Horrible horrible service , since it changed to vtx 1 . Have been with them 12 years , Feb only had maybe a week of service. No prorated service. It was thier fault . Waited on the phone for hours to speak to someone. Or tried the call back because they were so busy that did not happen, they moved two buildings down and was never notified of a change of address.. don't go with them. I had the RS 25MB plan for 4 years on a 4K TV and 2 computers and could never stream 1080P video reliably without buffering, even when it worked. The employees were great and tried their best on several occasions to improve the service with what they had. I received the advertised speed fairly often but it was not stable enough to stream. Latency ranged from the double digits to 500-700ms. I might get 25MB\sec one time and 2MB the next. It was like paying $88 for a tank of gas and only getting 5 gallons, but there was nothing I could do but suck it up and hope for something better next month. Frequent outages were frustrating. Some were brief and some were long but I had them weekly. Rain? Forget it. The slightest rain would result in rain fade and full loss of connectivity until it had passed. It's the norm with line of sight technology but it's aggravating. If you live close to one of their towers you probably wouldn't notice. I was maybe 3 miles away with good signal strength. Don't buy the story that 25 megs won't stream. It's the minimum needed for 4K and more than enough for 1080p unless you have several data hungry devices in the home. I now have 30MB from a local competitor and 4K video streams like water with two computers surfing YouTube. Latency is in the 20's. I give a ton of credit to the employees for trying but the trouble was beyond their reach. I hope RS can get their problems resolved. Competition is healthy. read more

Don't even get me started on trying to get someone otp over the weekend. 24/7 service but I've called three times now held for over 40 minutes each time just to have the line disconnect. Been without service for two days. No emails about service interruption or anything like that. Literally started typing this out while waiting for someone to come on the line and it once again disconnected. I was a customer when they first started. This is when they cared about you as a customer. I was on an old contract and when it expired my bill doubled. Wow! I called the business office but no one has gotten back with me for over 2 weeks now. The service also has gotten less reliable and I found a better company that gives me faster internet at a cheaper price. Shop around and stay away from this company. I got a call from RSI a few months ago stating they'd upgraded their equipment and that the line of sight signal to my home would be better. They offered to sign me up again at no risk: if it didn't work, I wouldn't have to pay. So...I signed back up. Their data throughput was as much as advertised - 6Mbps - for a while without issue, so I kept them. In September of 2012 the service declined. From September through and including January of 2013, the download speed was awful. It varied from double-digit kilobits per second to half of what I was paying for. I made my obligatory calls to their tech support, which had improved over time. Once elevated to the 2nd tier of tech support, I heard from no one. No calls, no emails, no nothing. Finally the service improved, but I still received absolutely no communication from the company at all wtih the exception of two messages on my cell phone from a rep but, when called back, I got the main number, which didn't put me in touch with the person called. The data throughput did improve markedly for a time, but this morning it's back down around 3Mbps, half of what I'm paying for. So I suppose we're back to the drawing board. As this company has grown, their customer service has degraded drastically. My main complaints: - Outside of their help desk, response is virtually non-existent. Simple questions sent via email aren't answered, and response time is slow, when they do respond. - When I asked if I'd receive credit for poor service over a period of months I received no response. - When I asked why I'd not received a statement, and how I could access the customer portal to view my statements as I used to do, I received PDF statements, not answers to my questions. - When I asked upgrade questions, I received no response. Because this is the only game in town for me, I'm stuck. AT&T is a last resort at 3Mbps. Though I'm close enough to their central office to rate higher speeds, the copper takes a circuitous route through the neighborhood before getting to my house. So...if I go back, it'll be 3Mbps, but at least it'll be reliable. It's pretty sad that I live 20 miles outside the 7th largest city in the country, and the best I can do is an unreliable 6Mbps. read more

Their outage map showed the service was down so I figured it would be back up soon. This morning when it was still down, I called customer service and they told me they couldn't fix it until Monday because they had a company party to attend this afternoon. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was transferred to voice mail, where I left a message (Twice). Big surprise, I haven't been called back after more than 3 hours. 1.25 stars is generous for Rock Solid. In July we had 20-30 drops a day. This month the "high Speed service" is a max of 7mdps. They would not answer tech lines last week so sent email and got no answer. Today I called and they said it would be a week before a tech could address my problem but acknowledged they showed an issue with my service. The one thing they do do on time is bill you for service they do not provide. I have had internet service in 2nd and 3rd world countries where I have worked and lived that has been superior to Rock Solid. As soon as BEC has all their fiber run Rock Solid will be history in the hill country. read more

