A friend wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse for Father's Day. He'd been talking about it for months. Why Father's Day? I'm not entirely sure. I think many fathers have an idea of how they'd like to spend their special day. This particular dad (divorced) loves bbq. So we went. An adult son came along, too. I was not prepared for the spectacle. The large parking lot on Wolf Road in Colonie was very full. There was a line of people waiting outside. Some were standing while others were seated on cushioned benches. The management had pitched a tent at the front entrance where staff took care of check-in. I'd gone online before arriving and placed our party of three on the restaurant chain's online "waitlist" system. It sent me a text message telling us what time to arrive. We were right on time. The staff checked us in and ushered us inside. We were seated at a table within about five minutes. The restaurant doesn't take reservations but its waitlist system was remarkably efficient. Kudos to the staff for making it seem effortless. There were hundreds of people dining at the restaurant and yet we were greeted by three or four staffers who took our orders, checked on us repeatedly and kept bringing us refills of those deliciously warm bread rolls. Since this is most definitely a family restaurant--there are large monitors on the walls playing goofy videos and a tablet on each table with video games--to keep both children and adults occupied. In keeping with the Western theme there are longhorn window decorations and heads of bison, antelope, billy goats and deer on the walls. Our drinks were served almost immediately. I ordered a mocktail called passion fruit sparkler just in case I needed to be the designated driver. The entrees took a bit more time. With so many people to serve, we just had to be patient. So I played the games on the tablet. The server eventually arrived with my order of the beef tips in mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and cooked vegetables. The meal was hot and delicious. Everyone was happy with their meals. We were stuffed. I took half of my meal home. Who knew that Father's Day at the Texas Road House was a cultural event? A phenomenon of sorts. I'm still amazed how the staff made everything work so smoothly. With so many families to feed it could have ended up disastrous but it turned out to be just the opposite. I absolutely loved the atmosphere. I was visiting from out of town and came here with my friend and her son. Our server was great! I have some unique food allergies and between her and the cook, we were able to figure out what i could eat. I had the classic cheeseburger with a loaded baked potato. It was delicious! House salad came out before the meal, nice starter. Appetizers: It was a Mother's Day celebration so we did a few pickles, onion, breads. Great! Bread: Those buttered rolls, signature and irresistible. Annoying almost I'm trying to watch my girlish figure. Dinning Area: Very Large size, open concept. Plenty of seating! Not a huge country fan but I love the allure and the atmosphere. Prices: Relatively inexpensive but it is a steak house. 11 oz sirloin nice cut almost no fat, House salad, and green beans, buttered corn with an iced water. $42 for me...$140 with tip not bad at all! Parking: Large wrap around parking lot just off the main road. Plenty of parking. Bathrooms: Bathrooms were clean and large, well stocked. After a long while, I decided it was finally time to try Texas Roadhouse. With that being said, I ordered the Dallas filet with grilled shrimp and a baked potato. Given that, the Dallas filet was solid, but nothing special. To explain, I ordered the steak medium rare and thankfully it was. Also, the steak was tender, but it lacked flavor. It was a fine steak, but I've had better. Following that, the grilled shrimp was pretty tasty. To make clear, the shrimp was tender, seasoned, and had good flavor. This was the best part of the meal. Similarly, the baked potato was respectable. The potato tasted fresh and was cooked properly. It's hard to mess up a baked potato, but I've seen it happen before. This was our first visit to a Texas Roadhouse. We were using a gift card that we had received. So much to say, what an experience. Since they don't take reservations we needed to familiarize ourselves with their "waitlist" procedure. Online suggestions were to click on the "waitlist" link about one hour before you plan to eat. We figured they would not be very busy on a Monday, especially if we arrived by 5:30 p.m. The website for the Albany location indicated that the current wait time was between 5 and 15 minutes. After I clicked on the "waitlist" link and provided the requested information at about 4:30 p.m. I saw a text notification that I would receive a text message and an email confirming my addition to the "waitlist" and I would be expected to check in at the reception desk within 15 minutes of the assigned arrival time. The text confirmation arrived but I did not see any assigned arrival time. We left