DTV has many different contractors and providers under the DTV banner, so the service will vary accordingly. Installation was smooth, and everything worked. The TV picture quality itself is good, but broadcast channels look slightly better using my indoor antenna. Overall, As cable or satelite TV providers go, they are maybe a little better but not much in terms of quality and service. My main issue with them, and also what seems to be a growing trend in business these days, is they lie to you and take your money. I'm not saying businesses have always been a bunch of truth mongers, but the way businesses lure, decieve, and imprison the consumer nowadays is appalling. I kind of knew this going in. I started out with a bill of 58 bucks a month on a 30 dollar "teaser rate" package (and added a 5 dollar a month extra channel package). I also had NFL ticket as part of my teaser deal.....anyway, a year in and my bill is now almost a hundred bucks ($97 AND CHANGE) and It is well known they take you to the cleaners to get out of their standard contract. So I was up to more than 3 times the teaser rate within a year. And I'd like to define for any prospective contractees what the term "Free Genie" means. It should come as no Surprise the Genie is not yours nor is its possesion or use in any way "free". So what exactly do we mean by the phrase "free Genie"? Well, It is basically the equivalent of a car Rental company telling you, hey we are going to just rent you this car, you don't have to buy it from us, because the car itself is free, are'nt we such nice folks. DTV can harangue all they want in trying to run their marketing speil over you about this stuff. What is disconcerting about DTV and many other organizations is that this is the standard operating procedure many consumers have perversely grown accustomed to. Now, I would say to them and to other business providers too, maybe try a little more honesty, who knows consumers might actually respond well to that. To clarify: Any cable box or DTV box is what receives your TV signal. The Genie box is the "HD receiver". So what is the 15 buck a month "HD receiver fee" charge on your bill? Answer: they just call it "HD reciever fee" instead of Genie box rental. Aside from wind/weather related drop offs, the equipment was generally reliable with occaisional problems needing a tech visit. Comparatively I thought DTV's "on demand" feature lacked selection and performed poorly in actual use. It's not really streaming nor is it really On demand like you would get from cable providers. On the plus side I felt my DTV guy was pretty good relative to "cable guy". As they say, choose your poison. read more

I was promised a $250 visa gift card, a rate of $44.90 per month, and free movie channels for 90 days if I would switch from Uverse. The only one I received was the free movie channels. I have called numerous times since September 20 with no results, and I am tired of dealing with them. They do not keep their word and I am now ready to go back to Uverse. Direct TV makes promises they have no intention of keeping just to get you to switch. Do not do it! read more

Unlike most here I had years of good service, kept trying to cancel and they would offer me better and better deals. Last rate was $20 a month, not a ton of channels but I was good. But finally cancelled as I gave up cable for streaming via netfliks and amazon, got my credit for the DVR and then I get billed for $11.08. When I called they first said it was to wipe my DVR clean, then it was for movies I rented via the remote. According to the rep, I never paid for the 2 movies I rented 5 years ago-as if cooperate America doesn't charge you 60 seconds after the agreement... Anyway, they wouldn't waive the fee, started to cite the legal agreement I signed, etc. Will NEVER go back to them. Sad to see that they were willing to lose a potential return client over $11.08... Not a great business strategy. read more

Total crap company. You call to cancel and they make you talk to someone. Then you finally for the 10th time say cancel it and they get real nasty. The funny thing is they didn't even want their crap dvr back. Only 1 year old and they don't want it. They made me pay out the rest of my contract. So for that I will never use direct tv again. Now I see another crap company buying them out......att is buying them. I had them come out and fix it once and they said they wouldn't bill me. Guess what. They billed me. Goodbye forever direct tv. read more

The only reason I signed up for Directv was for the NFL Sunday ticket. I was very happy with my Verizon service. Yes, even the price. Ever since I got Directv 3 months ago it has been nothing but constant outages, black screen during channel changes and now, the Saturday before NFL kickoff, nothing works at all. Of course they can't get a tech to come out until Wednesday. After an hour on the phone with tech support that was the best they could offer. Oh, and a whopping $5 credit for my troubles. If you're thinking of switching to Directv do it only for the price. The picture quality is crap compared to Fios, customer service is useless and if a mouse farts near the dish expect to lose service for an hour. The only thing I can do now is count down the months until my contract runs out so I don't have to pay nearly $500 to cancel my service. I'm honestly considering biting the bullet and just paying it to get a decent tv service again. read more

