We did not get what we ordered. I called the Joy Wok to figure out what was wrong. The lady that answered told me chow mein is not noodles. Which is false. So now we have cabbage chicken aka "chow mein." The garlic chicken does not taste like garlic. It is nothing but cabbage. Will never eat here again. Also my pork dish has nothing but chicken in it. BEST CHINESE FOOD IN SEDALIA. We ate there this evening and ordered our dinners off the menu, not a buffet. THIS IS KEY. If you read the bad reviews, most of them say the food was cold. It's a buffet! What do you expect? Buffets are not quality food. Clearly you sacrifice taste and quality so you can be a hog-a-wollerin'. We ordered egg rolls and both the normal, pork egg rolls, and the shrimp egg rolls were EXCELLENT. Hot. Crunchy. Delicious. Best we've had anywhere out here. The Seafood Chef's Special, photographed, was a very generous portion filled sky-high with seafood. The crab is surimi but if you expect real crab in a $12 entree in addition to all the shrimp and scallops, quite frankly, you're a little dense. This entree got rave reviews from both our daughters. And I tasted the vegetable fried rice on one entree and it was DELICIOUSLY flavorful and perfect. The Spicy Shrimp and Scallops in Garlic Sauce was delicious. HUGE portions that filled the plate. The vegetables in the dish complimented the seafood well and went perfectly with the white rice. The broccoli was vibrant green, crisp and delicious. The staff was courteous, attentive, helpful and very nice. I couldn't ask for more at a Chinese restaurant. They were perfect. As for those complaining, let's get into this. You can't blame others for your own stupid choices. 1) The buffet complaints. You CHOSE to eat buffet food. Duh. Buffet food is only good if you're paying $100+ a person. $10 for all you can eat? And you expect that to be quality? Enough said here. It should be perfunctory. 2) The "It's not authentic Chinese food" complaint. THANK GOD. Has anyone ever really eaten authentic Chinese food? Did it have chicken feet and necks in it? If it didn't, that wasn't "authentic" Chinese food. Real Chinese food makes you puke BEFORE you even get the first bite in your mouth. 3) The flavorless complaint. This person is clearly a smoker who's chosen to obliterate his/her tastebuds under the heavy nastiness of tar and nicotine. 4) The "rude" staff complaints. Sometimes people get what they give. Ever thought of that? Our family dines out about twice a week, sometimes once. We've NEVER had a rude server, manager or anything like that. But then again, we're not pompous jackasses who think restaurant workers are beneath us. Ever thought these so-called rude staff were merely mirroring your own nastiness? That's my guess. Lighten up. We've ordered from this restaurant a couple times and I've been disappointed every time. This restaurant serves you whatever they want, not what you order. We've ordered general tso chicken and got orange chicken, chow mein and got some weird crunchy topping with soupy over cooked veggies, over cooked white rice, and just about anything we order doesn't meet expectations. When you call to share your grievances about your order, a lady tells you that you've just ordered incorrectly. I think most people know what to expect from Chinese takeout in America. No one is expecting "authentic Chinese" food nor is this restaurant serving anything close to authentic Chinese food, actually they cannot get the whole typical Chinese takeout food correct either. Whatever they are serving it's done poorly and with out care for their craft or customers. If you do decide this is an absolute must, I recommend you leave any expectations at the door. If you've given this restaurant bad reviews in the past, you should visit them again. My wife (very picky) and I went at 7:00pm on a Saturday night. Not many people there - usually a bad sign... However, this was actually a great place to eat Chinese food in Sedalia - certainly better than any of the other options here. We had the buffet; all the food was hot and tasted fresh. The fried options were all crispy; I tried them all. I would highly recommend the pork with green peppers and onions in a brown sauce - delicious! The owners were also friendly and understanding. We almost didn't go because of the previous reviews. That would have been a big mistake. My new favorite Chinese place and definitely on the official weekend rotation. This is by far the worst Chinese restaurant in town. The floor was sticky, food cold, very little to chose from, no sushi, no waitress. The food was in bowls on top of the steam table instead of in metal pans...resulting in cold food. The cashew chicken was fried chicken only: no cashews. No gravy. They were closed down for awhile for "remodeling" but nothing changed. Probably shut down by the health department. The workers all sat down for a family dinner and brought out steaming fresh dishes of great looking food. Meanwhile the customer is eat cold crap. It was over 20 dollars for 2 buffets and 2 drinks. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Sedalia. The selection is very good for the buffet price. They even have sushi and fresh shrimp (not frozen shrimp like Golden Corral across the street for more $). The atmosphere is nice, and the owners very sweet and accommodating. So, I am surprised to read these negative reviews. Perhaps it has to do with the time you come to eat. They cook the dinner buffet to be ready at 4:45 or 5:00. My friend especially likes their fried zucchini and mushrooms. I like all their chicken dishes and shrimp. The egg rolls seem to be filled with more goodies than usual. The owner told me she had the beautiful doors to the buffet room made specially and shipped from China. Give them another try. read more

