BEST CHINESE FOOD IN SEDALIA. We ate there this evening and ordered our dinners off the menu, not a buffet. THIS IS KEY. If you read the bad reviews, most of them say the food was cold. It's a buffet! What do you expect? Buffets are not quality food. Clearly you sacrifice taste and quality so you can be a hog-a-wollerin'. We ordered egg rolls and both the normal, pork egg rolls, and the shrimp egg rolls were EXCELLENT. Hot. Crunchy. Delicious. Best we've had anywhere out here. The Seafood Chef's Special, photographed, was a very generous portion filled sky-high with seafood. The crab is surimi but if you expect real crab in a $12 entree in addition to all the shrimp and scallops, quite frankly, you're a little dense. This entree got rave reviews from both our daughters. And I tasted the vegetable fried rice on one entree and it was DELICIOUSLY flavorful and perfect. The Spicy Shrimp and Scallops in Garlic Sauce was delicious. HUGE portions that filled the plate. The vegetables in the dish complimented the seafood well and went perfectly with the white rice. The broccoli was vibrant green, crisp and delicious. The staff was courteous, attentive, helpful and very nice. I couldn't ask for more at a Chinese restaurant. They were perfect. As for those complaining, let's get into this. You can't blame others for your own stupid choices. 1) The buffet complaints. You CHOSE to eat buffet food. Duh. Buffet food is only good if you're paying $100+ a person. $10 for all you can eat? And you expect that to be quality? Enough said here. It should be perfunctory. 2) The "It's not authentic Chinese food" complaint. THANK GOD. Has anyone ever really eaten authentic Chinese food? Did it have chicken feet and necks in it? If it didn't, that wasn't "authentic" Chinese food. Real Chinese food makes you puke BEFORE you even get the first bite in your mouth. 3) The flavorless complaint. This person is clearly a smoker who's chosen to obliterate his/her tastebuds under the heavy nastiness of tar and nicotine. 4) The "rude" staff complaints. Sometimes people get what they give. Ever thought of that? Our family dines out about twice a week, sometimes once. We've NEVER had a rude server, manager or anything like that. But then again, we're not pompous jackasses who think restaurant workers are beneath us. Ever thought these so-called rude staff were merely mirroring your own nastiness? That's my guess. Lighten up. Find joy in life. Smile. read more

Just passing thru going back to denver, This place was amazing! The lunch buffet is outstanding at $8. We loved it. Dont got to Dennys, go here. read more

We did not get what we ordered. I called the Joy Wok to figure out what was wrong. The lady that answered told me chow mein is not noodles. Which is false. So now we have cabbage chicken aka "chow mein." The garlic chicken does not taste like garlic. It is nothing but cabbage. Will never eat here again. Also my pork dish has nothing but chicken in it. I also got my Mountain Dew in a soup cup that was the only highlight to this meal. read more

We've ordered from this restaurant a couple times and I've been disappointed every time. This restaurant serves you whatever they want, not what you order. We've ordered general tso chicken and got orange chicken, chow mein and got some weird crunchy topping with soupy over cooked veggies, over cooked white rice, and just about anything we order doesn't meet expectations. When you call to share your grievances about your order, a lady tells you that you've just ordered incorrectly. I think most people know what to expect from Chinese takeout in America. No one is expecting "authentic Chinese" food nor is this restaurant serving anything close to authentic Chinese food, actually they cannot get the whole typical Chinese takeout food correct either. Whatever they are serving it's done poorly and with out care for their craft or customers. If you do decide this is an absolute must, I recommend you leave any expectations at the door. The second star is because they delivered quick and have a large selection. Also they never deliver drinks for some reason? read more

If you've given this restaurant bad reviews in the past, you should visit them again. My wife (very picky) and I went at 7:00pm on a Saturday night. Not many people there - usually a bad sign... However, this was actually a great place to eat Chinese food in Sedalia - certainly better than any of the other options here. We had the buffet; all the food was hot and tasted fresh. The fried options were all crispy; I tried them all. I would highly recommend the pork with green peppers and onions in a brown sauce - delicious! The owners were also friendly and understanding. We almost didn't go because of the previous reviews. That would have been a big mistake. My new favorite Chinese place and definitely on the official weekend rotation. Did I mention we only spent $7.99 each for the buffet and my picky wife wants to go back? Definite winner. read more

They always get my order right and fast delivery. Very friendly folks! Food is always so good, best Chinese restaurant in town!

