The food is similar to style and options as Golden Corral but better since the food was higher quality. The steak was decent for a buffet but it could use some more seasoning. The hushpuppies and the fried fish had a nostalgic taste but in a good way. The desserts were the star of the show especially the bread pudding and the amount of pie options on the dessert line. Very friendly service from the cashier to the servers making sure our drinks were full and plates cleared. The buffet offered many choices and the salad bar was great. Our kids loved the dessert bar (ice cream, cookies, brownies, cobbler, banana pudding and more). Traveling through on our way to the Lake of the Ozarks, looked for breakfast nearby and this place didn't disappoint. Good buffet (nothing fancy) with lots of choices. You could have them make you a personal omelette, there were premade pancakes and waffles with various toppings, hashbowns, bacon, sausage, biscuits, and the list goes on. We had a solid buffet experience this evening. As you would expect, they have a wide variety of selections, ranging from salads to veggies to carbs to meats. Sure Tastes Like Home Cooking! Full Disclosure: This was the first time I have eaten at a buffet in over 10 years. But for an old friend's birthday celebration I figured it was time. Located in a strip mall on Clinton's Ohio Street, there is ample parking in their private lot. The lot being nearly full on a Thursday noon was a good sign of its popularity. Coming through the front door I noticed how clean and well maintained everything was for an older building. Walking past the food I also noticed that everything looked and smelled fresh and warm (no empty pans or caked mess around the pans). Yet another good sign. At the cash register the young lady took our drink orders and accepted my credit card payment. As we sat down at our table our server appeared immediately and offered to take our trays (there are no "rails" along the serving line to rest them on). Getting up-close and personal with the food really whet my appetite. Their salad bar offered a number of different salads, along with pepperoni, ham, bacon, beets, cheeses, and about anything else you might want. The meats were all inviting (their BBQ Brisket was thick sliced, and not a bit dry or tough, chicken not dry, and meatloaf like mother used to make). Followed by 3 kinds of fish, hush puppies, fried okra, and chicken. Even past noon, there were breakfast items (scrambled eggs, biscuits & sausage gravy, ham, bacon, and more cheese) followed by chicken livers and fresh veggies. In fact, a vegetarian would feel very welcome here! The desert section stopped me cold with their coconut cream pie and fresh brownies. The amazing thing was that everything tasted like home cooking! Not sure how that was done, but it sure seemed that way. Our server kept a good eye on our needs throughout the meal. And there was no rush to turn our table as we sat for over an hour and a half chatting. Our three meals (with an number of return trips to the serving bar) came out to a very affordable $38 including tax. Needless to say, I did tip on the higher end of the scale. Should you find yourself hungry in Clinton,MO., do yourself a favor and fill up at Deitz. I know that I sure will. read more

On a Friday night headed towards the lake we wheeled into where I knew there was some fast food in Clinton. Imagine my surprise when I saw Dietz family buffet. My grandson and I thoroughly enjoyed the home cooking. The mac cheese was excellent and the bread pudding was out of this world. I didn't get the sample any of the other desserts but they look great. The fried chicken is crispy but very tasty. Two types of fried fish were also great. They had an excellent salad bar that I'll have to try next time. So, this used to be a Golden Corral that is now owned by an individual named Mark. Before we ever visited for the first time, I called ahead because my family is vegetarian and it can be difficult to find a restaurant in this neck of the woods where we can easily enjoy a meal out together. I asked Mark about the salad bar and he said it was excellent. It is excellent with many options: iceberg, Romaine and a spring mix, cucumbers, fresh, RIPE tomatoes, mushrooms, green peppers, sliced onions, broccoli florets and all sorts of other veggies, toppings and cheeses. I can't say what kinds of grated cheeses as we don't consume that. The hot veggies selection is great, as well: cabbage, zucchini, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, hominy, corn, mushrooms, green peppers and onions, carrots, and more. There are many other options for vegetarians, too. But, the FRESH PINEAPPLE for dessert was the perfect ending! It's ripe, sweet and perfectly delicious! Best pineapple ever! The food is either not salted or at least very lightly. We LOVE this as each individual can season his/her food appropriately for individual tastes. Also great for those with hypertension and salt-restricted diets. The service staff is delightful and on it! Slade was our server this evening and he anticipated all of our needs and was able to answer all of our questions with genuine interest and cheer. Great server. He's a real asset to the establishment. If you're looking for gourmet food, this is not it. However, if you're looking for healthy, cruelty-free options here in beautiful Missouri, Dietz Family Buffet is an excellent, simple solution to dining out with your family. So here are my issues. First when we walk in we are hit with a thick cloud all around us. Unfortunately I didn't find out until after my second trip to the bar that the exhaust hood above their fryers and stove was broken. So the humidity in the restuarant was building up so bad that it was literally raining down the windows. Not only that the hoods (that looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in the last decade) were dripping down into the cooking food. Second the space between the tables was entirely to small. We sat next to a lady in a wheel chair that had no other place to sit. So we couldn't get out of our booth. We had seen the take home chicken dinner advertised so decided to give it a try today, to take home for dinner this evening. And boy were we glad we did. We always enjoyed their fried chicken and the take home version was just as delicious. The potatoes and gravy tasted just like granny used to make. The green beans were homemade and of course their delicious rolls. It was easy to order. And the young man who brought it out to our car was so very kind and courteous! Drive thru Clinton all the time on the way to Tablerock Lake. This is the first time had time to stop and try it. It was amazing! Food is cold by the time you get it to the table. And they're now charging a percent of the food costs with a fee if you pay by card. They tell yo that at the register but your receipt doesn't show it. So when you reconcile the bank account the charge shows more than your receip. Not ever going back there again read more
