I love the shui mai, ha gow, steamed bbq pork buns and tofu lettuce chearng fun. My wife usually orders a veggie dish, salt n pepper egg tofu and sometimes a sweet pork chop dish. Same servers since they open and they know is by our faces. read more

Came here for lunch after the Lunar New Year parade in Chinatown cuz all of the restaurants in Chinatown were packed. The friend I was with comes here often with his family and we were not disappointed! The food was prompt and hit the spot on a freezing Sunday afternoon. Personally would recommend the Siu Mai (it was huge!) and the chicken "paws" (feet) which were super tender and fell off the bone (knuckles?). Wasn't super impressed with the BBQ Pork crepe, but didn't expect much anyways. Go for shrimp or beef 'crepes'. My friends enjoyed the deep fried taro and the turnip cakes, which were both pretty on point. Good solid option if you want a calmer quieter ambience than dim sum restaurants in Chinatown during busy hours. We had good experience with the service unlike some other guests. Regardless, if service is your reason for giving this place one or two stars, I'm gonna have to say that you probably don't understand the authentic Chinese food scene (at least at non upscale places). read more

I've been here several times now. It's convenient for me so I'll probably keep coming back. It's more 2.5 stars than 2. If you're used to eating in any legit Chinese restaurants than this place is really just OK. Prices aren't bad and food isn't bad. The service is a little rough. Don't expect the same type of service you would get in a Western restaurant. But even for a Chinese joint, it's pretty rude. read more

Nice jook offering with dim sum menu. Menu size and dishes offered are just right. But service can be better - makes no sense to bring out the don tots first and when I ask for hot chili oil, I mean exactly than and not siracha! read more

Not good enough food... And IMPRESSIVE TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! Trust me you don't wanna go there if you care even a little bit about service. When I was paying money the waitress gave me a "you owe me a million dollar" face. All servers' attitude is unbearable. Single most valuable suggestion: DON'T GO! Also, some food are served in a PLASTIC BOX! They are even too lazy to take the food out on a plate. I don't understand what they are thinking at all...l read more

It's close to my apt so sometimes I would get dimsum from here. They usually run out of egg tarts by the time I get there even at 11am. Noodles can be pretty greasy so I stay away from those. Their siu mai, bbq pork steamed bun, beef crepe, Malaysian sponge cake rolls, and congee are what I usually order. I think their buns are okay. Service is rough but they sound nicer when I speak Cantonese to them. read more

This place is my favorite for carry out. From dim sum to dinner, their quality is always good and consistent. And they always have new dishes on their chef's special. read more

Dropping my rating. Place has become too dirty. I hate it when the tables are sticky after being cleaned...too much yuck. Food remains good but environment counts, too. read more

Their Hong Kong style egg custard tart and milk tea are very good, probably the best I have tried so far in Chicago and also better than those I have tried in Los Angeles. Very original Hong Kong style and tasty. read more

The more I eat here the more I like it. Their dim sum is priced very fairly and I like their beef crepe ( funn roll) and their won tone mein is really good. Plus the service is fast and friendly. read more

Decent neighborhood joint. Nothing fancy, but nice friendly servers, and decent food. This is my go to dim sum place on the weekends when I don't want to deal with the crowd in Chinatown. Btw, I really like their "Tai Chi Fried Rice" and their tofu dessert. read more

I cant believe I havent written a review about Dim Dim yet. This is a great place to have cheap dinner, lunchs, dim sum. Food is decent for the price you pay. It's very similar to Happy Cafe. The portions are decent size, food quality is good, and price is cheaper than most. I recently came here for dim sum. It used to be really good, however, my last visit wasn't as great as it was before. Maybe we came on a bad day, but it just wasn't as good as we used to have it. I still come back here. They have variety of food for a good price. It's nothing fancy in there - just a casual Chinese sit down restaurant (with bakery). It's decently sized too. read more

