The staff is friendly and the place is relaxed about the rules which is the only reason they got two stars. I went here for my birthday with a few friends and ordered some drinks. My friend ordered an old fashion which looked good and he only paid $12 for it. I decided to get one myself and I was charged $14 for the same drink. We left and went to Benihana's across the street for some food and decided to go back to the bar. When we returned I was charged $16 for the same drink (old-fashioned). The karaoke was a joke. They picked who was next VS going in order. I paid $5 for two songs (which is a joke because the artist isn't seeing a dime) and I only got one song. I won't go back unless my friends really want to. And when I do I'll be sure to bring up the pricing. read more

The owners are very nice and friendly. We did karaoke and they gave us a deal on that. We noticed four separate groups of people coming in. 2 pax, 4 pax etc. every group came for only one drink and left. The prices are waaaay to high. I drink all over SF, from Cocktail bars, to wine bars and dives.. this is without a doubt over priced. I guarantee If they lower their prices they will have much more people drinking here. This place has previously been shut down by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for charging customers extra without customers knowing about it (do a Google search). I didn't know any of this before going in one evening and spending 45 minutes here and having four drinks. The cost? $99. For. Four. Drinks. When I saw the bill, I knew it was a mistake immediately and told the very drunk 60 year old, Asian female bartender, who I assume was the manager or owner. The karaoke DJ, male, Asian, 60s, very nice - maybe the other manager/owner - noticed and apologized for the mistake. He was sitting next to me the whole time in a bar with four people in it, so I'm sure he knew how many drinks I had, particularly since we talked to each other throughout the night. After apologizing, he offered to buy me a shot, which I accepted. They corrected the bill and I still left a $10 tip on the four drinks. When I got my credit card statement, I found out they had still charged me the $99. Read the other reviews here. This place is disreputable and has a long history of shady practices and overcharging. Hear me people. I think sometimes bars get a little rowdy and accidents happen, but when they continually happen all night long it becomes a trend of rude disrespectful and unfair behavior. Dimples did a horrible job of treating us with kindness and inevitably shamed us for accidents they made. 1) we ordered two songs and paid to do karaoke. When the 2nd song came up the person inputting the songs put in our 2nd outlast song incorrectly we assumed she made a mistake an politely continued to sing the song anyways. In the middle of our song she came up and shamed us for stealing others songs and blamed us for a mistake she made. Even after when I went back and confirmed on the paper that there were two songs and she input them wrong she blamed me for stealing the song and refused to either give me my money back or just allow me to play another song for free. Instead she doubled down and said we weren't allowed to sing again. 2) at the end of the night my buddy went to go close out his tab. They apparently didn't have a tab or his credit card so we left. But little did we know l, the next day they charged us twice for that tab and doubled down on it. This is a shadey establishment with less than ethical or even fair practices. The bar was a little quiet and dead when my friends and I went, but I guess it's a fine place to start the night and have a small chat. I had the Apple Martini, which was actually decently made, although it probably needed a little bit more apple liquor or some kind of apple flavor. Divey Korean bar in Japantown Came here with a friend the other day. I've walked by the bright neon storefront sign countless times, but it's only now that I've actually had a chance to visit. Inside, the place was actually much smaller than I had thought. When you go down the stairs, you'll see a table which is usually occupied by customers who want to sit down and smoke near the outside. When you walk even further in, you'll see the actual bar area, with some couches etc. Usually the place is not packed at all. There is some background music, and the waitress is pretty cute. In terms of the drinks, they seem to lack basic things like fruit juices for cocktails from time to time, but other than that the drinks are not bad. Overall, if you walk in, expect a divey bar with not a lot of people in it. If you want to find a quiet place after a long day of work to chill out and sip some alcohol, then this is a good place to go. read more

It is a fun place to be after you have a nice dinner in Japan town. The DJ is fun and professional. Even though it costs $5 for singing 2 songs ($3 for 1 song), it is still worthy. The sound system is nice. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars for my review because they allowed people to smoke by the entrance where there is a sofa and table. My two guests were very bothered by the cigarette smoke and we had to end our party for the night because of that reason. read more

