The wife and I went here with family while visiting NY. We enjoyed the beer, but the food left something to be desired. We ordered fried green tomatoes, which I liked, as an appetizer. I ordered the full rack of ribs. These are the dry rub type and the dry rub wasn't flavorful enough and there wasn't enough of it. The result was that the ribs were a little bland. This was a massive ambit of food that I couldn't finish at the restaurant. The wife had a combo with a half slab of ribs and Mac and cheese. She found the Mac and choose good, but had a complaint similar to mine about the ribs. She also said they were too fatty. The group ordered poutine to share. This was good, but not amazing. Service was good. read more

Let me give you one word, EXTRAORDINARY!! I didn't expect Troy, NY to know about BBQ, but the surprise was mine to be had!! The pulled pork melts in your mouth, the St. Louise ribs falls off the bone, and the brisket was so tender a baby could gum it and enjoy lol definitely a must have pit stop when I'm in New York always!! Thank you Karlene for making my brother and I's experience truly blessed and fun! read more

Great service the two times I went to Dinosaurs. Once the forgot the cornbread with the salad, that is my only complaint. They were very accommodating and even though busy, they were able to sit us quickly. Food is great for BBQ, and you get a great view of the river and Starbuck island. Parking is available, but call ahead if possible, it gets busy even on weekday evenings. read more

My food is pretty much never good and I heard they had a fire so that makes me not want to go back!

I was part of a large group. We ordered the nachos, deviled eggs, and fried green tomatoes. Platters included the pulled pork entree, sausage and brisket, and ribs. The appetizers were well received and for most the best part of the meal. The entrees were mixed and the overall consensus of the group were that they were disappointing. I really liked the brisket and shared it with my girlfriend who really really did not like her pulled pork sandwich because it was too salty. The ribs were received with a bit of a lackluster response. No one enjoyed the potato salad side. The Mac and cheese was the most polarizing side with half liking it a lot and half thinking it was gross. I ordered a old fashioned cocktail and it was... ok. The service was a mix as well. The server was having a bad day and I sympathized but it came across in her level of patience with folks. However, they were professional and brought out a new meal for my girlfriend who did not care for the pulled pork. The chef apologized which seemed above and beyond but was appreciated. Overall, it was a ok experience but not a memorable one where I would be itching to return. I felt a little bad that I recommended the place to be honest as this was my first time meeting my girlfriends family and I wanted them to have a good experience. read more

If I could give a negative 10 I would! Absolutely the worst. From DC on business trip drive 28 miles before going to airport to catch flight planned to get to go order.... Girl at check in says to go to another counter. Waited for my turn and as they are handing to go orders to other customers they refuse to place my order for one person because they are busy???? Appreciate someone contacting me. This is unbelievable read more

We went here for a Rehearsal dinner. It was a Buffett. We had pulled pork sandwiches, Mac and cheese, and salad. The pork could have had more sauce on it and the Mac and cheese was hot but could use something added for more taste. The servers were great, very nice and accommodating. Buffets aren't easy so I would like to go Back for their other choices chicken legs looked great! read more

Great family dining event!!! Yummy food - great service. They have amazing ribs, potato salad, etc.

Never had a bad meal at Dinosaur albeit this was my first visit to the Troy location. Previously I'd been to the Harlem and Brooklyn locations. Ribs are always my favorite meat. Collard greens are savory. Sweet potatoes are always one of favorite sides. First time to try the poutine which was yummy. read more

We picked up some Brisket Sandwiches to go from this place. The brisket was VERY good (but fatty), smokey, tender, and melt in your mouth. The sandwich buns were amazingly soft and fluffy and paired very well with the brisket with a slight and subtle sweetness. So delicious! We got sides of BBQ Beans and Coleslaw. The BBQ Beans were smokey and packed full of flavor. I definitely recommend them as a side option! The coleslaw was okay. The ladies at the to go counter were very friendly and helpful in recommending which sides to get as this was our first time here. We will definitely visit again if we are in the area. read more

Whenever I'm back in the Albany, NY area and I want good BBQ I know to stop here. Great ambiance near the water. Walkable to nice bars in Troy. Servers are quick. Food is always high quality. Great ribs. Great size I personally love the Mac and cheese as well as the bbq fried rice read more

Decent enough bbq, but not the best place I've eaten at. Pros: nachos are excellent, nice and spicy with plenty of jalapeños. Chicken sandwich also great. Sides of corn bread, mashed potatoes, spicy cucumber salad and Mac and cheese were good. Cons: brisket although moist was ok, ribs looked great but were very difficult to eat. Beans were ordinary and bbq rice was ok, but my wife said she'd smash them. Waitress and service was excellent. Would go back just change up some of our items. read more

They make some darn good smoked BBQ and tasty sides at Dinosaur BBQ! Our first visit to Troy and we're glad we stopped into Dinosaur BBQ for lunch. They apparently do a great lunch business on the weekends as there was a 20-30 minute wait. We happily found seats at the far end of the bar for immediate seating. The bartender/server was extremely pleasant and helpful pointing us to some of her favorites and providing feedback from other customers. We opted for Prime Brisket sandwiches with Spicy Cucumber Salad and BBQ Fried Rice as our sides. I noticed many other customers were carrying out to-go boxes and I could see why when we got our food. Portions are large! The brisket is a great sandwich topped with pickled onions & Jalapeños and the house sauce. The cucumber salad was delicious and had a tangy bite. The rice was good too but I'd probably try the mac and cheese. The folks next to us got the Creole Deviled Eggs. They seem pricey but they are loaded up and looked awesome. They seemed to enjoy them. Dinosaur has a creative menu and friendly staff which at the time (Jan 29) all wore masks. Located riverside, the restaurant has a great atmosphere and looks to have an awesome outdoor seating area when the weather permits. read more