My husband and I have been Directv subscribers since 1999. It used to be a great company that provided first-rate service. Now it's a third-rate operation that does not give a hoot about its customers. Directv dropped our favorite channel from our package without any prior notice. When we called -- twice -- to query about the disappearance of the channel, it took their reps almost an hour to "investigate" before informing us that we would have to upgrade our package (by paying almost twice as much) to keep receiving the channel. Our complaint (by email) to Directv went unanswered, and we could not get a manager to speak to us on the phone. Do NOT get Directv. Try cable or Fios. read more

Stay away from via stat, or exede.net who are contracted by direct tv. .Their installers are rude and incompetent, they are beligerent, and so the job half assed. They may install the dish and wires into home , however they fail to connect to modem. And once you contact to have them come back they become extremely nasty and refuse, stating internet signal is working properly sure, idiots but you need to connect the wires to the modem. Stsy away from them, I wouldn't let them install a lightbulb in my home. Its all about money. I wouldn't be surprised if it was done on purpose so they could collect more money to come back. Needless to say Geek squad came connect the other ends that were left dangling from the idiot squad all with in minutes and were extremely nice in making sure all laptops were connected and in working order. Satellite internet not recommended service connection way to slow. 1year and 359 days left before we can close account. Counting the days. read more

Let me start off by saying that I'm extremely frustrated and upset with Direct TV customer service and installation department. I've been a customer for nearly 3 years and my girlfriend has been a Direct TV customer for over 8 years. I have never been so frustrated and irrate with Direct TV or any cable provider as much as now. We moved recently and I tried to schedule the installation at the new home for the weekend but was only able to get a Monday installation time even though I scheduled 2 weeks out. The Rep said that I could back and see if there are any cancellations. Yea right, waste more of my time and hope that i get lucky to catch the cancellation and no one takes it. Well I did just that twice but nothing. Anyways, come that Sunday night before installation date, I get a automated call from Direct TV stating that they are out of parts for the Satellite dish and that I would have to reschedule the appointment another two weeks out. Mind you I go on vacation next week and have someone coming down over 4 hours away to house sit and watch our dogs with no service. The only thing the customer service reps says there is nothing we can do. They just don't care!!!! The most frustrating part is that the local installation company (MasTec) only notified me that they were out of parts that Sunday night before installation around 6:45pm!!!! What professional company can't track their inventory and notify their appointments sooner and stop scheduling the other appointments!!!! I told installation company that they can just bring the dish from my old address to the new one. They said they can't do that. So, I told them that I would bring the dish to the new address and that I just need a tech to come out and set it up. The rep said that she doesn't know if they could do that and would have their senior tech call me. It's been over two days and no calls! They won't give their phone numbers and Direct TV says that they don't have their numbers either. I call back to Direct TV, installation/appointment department and finally got a guy who seem to make the extra effort to help out (so I thought). I explained my predicament and frustration. I told him that I brought over our dish from old address to new one and just needed a tech to come out and install it. He was able to expedite it and told me that someone will be out the next day between 8am to 12pm. Come 10:30am next day, still no one. I called Direct TV and they say they have no record of the appointment. I asked them to check who entered information on my account (a guy) during the time frame the previous day. The rep saw that a guy entered some information on my account during that time but only had his employee number but no name. I asked to be transferred to him but she stated that she couldn't. There was no way to transferred to him. This is simply POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I called again asking for them to have the installation company call me as soon as possible. She said that someone should be calling me within the next hour. No call!!! I spent hours and days contacting different people at Direct TV and the installation company to no satisfaction. A complete waste of time. Direct TV JUST DON'T CARE!!! They just like yanking your chain!!!! The only reason I haven't just flat out canceled my account yet is because my gf can only watch her team on the NFL package. Otherwise, I would have canceled the account immediately! If I can't get a tech to come out in the next few days this week, I will cancel the account anyways! For anyone considering going with Direct TV, my recommendation with to choose Verizon Fios or your local Cable company. Plus, Direct TV constantly loose signal during bad weather days. read more