Really, really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, I didn't. Four people on a Sunday at about 9am. Lots of seats available and the atmosphere was cafe-like and modern. About the food/service: The Ha Gao (steamed shrimp dumplings) came out partially frozen. The brother who unfortunately found this out, spat it onto his plate and showed the server the still-gray/translucent shrimp. She grabbed the steam basket and brought it to the back. We all laughed at it for a second and wondered if she'd bring out a fresh one with 4 pcs or just bring back 3 because you'd think the raw one that he spat out wouldn't have counted. Her mom insisted that they'd bring out a whole new order because what kind of restaurant would just bring back 3? Turns out that restaurant is Dim Dim. I know it's one Ha Gao, but still, it's the principle. Anyway, the "fried baby cuttlefish" was totally the curry cuttlefish that they just deep-fried. Not a huge deal, but I think they should rename it "fried curry cuttlefish" to indicate that it's curry-flavored. The turnip cake was really burnt-tasting and also kind of wetter than I've had at other restaurants. The rice crepes/chow fun rolls were ok as was the spinach shrimp dumpling, but everything else was just kind of greasy and didn't seem freshly made -- like it came off a dim sum cart even though this place doesn't use them. Since I don't speak Chinese I didn't catch the best part of our experience, though. Apparently, gf's mom asked for to-go boxes to wrap up leftovers and was yelled at by the server like she was appalled someone would even ask such a question. I guess they don't want to take your leftovers home? I wish Furama would open earlier on weekends or that Shui Wah would reopen. read more

I have pretty much eaten at all authentic Chinese restaurants in Chinatown and this is my go to place for Cantonese comfort food. It's about as close to home cook Cantonese food as I can find in Chicago. If you are into American Chinese like Kung Pao chicken, this is definitely not the place and there are better choices elsewhere depending on your specific cravings....but I come back here time and time again for dim sum and dinner because the food, ambience and dialects of the clientele reminds me of the old country. My teenagers like it too... especially the steam oysters and lobsters. O yes, you need to be able to read the Chinese menu on the wall, and the bakery i read more

I ate dinner here and ordered pastries and dim sum for carry out. The food was okay, comparable to other casual cantonese restaurants in Chinatown. The service was okay as well, they were not rude or anything. The all-day dim sum was definitely a plus, eating chicken feet with rice was quite satisfying. My friend said their wonton noodle is the best in Chinatown. I will give that a try next time. Overall, the place is not a bad choice if you want to grab a quick bite at a clean / new restaurant. read more

Yummy cheap dim sum, served all day. Stand-outs: Korean beef short ribs Shrimp rolls (fried) Steamed shrimp dumpling Cuttlefish Waitresses were attentive, didnt find them to be rude like previous posters did. To-go dumplings & bakery items in front. Took the kids & grandparents on new years day. We had the place to ourselves, minus table of Chinese men enjoying a slow dinner among friends. Overall, great value, food & atmosphere. read more

Dim dim is my favorite dim sum spot in the Chicagoland area, it's a hole in the wall, it's authentic, it's the best. I frequent a lot of dim sum spots especially in Chinatown this is my favorite. All the different dumplings are very delicious. Tried a new one today a spinach and shrimp one awesome! Get the soy sauce fried noodles with onions you'll never have such a simple dish taste so good, just noodles onions fried. Potstickers are handmade take's about half hour to make them well worth it. Bakery in front they even have the dumplings frozen if you want to steam them at home. Haven't tried the regular dishes yet, but if you're into dim sum, this is by far the best place I've ever been to. Don't forget to order shrimp or taro egg rolls, Best you'll ever taste. Service is OK it's not terrible. read more

