On 2 Feb 2024, I patronized Dick's Sporting Goods at Columbia Crossing to get new workout shoes. I was looking for either the brand I currently have or something comparable. JJ was working in the shoe section. He was so helpful, polite, engaging, and knowledgeable. I informed him of what I was looking for. Of the three brands I mentioned, he let me know one of them would not meet my needs and why. He also stated that the one I preferred wasn't the best value for the money and how one of the brands primary focus was on its shoe technology. After trying on shoes from each brand, I took JJ's sage advice and purchased the brand that focuses on the technical aspects for creating its shoes. Last weekend, my wife, daughter and I went to Dick's to buy a child's bike and to have my old one serviced. Derrick evaluated my rather ragged old bike and suggested that there was nothing he could do for it; and suggested several options to patch it up myself and keep it running. We've had very good luck with this location. We have gone here numerous times over the last several years, mostly for our kids' sports needs. Our son plays baseball so plenty of cleats, batting gloves, mitts, pants, and, yes, cups. Also the occasional bucket of cheapo baseballs to practice with (real leather balls are incredibly expensive). And we've bought him some other baseball equipment to practice with (net for throwing and batting, tee, etc.). Our daughter plays volleyball, so not much needed there except for kneepads so far. They do have a nice selection of sportswear. I happen to be a huge UA fan (shirts!! I just love the way they fit me) and they always have not only a big selection, but they usually have a bunch of sales and markdown items, for UA and many other brands. Big tip: If you plan to go there every so often, join their club. I've saved probably hundreds so far with the club discounts and coupons I get. And their prices are not bad to begin with. Downside is finding someone to help. You may get lucky and a (usually) kid with a lot of experience playing that specific sport will be right there. Or you, more than likely, will have to search for someone who works there and ask them to call for someone. But once you get someone, they are good (at least that's been our experience). read more

Tried to purchase a bike from online, dick's website will not allow me to. I went to 2 other dick's, they both had incompetent employees, and bikes are not setup correctly. The white marsh store recommended me to try columbia store cause they've the best bike tech and largest inventory in the area. I called them, they have one in stock, but needed to be built. This was Nov 17. They said I can come pick it up on Nov 19, which I did. I had them put it on the stand and test out the gears. Of course, it will not up shift to the last gear. When it does, it will drop off right away. Again, it needs adjustment. No one knows how to do it. They told me to come back on Nov 21, by then, the master tech should have completed the adjustments. I returned on the 21st to pick up the bike. Well, it was not tuned. The store manager spent about 2 hours right there, and sort of tuned correctly. The last gear still drops off. Then they proceed to sell me 2-year warranty. Suddenly I felt like I was in a car dealership. The slow process of buying a bike, hours went by, then the sales pitch of extended warranty... read more

One of the few sporting goods stores left in the area. Please be aware that this review is in regards to the service and not the products. I've been here on various occasions and I don't believe there has been any time that a sales associate has come up to me and asked if I was okay or needed any assistance. Even when they're restocking, they mostly keep to themselves. The only help you're going to receive is in the checkout. One time we needed help getting shoes and had to walk around to the men's section in order to find help. Granted when we did find someone they were nice and helpful, but I find that if there should be an associate anywhere...it should be in the shoe department. Granted typically when I walk in I have a purpose and I don't need help, but it would be nice to know that there are associates around to help if I needed it. read more

He said just come straight back to thenshoes section when you come in and we will take care of you. We talked about the problem with the ordering of the shoe. I ended up just keeping the shoes I ordered because they ones I originally wanted they didn't carry. Well afterwards Matt ended being so helpful with helping me puck out another shoe. This place is huge. Has almost everything you need when it comes to sports and other activities. I come here once in a while if I need new dumb bells, fishing equipment, or certain clothing. Went here yesterday with the broski so we could get a punching bag stand for our 80 pound canvas. We went to the bike area and asked the guy there if he had any in stock. He was friendly and checked it out for us. Came back in a few minutes with the last 1! Service is always good here. Prices are typical. Sometimes they go on sale. Once in a while a good sale. Barely any Nike, half the women's apparel is taken up by Carrie Underwoods new athletic line (hello I come here for Nike/Under Armour) and practically NO women's Orioles apparel! I gave this 1 star since no star is not an option On Saturday March 26th around 7-730pm my Husband & I came into the Columbia, MD store to purchase a Mountain Bike for him. We went back to bike section to look around, he found a few that he liked ranging $500-$600. Now my husband is a bigger guy, wanted to know if there was a weight limit, THAT IS IT. The bike salesman came over, asked if we had any questions or needed help, so he asked him about the weight limit, he responded that there is generally a 250lb weight limit. The sales man explained anything over that the weight just pounds on the bearings (would make a fist and pound it into his left hand, over and over again). We said OK, left it at that, the salesmen then walks over to the counter shows us a catalog with bikes that have a higher weight limit, 2 wheels in the back and explains the weight distributes more evenly. Again, we said OK and left it at that. The salesmen then starts kind of lecturing him, saying "you have to start somewhere", "it's good you are getting out there". My husband asked about the fat tire bikes, the salesmen said they were garbage, tires do not hold up. The salesmen asks my husband if he has diabetes, he says No, the salesmen then proceeds to say he mostly will, because he knows other people that do. He asks him his age, he responds 29, again he says "needs to start somewhere", "great that he's getting out and doing stuff". Then tells him to check out Rhodes website, he might be interested in them. It is absolutely crazy to me that a salesmen would say this type of thing to a customer. Called the Corporate office, they could care less.. told me they will use this experience for training... read more
