane helped us. He seemed lovely. We ended up choosing a very expensive aireloom king mattress for us and 4 full mattresses for some of our kids. We also got bed frames and protectors for them all. He said his beds were healthy and they would not cause us any health problems. I was concerned being a very sensitive person as I saw his mattresses were actually not organic and he said no one has ever had a reaction and we could try risk free for 100'days and get our money back if it's not for us. I also told him my concerns about having a home birth and being freshly postpartum with our baby, breastfeeding, and toddlers in the bed and he said it was fine. We took his word and paid for our order. The next morning I was feeling off about it, we tried to canceled the order. He held it instead. I ended up in the hospital and getting an emergency c section that next day. Now my healing looked even more different. Needing a bed, he once again told us to try his risk free and we went with it. It took three weeks for our bed to arrive being delayed for delivery, three times! Then the first week our bed was falling apart. Not to mention very uncomfortable. Time goes on in my newborn bubble... the bed doesn't get more comfortable and continues to fall apart. My kids have rashes all over their bodies, my newborn is constantly sick, and I'm getting so sick with the most painful inflammation that won't budge. Turns out we are allergic to this bed!! Took off the cover to see if it lessons and it does, just so slightly. Still awful! Still sick! We try to reach Shane for a return and he said we can't! We have now been going back and forth for about a week, still within the 100 days. Barely any response from them. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! EVERYTHING SHANE SAID WAS A LIE. HE SET US UP TO FAIL. PLEASE, GO TO AUSTIN NATURAL MATTRESS. This bed is 6,000$. We can't use it. Unfortunately, legal steps are our next steps. The stress this company has brought us with health issues and all is unbelievable. I will leave this review on every platform. read more

We purchased a queen mattress from Urban Mattress about ten years ago and remembered how much we enjoyed our experience with the company (and our mattress itself, which was divine), so we went back when it came time to upgrade to a king. Unfortunately, UM didn't carry the brand of mattress that we had anymore (we originally wanted to buy the same one, just bigger), but we chose a UM branded mattress that was just as comfortable. Shannon helped us and was a bright and cheerful presence as we figured out what we wanted. And we knew we wanted to test every mattress in our price range -- you can't do that with those mail-away mattresses! Due to supply chain issues, we didn't get the new mattress for about two weeks, but we were happy to sleep on our old mattress until then (Shannon did offer us a loaner, but it wasn't necessary). On the delivery day, the delivery guys called about ten minutes out and then expertly hauled our old mattress away and placed the new mattress on our bedframe. They were in and out and done in 5 minutes. The customer service here is top-notch and we love our new mattress. Definitely recommend Urban Mattress if you need a new mattress. read more

We purchased an Urban Mattress branded king 2 years ago. When it was delivered, I noticed that it was too short for our bed frame - there was a 3"-4" gap between the mattress and the headboard. When my wife contacted Urban Mattress we were told that it would expand over time. I was skeptical but gave them the benefit of the doubt. 2 years later, the mattress is still the same size. A king mattress should measure 76" x 80". I have measured ours at 74" by 77". I have spent 2 years going to bed with my pillows falling behind my mattress, and every night I feel a little bit ripped off. Now 2 springs are broken and poking out of the side. This was the last straw and I contacted UM. I wanted to give them a chance to make this right, as it may have been an honest mistake (though I don't see how you accidentally leave out 3 inches of a mattress). My initial contact was several weeks ago. I was told to take pictures of a measurement of the mattress and the bed frame - DONE. I was told to provide the manufacturer of the bed frame - DONE. I was told to provide a picture of the "law tag" on the mattress - DONE. After several weeks of inconsistent response from the store management, I was told to email the warranty department as "this appears to be a warranty issue". DONE. This was sent a week and a half ago. I have received NO RESPONSE from the warranty department, not even a courtesy "Hey we got your email and we'll get back to you" message. I've given this company more than enough chances to fix this without me having to leave this review. The quality of the mattress: ONE STAR. The quality of the customer service: ONE STAR. I am beyond fed up with this situation. If you shop here, buy one of the reputable branded mattresses. Don't buy their "store brand" unless you want to be RIPPED OFF. read more

