The only trouble is, we'll never go back. Like every other place that has gone cashless, our family stopped going to those places. Places should be offering more ways to pay, not less. Offer Bitcoin payments even. We were at a place this week that offered a discount for cash (like a lot of places in Europe) and it was so refreshing. I am a tough critic since I am from San Diego, home of the #1 Ice Cream shop in the Nation two years in a row. I walked in and the interior was very clean and clutter free behind the counter. The flavors were very plain w basic flavors. Nothing too exciting. I had a double of Pistachio and Coconut. The first thing I noticed was how small the scoops were!!! Tiny cup with tiny scoops. I did like the flavor of pistachio and it was packed with nuts. The coconut had very little flavor. It was so slight could barely taste the coconut. Disappointing. What I did notice was the soft creamy "stretchy" texture. This was truly unique but the flavors lacked. I am not sure if I would return myself, but for anyone who hasnt tried Booza, I do suggest you try it. Experience the texture and "stretchy" ice cream. The biggest issue is the price point! High price for the portion received!

There used to be one Cinnaholic in Austin, but sadly it closed down about a year or two ago. It was my favorite place to go to get cinnamon rolls. So you know that if I'm in the area of Houston, I have to make a stop. Lots of parking. I got the Biscoff cinnamon roll and my husband got the Irish coffee and cream cinnamon roll. I was a little bit underwhelmed with the Biscoff one to be honest. When I first cut into it, it was so thick and bready that I got confused for a second and said "um... where's the cinnamon? Is this just bread??" Eventually I DID get to the cinnamon part though. But that outer layer was all bread. Perhaps it was how bready it was or that I found the toppings slightly underwhelming but... yeah. Still yummy though but not my fav. My husbands though - his was amazing! But also incredibly rich. I saw a pic of a peach cobbler one of here and it looked phenomenal. Perhaps that'll be my next one. Regardless, we gobbled them both down and had no issues. Would def come back when in the area. You'd be surprised at the number of froyo or ice cream places that refuse to mix flavors, so I'm always happy when that's an available option. To the ice cream itself, it was exactly what I was looking for. Not too sweet or heavy, but still creamy with unique flavors. I ended up trying the lavender honey and was surprised that I could actually taste the floral notes of the lavender without it being overpowering. I paired it with an ube flavor, and thought it really hit the mark too. There was a steady stream of customers flowing through, from families to couples. Small place as expected of an ice cream shop, but still more than enough seating inside, and a nice covered area outside too.

There were a few flavors that sounded really good, but were too light on the bold flavor the ice cream was trying to show (for example, the big face coffee affogato and the mango sticky rice). Since Van Leeuwen Ice Cream stemmed from NYC and is known for its rich, velvety texture and double-egg based dairy ice cream, I expected more. However, the praline butter cake and earl grey tea flavors were tasty and enticing, though I settled for their strawberry matcha. That strawberry flavor was natural tasting and slightly tart yet sweet, while the matcha was creamy yet a bit earthy... a well balanced scoop! The sugar cone was nice and crispy and not overwhelmingly sweet. We dressed the praline butter cake scoop in a cup with a salted caramel drizzle, which was indulgent. The salted caramel drizzle was a bit overpowering the ice cream, but still a good combination. The menu is structured to serve ice cream by the single scoop ($6.95), double scoop ($8.25), or triple scoop ($9.25), so the more you get the better bang for your buck. It seems like a fancier ice cream experience overall as the prices are more than the typical shop around. Additionally, the ice cream can be served in a cup or a cone if you prefer, with sugar cones complimentary, but waffle cones come with a charge. There are 10+ vegan ice creams in store for those who would like dairy-free alternatives and a plethora of toppings like sauces, crumbles, and drizzles. There are also sundaes on their menu which are perfect for sharing or fine for oneself (if you please). I would say Van Leeuwen has some attractive flavors and good quality ice creams I'd love to come back for sometime.
