Decent little restaurant located on the historic downtown square in an old defunct movie theater in Clinton Missouri. We were seated & ordered the Breakfast sampler & the 3 Egg Ham & Cheese Omelette. Our meals were served relatively quickly & everything was ok but nothing stood out whatsoever. The service was acceptable & the prices seemed fair but the decor needed some help. Next time passing through Clinton we may stop back in again but we may not. read more

Exactly what we were looking for on our way home from Kansas City, a spot for a hearty homemade breakfast. I had the chicken fried steak with homemade sausage gravy (VERY good!), with one egg scrambled with cheddar cheese, hash browns, and marbled rye toast. Husband had sausage patties with eggs over medium (cooked just his liking) with hash browns and sourdough toast. Condiments were on the table so we didn't have to ask. Coffee was fresh, hot, and delicious. They even had V8 for my husband which topped the experience off perfectly. We will be stopping by again! read more

We love the food at square 109. We eat there as often as we can. Always had great service and food. Until we went there on Friday, June 27th. We had the rudest and worst service ever by a purple haired waitress. We sat down and she asked us what we wanted to drink. No greeting or acknowledging us. Then she came back and took our order. No emotion or personality - took our order then when our food arrived she literally threw our plates in front of us and walked away. Didn't even ask us if everything was ok. We are out of town deer hunters and gave this home town restaurant a try. It was great! Fast service, excellent food and Tonya was our server. Had the Pork Tenderloin and it was cooked right and put on a pretzel bun. We also had a bacon cheeseburger with slaw. I would definitely go back in we are in the area. It's good small-town Southern homestyle food. It's not gourmet food, but their breakfasts are delicious, especially their Stuffed French Toast. I miss Uchies but this feels like a close remnant. They have been very kind in allowing us easy pickup since COVID has been rampant again. I love that they open so early in the morning. For homestyle food it's great, and it's a place that all the old folks in town love to frequent. They have a great bar there, too. The only downsides is that the food quality isn't consistent, some days it's better than others, and the food presentation is lacking (it's delicious, though). Portion sizes could also be increased, for example with the stuffed French toast the toast pieces are small and there are only two pieces of toast. Why not make it really big Texas toast, or make it a double-decker with 3 slices of toast? Two small slices of French toast, even with the stuffing, is a small meal. But still delicious enough that I buy it about once a month! Overall, a good place to have an early homestyle Southern breakfast, or lunch on the Square. read more

Classic example of comfort food. The food is hot and lots of it. If you are wanting gourmet the keep looking. I enjoy the food here. The prices are great and the servers are wonderful. The big down side for me is that the smoke from the smoking section tends to easily find its way over to me in the non smoking section. Can't wait for Missouri to pass non smoking laws. This was our first visit and probably our last. The salmon was over cooked. The spaghetti sauce had a strange taste. And the service!! Non-existent! We seen a waitress when we ordered and when we got our food. I had to chase down our ticket to pay it! Ridiculous!! I did not leave a tip and that's rare for me. I would not recommend ever coming here! They used to be slightly decent but have gone drastically downhill. My boyfriend ordered the frisco burger which was served cut in half with a burger patty smaller than McDonald's and only one half the burger fitting on one side of the bun after cutting. I ordered the spaghetti which was extremely watered down to the point you could pour the water out of the dish into the glass... I straight told the waitress I'll never come back and showed her the half empty bun and water dripping out of the spaghetti.. I know it wasn't her fault but they didn't even try to correct it. So I made sure to tell them at least my dog will eat it. A complete waste of money, and btw my dog didn't even eat it read more