This was our first time visiting this location. We've previously been to the one in Syracuse and had high expectations. We made a reservation online to avoid any wait. Upon arriving, we were quickly shown to a table with a nice view of the river. Our waitress recommended great lunch options. We ordered a 3/4 rack of ribs and the jerk salmon. Both came with 2 sides each. All together, it was a delicious and filling meal. Also, if you're a student at RPI, make sure to mention it to receive a student discount! read more

We had a great meal at Dinosaur BBQ, this weekend! We went to lunch during the farmer's market, on opening weekend. I expected the wait time to be crazy, and that it would be a nightmare finding parking. However, to my surprise, we were seated very quickly, and we even got to sit out on the patio. It was the perfect day to sit by the water and enjoy our meal! The service was good and the food was tasty. Not a bad Saturday afternoon! read more

Good BBQ, nice smoke flavor but they over seasoned most dishes. They use a lot of spices including on the Mac and cheese, don't recommend for people who don't like spicy food. Good portion sizes. Service was efficient, overall not a bad lunch. read more

My ribs were dry and the wings are burnt. The cashier who took my order was friendly, however I was so disappointed with the food. See the pic, no one should have to eat wings that look like this, and I drove 34 mins for this. read more

If there's a better BBQ in the Troy / Rensselaer County area - I've yet to hear about it. Consistently a decent meal. Creamy coleslaw, collard greens - the sides are ALL good. The corn bread is the best around. Saturday night and the wait for a table was under10 minutes. Great staff everywhere. Good stuff - EVERY time. read more

Sometimes a place just grows on you. Part of me is reluctant to give this regionally famous barbecue operator the full five stars, because people may come in with too high expectations. I think Josh S. said it well in that you have to come in expecting Northeast-style barbecue. Dino isn't perfect, but no place is. While I wish the brisket was fattier, the crust and smoke ring the meat develops in the pit, are seriously good. Personally I prefer full spare ribs, but the St. Louis style ribs are a textbook example of how ribs should be done. No, they don't fall off the bone. But with a gentle tug, the bone pulls cleanly from the meat, just like it's supposed to do. And even though my heart belongs to Cornell style chicken, the smoked birds here are one of my favorite things on the menu. The menu feels expensive. I'm not sure why. But values abound. The $70 family meal is an insane amount of food. I'm tempted to order it just as a solo diner, and bring home the leftovers to have food for the week. But my latest outing, I explored the new lunch menu, and I love how it provides a smaller portion of their pit-to-plate meats. With a side of sauteed dark leafy greens, it almost seems healthy. And at $12 it felt like a reasonable price for a sit down lunch. Can you get better brisket if you flew to Austin and stood in line for several hours? Sure. But sitting on the water with a view of the Hudson, and enjoying some smoked meaty delights is always a treat. Pair that with some good friends and great beer, and this is just about as good as it gets. read more

We ended up here on the recommendation of a student at RPI (thanks Ashley!). I had the bbq bowl- smoked meat (in my case brisket AND pulled pork) on a bed of whipped sweet potatoes, simmered greens and cornbread. All nestled next to it was a green salad- if you ask me, the salad was just there to make you feel a little less guilty about the BBQ. My dining companion had a pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese which had just enough cheese and just enough seasoning. I hadn't intended to get dessert, but had we abstained, we would have missed the VERY generous slice of peanut butter pie. It was divine. read more

A little late with this review but thought it was worth giving them a raving review. I visited Troy to see my daughter perform with the ASO. Fried tomatoes were excellent. read more

Hands down this is the BEST Dinosaur BBQ that I have been to. Amazing bbq. Hands down the best we've had. Great service and wonderful atmosphere on the Hudson!

Wings wings wings.... OMGOSH!! This is hands down the best wings I've ever had in my life. The devil's duel sauce is finger linkin good... I've been doing take out for wings here for the last 6months since I moved to the Albany area but even the couple of times we've dined-in, the food's been consistently good. Apart from wings I've tried the fried green tomatoes(least of my fav), deviled eggs (so good), jerk chicken sandwich (a bit sweet but good) ... always always get the sides... grilled corn, Mac and cheese, sweet potato mash, fries ...you just can't go wrong with any. Delicious food in a cool atmosphere. Sat at the bar and had great service. Wings, pulled pork slider, brisket slider. All luscious and perfectly smoky. The sides of slaw and potato salad were fresh and so perfectly seasoned, they didn't need salt or pepper. Add a couple of could drafts and we were in heaven. Great soundtrack playing too. As fold who have lives in the Carolinas, we'd recommend Dinosaur BBQ! read more

Went for lunch with a friend. He ordered a bbq chicken dinner and seemed to enjoy it. I ordered the brisket and pulled pork sliders with fried green tomatoes and coleslaw. The brisket slider was the only thing I finished. The rest was just not good. The fried green tomatoes tasted like something from the frozen food isle at the grocery store. The server was very sweet and prompt. I won't go back ! read more

BBQ joints are getting better and better at the slow proper process of smoked meats and I really like Dino. I've not been to the original Syracuse location and must get there in the future. Everything I had was awesome - brisket, wings slaw, collards. The food came out in a timely manner and the server was great - quick, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the food and what goes into the rubs. They have a huge space right on the river in Troy but get there early or be prepared to wait and fight over parking spaces haha. If there is one thing they could improve......some bourbon craft cocktails (just seems to go well with BBQ), and some diversity in their IPA drafts.....they have 3-4 on tap but they are all of the east coast hazy style. One West Coast style, or Bell's 2 Hearted, would fill the void. I'm just not a fan of the less hoppy east coast variety. read more
