In 2023 I got directv most affordable plan for $86 a month. At the time I didn't realize I was signing up for a two year contract. My contract expired Aug 15, 2025. When I called directv on Aug. 15 to see if my contract had expired they said yes. They also told me my new monthly payment would be $137 a month that's a $51 a month increase. I was with DirectTV from 2017 to 2023. During that time, the reception was poor so they persuaded me to get a mini Genie that carried a 2-year contract. When I switched to a less expensive carrier, I returned the multitude of Direct TV equipment that belonged to them. Three months later, I received a collections letter from a 3rd party collector claiming I owed $185.02 for cancelling the contract early. When I cancelled with Direct TV, the agent did NOT tell me I would have an early termination of $185.02. Direct TV is highly overpriced. I do not recommend them. read more

I'll preface this by saying... they used to be really good. Granted, it was 2013--so literally a decade ago-- that I last had them. Direct tv has just gotten terrible, even about little things. Our paper bills keep ending up at our neighbors' houses (many, many times we've called to try to fix it). Trying to delete things (if you know you'll be gone for a weekend and just want to clean things up) is an absolute nightmare. There is a strange delay, so you really can't tell what you've gotten rid of. They used to have a function where you could undo unintentional deletion. Grumble. Well you get what you pay for price wise it's not a big diffrence but we thought we give it a try. The problem is the less you pay the less channels you get! You literally watch reruns never anything new with the channels they provide. Plus, why do we get cable??? When the weather is at its worse OMG the dish gets satellite problems and you can't watch a damb thing! That has never happened with time warner or comcast! So recently my wife and I have decided to cancel our direct tv due to the fact we never watch it, and when I call them to cancel I go through all the motions to cancel but they tell me that I will have to pay 340.00$ cancelation fee which by the way we started this account in July 2017 so we are way out of any contractual agreement. so I asked why the 340.00 then customer services you had an equipment upgrade and I asked what up grades are you talking about she say the wireless boxes that you had installed July 2019 and I said no they installed them because of all the problems were having with the equipment and these new boxes will solve the problem. So I asked do you have a work order of me asking for these upgrades she says no, I also added I didn't sign anything extending my contract at which point customer service says when I signed the paper asking if the work was done correct that is when they got me. (So be sure to read everything before you sign it even if it's a service call) then she says I will have to file a report and it will take 7 to 10 business days and if they don't wave I will have to pay it. Wow, what a mistake to choose Direct TV. The installer did damage to our house during his installation and now after getting the run-around for months they are saying that they MAY not even cover the damage since we are still using the service. This is apparently in their contract that they can damage your house but as long as you can still watch TV they don't have to pay for their damage. They have the worst customer service, the reps will keep you on hold to not talk to you (I was on hold for over 40min) and they really do not care. Recently "switched" from UVerse (both AT&T services. ..is this the Old Navy to UVerse's Gap??) The installation itself was inept, unprepared, and not what we were promised. The service: hardly a bargain at all when you compare to what's missing that we're used to with UVerse. (No FXX?? Ugh!! A ton of my favorite TV is on that channel :( No DIY Network either. There are more that I miss, but. ...out of sight, out if mind. Sigh. Sadface. ) The equipment is ....thhheeeeee......slooooooooooooowest........thing.......evvvvvverrrrrrrrr. Even on the "main" wired box (which I don't understand why we have at all - promised a completely wireless system. Anyway....) it takes close to a full minute for the system to respond to each command, like pulling up "guide" or selecting a channel. My couch time is limited - I can't be wasting minutes all willynilly like this! Don't totally hate it - it's meh - but definitely not completely happy either. Should have just amended our UVerse package. Or gone with Time Warner. Or ditched such services altogether in lieu of a solely Netflix & Hulu life. They assigned an appointment time for 8-12 yesterday and called to confirm twice. At 1:00 the tech calls to say they will not make it out to fix my service. I waited 5 hours for them. As of this message still have not receive a call back. With endless addition hours on the phone to get someone out here the issue was never resolved. OMG! Where do I begin... I called the customer service number tonight because I had questions on my bill. First of all the representative could barely understand my question. Kept us on hold for about 20 minutes trying to research our bill. I have issues with outsourcing when they barely speak English or can't communicate well. So the language barrier was definitely annoying. She basically told me "you got a credit last month so this month you have to pay it back". WTH When we started service in October they did not promise us this... that's for sure. Why are 0 stars never an option when reviewing? The option to select your plan and schedule installation shouldn't be available online if they're just going to make you call to process your request for service. It ended up taking another 30 minutes on the phone w/ a representative b/c the site let me get all the way to the confirmation before it said I had to contact them via phone. Installation was booked a week out so don't expect a rush installation. Then I get my 4 hour window, miss half a day of work, sit at my house all afternoon and the awesome installer doesn't call or show up. At all. I called customer service 5 1/2 hours in and asked where the installer was and the lady told me they were going to put a ticket in with the local office, and that I'd hear from them within an hour. It's been 24 and I still haven't heard from them. I just called and told them to cancel the installation and close the account. Direct TV has unfair business practices. If you don't cancel your service on the day your contract ends, they will bill you for the entire month even though your service terminated one day into the next billing cycle. If your billing cycle ends on the 25th you better cancel on the 25th or before. If you cancel on the 26th you still have to pay for the next 30 days even though you have changed providers. Can you imagine the customers being ripped off!! Make sure you start your termination process two weeks before termination date. read more

