To paraphrase Oliver in Oliver Twist: please, Mr, Yelp, I want some more (stars). And what is it that makes the difference between needing 5 for my appropriate rating and needing many multiples of 5? It is this: a business that enables other businesses can help by doing what they are asked to do. E.g.: "Hey, buddy, fix this gadget for me, will ya?" Or, they can provide the gadget that will do what you tell them you need to do. Both of those are valuable services. But what if you 1) have no clue what gadget you need to do what you need to do and didn't know there was a gadget that'd do that and 2) have no clue how to operate that gadget once you get it and 3) only narrowly resist the temptation to throw this gadget down an elevator shaft when (OK OK because you are ever so slightly a knuckleheaded Luddite) you are using it improperly and--predictably--it is not overcoming your ineptitude while simultaneously delivering unto you the wondrousness of the 21st century? Huh, what then? Then, get a Tech Scout, the modern equivalent of the scout on the cattle drive: they spent their days (sometimes many days at a time) riding ahead, spotting the varietal dangers and reporting back about the promises and pitfalls on the horizon They alerted the trail boss to changes of terrain and learned to distinguish between the hostile and the friendly native inhabitants. They helped you to create the trail or the necessary variation on the trail, and often were the critical factor between getting the herd to market and getting a third of the herd to market. So: take your chances in the wilderness of the future if you're brave and capable. I'm glad to have a scout out front, helping the rest of us to know what's over the hill. SD Tech, responded very quickly to an ad I had put out needing a Website built, unfortunately gave huge pricing range. Meaning more than a two thousand dollar range, depending on my exact needs I responded within an hour yet was put off after asking for more accurate price after answering questions he had. As a business owner myself I would rather an honest price given up front quote, even if possibly on the higher side. I would recommend anyone looking to find someone who number one responds in a reasonable time and who can give an exact quote to check other designers. I'd rather the business put the estimated cost of blank services is two thousand, but may increase due to amount of work needed on an individual basis, but if the cost is going to exceed estimate will get approval before doing additional services with pricing listed. I was beginning to loose faith until I found a wonderful Web designer who did just that. I choose Aymie. She has been up front on pricing and services. She even suggested I look around Google for an idea on pricing and time lines. Using thumb tack was great and helped me choose the best designer for my needs. read more