Nothing special here but the price. But that counts for something. It's hard to beat a Chinese buffet for $6.95 any time of day. Decent buffet selections (although Kung Pao chicken and Wonton soup would be nice additions), decent service, and did I mention the price? read more

I've had lunch and dinner buffet here a few times, flavors are decent, though food can be sitting out too long, but at half to two thirds what Golden Corral charges across street, plus better chicken tenders than Lee's Chicken! Food 3 stars, value 4 stars read more

Take out I have new had a bad experience but dining in has definitely has seen better days seems to be hit or miss if the food is warm

Terrible food. Cold food. dirty plates and silverware. Staff were extremely rude and entitled. Worst restuarant (if you can call it that) in all of sedalia read more

We go in to eat and they sit us down not very friendly but that's besides the point we get our drinks and as where waiting there's bugs crawling on the wall and on our seat and table. The food is alright not the best Chinese place in town read more

This is by far the worst Chinese restaurant in town. The floor was sticky, food cold, very little to chose from, no sushi, no waitress. The food was in bowls on top of the steam table instead of in metal pans...resulting in cold food. The cashew chicken was fried chicken only: no cashews. No gravy. They were closed down for awhile for "remodeling" but nothing changed. Probably shut down by the health department. The workers all sat down for a family dinner and brought out steaming fresh dishes of great looking food. Meanwhile the customer is eat cold crap. It was over 20 dollars for 2 buffets and 2 drinks. Stay away. read more

Great food! Nice staff! Springfield chicken and mushrooms with vegetable was delicious!

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Sedalia. The selection is very good for the buffet price. They even have sushi and fresh shrimp (not frozen shrimp like Golden Corral across the street for more $). The atmosphere is nice, and the owners very sweet and accommodating. So, I am surprised to read these negative reviews. Perhaps it has to do with the time you come to eat. They cook the dinner buffet to be ready at 4:45 or 5:00. My friend especially likes their fried zucchini and mushrooms. I like all their chicken dishes and shrimp. The egg rolls seem to be filled with more goodies than usual. The owner told me she had the beautiful doors to the buffet room made specially and shipped from China. Give them another try. read more

Joy Wok - Very clean nice decor - Chinese Near Me - Sedalia, Missouri

The food was COLD all of it except the soup, the wrapped flatware was dirty, the plates we ice cold, the meats were in DRY pans, they are running a special, good news RUN, I refused to pay for two meals only paid for one, the lady lost her mind, they charged us 4.99 for 2 teas its a damn tea bag, she was yelling, she couldn't out yell me, I threw $15 and I am going to call the health dept as cold sushi or many of the items can make people sick, Considering the food was cold, she said she could put it the microwave to make it hot OH thanks if I wanted MICrowave food I can eat at home!!! They do not care there was us 2 and one other person eating in there, he was having a hard time at the buffet finding something to eat. I'm not going to on & on but sushi warm is a trip to the hospital go to Fortune Palace or Asian Buffet as they have a stir fry station. Save you money in health from this dump I would do zero stars it may have been ok a year ago but it's awful and no excuse for dirty flatware cold food.....beware read more

Ordered dinner for 4, got dinner for 2, called and the lady said kitchen said its all there, asked for a refund of what I did not get, she said you have to come in, so drove there, tried to show a photo, but she pushed my hand away, wife calls and says driver came back and demanded all food back, said we dont get food for free. Service was better when it was Asian Hibachi, will never order from them again read more

Steak hibachi is so good! General Tso's is awesome! Super fast delivery and friendly service. I just moved to Sedalia and was bummed that this is one of the only Chinese food restaurants here. I was definitely not disappointed! No need to try any of the others. read more

Nothing authentic about this place, but if you're looking for a solid American-style Chinese buffet with a great sushi bar this is probably the best within an hour drive. Building is newly renovated, clean, and the interior looks great (though the bathrooms unfortunately have not been redone; they too were clean but definitely shwoing their age). Buffet is huge, well-stocked and has a variety of different types of items, often changing and including some unusual dishes. Aside from the expected Chinese fare, as you might imagine by the name, this place has a walk-up hibachi grill where you choose your ingredients and the chef fries them up right in front of you. I haven't eaten any hibachi here yet but there was a nice variety of ingredients to choose from, and from what I've seen on two different visits they looked fresh. The thing that impresses me most about this place, though, is the sushi! The sushi bar is its own small section, and there's a number of different types to choose from, made fresh right there as you watch by their chef. It's standard Americanized makizushi -- with fried stuff, sauce, California rolls and the like -- but there are some pretty complex specialty rolls on offer and everything I tried was well-made and delicious. If you're stuck out here in the country and having a sushi craving, this place may not be perfect but it's well worth a visit. read more

So this is not the most disgusting place....but the service was ridiculous. I went with my 2 daughters. My youngest only wanted egg drop soup which she did like it very much....but when I told the server she was only going to have soup she was almost rude about it. The absolutely worst part of our experience was when our food was being prepared on the grill. My oldest daughter ordered steak & shrimp and I ordered chicken. The chef went around the table asking how each diner at our table wanted their steak to be cooked. The first 3 who were asked said "well done" when my daughter was asked she ordered hers rare. By George if he didn't cook everyone's EXACTLY the same!!! Hey cook? Why the heck did you even ask! When the chef placed the food on my daughter's plate I asked him, who by the way spoke perfect English 20 minutes ago, how her cooked her steak. The a@&hole pretended to not speak English!!!!!! Do yourself a favor.....go somewhere else! My food, (chicken) by the way, was so over cooked it was like eating rubber! Not a good experience. We paid $40.00 for appetizers and 2 meals. Not worth it! read more

