The place smells strongly of chlorine upon walking in - I guess that's a "clean" smell rather than otherwise... but it's weird. I like smelling coffee when walking into a coffee store, or sugar in a donut place, or tea in a tea house. It was towards the end of the day, so maybe they were cleaning up. My first experience at a boba house, I always get the very basic milk tea with boba. Based on previous experiences, I usually start with half ice and half sugar, and that always hits my tastebuds right. Ding did it for me - very strong in the very basic. Ding Tea is one of my favorite bubble tea places in East Lansing. The Signature Milk Tea, which is black milk tea, is good and is typically my go to drink. The Jasmine Milk Tea is also good. Ding Tea allows you to adjust the amount of sugar in your drink and offers two sizes. The prices are similar to other bubble tea places but they do tend to put more ice than other places. They have a lot of toppings to choose from but the downside is they don't offer the traditional boba. They offer the golden boba but it's not as soft as traditional boba. read more

Ding Tea --- the new way to my heart. The anticipation of Ding Tea has skyrocketed ever since I heard of a new bubble tea place under construction. Its located right next to Korea House, which is about a 10 minute drive from MSU campus, or you could take a bus straight to that plaza. Upon entering the newly opened business, we(my brother and I) noticed that the interior is decorated beautifully; its aesthetically pleasing and good for foodies to have a nice background for our photos. Behind the counter, you can see how passionate and the effort they put into to create this delicious concoction. We both ordered the signature milk tea and it didn't take long for us to receive it. The first sip brought me into another world. The tea was not too strong nor too subtle, and the sweetness level was almost perfect. There is something unique about the flavor of the signature milk tea. Its almost as if it has a slight honey taste incorporated into the drink, which I LOVE. On the otherhand, the tapioca pearls that I got were inconsistent in chewiness. There were a few that weren't cooked all the way through, and then there were some that was too soft. In addition to that, I wish that they had the black tapioca pearls, but its mainly for the aesthetic purposes(and I dont know why but they taste better in my opinion). Overall, I would definitely come back to Ding Tea. I will say that this is the best bubble tea place in all of Michigan and I recommend going at least once to try it out. read more

Solid bubble tea. The milk tea wasn't too sweet, and the tapioca was just the right consistency of chewiness. Ordering was pretty easy and straightforward. The employees worked fast. I was so happy to find out there is a Ding Tea around here. We moved from Southern California to Michigan and I was so sad because Orange County has a ton of Boba shops so this is the next best thing I can get. I have ordered a bunch of different drinks at a different location and they are no different here. The only thing they don't offer is food at this location which is kind of a bummer. You can't really mess up boba so I was happy they passed the test. I usually like to order online and then pick up because the shop can get pretty busy. By the time I get to the shop for pick up it is ready to go. One thing that is different are the prices. A large size drink here is about a dollar more expensive than a large size drink in California (which I think should be the opposite). This shop doesn't offer a point rewards system. Will be coming here whenever I get cravings for boba. read more

Ding Tea is a worldwide chain and has presence in California as well :) I have visited at least 3-4 times and each time has been a pleasant experience. Ding Tea EL recently opened in winter, December 2018 (?) next to Greyhound/bus Transportation Station in the west side of MSU campus. Location is super ideal as I always swing by to grab a boba when I take the Greyhound back to Grand Rapids haha! DT is situated in a food/business plaza next to Korea House and other restaurants/markets. It's a good compliment with aplenty parking. Inside, the ambiance is bright and cute. They have two striking walls-- a green plant covering and a rainbow wing mural. Typical but cute nonetheless. Over time, they've added more tables and chairs to accommodate for more customers. Hoping they'll nail down a perfect feng shui setting for their indoor arrangement. Otherwise, better to take boba to-go. Staff is young and friendly. They're accommodating and knowledgeable, but wait time is still slow due to training. There are a few familiar faces that I guess are the managers/owners. Menu is pretty extensive with a good variety of drinks- teas, milk teas, smoothies, etc. Toppings are standard...but there is NO BLACK HONEY BOBA!!! I was shook. They have golden boba which is a little bit softer and not as chewy. I am not sure if it is still made of tapioca but it is different from agar white pearls (high fiber seaweed). Highly recommend: hot signature black milk tea, iced oolong milk tea, Hokkaido oolong milk tea, Thai tea with your desired topping. Prices are reasonable, but a bit pricey for EL! Perfect place to catch up with a friend. The highlight of the place of course are the drinks. I tried one of the recommended teas, the classic taro milk tea, and I loved it. First time coming here my reaction was wow no line. The decor of the wings is Instagram worthy. The menu is pretty large. I got the taro latte with boba. Taste was 4/5 with enough of sweetness. I got their large signature bubble tea, large, 1/2 sugar and their bubble is gold color unlike black or rainbow color like other bubble shops. Like Kung Fu Tea, they charge you for the small, then when you order large, you get upcharged. Ordering took some time since this was my first time. After paying we waited... they don't have the shaker machines here, they hand shake all their drinks, whereas Kung Fu Tea has those machines that does the shaking for you. As we waited, they called out order numbers, but I never got an order number or a receipt... so I just waited until the folks in front me grabbed their drink, then went up and just happened to see my name on the order printout. So how was it? even though I got it 1/2 sweet, it was still on the sweet side. However, they do give you a lot of ice, so as the ice melts, it dilutes the sweetness. As for the taste, it was decent - not on the same level as the bubble tea in Taiwan of course, but it was decent. I hate to say it, but I had better bubble tea at other locations, however I'll be back to try their other offerings. Since they don't have sake machines, this is going to be the bottle neck in their operation... when they are busy, you are going to have folks in the back shaking those drinks like mad dogs lol... I hope they invest in those machines :) Its good to see this side of town with a bubble tea shop, as others are all concentrated on the other side of the campus or on grand river. read more

Loved the interior design of the location! It's on the outskirts of MSU by the highway exit, so the location is prime. I ordered the honey milk tea with coconut jellies and jasmine green tea with boba. The honey milk tea was very very sweet. It seems like too much honey or sugar was added. The coconut jellies rests in lychee juice so it's a great topping to add. The jasmine green tea was better. I'd prefer the bobas to have more flavor, they seem pretty bland. It was a good consistency to chew on though. This was a borderline 3/4 star bubble tea shop, but I'm glad that the workers stopped and had a conversation with us. His extra effort to make our experience more involved help make this a 4 star boba shop! I can see them doing great things in the future for the community! read more

The people running this place are extremely racist. On multiple occasions I have watched as they make black people wait so that they can serve Asians and white people first. They will take your order, take your money, and then leave you standing there for 30 to 45 minutes every time while whites and Asians come in, order, and are served long before you.