our home about 5 p.m. and arrived at the restaurant's parking lot at 5:20. I replied to their text, as requested, informing them that we had arrived. We were instructed to head directly to the hostess's station. We gave our name to the hostess and were informed that it would be about 5 minutes before we would be seated. At this point there were many people in the entranceway of the restaurant waiting to be seated. They were being told that their wait would be about 30 minutes. We were seated within 5 minutes. The staff person who showed us to our table (booth) was already carrying a basket of hot rolls and butter for us. It was only a couple of minutes before our server arrived to request if we were ready to place a drink and appetizer order. My wife requested a bottle of Saratoga water while I chose a pint of Fiddlehead IPA ($4) from the half-dozen drafts available. When my IPA was delivered our server informed my wife that they did not have Saratoga water but could provide club soda. My wife agreed to the club soda, and I didn't see it included on our bill at the end of the evening. We were intrigued with the Rattlesnake Bites ($8.99) as an appetizer - diced jalapeño and jack cheese rolled into balls, breaded, and deep fried for dipping in Cajun or Ranch sauce. They were tasty, but definitely not spicy. We preferred the Cajun sauce over the Ranch. Entrées are served with a choice of two sides. My wife chose a house salad and steak fries to be served with her 6 oz. Dallas Filet ($24.99). Her salad was served first while her steak and fries were held until my dinner of Double Grilled Pork Chops ($18.99) was served. It seemed like a long time passed between her salad and when our diners arrived, but since we were only in the restaurant a total of 75 minutes I can't really say that service was slow. What I can say is that the noise level is very loud. While country music is constantly blaring, it seems that about every half hour on the quarter-hour an extra loud song comes on that signals the staff to perform a line-dance in between the rows of booths. Any birthday is celebrated with having the customers yell YAHOO in unison. My wife's salad was average. Her filet was grilled to a beautiful medium rare as requested and was tender and tasty. The steak fries were quite salty. She had also ordered Sauteed Mushrooms ($3.49) which I couldn't find on our bill unless it was the SD Smothered for $2.29. My Grilled Pork Chops had what must be their signature perfect grill markings. I chose the double portion since it was only $3 more than a single portion. I was already planning on taking one chop home. The chop was tender, moist, and salty, but not as salty as the steak fries I requested. My second side of Fresh Vegetables consisted of sliced carrots and mushy, overly steamed broccoli. Overall, the food is OK. Staff are friendly and efficient. Customers waiting to be seated as we were leaving were being told it would be about 75 minutes. This is not an experience, however, that we are looking to repeat any time soon. Once I got home I saw that an email had been sent about 2 minutes after I had submitted my "waitlist" application. It said they expected me to check-in in the next 3 minutes. read more

Our server had that southern hospitality dialed in -- called me "hon," kept the iced tea flowing like a busted fire hydrant, and didn't flinch when we asked for 3 baskets of rolls before ordering. Texas-sized portions too. I ordered the ribeye and it came out looking like it bench-pressed other steaks at the gym. Cooked perfectly, juicy as a soap opera, and seasoned like someone's cowboy grandpa was whispering secrets into the grill. Final Thoughts: Texas Roadhouse ain't just a dinner -- it's an event. Loud, fun, messy, and full of heartburn in the best way possible. Come hungry, leave full, and maybe a little bit emotionally scarred if it's your birthday. Pro tip: Don't skip the saddle ride. Service is very slow. If you get seated in certain areas it's difficult to get your waiter or server. Environment is what you'd expect of a texas roadhouse. I'm going to start with it's my fault for not asking for a different table before being seated. We were seated on the far end of the place, when we got there the first thing I noticed was that each of the 3 booths had an additional table and seated at each of these tables were 8 individuals. Yes, there were children at the table, screaming children, uncontrollable children that were throwing food on the ground and parents that couldn't care less. I understand there's nothing TRH could do about that, but you don't seat 2 seniors next to that and expect a good review. So my next complaint is about my $24 sirloin gristle filled steak! Absolutely disgusting. Every bite had gristle in it, the worst steak I've ever had. The only good thing was our waitress was a sweetheart and her service was excellent. Popped in after a local football game to grab a couple of drinks and some apps. Didn't even smell like a steakhouse. Some of the meat was oxidizing and discolored in