I was in Costco at Selma,A man approached me about switching from Spectrum to AT&T's Direct TV. Said it would cost about $109 a month as he started writing up an order.This was on Thursday in January. I asked how long I had to cancel with no charge,he said 2 weeks.The installation was suppose to be the next day. The Dish guy was out at around 9AM. Now I've had TWC since 2004 and he went in my attic disconnected what was up there then removed now Spectrums cable box hooked up the direct box handed me the remote and left. I got a text about 2pm that the Ethernet cable guy wasn't coming until Tuesday of the following week. So I'm left with no communication for 5 days. Everything I have goes thru WiFi. So I decided to cancel and waited until Monday morning because everyone knows weekends don't count! I was told to take the equipment to Fedex which I did. I called to check on my cancellation and was told after being passed around the country that they were going to charge me $535 for not completing the contract. I told them the salesman said I had 2 weeks. So after several hours on the phone with different AT&T people some agreed with me that they didn't complete the contract there should be no charge! I put a stop pay at Wells Fargo. Here we are now almost into March and AT&T is threatening to ruin my credit! I can't believe a company as big as AT&T is this bad on customer service. The day of the appointment I got texts telling me that the service man was on his way. He never arrived. I called the company and reported that the service man never arrived. I have had some better Customer Service lately. I've been able to lower our bill and still keep my regular channels. They have tried to do what they can to help us since our only income is a Pension from my Husband's work with the Plumber and Pipefitters Local 142, and Social Security. The only complaint an frustration I have had is since AT&T took over I have to try and speak to overseas call centers that are 1.taking jobs away from our country and sending it to people who hardly speak English. I've had to beg for an English speaking person each time that I call. It was always nice when it was just DirecTv because they had customer service here in the US. I never had to repeat myself so many times to actually get across to the Call Center in another company. 2. Oh the frustration with the Robo answering system is just as bad. To get to where you want to go on the phone service aka Robo pain, is to holler at the phone or hit the zero key until I finally get customer service who I can't understand due to their heavy accent. I am actually filing an elderly abuse claim with the BBB on them and ATT as an associate. Short story is that my 86 year old mother called to inquire about an ad that she received. They sent her a box which we promptly returned unopened. They refunded the box but charged her for "early termination" saying the account was activated. NO ONE CAME TO HER HOUSE! I spent a total of 1:45 minutes on 2 phone calls trying to explain this. They lied and said that 3 service people validated her activation. They only person she spoke to was the initial inquiry. I did all the communication afterwards. They also told me that I had spoken to 3 supervisors during the duration of a 1:15 phone call (and 5 different people), however, when I asked to speak to a supervisor on the 4th person, I was told they were busy and could not come to the phone! I repeated the request several times and was told the same thing. I wrote notes of the exact people, date, and time I spoke to them. Basically they said the charge would not be refunded. So I told them that the bill would remain unpaid and at 86, my mom doesn't need a credit score. I told my mother to return all bills unopened. I was appalled at not only the lies and the way I was treated, but the callousness with which they viewed my elderly mom. No way does she have the capability of hooking up that receiver and if it was "activated" like they said, it was done so before it arrived as it was never opened. This company just makes things up as you talk to them! In my 65 years I've never experienced such horrible service. read more

What ever you do, do not allow AT&T representatives to talk you into suspending your Direct TV account when you sell your old home and move 200 miles away to a new house in another town. After a few months you will get a bill for services you did not receive. Then when you call them about this, they will explain that they will remove the charges. BUT they won't and ANOTHER bill will follow the next month that is "late" and considered to be in collections. Then all the phone calls you make to talk to someone in a boiler room on the other side of the world will pressure you into paying it regardless of the discussion the previous month ago when they agreed to remove the charges. Of course, you are going to because you always pay your bills and have a wonderful credit rating you do not want to tarnish. Then when your call afterwards to complain because this whole thing is just outright wrong, they will tell you the only way to fix this problem is to reopen the account, place it is collections, and then give you a refund. RED TAPE. RED TAPE. RED TAPE. All red tape that could possibly scar your credit rating for something THEY recommended. Don't allow them steal $68 from you legally like they did to my husband and I. As a loyal customer for four years, the only thanks I got after having to cancel due to a job relocation was having to pay a $500 cancellation fee and being told by a surly representative that even if the money was "not in my account to be auto-debited they would charge an overdraft fee". Ever since AT@T bought DirecTV they have fucked up a perfectly good company. Uverse was bad enough then they bought directv. Uverse kept using promotions which screwed up my bill very month. After my contract was up I went to direct TV . Now AT@T/DirecTV is using promotions it's starting to screw with my bill. My term is up and I am done with cable! I use a couple of Roku's I stream everything, I mean everything!