Sooo, let me count the ways that I have been disappointed by Direct TV. 1. They tell you they are coming to 'hook you up' and don't show until 2 hours after the visit window. 2. The sales people sell you the 'bundle' with Verizon but DON'T tell you that you have to set up their 'hook up' yourself. 3. They send a kid out who can only say 'yeah, I hear these complaints everyday, the sales people don't actually work for Direct TV and have no idea of what they are doing.' 4. If the wind so much a goes 'pffff', you lose service. 5. If more than three drops of rain fall, you lose service. 6. If you throw a party and the ladies soccor championship is coming on, yeah, you guessed it....no service.' 7. If you try to watch Suits, Blue Bloods, Ray Donovan or whatever show after waiting months to start up again....you get to see the first few minutes to remind you what cliffhanger you have been waiting to learn what happens....and then the little blocks start skampering around and yep, you guessed it...no service! So I am giving this non service a big nothing (had to give one star to post), just like what I see on my TV screen time and time again! Can't wait until FIOS or cable comes to my neighborhood. read more

We switched from Comcast due to the terrible customer service of that monopoly. Our advice is DO NOT use Direct TV/Verizon for your TV/Internet in the Alexandria area. The local government has not kept up with 21st century infrastructure requirements and Direct TV/Verizon uses AT&T copper wire for their internet. In other words, its DSL. Our internet speeds are typically in the 2.4, yes 2.4 MBPS range. That is less than I had in Spokane, WA in 1996. My parents live in the middle of Nebraska and have fiber. After numerous phone sessions with Direct TV and Verizon help desk they advise that there is nothing they can do for us. They didn't tell us that before we switched. We live within three blocks of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial (just for a point of reference) so we are by no means in the "sticks". There are two of us in the house. We use two laptops and two cell phones, sometimes a tablet. Bandwidth is shot during peak hours trying to stream with one laptop and the other doing simple search. Our advice - do not use Direct TV/Verizon internet in this area until infrastructure improves to 21st century standards. read more

This company sucks...we have three receivers in the house and one of them wasn't working. when they came to fix it the technician said there was some issues with the outside connection. All the other two receivers in the house were working just fine except one. When I got my bill in November, I realized there was a $50 service call for the technician to come out. When I called they told me that they had informed me of this fee 'LIARS'. So I asked to speak to a supervisor....he resisted and providing me a credit stating the technician had said there was something wrong with the line and therefore they couldn't give us a credit because even if case of a storm, 'act of God' they cant control that so therefore, customer must pay for the service. So I asked him if there was an "act of God' why were they other two receivers were working? shouldn't all of them had an issue? and he replied 'yes, but it's still its not DIRECT TV faults" so I replied so 'I guess, it was ours?' so he said for future reference you should get the protection plan. So basically we have to pay for a service call when one of their equipment (which were are leasing) isn't working! THAT'S JUST RIDICULOUS if you ask me! And more importantly, 'the technician' fixed the problem temporarily, they had to come out three times to get this problem solved and still they want us to pay for this?????????? seriously????? DIRECT TV. DONT GO WITH THIS COMPANY! We had three receivers which we paid for and now they say 'we are leasing them' so why should we pay for this??????? minus 20 stars read more

Again DIRECTV shows that they are the worst TV provider and are only in it for the money. I unfortunately have to call to rent a movie and as the movie is provided I realize that it is not on demand. My family doesn't have the time for the next two days to watch. I then have to call DIRECTV to cancel the movie. By the time I reach someone to talk to I am told that I on have 5 minutes to cancel and the time has pasted. So now I have to pay $5.99 for a movie that my family doesn't get to watch. DO NOT GET A CONTRACT WITH DIRECTV. I will end my service with Directv. read more