We have been with them from when they first started and they use to be great and care about there customers but now as they have gotten bigger they have done nothing to keep us with revenew so service is horrible. I had RSI for 8 years and recently AT&T came into my neighborhood with fiber internet for a few bucks cheaper. Obviously I switched over if I'm gonna pay the same price for actual good reliable internet. We scheduled a day and time for the equipment pickup and I was told they'd come around noon or earlier. They didn't come, I had things to do so I left my house at 6. I called today, a week later, to see why they didn't come pick it up and if they can come pick it up and they said they had come the day that we scheduled at 6:21 and that they called, which is strange because I had no calls made to my cell. Now I have to go out of my way uninstall their equipment and drive 40 min to drop it off or ship it out which would be costly. Very unprofessional. It seems that they've gone from being one of the fastest lowest priced internet service providers to one of the highest priced slowest internet service providers. Every time their prices go up their service gets worse. Connection issues or extremely slow connections. Trying to get school work done is becoming impossible. Watching Netflix and having it pause to upload all the time is frustrating. And their customer service is the absolute worse. The people I've dealt with are rude and very unprofessional. Do you know why they call it "Rock Solid"? Because it's soooo HARD to get a connection! All jokes aside, there quality of service is very inconsistent and unreliable. Countless hours down because of unknown network issues. This issue has continued to get worse as more and more customers join Rock Solid. Large numbers of customers = more revenue. Profits before quality is a poor business practice. Unfortunately Rock Solid is the only provider outside of Satellite Internet in rural areas. Maybe some upgraded equipment that is more reliable would increase customer retention or at least ensure that long time, existing customers continue to receive the quality of service that was there in the past. read more

Now, 10 weeks later I was told " we don't have an answer. You will just have to wait". I would not be lying if I said I think the customer service techs need drug tested. Shitty service, shitty customer service, and if you complain that you are paying for their largest package and getting the smallest packages speeds and want a refund for difference, instead of handling it to keep the customer happy, they essentially "fire" you as a customer and say we can no longer meet your needs. If you call customer service they will threaten to disconnect. I finally found an alternative in the hillcountry that works, is extremely fast and never had any problems!!! Rock Solid is plain horrible and continue to take advantage of customers where they are the only option for Internet. It really is down right criminal and the TX PUC and FCC should go after them. We have had rock solid for a couple years now. Yes we have problems here and there. Sometimes the service goes down but all internet providers have issues, and if someone says they have never hand any internet problems then they clearly have no idea what they are talking about. I am an IT professional and have worked with numerous internet providers and have some problems with all. Rock solid is a good internet choice for out in the sticks. Satellite internet is not very good. If you have kids with games, they won't be able to play all and the internet will lag a lot. I see on here how people always complain about speeds but really anytime after 3pm usually there are a lot of people online at these times. It takes a lot of bandwidth. They do try to keep the speeds up, but sometimes they are unable. I know they are upgrading equipment now and performing software and hardware updates. I can't wait to see how everything goes. read more

My experience is very similar to Carlos J's review. I have had almost the exact experience with RSI. I initially purchased the 15 mbps package and was elated that I was receiving those speeds initially when the technician came to the house to set it up. However, over the course of a month now, the service has froze multiple times and often speeds go down to 1 mbps or lower. Internet becomes virtually non-existent at times. Netflix will freeze. I downloaded a playstation movie, which took over 1 day to download. I had to wait the next day to finish it. I was paying for the highest /mos expensive service, but the reliability of the service was atrocious! There aren't alot of internet options out here, but this company is not reliable at all. The customer service is a joke. I have called multiple times and each time they put me through the same circus routine of unplugging and replugging my router. Each time it doesn't work. Each time I speak with someone different. Most of the time the person is defensive about the service and has offered various reasons why the service is sluggish (e.g. a weather storm blew down to tower and we had to set up a new one which is experiencing problems) or (e.g. the technician for internet america messed up the tower connections and it's going to take a week to fix), but no matter the excuse I never saw a solution. After repeated attempts to have someone come to the house to investigate the set-up, I was refused multiple times, stating that wasn't the problem. They finally stated someone would come to the house but they would charge for a service call!! Seriously, after I have been messing with this crappy internet service for weeks?!! They did not even offer a partial refund, although I had called on multiple occasions with exceptionally slow service and documented the speeds each time. Do yourself a favor and sign up with a reliable internet service provider. read more

We have been with Rock Solid for years, it's one of the few services available in our area. The internet service is, at best, ok. The customer service in the past has been pretty good, with problems resolved relatively quickly, at all hours, or at least a reason for the problems. Today, we basically have no internet, my husband called earlier, before 5 pm, and was told there was no problem, but now at 6:30 pm, the customer service rep says there are a lot of people calling and someone will check into it at 8:00 am. 8am? Really? I have to wait over 12 hours for internet? You suck. I sure wish I could find a reliable internet company. read more