Just about finished eating our food and found hair on two different plates. Told the manager and he only took two dollars off. This was after waiting almost an hour to get someone to serve us. Stopped in for lunch while in town for business--got pretty much what I expected--passable, run-of-the-mill Asian lunch buffet. Hot & Sour soup was decent, as was the Black Pepper Chicken (although it should have been called Jalapeno Chicken). General Tso must have taken leave this time, however, as his chicken was way too sweet, tasting closer to grape bubble-gum then sweet & spicy. General Yuk's Chicken, maybe. Overall, most of the fare I tasted was just a bit heavy on the sugar and salt, but I didn't really expect anything different. Not bad but definitely not the best. read more

My fiancé and I went here for supper. And to say that it was lacking would be an understatement. Old food on the buffet, no sushi on the buffet when it was advertised, and the waitress was luck luster. She checked on us once and that was to fill our drinks and didn't even ask if we were alright. Upon paying, she gave me the total, took my money, gave me the change, then left without so much as a thank you. Disappointment should be this establishments slogan, so do not eat here unless you are okay with subpar food and service. And if you're willing to pay double the amount than what the food is worth. read more

Would give it negative stars if i could. To say bad food is to disrespect bad food. They almost always use meat items at least for four days and always use dark oil so thats probably a health violation. Plus they tried to hang me with the four dollar scam on me but i just told them that i wont be paying and that they could call the police....i ended up pay ten dollars and left. read more

Cold food, tough chicken, worst sushi I have ever had. This is my first review but I feel like I should warn others about how terrible this place is. How it has 3 stars amazes me. Waitress added 4 dollars to our bill because we wasted food because it tasted awful. Then they were rude about it and it took staring at 4 of them to even pay. I will never return to this place again. read more

We went here last night and a mouse made it's way out of the ceiling and fell to the floor right next to us after we already ate our meal. Excellent food most the time. Usually always fresh. They do charge on take out food for sweet and sour sauce. Our go to Chinese food place. Just okay. Pretty standard menu. My wife likes the "happy family". I stick with generals chicken. The sushi is alright - a little iffy to get sushi in Sedalia, MO. I have spent over 3 years in Japan and have eaten sushi in many different establishments all over the world and this restaurant had the worst sushi I have ever tasted. Either the person who was preparing the food does not know how to cut the fish or does not care. I was give their tuna (maguro) and it was very chewy due to the cut was with the muscle and definatley not fresh. The fact that they claim they do japanese food only applies to those who do not know what japanese food is. The menu is at least 70% Chinese. The sweet and sour chicken had no flavor and the sauce was clearly out of a bottle. When I voiced this to the staff they did not seem to care. During my meal they had construction being done in the back of the restaurant. So nothing about my visit to asia hibachi was good. Not to mention anyone that I know of going to this place has came back with nothing good to say about it. read more

Dont go there! Worst dining experience we ever had. Rude lazy waitresses and cooks not doing what they should. I wanted sushi and all they had was shashimi. (Sushi with raw fish). Well, I dont eat bait. While we were there, not one employee checked the buffet which was out of many things. I dont want to hear two Japanese television stations while I eat. read more

We just ordered delivery from here for the first time. It was disgusting. I tried shrimp and beef fried rice. The rice was so dry it was crunchy. The beef so stringy I spit it out unsure what exactly I was chewing on. There was like 3 whole onions cut up in huge pieces in the rice/questionable meat combo. The crab rangoon where not like anything I have ever tried and that is one of my favorite things about chinese food. The chicken on a stick was not good either. There was no flavor what so ever. I will not be eating here again. 35$ down the drain, going to have to go through drive thru to replace our dinner quickly. read more

My family and I went to eat at this poor excuse for a restaurant , it was a Saturday night, around 6:30pm and the food was cold and it looked terrible. There wasn't much of a selection either, but that's not the worst part, as soon as we walked in we noticed this disgusting smell. Have you ever walked close to a porta potty? Well same disgusting smell. If no one had seen as walk in we would have turned around and walked right back out but a lady yelled from across the room "how many?" while the only other three people there stared at us. To top it off I had to go to rest room. The floor was so nasty, my shoes kept getting stuck to the floor. There was a towel hanging over the cabinet door, I'm assuming in an attempt to cover something(I really don't know this , it's just an assumption) regardless it was a towel hang off the door and one of the sink handles was broken. So let me just sum it up, the food is cold and probably old, it smells terrible, bad service, and it's expensive compared to other buffets. So, people please don't go waste your time and money at this place. I decided to write about my experience because I generally go by other people's reviews and I decided to ignore the bad reviews about this place and of course ended up paying for it. Don't make my mistake! read more
