They will ask you to brung in your old shoes to see where they are worm down as well as watch you run on the treadmills before making recommendations. They tend to have a variety of top brands as well as colorways. They have a total of (5) locations so if something is not at the store you are at, they can look up if another has it in stock. Let's just talk about how amazing their customer service is. Let's also talk about how amazing their selection iss. Lets also talk about how it's soooooooo easy to spend all my money there! This is a place for anyone involved in any high school/college sports that need cleats or running shoes or track shoes. They have quite the assortment of shoes and they work with the high schools in the surrounding areas to ensure they have the required footwear in stock. Because I'm not in high school, I cannot elaborate further. I am a runner. And let me tell you! WOW! They listen to you! For those that are beginning to run, or have run for years, the staff at this store will work as long as you need to ensure you ahve the right shoe to run one mile or one marathon. I was wearing a certain shoe for a few years and then I realized that it's no longer working with me. I was refitted and now have a new kind of shoe. The salesperson worked with me for over an hour to make sure I leave with a shoe that doesn't hurt me and allows me to have a comfortable run. I always go there for random accessories and socks. I buy all my socks from them and I just bought my Garmin watch! They talked me through some of the features. They also have running groups. I've joined them once, only because my schedule isn't great, but they are very welcoming and aren't snooty about paces...I'm not that fast and they don't have me thinking I'm any less. They don't try to sell you the most expensive anything. They only sell you what you need to ensure you have a great workout/run. Every staff member is fantastic there and the store is beautiful. There is no other place like it. Some other places might have pressure point machines, sure, but treadmills with cameras to get your gait and stride analyzed? Tell me where else, and maybe I'll go give them a try. But chances are their sales staff does not have the know-how, the wherewithal, or the prowess that the staff at DPA has. I walked in wearing the last pair of shoes I truly loved, which have gone on and off the retired pile for probably the last ten years. Missy took one look and said "nobody's making shoes like that anymore, BUT get on the treadmill and let me see how you run in shoes you like." I did, and the first pair of shoes she brought out had just what I was looking for: a wide toe box for my wide feet. (and even if you don't know what a toe box is, or a heel drop, or if you run neutral or otherwise, you're still in the right place). I tried a few others based on my impressions of that first pair, and her initial guess ended up being spot on. My feet left with a new home, inside a roomy pair of Altra Escalantes, a shoe I had never heard of, but now wholly love. read more

We went there for our club meeting last night and I was pretty impressed. The people are nice and knowledgeable. The place is clean and spacious. My daughter went after her dance lessons the previous night and go great service from one of the employees. She was helpful, very knowledgeable and patience with us (first time runner)! She did the treadmill to see her style of running and got fitted with a pair of shoes. They specialized in running however we bumped into a friend there trying on some wrestling gears! Plenty of parking space in the strip mall. We will definitely go back and maybe even try their run/walk program in the spring! read more

I'm going to preface this review by saying that I've been buying shoes from Dick Pond for decades. Legit, my first set of track spikes out of one of their box trucks at a meet. I've been to several of their stores and you can expect the same great product knowledge and customer service everywhere you go. Ironically this location opened up shortly after I moved out of the neighborhood right next to it. BUT, it's a much bigger footprint than the location they were at in Barrington. Selection of shoes and every day running needs is fantastic. If they don't have what you need in stock they'll get it from one of the other locations within a couple of days. I think it's great that they do a lot of organized runs out of the store. I would have definitely take them up on that had I still lived close. I ran so many miles in that neighborhood, I probably wore a groove in the sidewalk. Love seeing this local business thriving after all of these years. Dick Pond is our family go-to for athletic shoes. My husband is very difficult to fit and they always recommend a brand that provides the support and comfort needed for him to participate in working out. The selection is wonderful, staff truly know what they are doing, kind and courteous, and stand behind their guarantee. There's a lot of activity that comes out of the store...runners clubs, walking clubs, etc that shows they are a reputable store that is supported by serious athletes as well the average workout customer. Really great shop that I am glad I finally checked out. My Kayano 23's were at 500 miles plus so I was long overdue for a new pair. I have learned that buying running shoes online is a disaster since fit is even more critical than normal when it comes to running kicks. Since I pass by this shop pretty often and I know they specialize in running I gave them a call and sure enough they had Kayano 24's in stock in my size. The gentleman who I spoke with on the phone already had them pulled when I came in, and after some routine checks on fit, I knew I had found my pair. They also have treadmills on hand so you can "test drive" your new running shoes before purchasing, which is a nice touch. Not surprisingly, the employee I interacted with here knew running backwards and forwards. This is a key advantage of dealing with a specialty shop as opposed to a big box retailer. The Kayano shoes themselves are honestly overpriced IMO, but they are also fantastic and once you switch to them it's about like switching from PC to a Mac. You are never likely to do back, and ASICS pretty much has you by the balls thereafter. The store also hosts nightly group runs from the store starting at 6 PM. While this is cool and all, I am pretty much a lone wolf type when it comes to my running so It does not really apply to me. I came to Dick Pond recently because my prior go-to store went downhill. I had a positive experience and feel good that I'm supporting a small business. I came in during my lunch hour to get a fitting and browse shoes. I tried on a few options but was looking for Altra shoes which Dick Pond carries but apparently not at that location. The employee "pulled" two sizes from another store for me and sent me on my way. The shoes arrived the next day. I went back to try on the shoes. The employee helped me select the right size and told me about a sock promo they were running. Tip: they do have a rewards program although not heavily advertised! I was a little sad to pay retail for the shoes and get no dividend or rewards credit but was happy when the employee told me I was signed up using my name and almost to a reward already! read more