The Good: Reasonable price. Reasonably solid. I have had very few outages--on par with most of the wired internet providers I've had. When we've had a significant outage we've had somebody out within a day or three. It meets my needs. The Bad: Slow. It is wireless DSL and there is a distinct slow down in the early evening that doesn't pick up until all the people trying to stream video go to bed (or fall asleep with it on). Tier 1 tech support can't help much. Higher tiered tech support seems to only work day shift--tough for people with a job to be able to communicate without taking time away from work. It is rare to hear any of my neighbors say anything good about RSI. It is also rare to hear any of my neighbors say anything good about any of the other Internet providers except for commZoom. The Ugly: I am disappointed to hear that complaining about the service, especially in a public forum, will apparently result in having a subscription revoked based on posts that they have chosen to keep on their Facebook page. It meets my meager needs. I am satisfied and content. But with wired Internet just a couple of blocks away and with it coming to my street soon I doubt I will stay much longer. They get a 2nd star for being as reliable as anything else I've used. Tech support and interaction with the public costs them a higher rating. read more

I've had RSI ever since I moved to Castroville back in July 2014. They were very good at the installation. I like the fact that there was no charge. The Tech was great. I decided to get the "up to" 6 MBS as I thought that would be enough. I do games but really need internet (I have satellite TV and don't really stream media much). I had had Verizon Fios (fiber) in Maryland. The package was $120 a month but that was with cable TV. My downloads were 120-130 MBS and there was never a sever that could give me the data that fast. It flew. And, it was never down. With RSI I have never had speed tests that are near 6 MBS. The most I have ever tested is just under 3. Some times it crawls along at 1/2 a T-1 speed. It makes the gaming impossible. I am a retired Information Technology professional and I dread calling these folks as technical support always tries to point the problem at your end to plant the seeds of doubt. Remember, they advertise speeds "up to" X MBS. They do not guarantee anything. I guess this is the price to pay when you live in the country. read more

Their service is terrible, on the rare occasions that everything is actually working, my download speeds get throttled down to 3 mb/s +-1mb. I have been a loyal customer for over a year now. I contacted Rock Solid early this morning because the storm damaged my equipment. I spoke to a gentleman Matt, and was told the soonest they can come out to my home is June 6, 2022. I explained I work from home and need internet to do my job, I can't be out of work that long. He stated their is nothing he can do that's how far out appointments are being scheduled. It's absolutely ridiculous your company takes my $$ quick every month but I have to wait two weeks to get internet back! My suggestion is you hire more techs so you don't interfere with people's jobs. This is the 2nd time they are coming out for the same issue. I asked the previous tech if he could secure it with more than one screw so I don't have future issues and was told it would be fine! I live in Bandera and had Maverick Internet.RSI bought them out i think it been about a year and a half I have had very little trouble with it Unlike internet America witch was always down i think RSI has been down twice and then it was less than 3 hrs. I did have a problem my down speed was 0.22 and up was 0.01. it took many phone calls and finally when i told them to fix it or turn it off they fixed it and it was in there end. I keep hoping they will get there equipment upgraded so i can get the higher speeds. but i get a solid 1500 down and the up is slow it is 0,25 up. So i will stay with RSI They are still mile ahead of internet America witch was down one time for over two weeks. read more

It has been several months that I've had a poor signal. I've had the Tech come out several times to fix my antenna and one day another Tech came out and said the Antenna was not properly installed. He said it didn't have Self-tapping screws to prevent it from moving and that was my problem for having poor to no signal for several months. Contacted Customer service several times about a refund for the months withough service and I was told I would get a free month of service, and when the problems kept persisting I was told I would get the second month of free service. Meanwhile, my bank account was still being charged and I never got my free months of service or refunds. I spoke with Vanessa and was told it was put in the computer for me to get a free month of service but was canceled. I then asked to speak with a manager and of course, there's never an answer so I Left multiple Voicemails for Laurie or Lori and never got a reply back. I am currently paying for 25mbs and I'm currently getting 3mbs and my upload speed is .38. I think that it's unfair for me to be paying for this service and not get what I'm paying for. The only thing is my job requires for me to be on call one week out of the month and this is the only somewhat reliable service I get when it works. Something needs to be done about this issue that keeps on happening and I would love to get my money back for bad to no service. read more

Rock Solid is a nightmare!!! They have all sorts of hidden fees. They tell you to check your invoice, that they have emailed you. They don't email you you have check your portal. SCAM by Rock Solid! I was told that I needed to allow them to draft my account they needed to prove I had an viable bank account. They drafted $50 with my permission and a week later they drafted $50 again for NO reason. Their Tech had come out and found that I am located where the signal is not strong enough because my trees impede the signal from their tower. They have refused to return one of the $50 payments. I have contacted them numerous times relating their mistake to the customer service people and supposedly my complaint is passed on to the billing department but then nothing ever happens. Lesson is that DO NOT pay them any money upfront!!! read more