As a Purple refugee, I greatly appreciated the opportunity to walk in and spend upwards of an hour trying out and learning about mattress options offered at Urban Mattress from the friendly and helpful staff. Shane was very knowledgeable and more than happy to answer all of my numerous questions. I found the white-glove delivery to be as positive an experience as making the in-store purchase. The handlers were friendly, and even carried my old mattress down a flight of stairs to the garage for me. The delivery took less than 15 minutes. I found their selection of mattresses to be wide enough to find the mattress that I felt the most comfortable on. Note that they do not offer returns, and instead will apply a credit worth the value of the mattress (less $100 for pickup) should you wish you exchange your mattress for another. It won't be a problem finding a good quality mattress here, but make sure that you find one you love. On the whole, my experience with Urban Mattress was a very positive one, and I'd recommend at least stopping by for anyone in the market for a new mattress. read more

We're very disappointed with our experience. We tried several different beds at the store and we were told by Shane they would take back any bed if we were not satisfied "no questions asked". Sounded too good to be true and it was. We also noticed an extra $100+ added on to the final total which Shane stated was for the mattress cover which he didn't even think about asking us if we wanted... honestly, we should have walked at that moment, being up-charged for something we did not ask for or need. But with a return guarantee from Shane, we decided to continue. Delivery, etc was fine with no complaints. But after night 1 we realized this bed slept very hot. We gave it a bit to see if we could get used to it, but a few weeks later (well within the guarantee) we went back to initiate our return. This time we were told by another salesman that they only do exchanges and that we're the only people he's heard of "sleeping hot" in this bed. Shane, was not honest with us as their guarantee is not all it's explained as. Us, being defeated and having no recourse, this other salesperson sold us a different mattress cover (another wasted $100) which he stated would keep us cool. It did not work. The original cover we purchased (without our knowing) was blamed as the culprit. These people are dishonest salespeople... the definition of it. This was not a small purchase and we were completely taken advantage of. I'm so disappointed in the folks that work here and product we ended up with. Dishonesty to make a sale. We wanted to support an ethical company, get a product that met our needs and improved our sleep. We, unfortunately, didn't achieve any of those goals. They're rebranding because they've done wrong... the new co will have to prove they're not the same. TLDR: they don't care read more

I had previously attended a yelp event at Urban Mattress and had blast. My husband was back into town and wanted to show him the same experience I had. We arrived and spent close to an hour trying new mattresses. We were offered free drinks to include; water, coffee, and beer. We were explained throughly about the mattresses as we tested them out. There was no pressure sales and we were encouraged to come back again to test out mattresses again. We were given quotes to the two mattresses we really linked. My boyfriend and I are totally different people, and Urban Mattress has somehow managed to completely satisfy us both. I bought a new mattress from here five years ago, when I moved to Austin for graduate school, and I love it as much as ever. It has held up well and even been a source of comfort during what can be a challenging and unstable time of life. My boyfriend slept on a mat for the last ten years or so. It started to get uneven and sag after 4 years or so. We moved and it didn't move with us. I kept getting emails though. The buying process was much more pleasant than most, which is a big bonus. What a fabulous experience this afternoon with Isaac! My boyfriend and I came in exhausted from the used car sales approach at Mattress Firm and Factory Mattress. We had literally been into every mattress store between North and South Austin over the last 3 weeks. Walking into Urban was such a breath of fresh air. Isaac offered us a beer and we got to laying. They have everything in there! From $800 to $13,000 they've got quite the variety. My favorite part was that the prices were fair and there wasn't the haggling involved like most big box stores. What you see is what you get. Phew. Isaacs 6 year old son was walking around the store in his Spider Man mask offering customers water. Literally adorable and half the reason we loved the place. Just kidding... But the kid sure did help! We ended up settling on a Evo mattress made in Texas. Super comfy and we also bought a great frame, bed cover, pillows, etc. Super thrilled for that to be delivered (for free) next week! Quick, painless, and wish this would have been our first stop!!!! UPDATED: I have since heard directly from the Store that although the manufacturer did not approve the warranty for defect, they subsequently decided to approve a replacement according to the guarantee card I received in 2016. Although I'm not happy about the effort it took, I am pleased with the result. I appreciate their integrity in holding up their "end of the deal", so to speak. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have loved my mattress for years, until I didn't, but I remembered when I purchased it, "Guaranteed 10 years" "No Questions Asked@ and "No Hassle" replacement. I even found the warranty card. Unfortunately Urban Mattress has refused to honor their terms. My mattress has developed a deep dip over the years and they will not replace it because despite using a mattress protector the mattress is stained. I wrote the warranty office. I provided my invoice. I took a dozen photographs to document the defect. (This is the no questions and no hassle part) Then I waited and waited. Then I emailed to follow-up and was told I could get a discount off a new mattress, but they have decided the mattress warranty doesn't apply. (I guess this is what they mean by guaranteed). I couldn't be more disappointed having referred many friends and neighbors over the years. read more