Service seems to be better than after it declined in Schaumburg, so take that as you will. It still feels a bit like pulling teeth to get all the information about specific products. The woman who helped us greeted us and brought shoes out from the back for me to try. She even looked into ordering a size they don't carry in store for my husband. On the other hand, I had to ask if the shoes I was interested in came in other colors and there was no offer to check my stride in the new shoes on their treadmill to make sure the updated version would still be the best option. I stopped by again to donate some shoes to be recycled. The guy working there seemed surprised anyone was coming even though I'd called ahead to verify they still take used shoes. He awkwardly took the shoes and then kinda stood there before saying, "Was that it?" This isn't a new program they offer, but employees seem to never know how to handle it. I've been looking with the intention to buy new shows relatively soon and going the extra mile on these visits would have me feel more comfortable in throwing down the dough here when it comes time, especially since it's out of the way for me. I don't want to write them off just yet, but they don't give me the warm and fuzzies. They have a good selection of shoes and clothing, so it's worth checking out if you know what you need or even just to browse. Hopefully customer service will improve. read more

Always appreciate local running stores, especially when they host awesome events for runners. Dick Pond is no exception. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, a wide variety of brands to pick from. They had Nike, Hoka, Brooks.. to name a few. Goodr sunglasses and pretty much any other running necessity. We wanted to buy a Hoka shoe. But when we arrived, it was very unwelcoming and the staff member was so unfriendly. The staff member gave us such an unpleasant atmosphere and did not even seem interested in trying to entice us to buy the shoe. We felt as if the staff member wanted us out of there. I had a great experience here today with my daughter. She is in jr. High and was recruited to join the cross country team mid-season. Since it was so last minute, we were unable to get her properly fitted for a good cross country shoe until after her first meet. This place is top notch. They first had her run on the treadmill while taking a video of her gait and to get information about her feet (she's flat footed). She was then able to try on recommended shoes that Samm brought out. When she ran on the treadmill in the new shoes, I could already tell the difference! It was like night and day from the shoes she was previously wearing! They take their time, they are friendly, and Samm REALLY knew his stuff. I was really impressed all around!! read more

I've heard great things about this store but never been in. I'm starting to train for a half marathon and decided to try it out to get some new shoes. The associates were kind, knowledgeable, and really helpful. I've been to stores where the associates are a bit pretentious if you aren't a serious, world class runner. I didn't feel that way at all! Then to top it off, I got a handwritten note in the mail thanking me for my business and wishing me luck in my race. I so appreciated the intentionality. I got a close out pair of shoes which seemed that they were returned but the sales person who helped me said they got dirty (scuff marks) just by sitting on the shelf since they are last years model . I would like to thank Karie at Dick Pond Athletics in Hoffman Estates. My grandmother is 94 years old and due to her old age can be very difficult at times. She has many problems with her feet and finding the right shoes to alleviate her painful condition requires patience that would try even the most skilled caregivers. Karie was OUTSTANDING. Not only in the kindness she showed toward my grandmother but in her knowledge and expertise. This woman knows her stuff and is top notch in customer service. I live closer to northshore, so I tried running stores around. They are super small, have limited selection of shoes and clothing and customer service is not that great. Then I discovered Dick Pond Athletics. So glad I decided to check this store out AND I was lucky to go in on a day when Hillary was working. She was just wonderful, patient, had in depth knowledge about running and running gear. She set me up with an awesome New Balance thermal jacket for running in a cold weather and the store had good price compare what it was on line.
