Was craving some wonton soup and didn't want to go all the way to Chinatown, so stopped by here. When you enter, you can order at the kiosk. You walk down the hall and are able to sit yourself wherever you please. Now for the food: - For sides/apps, I got the scallion pancake and shrimp rolls. Both were 4/5. I wish the scallion pancakes tasted a bit more fresh but both had good flavor. - I would give the wonton soup a 2/5 - the broth lacked flavor. Because of this, the noodles also didn't have flavor. The wonton had shrimp in them, and I also think that it could have used a bit more flavor. - I got the roasted pork which I really enjoyed. Full of flavor, not dry at all. I would recommend getting this.
Looking for the best deal on Uber Eats came across this place. Buy One Get One FREE! Since free is my middle name I went with it. I ordered the Pork with rice. Packaged in deep bowls my food was hot upon arrival. Utensils came with it including some chopstick. I wish they would've threw in some condiments like soy and or duck sauce even some hot sauce or chilli pepper. But whatever, the food was good without it. It was strips of pork belly, a huge portion of white rice and baby buck choy. Very tasty and I had enough food for lunch at work for 2 days. Can't beat that!
A great place to grab some dinner before the show or after since they open until late. You order on the kiosk and then pick a seat in the back. You can pick any available space to sit. It's quite spacious back there. They will call your number to pick up the food. They have a screen in the back with the order number being called. They have a condiment station with chili oil, soy sauce, sriracha. The chopsticks, forks, spoons are in the drawers. You clean up after yourself when you finish eating since it's self-serve. I like their wonton and beef stew noodle soups. It comes with fresh green vegetables. Very tasty. They have rice rolls. I got the shrimp rice roll. That was very good. It came with fresh green vegetables also, a plus. They also have congee. It has small bits of meat in it, but it's still very good congee base and satisfies cravings. You have to ask for white pepper at the front register. I didn't see it at the condiment station. As a snack or part of the combo, they have egg tarts. That was just ok. I'm too full to also eat that with the meal anyways. For drinks, the HK milk tea, especially the hot one, is very good. I got it without sugar. Their soy milk and iced lemon tea is also very good. Congee or rice roll with a drink is great for breakfast or late meal since they open early 8am and close late midnight in the W40th theater area. Very solid place to grab some food.
This is like a Chinese mcdonalds! Quick mediocre food for a good price. The best dish was the roasted chicken leg. The you tiao was bland and a little cold. The soup dumplings were ok. The BBQ bun didn't have a lot of meat. The scallion pancakes are kind of bland.
Nice and clean inside with plenty of seating in the back. They have dim sum as well as your standard Chinese bbq items like roast duck, roast pork, and cha siu. I guess the prices are normal for NYC... meaning high vs most other places. Having grown up in LA around good dim sum and being lucky enough to try dim sum across Asia I'd say the food here is average.
BLUF: Don't order the dim-sum. Our first visit to Dim Sum Sam 金滿庭 in Midtown could have went better. One trick to having a good meal at an unfamiliar restaurant is to attempt to observe most other people are having before placing one's order. In this case, we should have observed that most customers during our visit seemed to order noodles and noodle soups, not dim sum. The ordering process follows a fast-casual format -- order at the counter or at one of the two kiosks next to the counter. Then get a seat, wait for your number to be called (in Mandarin and English), and pick up your order at the counter. We ordered two things to start, but were glad we left it at that. The dim sum here could have been better, especially considering the price. - Minced Beef Rice Noodle Roll 牛肉腸粉: $6.50; $7.08 with tax. Yuck. A not fresh, fishy 腥 odor / taste. - Shu Mai 燒賣: $7.75; $8.44 with tax. Meh. Factory-made, relatively small, lean. Seating is cafeteria style. Condiments, plastic cutlery and disposable wooden chopsticks are available at a centrally located table in the seating area. The seating area is brightly lit and very clean. There is a well-maintained unisex restroom with ADA grab bars -- request the key from counter staff.
The restaurant is clean, spacious, and bright, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal after exploring Midtown. The dim sum and Hong Kong-style roasted dishes are quite tasty, with a good variety, decent portions, and reasonable prices for New York.
Love this new spot in the city. I'm always craving Hong Kong food and this spot opening up by my gym is a life saver. Their congee is probably my favorite thing. It has lots of pieces of century egg and pork. If you're not into ginger, you can pick it out. Hong Kong milk tea is a staple. I also love that you can. Buy the combos that come with a iced tea and am egg tart. The vibes are just a cafeteria style and I feel right at home talking loudly like at dim sum.
The food here is delicious and authentic! We liked it enough that we went back for breakfast the next day! The duck was so juicy and crispy, and the broth in the dumplings was very tasty. The congee for breakfast was delicious as served but even better after adding chili sauce and soy sauce. We even took out the special to have later for lunch. Amazing food! Service was quick. The ambience was akin to a quick eat food hall, allowing you to sit and enjoy the food after picking it up from the counter. It was clean and well stocked.
Adequate. Overpriced for easy Dim Sum. The bbq pork buns were my favorite. The vegetable dumplings weren't memorable. I like the system of the place. Big eating cafeteria seating area in the back and you hear your order over the intercom.
We ordered the pork set, wonton soup, shumai, and duck. The meat for the pork was very dry; probably because we came an hour before closing, so it probably sat out for a while. The duck itself was okay, but the duck sauce was not great. The wonton soup and shumai, however, was pretty good. The place is self-serve, which is nice. The place could be cleaner, but it's most likely reliant primarily on the customers to clean up after themselves.
Cuisine: 7 Service: 6 Decor: 7 Value: 6 Overall: 7 Can you find authentic Chinese cuisine near Time Square? The answer is yes. Prices are certainly higher than Chinatown or Flushing as expected, but this Cantonese restaurant serving comfort foods a few blocks away from the brightest lights in NYC is legit. Everything we ordered was pretty good and satisfied a late night craving after a Broadway show. It's not the best quality you can find in NYC, but way better than I expected. Minor complaints would be that the Roast Duck was a bit over seasoned and the Minced Beef Rice Roll was falling apart slightly because it was mildly mushy. However, the Shu Mai and Shrimp & Pork Wonton Noodles were solid. Though the cost of the meal is higher than what I'm use to for Chinese food in other neighborhoods of NYC, I would not hesitate to eat here when I am in the area looking for a comforting meal.
Food: 3.3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Overall: 3.4/5 I think this is a perfectly serviceable Dim Sum place, but there are quite a few flaws with their menu. I won't point out any particular dish as being awful or exceptional, because that's the problem I have with this place overall. Nothing stands out in any sort of way. Everything here kind of just tastes the same, which bothers me because the flavor profile of these dishes should all be tasting vastly different. Most of the dishes carry this overwhelmingly strong oil taste, especially in their fried meats, that kind of just makes them all taste kind of mediocre. The typical Dim Sum dishes, while serviceable, just kind of feels rushed flavor wise with little care put into them, leading them to taste kind of like nothing. The only dish that I would actively order is their noodle, which carries a more distinct light yet rich flavor that complements their noodles, but even then I feel as though the meat and egg feel like afterthoughts in the dish that don't really add to it in any way. The last problem I have with this place is their sauce station, which though kind of them to offer quite a few sauces to add to your dim sum, is just a really messy and unsanitary area which threw off my meal. I wanted to like this place, given that I love eating dim sum, but this wasn't it for me.