Its just sad i have to give them 1 star, I don't feel like they deserve any stars..Direct TV has lost all customer service. They sold us new equipment that quit working 1 week after installation. We have had 2 service appointments that they never showed up for and they expect us to keep taking off work for another appointment. They get you into a 2 year contract that only let's them offer you terrible service that only protects them. If I could do this over I would rethink directTV. I have had to call them over 8 times and they always say someone will call back or be out to take care of our service and no one does what they say they will. read more

Totally disappointed. I just entered into the required two year contract. Within one month I start getting an error message and have no signal. They were quick to come out and set me up initially but when it comes to follow up I have a two week wait for a service tech. And no matter who I have complained to it has remained at a two week waiting period. If I could I would cancel but I don't have that option...seems they do have the option of crappy customer service once you sign the contract. My suggestion if you are considering Direct TV...DON'T DO IT!!!!! read more

Would never EVER recommend Directv to anyone ever again. As a college student I had their service for three years. After I graduated I cancelled the service and turned in all the equipment. I then relocated to Centreville VA, Directv had then decided to charge me for some unknown reason. Since I had moved and did not know about the charge I could not address the problem or even pay it. So instead of contacting me through phone or email they just used my form of payment that I used to pay my bills with and just took the money out of the account. That is when I was alerted about the charge, I tried calling their customer service line and would be on hold for hours. I talked to their people on the chat line 3 different times and they would all tell me that they would have the money put back into my account in 3-4 days. I still have not seen the money they took out of my account without my authorization. That was 2 months ago. So their customer service is horrible and I would not recommend this service to anyone. read more

I love Direct Tv...I can record 5 shows at once and my HD is better than DISH or comcast. I have tried everything available and think they are the best at the lowest price by far. I want to share very very bad service Ive received from DirectTV today. I've bought a new 4K TV last weekend and all I want from DirectTV to upgrade my old receiver and mini Jinie to be able watch 4K programs. Called customer support on Monday evening. Spent 2 hrs just because they cannot pull on theirs end a schedule for appointment. Then when I finally get scheduled for today tech arrived spent 2 min in my house, showed me his cell phone with wrong info on it, stated he doesn't have a right equipment and left without any notice to me as a customer he is leaving. Really? Left me with no info what need to be done. Today all morning I'm spending with telephone call to several different departments. Talked to Ms. Kathrine from customer relation, she was assured me all job will be done today and somebody will contact me within next hr. They called me and stated 4K information is still not correct on work order. Why? Why you guys cant send right info to right department? Talked today to several people (like 10) explain the story all over again again to each one, what i need. Still nothing. All of the sadden they decided to get schedule on 13th of the month without any confirmation or ask me if i willing to be schedule on 13th. Service is VERY VERY BAD . Everytime I have called to complain about a service issue I have been told that they are (A) aware, and (B) can't do anything to fix it. DIRECTV technical support and customer service is the worst that I have ever experienced. I recently had a roof replacement and the D-TV dish and support mount was removed from the roof. The roofers reinstalled the system in the exact same location and when I turned on the TV I received an error code. I talked with customer service and was scheduled to have a technician come out to align the dish. The soonest appointment available was a week later. I have received better service from both Comcast and Verizon in the past. Immediately, after setting up the appointment I was called with a telephone survey, which I responded to negatively in regard to customer service since it would take a week to get a service technician to my house. Finally the day arrives, today, that we should get our TV service back. The technician arrived only to tell my wife that he couldn't leave his ladder to get on the roof to align the satellite dish to receive a proper signal. He reported that he was a technician from North Carolina up here in Northern Virginia helping out and it was company policy that he could not leave his ladder. He took pictures of the location of the satellite dish and sent them to his supervisor, who confirmed that he would be unable to align the dish. My problem is this dish was reinstalled where D-TV placed before it was removed for the replacement of the roof. I told the technician today that I understood and asked him to get me a phone number for the local contractor/installer manager for DIRECTV so I could discuss a resolution to this problem. He emailed and called their office with no response. After waiting for more than 30 minutes, we decided he should leave. In my day long quest to get this issue resolved, I have talked to customer service personnel at every number I could find on the internet to include, 1-310-964-5000, supposedly a DIRECTV Headquarters number. After many calls I was told that I would be called back by the local dispatch to resolve this issue. That was over 6 hours ago. I am completely fed-up with the incompetence of DIRECTV personnel not being able to fix the problem. Not only will I cancel DIRECTV; I will never become an AT&T customer again because of this experience. If anyone from DIRECTV reads this and has any authority to fix problems they can leave their name and number and I will call them. read more