I really never write Yelp reviews but I just really felt compelled to share this so that hopefully it can help warn other people reading. So, I went to Dimples last night for karaoke --we had a private room and were singing in there all night and were honestly having a great time. After about 1AM, we noticed no one was in the main karaoke lounge area so we decided to go there to sing --I just left my stuff in our private room since it was only about 10 feet away. I then noticed this lady (who I think is the owner) go into our private room while we were singing in the main lounge but I didn't think anything of it. After I was done singing, I went back into the private room and magically, my button-down shirt and jacket that I'd left on the couch were nowhere to be found. I then asked that lady if she saw my stuff in there and she weirdly snapped at me. In my head, I was like "what the hell was that?" but I just kind of ignored it. I then asked my friend if she saw my stuff and she was like "I haven't but right now, they're trying to double charge us --I think this place is a bit sketchy". At that point, I was getting a bit suspicious because I'd looked everywhere for my stuff (the private room, the lounge, the bathroom, inside my car, etc.) even though I knew it never left the private room. Then after that same lady finished yelling at all my friends over the bill, she snuck into this other separate room --she was about to close the door but I quickly intercepted and walked in and there on the couch, next to PILES of other random clothes, laid my button-down shirt and jacket. She tried to stop me but I quickly grabbed them and of course she started yelling at me again. She was like "stop! You can't take that! What are you doing?" and I was like "these are MY clothes! What are they doing in here?!?" and then she was like "do you really think I'm that desperate that I would try to steal from you?" and I was like "well why would you take my clothes and then when I asked you where they were, get angry at me for no reason/tell me that you didn't have them and then sneak off and hide them in this random room?" After that, she weirdly said "how do you know they are yours?" and I was like "BECAUSE I WALKED IN WEARING THEM. I LITERALLY HAVE PICTURES ON MY PHONE FROM TODAY OF ME WEARING THEM" --and the whole time, I kid you not, she kept trying to grab for my clothes in my hands. You can't make this stuff up. Anyway, at this point the other employees working in the lounge were like "I'm so sorry, she's really drunk". And I was like "what is going on? Why did she try to steal my clothes? What was that random room full of other people's clothes?" Anyway, I do wish I didn't have to give this place a 1 star because the karaoke was actually fun but my god that was absolutely awful. Fun atmosphere and decent drinks, but we also experienced the pricing shenanigans that others have experienced. Our bill was inexplicably high when it came, and after arguing briefly and to no avail with the bartender (who seemed to be running the show), we paid the bill and left. We chalked it up to the price of not paying attention to Yelp reviews. I just looked at my credit card statement and noticed that in addition to the outrageous pricing tomfoolery, they added a much more generous tip to the final amount than I left. After months of begging my girlfriend, she finally agreed to go to Dimples with me. It was pretty much what I expected. Divey basement karaoke bar with tons of interesting characters. Given the overall quality of the place, I would have expected drinks to be more affordable. They were pretty pricey all things considered. Bottom line: don't go here if you're looking for classy drinks as part of an important date. But if you're trying to get drunk and have an interesting night, Dimples isn't a bad option. read more