Wife and I had done extensive research online. Thought we knew "exactly" what we wanted. So glad we double checked and went to Urban Mattress before "buying" our mattress! While the mattress we thought we wanted was definitely great, we ended up really loving another mattress from the same maker AND it was significantly cheaper! I LOVE THIS STORE. Thank the heavens for Shane and his team of wonderful people. Buying a mattress is weird. Laying down in public with your significant other surrounded by others doing the same is awkward. But in Shane's store it's quiet, and cool, and kind of dark and relaxing. Plus they have beer (I think) but I didn't notice until we were leaving. We might have to stop in to get some when we pick up another set of sheets. We sort of walked in, laid down, and handed over our card. It was that easy. They can talk about mattresses as much or as little as you like. We bought a super premium mattress and today it was delivered by a group a three strong, friendly, funny speedy dudes. They ran up and down the stairs and carried our behemoth with ease. Shane said if our mattress didn't come in he'd see to it that we had a loaner. It did come in, and it's sitting up there in our bedroom ready to replace our garbage air mattress that we were sleeping on. This was all due of course to Atlas Moving for their 10 DAY DELAY on delivering our furniture. Anyway, this place is so awesome. They call you right away, they email you, they deliver on promises (and on time) and I'm not sure if they are the cheapest in town but they are local and they are FABULOUS and I would recommend them to anyone in the market for a new bed. Both experiences I've had with Urban Mattress have been very positive. The first time, I came in with my mom, who needed a mattress for a guest bed. She was looking for something with fewer chemicals and had researched Urban Mattress as well as another mattress store in the area. After going to both stores, she decided to purchase from UM because they had a wider array to choose from and a much friendlier, attentive salesperson (Isaac). A couple of months later, I decided to return to purchase two mattresses, and had the same great experience with a different salesperson, who went above and beyond to help me determine which box spring would best suit my needs. In any retail atmosphere, and especially in mattress sales, it can be difficult finding employees who are able to provide quality service without being pushy, but Urban Mattress does this extremely well. To make things even better, they offer free delivery, which was prompt and without any issues. I wouldn't bother mattress shopping anywhere else from now on. read more

The mattress is nice, a little firm, but we expected that... the customer service was pretty bad. The sales associate had a hard time managing his customers and he had people yelling at him during transactions (and he was yelling back). He was so unfocused, and had a hard time telling people to wait a few minutes. He seemed he needed to help everyone at the same time. It was annoying. Great experience. My husband & I needed a new mattress and wanted something nice, but nothing too pricey. Isaac welcomed us, let us know the differences in the types of mattresses there and then gave us room to check things out on our end. He was super friendly & easy going and provided just the right amount of assistance.