I'm not about to compliment anyone on how well they're doing their job when in reality they don't have a clue regarding what I'm calling, or talking about! They (customer service reps) need to demonstrate some active listening skills before I'll cave. When you have paid your hard-earned money for something that is a want and not a need, and it doesn't work, or there is an error on your account, one tends to be frustrated and yes, will act less than admirably. Especially when the rep gives an emotional response that serves to irritate the customers further. Direct TV obviously does not think of complaints as a time-consuming issue. Appearing disinterested, or attempting to argue back, will only exacerbate the situation. Besides, are those the skills one needs to work for this company. They are probably a Tier structured company. You know, Tier 1 people make the lowest salaries, and they lack advanced training and work from a script. They have no authority and no expertise. Be prepared to be put on hold for at least 20 minutes as you are transferred to a rep in Tier 2, or perhaps someone acting as a supervisor even though they are not. God forbid one expects their problem to be handled by a trained person. That is, if the problem is an easy one, like an ongoing error on the bill, verifying charges, or getting an upgrade. My husband called Direct TV about a major ongoing error in our bill. To sum up what took over an hour to resolve, this particular rep was being completely unreasonable about the situation and spoke over my husband! NEVER HAD I EVER DEALT WITH A REP like this one. She talked at him like she was the consumer when in reality she lashed out in a hood-like, flat-out way with her over worked, entry level, low pay, insensitive, non-efficient skills that was lacking any shred of possible sense, or to remain impassive. The problem is there are no repercussions for the service rep. So now we are left feeling this company does not value us, or our hard earned money. Without going into further detail, a customer service rep is a whole and the entire company. The face of the company. The one who is expected to resolve the issue quickly. Understand this one word: RESOLVE. I could care less about the internal rules within the company, or who didn't show up for work, or what you did last night. Take the calls one step at a time in a professional manner, feel the callers pain and do everything you need to do to resolve the issue. You know... do YOUR JOB YOU APPLIED FOR. You're the first point of contact and hopefully, the last person the caller needs to talk with. In today's economy, if the customer doesn't come first, you won't have any customers, or a job. More so, dissatisfied customers are posting personal, experienced stories in reviews about their interactions with customer service reps. Maybe Direct TV need to be reevaluated. Dealing with customer complaints should be top priority. Every business should have a contingency plan for customer complaints and steps to improve this! Why are we having to take precious time and complain about something you cannot follow through with. The challenge should be to handle EVERY situation in a way that leaves the CUSTOMER thinking, "This company operates in such a great way!" Complaints from consumers are inevitable. Find a solution to make us involved and value! read more

Signed up for direct TV service in February 2017, and notified them that I needed to suspend my services in April as we were in the processing of moving to another state. I filed the claim online. Direct TV did not suspend the service and continued to bill me for charges/services I was not using. I contacted them on 5/26 regarding the move and was not told to have any past due to balance/issue on my account. I scheduled my install for 5/31 and called them on 5/30 because I needed to reschedule. On 6/21, I was told that it was scheduled between 12-4 and that the technician was unable to enter through locked doors. My apartment complex does not have locked doors and the manager is available anytime to open the apartment if need be. I contacted them regarding the technician never showing up and was told that my services were suspended and that I was charged the 199.99 moving fee back in May. Again, I did not have service at my address but Direct TV continued to bill me for these "supposed" services. On 7/9 the technician came out and did the install through the moving department. He arrived at noon and by 230pm he was rushing out the door because he was told he had 2 other appointments to get to by his manager. The job he did was not good. He did not run the cable wires appropriately, made holes in my wall and left dust/trash. I had to call customer service 3 times to have another service technician come out and repair the crappy job the technician did along with fixing the damages he incurred. I am still fighting with Direct TV for a credit on my account for the moving fees/damages I incurred. read more
