Sad that this place is now closed. While the prices were definitely on the premium side, this kitchen store had it all and you can find some very interesting finds. The staff there were fairly friendly and helpful. I've bought a variety of things, including plates, soaps, silverware. Pretty much all of the purchases were worth the price. As a bit of an aside, it seems like Belmont Center is being hollowed out of local businesses. I just hope they're not replaced by soulless chain gangs, but I'm not optimistic. read more

Don't get your serrated knife sharpened here (done by local root, I think). My knife handle got scratched by then, it's not that sharp and the metal was buffed so hard, it looks like it has a groove on either side. Now the knife leaves interesting grooved marks on what is cut, too. I called to complain, the staffer got a bit defensive, and I then heard the Death Knell to my future business, "You can just bring it back...". NO!!! I cannot JUST stop my life and deal with parking to help them fix their bad job! When I hear "you can *just* come back..." so they can fix their mistake, they've lost me. i just had a bizarre experience in this store. insisted I give them my email address in order to complete a transaction. they already required my cell numberl but also insisted I give my email address. In thousands of purchases I have never had a store try to blackmail me into giving them my email by refusing to complete the transaction. To top it off the saleswoman was actually rude when I politely asked if it was really necessary. I wonder how many other customers she has cost the store with her rudeness? She cost the owner a considerable sale and an ongoing customer because of it. Two big strikes against à store that charges premium prices. read more

I dropped off one of my Shun knives for sharpening after I saw an ad on Instagram. Though I was initially nervous about sending it out, a quick conversation with Jonathan put me at ease. I opted for the whetstone sharpening based on his input. My 6" shun chef's knife had a chipped tip as well as some small chips in the cutting edge when I dropped it off. I just picked up the knife today and I'm thrilled with the results. He managed to fix the tip as well as the small blade chips while maintaining the blade shape impeccably. The original bevel angle was maintained throughout the length of the blade and the ground area of the cutting blade has a flawless mirror finish. My expectations were absolutely exceeded. Never stepped foot in Didriks, but their customer service on a specific order that bridged e-commerce with local staff set a five star standard. On the hunt for a local purveyor of Match pewter barware, Didriks popped up. Boom, thanks internet. A call in to their storefront yielded empty hands - they were out of my requested product (a dope double old fashioned glass, if you must know). Meghan offered to call their warehouse in Jerz about inventory, request a delivery window if the order is verified today, and got me the glass the next day. I win! Or did I? Turns out, I ordered the same-priced single rocks glass instead of the double old fashioned. I suck. Called the store, and again Meghan answered. Said I could return the glass in store, or she'd send me a return shipping label. Again, she called the warehouse to ensure inventory, and upon ordering the correct item this go-around, it showed up the next day. Neither time did I pay a penny for postage. Prices for specialty stuff is fairly consistent, retailer to retailer (a la Apple), and for selection of high end wares with incredibly focused customer service, Didriks nabs a perfect score. read more

Ever go into a store knowing that you wouldn't be able to afford anything in it and a little afraid that the snobby sales clerk would sniff you out as a poser and make you feel like a piece of dirt for even going into the place? That's what I expected when I went into Didriks. Instead, the clerk at the counter let us browse a few minutes, asked us if we wanted any help and when we said we were just looking told us there was more stuff downstairs too. And what wonderful things they had. Gorgeous table settings made of a mix of ceramics and pewter. Glass tumblers that tilt at precarious angles but stay upright. Cool "plynyl" table mats and carpets by a brand called Chilewich. Get 'em messy and you can wash them off - neat! I didn't buy anything, but I'll be back. read more

Absurdly overpriced, designer cups, potholders and the like...i saw one dinner glass, nothing special that i could see to it for 25$ and another for 55.....oy vey man... This is a beautifully laid out store with all kinds of unique home goods: dishes, flatware, patio furniture, linens, glasses etc... If you have any clue about the designers carried here (iittala, Simon Pearce, Match Pewter to name a few of the many) then you know that you aren't going to be paying Walmart prices. I'm not a fan of all of these brands but I do know that you can't find so many designer names and such a large variety (and stock) of items in one store (and when I first moved to Cambridge over a year and a half ago I think I visited every home goods and furniture store in Cambridge area and a few in Boston and the suburbs). I tend to go for the Jars collection and I'll tell you why (it may be for you if you are anything like me -likes quality but still has a small budget). It looks so artistic and hand made but it's also hardy and durable and quite reasonably priced. I always look for a good bargain and I shop at Target all the time; but when it comes to certain things such as the plate I will see every day or the platter that I bring out when company comes I would like it to reflect my personality and taste. When you buy something with quality and aesthetic value you take care of it more and in turn it will last for years and may even become a family heirloom. I totally agree that the stuff is really friendly and helpful and I know my little nephew appreciates the inviting bowl of chocolates. read more