Long story short - owner is hella rude Now here's for those who wants to know the long story - My friends and I came here after a nice dinner and ordered multiple rounds of alcohol, we were probably drinking the most out of everyone there. We were having fun and listening to people sing karaoke and singing along until at the end of our night, one of my friend asked for water and got scolded by the owner. She said to my friend "this is a bar, we do not sell water, if you are not going to drink, get out of my bar!" She has the audacity to not only accuse us of "squatting" at our table but basically THREATENING to kick us out because she thinks we aren't drinking enough... Then she got the nerve to go on the mic at the karaoke and ANNOUNCES to everyone at the bar that if anyone who isn't drinking and just sitting there, needs to get a drink or they should get out because there are people waiting. WHEN THERES NO ONE WAITING! That completely ruined our night and I will say that I am never coming back again and I recommend anyone of you that's reading this review to never step foot at that place unless you want to have a bad time. I worked in the bar and restaurant industries for YEARS and have never witness such bizarre rudeness.. I never leave a bad review even if the service was bad because I been in their shoes, but this has just gone TOO FAR. Dimples??! This should be called pimples. Basically butt pimples cause it's the last place I wanna touch. To be honest we were having a great time at this place at first. We decided to come to this place after dinner and we thought it was pretty good. We had about five rounds of drinks while we sat back and enjoyed the amazing karaoke of one customer. However, everything turned to shit when my girlfriend started asked for some water because we needed to sober up for our drive back home. The old lady who was the owner mistaken our table for the table behind us (who wasn't drinking) and told my girlfriend "no this is a bar and we don't give water! Either order drinks or leave!" Out of confusion my girl asked to purchase water and once again the bar owner yells at my girlfriend to order alcohol. Well excuse me but we spent a lot of money at your establishment. Spent my Friday evening here with a few of my girlfriends and I had an overall decent experience. Pros: great cocktails (I was ordering old fashions throughout the night), the bartenders provided great service (very friendly and professional), the price to sing 2 songs for $5, staff quickly clean and clear off tables, and they have 1 private karaoke room if your party prefers that over signing on stage in front of the entire bar. The bar is decently sized and there is seating at the bar and around the karaoke stage. Cons: toward the end of the evening a staff member (I'm assuming it was one of the owners) was yelling at a customer about something they did that he didn't appreciate. I thought this was unprofessional and it definitely made everyone else in the bar uncomfortable ( also taking into consideration it was right around closing hour and it is a bar). Dimples makes me wish I lived in Japantown so I could be a regular here. Walking down those stairs and into Dimples is like walking into a scene from "Lost in Translation". The bar itself is manned by friendly chain-smoking asian ladies and has some awesome lighting. Across from the bar there are several comfortable lounge booths with mirrors surrounding them, and then there are several karaoke(?) rooms in the back. When I went all beers, from bud to heineken, were $5. Glenlivet was $8. While it's not the cheapest place, the atmosphere makes it completely worth it. read more

Dimples is an average karaoke establishment. The song list is not frequently updated so the most recent songs are mostly from before 2010. Although I love to sing songs from my high school years, I also like to sing songs that are currently on the radio, as I remember their lyrics better. The karaoke rooms fit a party of 5-8 well and have a mirror that you can use to sing towards your audience -- your friends -- rather than sing towards the screen. The size and the fact that two microphones were available was definitely a plus. I wished they had an easier song selection device. The keyboard for the device was in Korean and didn't shift to English as easily as the staff had indicated. There were quite a few songs we accidentally selected that were in Korean. Also, if you are asthmatic, a word of caution; the entrance and exit to Dimples after heading down the stairs has a huge table for smokers. I had to inhale smoke on the way in and out, which made me cough a lot. read more

I came here a couple times with friends. Apparently, this is their chill spot. They knew all the bartenders and owner. I liked it b/c it's sorta hidden, you have to go downstairs (below street level) and it's like a world of it's own. It's a bar/lounge, so it's kinda got that dark setting to it. The bar tend to get filled with regulars that go there...seats about ten of them. We usually sit at the tables, service was good...since my friend knew them, they hooked us up with fruit platters. There isn't really much to do here. It's a chill environment where you just enjoy the company of your friends. They have dices available upon request. The first time we went there, knowing it was a Korean bar and I LOVE flavored soju....it was something I HAVE to order. The way we drink soju is by pitchers, we can go through like eight pitchers of them in a night at Hues in Santa Clara. But this was the first time we have soju here, so we only ordered a pitcher of strawberry to start with, and let's say that was it. It was too sweet and thick, not much soju to it. It was like if I was drinking strawberry juice. Kinda disappointed about that. I'll just stick to beer. The second time we went was for a friend's bday party...we went to there REALLY HIDDEN section towards the back for their private karaoke rooms. Consistently, the service was great...they offered came in to check on us and if we needed anything, the bar was right outside and we can order directly from the bartender there. The karaoke system is cool, there was a point system that comes up at the end. The songs were mediocre, it wasn't the newest but definitely not the oldest. There actually songs we were surprised we found there. We had total privacy, so it got really fun. One though is that they can sure use a better wall insulation, b/c we can hear pretty clearly what the ppl in the room next to us were singing when we weren't singing. Not bad though. Like i said, I like this place b/c it's hidden and not as crowd as loud as Playground upstairs. Will be back :) read more