UPDATE: Feb 2017. I got a call last week that the higher speed Internet was now available in my area, 25 MB. I scheduled a quick install. It delivers on the promise. I'm a very happy customer. This is now really fast Internet for a rural area. Customer has improved greatly over the years, very knowledgeable and responsive, installation engineers are all really good as well. You can't judge Rock Solid on previous reviews, they have consistently improved my service over the last 18 months. I'm really happy with the service, for my rural location, it's without question the best solution available for me. Initial Review: Let me start by saying I have been a Rock Solid Internet customer for 8 years. I'm a computer professional, I work out of my house, so I use the internet all day long. I know immediately when my internet goes down, and I use the internet in the evening as well, including streaming services such as NetFlix & Hulu. I also am a very demanding consumer, who wants & notices the highest quality picture possible while streaming. I'll admit that many of the reviews posted here about RSI quality of service are experiences I have had at one time, but it's no longer the case for me. Sometime in late 2015 I noticed service was good enough for me to stream Hulu content reliably, but not NetFlix. In early 2016 I found I could get NetFlix to also stream really consistent. I actually waited several months to be sure I was going to continue to see good service, before posting a review. My internet has been consistently up during the day and very fast. As with many other internet providers, it does slow a little bit in the early evening, when people get home from work & school. But it's entirely good enough for evening stream on NetFlix & Hulu, I honestly cannot remember the last time NetFlix or Hulu paused. read more

Rock solid is the last description I'd ever give this internet provider. Since switching over we have consistently had choppy service. It will work fine and then freeze for about 2-3 minutes. Most of the time that I have tried a speed test I get around 1.5 mbps download, even though we had paid for 15mbps. After speaking with EXTREMELY RUDE and UNCARING associates today they downgraded our $90 plan to the $65 plan that maxes out at 5mbps, because "they didn't feel right charging us for the higher plan that they all of the sudden can't provide". Only prob is that I AM STILL NOT EVEN GETTING 5mbps consistently. If you are considering switching over to Rock Solid DONT DO IT!! Now I will have to pay reconnect fees with my old provider to go back to good broadband. **UPDATE 3-10-13***Within an hour of writing the previous post, our internet was no longer able to access the website www.yelp.com. We were in disbelief that the provider would stoop to illegal activities by not only monitoring our internet activities, but blocking sites that he disapproved of. We wanted to be sure this was actually happening. To do this, we first check all of our regularly used websites, and they all worked properly. We then connected our other computer to our mobile verizon wireless broadband internet we that had purchased for use when we are out of town. We accessed the same websites on 2 different laptops, one on Rock Solid internet and one on Verizon Internet. All websites were full functional on both laptops, with the exception of www.yelp.com, which did not work on the laptop connected to Rock Solid Internet, but did work on the laptop connected to verizon wireless. We then switched the connection of the laptops to ensure there was no problem with either of them and the Rock Solid Connection still blocked www.yelp.com. The following error shows up after googling yelp and clicking on the link(which we have taken screen shots of as evidence): "404. That's an error. The requested URL /c/la/restaurants was not found on this server. That's all we know." When the address is directly typed, an immediate redirect to google.com is made. This initial event occurred just after we wrote our review, and today weeks later the www.yelp.com website is being blocked on rock solid's server still. I am extremely fearful of what access the owner of this UNETHICAL small business internet provider is having into our personal computers. I am certain that blocking access to any website is completely illegal and I not only take this as a threat, but as harassment. If anyone can direct me to the proper authorities that I should contact for legal action for this cyber attack on my family, I would be greatly appreciative! read more

This company used to be the best their was in the Bandera area. Now they are beyond horrible. Customer Service? Non existant. The foot has no clue what the hand is doing and after not calling back when you need them they will call you continously for weeks at least a month later. I guess it is how long it takes them to catch up with the back log of complaints. Technical Support? Really, you do realize that you are an idiot and they are Gods gift to the world. We have been loyal paying customers for three years. We've had good times and bad with them. Phone calls not responded to, repairs needing to be made on the equipment, and service technicians taking a week to come out and try to get your internet back up. Whatever you do don't call and complain. Complaining means you're not happy and if you aren't happy they won't say "what can we do to make our customer more satisfied? " Nope! Rock solids service is sub-par. Very slow, and several days a week, it doesn't work at all. They also stalk your subdivisions online forum that is supposed to be for our neighbors, and when one complains on their neighborhood forum to their neighbors (NOT to Rock Solid) they terminate your service AND then call you days later to tell you they have terminated you! They say they will give you a refund but from other neighbors who have been terminated because Rock Solid "wanted to," said refunds are slow coming! Save your money, don't get their internet, and KNOW for a fact that they have unethical and poor customer service! read more