Dim Dim - Spinach and shrimp dumplings. - Dim Sum Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Currently my favorite dim sum place and authentic chinatown "rice box" carry out joint in Chicago. The food is fresh and made with care. Parking is free (but crowded) and the place is packed with local chinatown folks which give me comfort that if they like it is must be good! The shrimp crepe has that sticky gooey quality with large shrimp and their baked goods are awesome. They have a unique way of prepping their rice, they steam in instead of just boiling the rice in water, give it an awesome texture that I haven't found anywhere else in Chinatown. The one flaw I found was their egg noodles as in the noodles used in Wonton Noodles, I have not gotten consistently good egg noodles there, otherwise their rice noodles do just fine. Please note, this is the best place in Chicago, we don't hold a candle to LA, SF, Vancouver, Toronto, HK, etc. read more

There are two keys at making a successful restaurant in an area populated by the same ethnic foods i.e. Service, Authenticity and Food Quality. Dim Dim failed miserably on all three. We went there for dim sum and the wait staff felt annoyed serving us. When the first dish arrived, we asked for extra naps, chili paste and hoisin sauce, the waitress walked away after hearing extra naps, then when she returns we continued asking for the rest of items in Chinese and she pretended she didnt hear us and walked away again. Authenticity: much of the food seem precooked with freezer burn as all the dim sum we ordered tasted like frozen products from the grocery store (Chinese). Quality: All of the Dim Sum we tasted were oily & greasy, in fact the veggie with oyster sauce had yellow leaves leading us to believe they been in fridge over a week. Lastly, as we walked out of rest, we saw the freezer keeping all their frozen dim sum for tourist. This place really SUX from all levels.. the wait staff treated us as if we killed their family member. read more

Food is not bad but the owner very no good . She very impolite . She face looks shit and rude . I have been there very times spent around 200-300 hundred dollars for carry out . Why I said the owner is impolite . Because every time is she taking my order . read more

Bad customer service, sighed when I asked for 2 more cups of ice water and threw the cups on the table when they got to the table, food was okay but fried rice was kind of salty (too much soy sauce) for dim sum. When we ask a question, they scream the answer to us. Very rude but the food wasn't too bad. read more

The food is not bad. But, gathered with rude servers. Terrible service. I am a regular customer here, everytime we come back for food. Everytime after we eat, we decided that we wont come back again bcoz of their ignorant and rude service. This time, we decided firmly that we wont even stop by this place. Rather head to Cai's with long line. Cai's price is almost same as here. read more

I ate here breakfast was delicious. The owner woman was rude and not friendly. BBQ pork bun was hit or missed. Price is reasonable

I've been to this restaurant for quite a few times but each time the service gets worse and worse. All the lady workers never remember what I ordered accurately, I had to remind them about 2-3 times. Yet they still fail to give me what I ordered. They also enjoy taking their time and talking about social life while disregarding appropriate work behavior. I remember that one lady that always stands in the front counter as the cashier, and she would always look like she doesn't want to work. She doesn't greet much people and she never smiles. She also argued with me on a mistake that she had done, later then did she only apologize. They also demand for tips while emphasizing the poor economy, yet what they do not realize is that poor service does not deserve a fancy tip. The walls are very reflective, so when there is a crowd is gets louder than a club; very disturbing. The washroom is rather dim, its new and wide but the door is pretty heavy too. The parking is free which is nice. The food is only okay though. I have found tiny pieces of hair in the food before and plates/bowls that aren't thoroughly cleansed. I've ordered many dishes and some are fairly prices. The Korean-style beef over rice is a rip off for only 5 pieces of beef and some soy sauce on rice. The wonton noodle soup is pretty decent. The dim sums are kinda pricey but affordable. Some of the fried noodles dishes have too much oil. There was also this time that I order the Satay Beef not only would continuously change in flavor and texture, but they had even completely given me a different dish, Curry Beef, claiming that it is Satay sauce. The drinks aren't very good, I've tried the ice lemon tea and Hong Kong style milk tea and they've add too much ice leaving half the drink to taste like plain water. Their pastry section is pretty good with average pricing. Their menu is really colorful but only limited of choices. I say only came here if you are willing to deal with waitress's attitude in exchange for free parking and decent pricing of food. read more

Ok food. Good price. But horrible customer service, at first the service was good and efficient but then the last server to help us was horrible. Never going to recommend to anyone. Nothing good to say about them. read more

Just had family dinner here for the 10 of us. Nothing fancy but good food at budget prices! Service is pretty good too! Enough said!