Nothing authentic about this place, but if you're looking for a solid American-style Chinese buffet with a great sushi bar this is probably the best within an hour drive. Building is newly renovated, clean, and the interior looks great (though the bathrooms unfortunately have not been redone; they too were clean but definitely shwoing their age). Buffet is huge, well-stocked and has a variety of different types of items, often changing and including some unusual dishes. Aside from the expected Chinese fare, as you might imagine by the name, this place has a walk-up hibachi grill where you choose your ingredients and the chef fries them up right in front of you. I haven't eaten any hibachi here yet but there was a nice variety of ingredients to choose from, and from what I've seen on two different visits they looked fresh. The thing that impresses me most about this place, though, is the sushi! The sushi bar is its own small section, and there's a number of different types to choose from, made fresh right there as you watch by their chef. It's standard Americanized makizushi -- with fried stuff, sauce, California rolls and the like -- but there are some pretty complex specialty rolls on offer and everything I tried was well-made and delicious. If you're stuck out here in the country and having a sushi craving, this place may not be perfect but it's well worth a visit. read more

So this is not the most disgusting place....but the service was ridiculous. I went with my 2 daughters. My youngest only wanted egg drop soup which she did like it very much....but when I told the server she was only going to have soup she was almost rude about it. The absolutely worst part of our experience was when our food was being prepared on the grill. My oldest daughter ordered steak & shrimp and I ordered chicken. The chef went around the table asking how each diner at our table wanted their steak to be cooked. The first 3 who were asked said "well done" when my daughter was asked she ordered hers rare. Stopped in for lunch while in town for business--got pretty much what I expected--passable, run-of-the-mill Asian lunch buffet. Hot & Sour soup was decent, as was the Black Pepper Chicken (although it should have been called Jalapeno Chicken). General Tso must have taken leave this time, however, as his chicken was way too sweet, tasting closer to grape bubble-gum then sweet & spicy. General Yuk's Chicken, maybe. Old food on the buffet, no sushi on the buffet when it was advertised, and the waitress was luck luster. She checked on us once and that was to fill our drinks and didn't even ask if we were alright. I have to say I am very surprised to see such bad reviews on this place... this is our favorite sushi place and honestly our favorite restraunt in the area.. we absolutely love it there. The place is CONSTANTLY packed around lunch and early dinner times. Probably due to the fact that they have lunch buffet for like $7 or something... but they are always slammed so I'm not sure why they have such bad reviews.. My husband and I have had nothing but great experiences here.. we go here a minimum of two times per month. The owners are very nice and the waitresses are very polite. Even when they are PACKED we never wair more than a couple mins for our food. Within the first couple of seconds after we are seated we are ordering our drinks and being handed a menu. Our drinks always arrive within 2 or 3 mins, our appitezers around 3-5 mins later. And our main dishes 5 or so minutes after that. They are always very very fast service. The food is of a much higher quality than other places I can order sushi or Chinese food from. We are from Florida and to us this is the best sushi in the area.. however we order off of the actual menu and not the buffet. Their sushi is always fresh and every roll I have tried is delicious. My favorites are the spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon, and rainbow roll. (The spicy rolls can be very spicy, but I like spicy food). Their seaweed salad is very tasty and never slimey as some places around here are. The crab Rangoon is way better than any place I've had in warrensburg, which is why we go to sedalia vs anywhere in burg. We mainly go here for sushi, the other dishes being good is just a plus for us. For anyone wondering about pricing.. Our trips are always the same and goes as followed 4 sushi rolls 2 drinks 2 orders of seaweed salad 2 orders of crab Rangoon And our bill is always under $50 unless we switch things up and order a hibachi dish. I assumed if you purchased an egg/spring roll that would be assumed you needed "red sauce". Still good food. However if you purchase anything other than crab Rangoon.. My family and I went to eat at this poor excuse for a restaurant , it was a Saturday night, around 6:30pm and the food was cold and it looked terrible. There wasn't much of a selection either, but that's not the worst part, as soon as we walked in we noticed this disgusting smell. Have you ever walked close to a porta potty? Well same disgusting smell. If no one had seen as walk in we would have turned around and walked right back out but a lady yelled from across the room "how many?" while the only other three people there stared at us. To top it off I had to go to rest room. The floor was so nasty, my shoes kept getting stuck to the floor. There was a towel hanging over the cabinet door, I'm assuming in an attempt to cover something(I really don't know this , it's just an assumption) regardless it was a towel hang off the door and one of the sink handles was broken. So let me just sum it up, the food is cold and probably old, it smells terrible, bad service, and it's expensive compared to other buffets. So, people please don't go waste your time and money at this place. I decided to write about my experience because I generally go by other people's reviews and I decided to ignore the bad reviews about this place and of course ended up paying for it. We just ordered delivery from here for the first time. It was disgusting. I tried shrimp and beef fried rice. The rice was so dry it was crunchy. The beef so stringy I spit it out unsure what exactly I was chewing on. There was like 3 whole onions cut up in huge pieces in the rice/questionable meat combo. The crab rangoon where not like anything I have ever tried and that is one of my favorite things about chinese food. The chicken on a stick was not good either. There was no flavor what so ever.
