The ribs were so juicy and tender they didn't even need sauce but I did drench them because why not? The brisket was full of smoky goodness. I'm glad I was referred here! Have been coming here for over a decade now and I never get sick of it. Definitely one of the best BBQ places in the capital region and is a must try if you are in town. The portions are very filling and high quality. My personal favorite is the brisket. I typically get it in a pick two platter, but tried it in a sandwich today and was very satisfied. It's been awhile since we have been here and boy are we glad we came! We ordered a rack of ribs as an appetizer and the Family Meal deal- we really wanted a lb of pulled port - What we didn't realize what we ordered came with Pulled pork AND 1/2 a rack of ribs And Chicken plus the 3 sides and cornbread!!! oh my goodness - A lot of extremely tasty food!!! Yum mashed potatoes with gravy- Sweet potato casserole (who needs dessert when you have this!!) mac and cheese ( teen wasn't crazy about the seasoned top but the Adults loved it - All the meats we're seasoned perfectly!! Best part is we have enough left over for lunch tomorrow!! You will not leave hungry! And as an added bonus- They have a to go window!! Hostesses were confused with regards to folks with reservations as we did. They were seating walk-ins ahead of reservations. We happened to be 30 mins early and asked to be seated early if possible. We were floored to see them seating walk-ins. As for the food, we both had the combo ribs and 1/2 chicken plus we paid extra for 2 extra ribs each. Our ribs were dry as was the chicken firm and dry. For being a BBQ restaurant they certainly did a poor job. Server was nice though. read more

Updated Review: Tried it again and the food was so much better than the last time. The boiled shrimp was absolutely delicious as was the dipping sauce, The catfish was also delicious and very flavorful and crispy. The cucumber side is spicy, crisp and delicious. The salad is very fresh. My husband had the fried rice side which was delicious. The cornbread was just right with a little sweetness. Great being able to add 2 ribs to the plate for a little extra - tender and flavorful. Excellent espresso martinis. So glad we gave it another try. Went here after a business meeting with a bunch of colleagues. I've lived in SC for about 20 years where they are very particular about their BBQ, and Dinosaur's food measured up well! I have the 3 meat combo with pork, 1/4 chicken, brisket, greens, and cucumber salad. I didn't like the cucumber salad too much, the dressing tasted like jar dressing and I didn't think there would be any on it (my fault for not asking first), everything else was outstanding. We also had the sliders as appetizers and I liked them a lot too. The start removed was for the service. The host was clueless (my colleague asked if the BBQ was tomato based and he had no idea what we were talking about, neither did the waitress), he got irritated when we picked a table to sit at rather than just sitting at the bar (we were there at lunch time and they didn't have enough servers for the tables yet), and it took a VERY long time to get our food and no one was eating anything that needed to be made fresh. Though the restaurants first location started in Syracuse NY, did you know the idea for this bikers bar started in the capital region? They have 6 locations throughout NY and had a location in Connecticut, and not sure why that was closed out. Their bar-b-que is nationally acclaimed with southern flavor. They were named the country's Number One BBQ on Good Morning America, have been featured on various Food Network, Travel Channel shows and National Association of BBQ. My go to dish here is the devil's duel chicken wings that are finger licking good. Devil's duel is their spiciest wing and it has the right blend of flavor and spice. We also ordered a fried green tomatoes, nachos, shroom-ben sandwich (Smoked portobello... veggie), full rack of ribs and 5 different sides. We probably over ordered with the intent of taking some stuff back home for lunch the next day. I was here at least once a month but the frequency has gone down between my frequent commutes between capital district and Connecticut. With this commute coming to an end, as the person in Connecticut was complaining that they went out shopping every day in holiday season but never went in a year and half while I was there. The so called person never planned to go as they were busy working 2 jobs till 8pm and trying to make money (but still blame me). I decided to let them do what they want to do and stuck to what I do best, eat, spicy food!! I've never had a bad meal at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. I had some special dietary needs and they were fully addressed to my satisfaction. This is often a bustling place. Remarkably, when we showed up about 3pm on Thursday, it was still busy but not as crowded as on weekends. Was it late lunch or early dinner? I have no idea, but my husband and I were hungry. Our server, Sierra, is flawless at her job. She immediately introduced herself and asked us what beverages we wished to drink. I went with her recommendations. My drink wasn't too sweet. She filled the orders quickly and then came to ask what we'd like to eat. She said the smoked chicken salad could be served without the tangy, BBQ sauce, which I can't eat. Honey mustard salad dressing on the side. Perfect. The food arrived very quickly. Sierra returned to make sure we were happy with our meals. There was so much food that I had leftovers for a delicious lunch the next day. The restaurant overlooks the River. The views can't be beat. I came with a party of 5, we were told it was a 30 to 45 minute wait but we got sat after 5 minutes. the food was very good and our waitress was very nice. it was very busy so the food took longer but when it came it was delicious. the cornbread is soooo good here! the vibes are great and you can just come for the bar or you can sit down at a table. the only downside is that some of the benches at the tables don't have backs on them so it can get uncomfortable sitting there for a while. overall a great experience! will return! read more