Yes, yes, yes. I ate here twice over one weekend. You ordered at the counter and they give you a number. You return to the counter when they call your number to obtain your food. We had the beef rice noodle (generous amounts of beef and rolls). The soy chicken and noodles. The soup dumplings (hot, fresh and juicy), scallion pancakes (perfectly crispy). The char sui bao was delightful. Fluffy light dough and lots of juice bbq pork filling inside. read more
We ordered several items and the roast duck here is AMAZING. The skin is crispy, not soft and soggy. Also very well seasoned. Aside from that we also got: -crispy pork belly: the little skin that there was, was crispy. Meat was dry. -bbq chicken leg: cha shao flavoring on chicken leg, underwelming - juicy pork dumpling (xiao long bao): it was juicy , nothing too special read more
The fish congee was fine. The congee itself was good but the texture of the fish was not my favorite. It was hard/elastic versus flakey, which is just not my favorite. The wonton noodle soup was fine as well. The HK tea and soy milk were also both fine. Nothing was bad but nothing was amazing but we also did not try any dim sum items, which is what they are more known for. read more

I grew up in NJ and used to go to NYC for Cantonese food and dim sum almost every weekend growing up. Now I'm a Cali adult, and boy do I miss NYC Chinese food. Recently, a work trip allowed me to stay in NUC for two weeks, and I thought I would hit Chinatown every night. Well, Uber Eats allowed me to discover Dim Sum Sam. I love this place! The food is legit. The price is not bad. And they are open til midnight! Ding ding ding, winner winner chicken dinner! Well, not chicken... but that is besides the point. My go to here is the bbq pork over rice. Yummy! I ask for extra soy sauce because... it's freakin' good! Also, the Portuguese egg tarts is a must have. I don't know how they always seem to be fresh and warm and delicious! I brought some from NYC back to Cali, and it was still delicious! I really miss Dim Sum Sam now. Perhaps I can interest them in opening a franchise restaurant in San Jose? read more

At least from a to go experience - pretty good dim sum given the price/Midtown Port Authority location. I tried Dim Sum Sam one morning when I was in the area and got the PORK & 1000 YEARS EGG CONGEE and the ROAST PORK NOODLE ROLL to go. There was an OK amount of space inside and it had a clean and minimal look. The staff were efficient and nice. As for food, the congee hit the spot. Portion was nice and there was a good amount of pork and century egg. The rice noodle roll was fine and I appreciated how it came with a little bok choy. All in all, tasty dim sum and not bad option if in the area. read more