So I'm really surprised at how bad the yelp reviews are...I actually really like this place. Yeah, the service isn't awesome, but that's pretty typical for a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Anyway, the best thing about this place is that the food is ultra cheap. It's not gourmet, but it's serviceable and decent and about as good as half of the restaurants in Chinatown. Good for a cheap lunch. read more

Service is crap! Never go there! The waitress are BITCHES! Never gave them tips! They always try not to pay tax! Never go there!

I really like this spot.Service could use a little help but Im pretty good about overlooking that because if I need something I'll usually just get up and GO GET IT.lol.Im not one to sit and wait.So maybe the waitress was on her way or MAYBE SHE WASN'T.Idk.Anyway,the dim sum is really good here.I thoroughly enjoy dining here whenever I come in which is maybe four times a year AT MOST.But this is my spot on that strip. So far I havent been disappointed and will say GO FOR IT!!!!! Parking can be an issue though fyi.But you can usually find street parking nearby. read more

My kind of food served by my people. Service was never an issue for me but then again I speak Cantonese so makes it easier. I would go back for sure. Located in Chinatown. read more

Never coming back here again. The rudest dim sum spot in Chinatown. 2 people get seated before my son and I and we were waiting for a long time. Definitely felt like it was on purpose. I ordered 2 Shui Mai at around 2pm. It took over 15 minutes to make but was very fresh and tasted good. I've had better for less $ so I don't think I'll be back. Actually I also visited a few other places today. The one I was most impressed with was Dim sum house a few blocks north at 2610 S Wentworth. There they sell their dimsum uncooked at a good price. It's easy to steam or microwave (covered) or even put them in your ramen noodles like wontons. VERY TASTY read more

My understanding is that dim sum should be tasty and inexpensive: Dim Dim - Dim Sum and Bakery is the place. Clean, comfortable and obviously a place frequented by the local Chinese residents; this restaurant has become my go to for the last year. Avoid the touristy joints and enjoy the best turnip cake I've ever consumed (my gold standard for well prepared dim sum). Easy parking or a nice walk from 2 different El stops. And they serve till 8 PM! read more

I've went to Dim Dim ever since it first opened. At first, the service was decent, the food was pretty cheap and tastes pretty good. However, after Dim Dim started to get a lot of business, everything changed; the price, the quality in food, even the service. I have went with my family a few times and every time we asked for a dish called Salt and Pepper Crispy Fish, every time it tasted different. Some times it would taste more salty than pepper, vice versa. Even so my family, friends, and I were still loyal customers. I once went with my friends to eat at Dim Dim, and it was very crowded. Because my friends and I couldn't read Chinese, we asked for a menu in English. It took them five full minutes for even that to be delivered. When we attempted to order the first time, my friend asked " Is there a dish that's ...... " , instead of answering, the waitress walked away. We were dumbfounded by that kind of service. The waitress appeared again with a dim sum menu and told us to mark what we wanted. When we were sure of what we wanted to order, we asked another waitress to come and get our order, but because my friends & I weren't fluent in Chinese, we had difficulty saying what we wanted as the waitress didn't understand English either. While my friend was struggling to say something in Chinese, the waitress said " Hurry up, I'm busy and I have no time to wait for you guys to order ". Sometime in the meal, my friends wanted to order a drink so therefore they asked to get Lemon Tea. That took another 15 minutes. By the end of our meal after we paid, we regretted ever going in. We figured that if we just wanted to eat Chinese next time, without getting an attitude, we could have just walked next door to Golden Horse Carriage. Same food different service and quality. read more

Not trying to be bias, but the service itself is truly horrendous, and the servers really feel like don't want to serve people. If you can pass the bad services and sometimes the long wait time, the food is pretty good. read more