A gloomy rainy day, temperature in the cool 70's. As we popped in the front doors we're hit with 90 degree air and the stale smell of your typical Denny's. We seat ourselves as the sign says, I look around and don't see a soul under the age of 70. The memorabilia on the walls is a bit tacky, not sure if they picked it up at flea markets or salvaged it all from Applebee's dumpster when they remodeled. At last our coffee arrived, I think it was coffee. Very bitter and cheap tasting. The water served in a beaten overused oversized mustard glass. Playing it safe, we ordered biscuit and gravy platters with eggs on the side. Everything is unseasoned, I'd say for that crowd of seniors. The gravy, well, tasted like flour and milk stirred in pork fat. No salt or pepper. The eggs, although cooked right, had very pale yolks. Either these chickens suffer from a deficiency or the farmer is having his way with them. The sausage looked like a sliver of spam that has past its "best by" date by a few decades. I must say the hash browns were probably the best part, must have come from a bag out of the freezer. I've had better breakfast at IHOP at 3am on a Tuesday. Will I go back? Possibly, maybe in a few years when I can't remember why I decided not to dine here again. Save yourself a dime and a raw asshole, go get yourself a greaseball egg McMuffin, or just cook some damn breakfast yourself. Cheers read more

Pretzel sandwich was really good. Fries were surprisingly good too. Soup and salad bar was pathetic though. One side of the restaurant is non-smoking, and one side is smoking. Unfortunately there is only a divider that goes 3/4 of the way up to the ceiling so the place still smells of smoke, no matter where you sit. It was bearable though for the duration of the meal. I and my family would happily eat there again if we come back through Clinton. read more

This place is great! Great atmosphere, what a cute diner. Clean bathrooms, smells like your grandparents house and good service. There was even a jello mold on the salad bar. The food was pretty good, coffee was completely see-through but the atmosphere was so fun it didn't even matter. read more

We were looking for a good home cooked breakfast while on the road and found this quaint restaurant with a lot of menu selections. Service was a bit slow, but my goodness, the hot beef sandwich on pretzel bun was to die for. I would put it up against anything I've had in Chicago or anywhere else. Square 109 serves breakfast all day and it has a full bar. To those that have mentioned smoking as an issue, the City of Clinton has finally passed a no-smoking ordinance in 2015. The air has been cleared. For a small town diner, it's hard to beat the food at Square 109. read more

Great food...poor service. My father and I came to Square 109 on a Wednesday, the restaurant wasn't busy at all; maybe two or three other tables of customers. We ordered our food, and the waitress was very friendly. Then, we received our food. It was delicious, but we never saw the waitress again. She didn't stop by our table to ask if we were doing okay... Didn't refill either one of our drinks at all... And after waiting for approximately 15 minutes, (I was very thirsty and needed a take-home box for my leftover sandwich), we finally had to ask another waitress to go get our waitress. I would have given the place 5 stars had it not been for the terrible service. Was in town early for some business, asked a local where I could get the best breakfast the town had to offer and Square 109 was the answer. I ordered the breakfast combo, 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 buttermilk pancakes and hash browns. Food was great and a lot to eat, pancakes really had that buttermilk tangy flavor. What was terrible was the service, waited 15 minutes after I was seated before the waitress came over to my table with a menu during those 15 minutes while I waited I watched her talking to co-workers at the register and counter. When she came back for my order still failed to introduce herself and took my order and asked if I wanted coffee, again watched her talk to co-workers at counter/register for 8 minutes before coming back with coffee. She continued to wait on other tables after they were served and check to see how their food was, but never came back to ask me. Watched her serve her other tables and neglect mine to the point another server stopped by offering me a refill on my coffee. If you think she may have had a lot of tables she was serving or this was busy it was not and she was only serving 3 tables and they appeared to be regulars. If she had introduced herself, I would put her name down so her manager could provide her with additional training (sandy blond hair, late 40's early 50's). Next time when I want the best food in town I will also ask about good service too. read more

I generally only order out (food is good) because the service is hit or miss. There's only one server I get good service with. If I get another server, I have to wait for everything like a drink order, food order and the check. There's usually not a clean table when I come in. I always get this spicey burger called the 4 alarm blaze, its exellent even the bun is spicey. If you truly love spicey foods and can handle habenero peppers with jalapenos you will love the burger. If youre one that might ocassionally eat spicey foods, you may want to think twice. You also get a side, i get fries and can never finish all the fries.