There is a reason why this location has high reviews. You get a free drink if you give a review before you even eat here. Tables are sticky and dirty on arrival, napkins are not easily attainable, food tastes microwaved (the roast pork especially tastes tough and old), and I've gotten food poisoning from here. Liquid shit will come out of your butt. Don't come here. read more
We didn't know that this place had no table service. Intent was to have an early birthday lunch with coworkers but ended up individually ordering and bringing our own food back to our tables, which there were plenty in the back. In the back, there's a sauce station that has soy sauce, sriracha, hot oil, etc. along with utensils. At the front, you order at the register and wait for your number to get called. I ordered the shrimp and pork wonton noodle soup along with a whole roasted duck to share with my coworkers. There were 6 wontons and they were huge. It's so worth the price, tbh. The shrimp dumplings (har gow) were also big and tasty (and my fave). The duck was a bit too oily for me but the crispy pork belly was delish. Would def be back for a quick lunch or to get dim sum delivered. read more

Deliciously tucked away on Times Square. Authentically roasted duck, crispy fatty pork belly, and oil pouched chicken over rice or noodles. Also an array selection of dim sums and tea drinks to accompany the main dish. Reasonably priced. I especially loved the pickles that came with the rice dish, which were refreshing and added a great texture. Will definitely be back! read more
I've been here twice. The first time, I really didn't like it because they put everything in plastic containers even though we were dining in. The second time I came, I got real steamers but still not the best. I got sui mai, haw gao, chicken feet, and pork/egg congee. The congee hit the spot and was perfect for hangover but I've had more flavorful ones before. Sui Mai was really good as I remembered the first time. Haw gao was better than the first time but still something is off about the wrapper. Chicken feet was not good and I didn't finish it. It was too sweet or something. All in all, I wouldn't go again. I didn't even mean to go a second time. I meant to go to dim sum palace but apple maps took me to this place or they have the same address for some reason. When I called, it turns out it's the same owner as dim sum palace. Because I was tired and hungry, I went in for ease and speed. read more

I'm not sure how to feel. The prices are definitely Time Square prices. They are open very late. Front desk was kind when we entered. We waited about 20 minutes for our food. We were staying and everything was packed in a take out to go container and was sort of warm/room temperature. Such a waste of plastic. We ordered three dumplings mushroom (two orders - 3 per order). The dumpling was very sticky and chewy. Inside filled with flavor. About $7 for three. Chicken rice noodle have a ground like chicken and this was better quality than a lot of the others I've tried before in other places. Sesame balls were very good and not very greasy and I enjoyed this. All in all it was so overpriced but I wouldn't say I wouldn't be back due to convenience. The inside was relaxing to sit down. I noticed a lot of people were eating soup and I think that's what I would try next. read more

We loved coming to Dim Sum Sam! The flavors are very authentic to Hong Kong and Malaysian did sum and bbq. We ordered take out and dined in and both experiences were great. The portions are generous without being oversized. It's fast food style so you order at the front and then find your own seating at the back. We went at 12pm on a Tuesday on Dec 26 so it was full but no wait to sit down. It's nice a brightly lit so it had a nice ambiance. I would definitely come again and recommend this place to any visitors from Asia looking for a taste of home. read more

All day dim sum! We saw this while wandering about. Service can be a bit slow for hot dine in. We got egg tart (very creamy!), crispy shrimp roll (small for the price), special combo noodle roll with r beef and seafood (large pieces of scallop!), har gow and shu mai (standard fare). We also got the pork and egg congee. It's quite decently sized; you get a lot for the price! Fresh soy milk is fresh haha. There's condiments inside: hot sauce, soy sauce, and duck sauce. Sriracha was out. Interiors are clean and they call out your number when ready. There is a TV screen with order numbers but it was frozen. read more

Definitely deserving of 5 stars because it seems close enough to being like famed Wah Fung but with seating and located in Midtown. Even if Wah Fung quality is better (I wouldn't know haven't been), Dim Sum Sam still hit the mark at reasonable prices. They sold me on crispy pork and flavor of roast duck and they delivered. read more
3.5 rounded down FOOD - I got the bbq pork rice. portion was surprisingly big, and I really appreciate that it came w veggies which were cooked perfectly and not too hard or oily. the char siu was ok, slightly dry but the flavor was there. the rice was kinda dry. overall a great lunch spot and balanced meal PRICE - not too bad considering it's NYC, and like the portion size is much more than I expected (and they give quality veggies) SERVICE - it's an order at the counter and sit down style AMBIANCE - the place highk smelled like piss read more

Stopped by here after walking through New York. Not a traditional Dimsum with the carts, order at the first half near the front... eat in the back dining area... definitely hit the spot and they had an extensive menu. Service wasnt anything special but didnt need to be!! Quick and easy!! read more
