First time visitor, but will definitely recommend to others!! The store was clean and well equipped with a treadmill for gait analysis and another machine to evaluate for inserts and pressure points. The equipment definitely helps with accurate analysis. The service was fantastic- Layla was super patient and informative. New to running, she explained so much and even gave helpful tips for stretching. She asked intentional questions about my goals and running in order to best advise on shoes. Overall, I had a great experience here finding a pair of running shoes. Chris was working with multiple people and he did a great got balancing everyone. He did make a mistake and ordered two shoes instead of one in the wrong size but it ended up working out because my dad kept one of the shoes. read more

The staff and selection were awesome! The store is so oriented on finding the best shoe for the customer. I witnessed a staff member work with a child, a teenager and an adult and was able to find a solution for everyone that worked great. My son has sensory issues and fine motor challenges so he can't tie shoelaces. Jay treated him with kindness, didn't make us feel uncomfortable and suggested the shoelaces that don't require tying. The environment was professional, there was no loud music pumping thru the store and everyone seemed comfortable. Incredible experience. I was looking for a locally owned shop because I've learned these types of places are much more knowledgeable then any big box store. I have been suffering with plantar fasciitis of my right heel. My physical therapist has stressed the importance of a shoe with good support. I bought a couple pairs from Kohls and a couple pairs from Amazon, only to return all of them. I stopped in Xtra Mile last week and I cannot say enough about the excellent customer service I received from Kennon. First thing in the door I told him I wasn't a runner. He listened to me, asked many, many questions and did a scan of my feet. He also told me from the start what the cost of their shoes were. Then he brought out approximately 6 pair and had me walk in all of them and some even more than once. He spent over an hour with me! I never felt rushed and I was impressed that he knew the answer to every question I asked. Anyone can go to the mall or order a pair of shoes on Amazon but if you want to be assisted by an expert, I would highly recommend going to Xtra Mile. He catered to everything I needed: my overall (overwhelming) muskoskeletal/connective tissue issues, the foot analysis from a cool machine they have in there (these were for inserts and I noticed the other customer didn't need them and he didn't suggest them...honest!), and my very, very sensitive feet. He even considered my very silly requests (demands) for what they looked like (toebox)! After trying on a select few that he recommended, the color I wanted wasn't there :(. No problem, he said! We can order from the manufacturers website and direct ship to your house! I bought the shoes and the inserts. Bonus-a walk to run program and since they have a good amount of space in their new store (across from Lou Malnatis and on the side of Walker Brothers-in the cute little stores), they have yoga there! The store is also amazingly clean and all Covid protocols are followed-which makes you feel good when trying on shoes! While stopping in to pick up a 5k packet, I had questions on items to help relieve tight calves and plantar fasciitis pain. Kennon was exceptionally helpful in explaining different stretches and items that could help. In addition to that, we talked about my shoes and feet, which he then had me try on a brand I hadn't heard of before and I was incredibly pleased with the comfort of that shoe! I didn't purchase then, but I will be back to make that purchase in the near future! I also found a rain jacket marked down 50% which was perfect for that next day in running the 5k. Really nice, friendly staff member was there when I dropped in today. Cute, clean shop with shoes, t-shirts, joint braces, outerwear and some whimsical gift items. I went in there to donate to the textiles recycle box in the store. Good to know they are here. I worked with Danielle and it was by far the best and most personalized experience shoe shopping I have ever had. Xtra Mile and owner Chris Schiel and family are the embodiment of what a mom and pop shoe store should be. When you strip away all of the things that are unimportant about running and specifically the running shoe industry as a whole, you are left with a store like Xtra Mile. Great products that the owners truly believe in. A tremendous amount of running and running shoe knowledge. But most importantly you have a member of the community that is immersing himself and his business in that community. Before the store was even open a year, Chris had nearly 100 kids in his extremely successful running club out of his store. Chris and everyone else at Xtra Mile have bent over backward to instill a love for running in central Schaumburg, IL. This is an area that had been underserved in this department. There are bigger running shoe stores, there are stores with more products, there are more corporate places to buy your shoes. All that said, there isn't a shoe store that I am familiar with that has more heart and soul and more of a giving and caring presence in the community than this one. In a running shoe world that is primarily driven by profits, greed, misinformation, and poor customer service, Xtra Mile has lived up to its name. They have gone the EXTRA MILE to show what a running shoe store can and should aspire to be. They deserve all the success they have already experienced and so much more.