I did some shopping here before hosting thanksgiving a my house his year. I needed some nice plates, dishes, bowls, cups, serving pieces and place mats to replace some shabby looking stuff I had for years. In order to impress my guests I went here to pick out all my necessities. Wow! Was the payoff good! I got many many complements from the items I got here. When I went in it was really nicely presented and laid out. I was able to find things easily and enjoyed checking out all the displays and decorations. I had such a good response I am considering hosting Christmas or a New Year's Eve party at my place and tuft is partly because I want an excuse to go back to Didriks and shop some more. Concord ave in Cambridge a pretty easy to get around so may check it out this week before all the big shopping rush cause this would be a good place to pick out Xmas gifts for friends and moms. Oh that just gave me some brilliant gift ideas also, I am sure they have gift cards that would be a nice change from the usual gift card stores. read more

Just got my knives sharpened at Didriks. While making dinner, I unsheathed the chefs knife - and it made the *onions* cry.

After a long day, I was a desperate for a stiff cocktail. When I got home, I realized that my last tumbler was broken in the dishwasher. While the easy solution would have just been to take a swig from the bottle, I didn't want to stoop quite that low. I walked into Didriks five minutes before closing and declared a "stemware emergency". Meghan was understanding and patiently walked me around the store and showed me all of my options. The store isn't super huge, but they had 1/2 dozen options all in stock. I was in and out in just a few minutes with a half dozen tumblers and a ice cube tray for cocktail size ice cubes. Super impressed with the store and the help. It is rare these days to have outstanding customer service in a retail store, which is something Meghan provided. When I have more time, I want to go back and take a look at all of their gadgets and cocktail stuff. A great addition to downtown Belmont! read more

The staff here is super friendly (but laid back -- not pushy/scary). They have a beautiful selection of table linens, glassware, china, etc. They carry sustainable carpeting (I wish I could afford it), wind-chimes, and other items that can be custom ordered. This is the perfect place to buy a wedding gift for anybody with good taste (or in whom you would like to encourage good taste). They also carry larger items like outdoor furniture. We ordered a beautiful wood roller-shade for our porch that lets in air, while creating a space that's a bit more private from our next-door neighbors. If they don't have what you're looking for, they can often order it and have it sent directly to you. read more

I like this place. I agree that a lot of the stuff is expensive, but there are plenty of items that have great design and are reasonably priced - and the staff are very down to earth and friendly. Placed an online order on November 29 and was told on December 1 that part of the order was out of stock (even though the item in question appeared to be in stock online). I was specifically told the rest of the items in my order were in stock and would ship. On December 11, after still not receiving a shipping update, I sent an e-mail to find out what was going on. No response. On December 14, I sent another message, this time through the company website, to get an update. Finally, received a response later in the day stating that the rest of the items are unavailable. It took 15 days for them to tell me that NOTHING from my order would ship, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have told me anything had I not pestered them for an update. It's now 10 shopping days before Christmas and I have to go back to the drawing board because of this store's total incompetence. Totally unacceptable. Stay away from this horrible store. read more

Terrific selection of housewares and more! Recently I took knives in to Didriks for sharpening (about 20 knives altogether). The results were spectacular; not only did the knives come back sharpened, as one would hope, they also looked much better too. Each knife was slotted into a sheath to make it easy to transport back home. While the cost was a bit higher than a local hardware store, for example, which sends the knives out, the end result was well worth it. Thank you! read more

Didriks recently opened a store in Belmont Center. I have never before been in a Didriks, but I'm a sucker for kitchen gadgets, so I decided to browse. I love this store--really impressed! They have a wide range of high-end products, beautifully displayed in a light and airy store. Don't miss the basement, which has gorgeous glassware and dishes. I haven't purchased anything yet, but their prices beat Amazon (at least the products I have purchased recently). I will definitely go back the next time I need something for my own kitchen or a gift for a friend. (At my recommendation, a friend went in to purchase some glasses she needed to complete a set. They are hard to find, and she was thrilled.) The staff were just right--they briefly checked in to let me know they were available to help, but then they left me alone. Fantastic store! i was compelled to write this review because the person working at this store is just so helpful - Meghan is wonderful! She is patient, not pushy, and very creative in suggesting different place setting options. I went to the store with an idea of what I was looking for and she really helped me focus - didn't put any pressure on to buy, mentioned the dishes I was looking at were on sale (and would be for the next week) and then let me experiment with different options. Also, after leaving the store I couldn't remember the exact name of one of the dishes and the online customer service was extremely helpful. After deciding and placing my order, (on the very easy to use website and with free shipping) we received the boxes the very next day and the dishes were wrapped beautifully! We would not hesitate to order from Didriks again and can't wait for another reason to visit. read more

Went to this local establishment with my wife while shopping for a few items that we needed to complete a home renovation flip that we were doing around the area and came across this store which was close by. We were greeted by a gentleman named Gedeon who went above and beyond what we expected customer service and product knowledge to be. With his guidance, we ended up getting not only silverware as well as some wine glasses.