the case. Food was ordered and it was disgusting. Ordered combo appetizers that came to the table warm with undercooked chicken bites. Everything was too salty. Sunday is probably not a good day to go there. Got there at opening. Still took at least 45 minutes to get our meals. People that came in 20 minutes after us were served before us. We had to ask where our food was. Server brought my appetizer but not the other guest's salad. She had to go find someone to get it as we couldn't find the waitress. Mozzarella sticks were OK. dipping sauce is too chunky to dip in. Never saw dipping sauce come like that. Some simple marinara would have been good. Won't order those again. Beef tips were OK...little bit tough. Other guest's steak was good and cooked the way she wanted it. Kept pushing dishes to the edge of table so they could take them away. That didn't happen either. Id be lying if I told you that I expected a very high quality steak from a chain restaurant. This place broke my expectations. I was baffled to see how long the wait time was for me and my fiancé to get a seat. But we craved steak and this was in our list of places to try so we waited. Needless to say, the wait was worth it. The service was exceptional from our waitress and the food was amazing! We both got Ribeye with mashed potato and fries on the side. We put some cajun on our fries and it hit the spot. The free bread they give you for appetizers was delicious. The steak was also a perfect medium rare and was juicy. The mashed potatoes were creamy went really well with the steak. All I can say is Yum! We had fabulous cocktails at the bar, including a sangria margarita and a mango margarita. Both were enormous, and bursting with flavor. Then, we moved on to a table! I ordered the 14 ounce prime rib with a loaded baked potato and salad. My daughter ordered a filet mignon with steak fries, my nephew got a ribeye and we also ordered boneless , buffalo wings. My prime rib was so tender and perfectly cooked medium rare. Loved it! I also adored my loaded baked potato that had nice sea salt crystals on the outside and bacon cheddar sour cream on the inside. Overall just a good experience. We put ourselves on the waitlist when we left our home which shortened the wait time significantly. Kolby waited 5 minutes after we got there. My son graduated high school and this is where he picked. We came with a crew too! There was 8 of us in total. To start the rolls and butter are super good! We started with mozz sticks which they gave some good ones. They're not the standard they are twisted and are nice and light. We also had the blooming fried onion which is always one of my favorites! I had the fried country steak with white gravy and a loaded potato. We had steaks chicken dishes and all were good. Our service was great too. A nice young lady who was very attentive and responsive. Ordered off their early menu. For $11.99 get to choose from a decent selection of entrees. Since I was saving on the entree, I ordered the appetizer sampler for my friend and I to share A previous reviewer said it wasn't good, and neither was mine! The sampler is the only food item I've ordered at Texas Roadhouse that I did not enjoy, and in my opinion is really not good! Man this place was on point tonight. My boyfriend and I did date night and it was his turn to pick. I was beyond happy. We started off with a strawberry porch picker. We have been here several times. Service is good... wait staff is friendly...call ahead seating is always a good idea. We have ordered several of the appetizers and liked them all. I've been here a few times, it is OK - nothing fantastic. I like the peanuts, I like anywhere you can get free peanuts actually. At TRH, you can eat shelled peanuts and non-nonchalantly toss the shells on the floor, or you can put them in a bucket on your table if that's not your thing. The drink list/beer menu is super basic chain restaurant style. Domestic beers, maybe one IPA like Lagunitas, huge margaritas and sweet drinks. I usually come here for lunch and have gotten the same thing a few times, the Steak Kabobs. I enjoy this meal a lot. You get a choice of two sides with the meal. I choose a starter salad, and theirs is good, comes with crumbled egg and cheese, great with blue cheese. Then the kabob comes as you order it (i get rare). Its a decent cut of steak, grilled with peppers and onions kabob style, served over some tasty rice. Best of all, its $12 for this dish. Its a no brainer, good value. Probably the worst TR we've ever been. My steak was returned four times because it wasn't cooked correctly. Also, my sides were also incorrect and also cold, and our waitress was MIA throughout the entire meal - She took our order and completely disappeared and never checked on us. The MOD was great, he came to our table and personally had my meal corrected, the forth time and then removed it from the bill. Steak was cooked almost correctly as one end was twice as thick-was barely rare as the the end that was thinner was cooked as ordered-medium rare.