First off on a nice sunny day the view from inside faces the Hudson River and is quite nice! The inside is spacious, rustic and inviting. I was seated immediately and was there for a late lunch. Our server, Allison was very helpful as there were so many tasty sides to choose from on the menu. I was torn between the creamy coleslaw and their sweet and sour coleslaw. I went with the creamy as that is what i gravitate towards. Allison brought me a sample of the sweet and sour slaw to try and asked if I wanted to keep what I ordered or switch. I thought that was really nice of her. She went out of her way to ensure that I would enjoy my sides. So sweet! I loved the corn bread, both the creamy and sweet and sour coleslaw as well as the fantastic fries, bbq pulled pork, brisket and St. Louis ribs. I especially enjoyed the tasty well seasoned and tender fall off the bone ribs. It isn't something I would barbecue smoke in my own home, so definitely a treat when done right. The mac and cheese had a hint of cajun spice and was cheesy and creamy. I also like the greens and baked beans, yum! Also as you might have guessed from some of my other reviews, I am a condiment lover. I really really liked their house made original barbecue sauce, as well as their garlic chipotle pepper sauce. My roommate stop by there last week and offered to grab me some food. I wanted to try sampler of a sliders: Burger, a brisket, and a pulled pork along with a side of macaroni and cheese. it was packaged well. I took a bite of the macaroni and cheese and I breathed in chili powder and thought I was going to die. I just don't think chili powder is something you should top macaroni and cheese with without having it written out very well on your menu. I didn't see it when I went to the online menu. It was an overwhelming flavor and I can't eat chili's because I my stomach is cursed so I was very unhappy inhaling breathing in eating that first bite of chili powder. My other issue is at overwhelm the macaroni and cheese I don't even know what it tasted like. My roommate finish the macaroni and cheese and it he didn't seem to mind the chili powder. I really do miss being able to eat anything with Chili's in it. I didn't really care for the brisket slider or the pulled pork sandwich. It wasn't horrible I think I just didn't care for all the toppings they each had. I did have a hamburger slider and I thought that was really good. I wasn't so fond of the mustard sauce but it wasn't so spicy that it irritated my stomach. I think I would have preferred a different sauce or just plain ketchup. What I liked most about that burger is that they made it rare. When you get a hamburger it should be made rare if you want it rare. There are places that don't do that so when someone makes a rare Burger when I ask for a rare Burger I commend that. It really hit the spot. That burger was a five star but the rest for me one star which is why I'm giving it to stars. I haven't been to the Dinosaur Barbecue in a long time. I know it has a nice atmosphere. It's right on the river. I don't think I cared for the food the first time I went. If I ever go again because someone else wants to I will definitely be ordering the burger and I will definitely make sure that they don't put chili powder on anything I eat. read more

What a fun place with a chill vibe! I'm an out of towner who's a pescatarian and I greatly enjoyed the food. We picked up some Brisket Sandwiches to go from this place. The brisket was VERY good (but fatty), smokey, tender, and melt in your mouth. The sandwich buns were amazingly soft and fluffy and paired very well with the brisket with a slight and subtle sweetness. So delicious! We got sides of BBQ Beans and Coleslaw. The BBQ Beans were smokey and packed full of flavor. I definitely recommend them as a side option! The coleslaw was okay. Great service the two times I went to Dinosaurs. Once the forgot the cornbread with the salad, that is my only complaint. They were very accommodating and even though busy, they were able to sit us quickly. Food is great for BBQ, and you get a great view of the river and Starbuck island.
