After months of complaining to my mom about my old, beat up running shoes, she suggested I go over to Dick Pond. I guess mothers really know best. It was a everything I could have hoped for and more! When I first walked in, I was kindly greeted by a store associate. He quickly worked through the many guests he was serving to get me 1 on 1 attention and fit me for new running shoes and inserts. They scanned my feet, examining my pronation, arches and where I distribute my weight across my feet. He also watched me walk on the treadmill further watching for gait issues. From there he selected 5 running shoes that would meet me specific needs best. We went through a process of elimination testing out each shoe until I walked away with my New Balance winners. Recently needed to have my 70 year old stubborn husband fitted for a decent pair of walking shoes and knew Dick Pond had a reputation of properly fitting a foot. What a wonderful experience we had with Molly, who was so kind and knowledgeable about the proper shoe for hubby. Last month I stopped into Dick Pond Athletics for the first time and had a wonderful experience! I was looking for a new pair of running shoes to get back out there after a few years off and issues with my knees. My running shoes were getting a bit on the stinky side (the sorts of which Febreeze couldn't handle) and I had a Groupon burning a hole in my pocket. So after running a few miles in my old stinky, ill-fitting shoes I popped in on a slow Thursday morning. Caroline walked/ran me through pair after pair of Asics, Nike's, and Mizuno's to hug my over pronated feet. Their tools of the trade include a treadmill and a video camera aimed at your feet so you can evaluate your gait. Caroline really took her time to let my indecisive self make a well-informed purchase. Definitely no buyer's remorse here. And even so, Caroline told me to feel free to take it on a couple runs on the treadmill and bring back my Asics if I changed my mind. Indoor and clean is their policy for exchanges. Give them your info! Once your purchases add up to $200, you'll get a rewards card and a $15 coupon. They also hold fun runs through Pottowatamie Park on Tuesdays at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 7am. Dick Pond is fantastic! My girlfriend brough me there for new running shoes and their level of service and knowledge blew me away. I've been to more advanced running shops in the past and been fitted for various shoes, but trust me, DP is more far more comprehensive. Their ability to assess your running style and footwear needs and match that with a handle full of makes/model of shoe is incredible. And they're able to explain this to you in a way that makes sense and seems logical. It makes senses: certain shoes do certain things best and are designed to meet specific needs. And trust me it works. I couldn't be happier with my new shoes and same goes for my girlfriend who's on her 2nd pair from DP. My physical therapist recommended them after I had a hip replacement. I've always had issues with flat feet and pain through my lower joints. Adam was the one who took care of me on my first visit. I came in one day and had the best service ever, the person I had help me that day was a gentleman by the name of Glen which I found out later was the manager-....then came in another day to try on the shoes that they had ordered for me and had the most so so service ever. I wish Glenn had been there because they would have gotten a different rating. I wish Glenn would rub off some of his customer service to his employees. The person who helped me the 2nd time at first seemed annoyed that I couldn't make up my mind...and I felt all their irritation the entire time I was there. I just wanted to get out but I really needed a new pair of shoes. When I also called to see if the shoes were there that they were going to order me Glenn had stated it would take 4-6 days so on day four I just called (not demanding or upset my shoes weren't there-just to check if they arrived) the person who answered the phone who later was the same person that "helped" me when I actually arrived in the store...told me on the phone very annoyed "I can't stand when he (referring to Glenn) promises people 4 days, I hate when he does that!" Uhm...if you have issues with your manager take it up with him privately not to customers... They lost 2 stars because of this individual (and really that is the only reason why). I will say they have a great selection-I think running shoes are such a person thing that I know immediately like other people if that a particular shoe is right for me. The store itself is large and has plenty of merchandise....will I be back? maybe, I'm not sure. I've been in this location twice and each time I left with a new pair of running shoes. What more really needs to be said?! The staff knows the unique features of different brands of shoes and it really comes in handy for us customers who are trying to figure out what shoe makes the most sense. I really appreciate the attention they give you in terms of figuring out your walking style and determining which shoes would work best for your feet. This is my first Yelp review. I wanted to write this review due to the exceptional service we received from Brian at this Dick Ponds store.  My daughter has flat feet and in need of a pair of running shoes. We went to Dick Sporting Goods and another Dick Ponds store before this but the level of service we got at this store far surpassed the other two. The store was pretty busy when we got there. Brian came to us and offered help.  He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He had my daughter walk on the treadmill and provided a very comprehensive assessment of her feet.  He then brought out three pair of shoes for her to try and explained the level of arch support provided each of them. This place was recommended by my brother, didn't know this place existed. I've been working out in basketball shoes for the last couple months and my feet were killing me. I shared this info with with Deb a very attentive staff person. She took the time to have me stand and also walked on the treadmill to check my gait, and to see if I was walking correctly. After the assessment and a measurement of my feet she brought several pairs for me to try and I settled for a great pair of assics. Dick Ponds is amazing. I went into the St. Charles store this morning with a big challenge. I'm 6 weeks out of achilles tendon surgery, am still in some serious pain, and now have to wear a foot brace for 2 months. A brace that my orthopedist said would fit into my shoes. That was not the case. So I went to Dicks, and they were kind, sympathetic and patient while finding a shoe that works with my brace. I had to go up one full size, but they found me a shoe that worked with both feet...so that my good foot was not swimming in the larger size. I've purchased four pairs of running shoes and a pair of insoles from this location. In a word: Amazing. The selection is great (apparel, as well) and the staff is absolutely incredible. Most recently I worked with Connor. Because I was nursing an injury I took an extra long time purchasing this most recent pair, going through approximately 12 shoes in the store including two special orders and one standard order from the warehouse. He was helpful and patient throughout the entire process. We discussed everything from shoe brands and running form to apps and cushioning materials. Though the process probably got tiresome for him at times having to juggle pairs and place orders, he never showed it. I walked out feeling great about the shoes I bought and the service I received. This place is really awesome. I called around to local running stores looking for a specific shoe in a really difficult to find size. I constantly received the answer "sorry we don't have that size". I finally called DP St. Charles. They said they did not have the size either, but "good luck in my search for it." Two days later I get a call from them saying that they had it in stock. I guess they went ahead and ordered it, kept my number via what I assume was caller ID since I did not give them any info about me, and set it aside for me. I have been buying running shoes for myself and my family at Dick Pond for about 7 years now. My wife and youngest both participated in their "walk to run" several years ago and remain avid runners. All that is great, but what prompted me to write a review was how I was treated during my last two visits to the store. 1 week prior to this year's summer tent sale I was in the store and noticed that they had an interesting shoe in my size in their bargain bin. I think it was reduced by $30 or so bringing the price down to $55. After trying it on and running on the tread mill a few minutes I decided to purchase them. Let me pause to say that the store was chaotic at the moment. A kids run club was about to embark and the place was a mad house. The gentleman helping me asked about the fit, comfort etc. and I told him I liked the shoes. He said "great, what's the price on those?" I told him $55 and he said "they are yours for $50". Sweet deal, but it gets better. So the following week we're trolling the tent sale for bargains and what do I see? The shoes I just purchased for $50 were now marked down to $25! Ouch! The same gentleman came out to the tent while I was remarking to my boys about my ill-timed purchase. He asked if I found anything I like and I told him that last week I had just purchased the shoes in my hand for twice what they are marked for. He asked if the pair I was holding was the correct size. I told him "yes". He said "great, take them they are yours" and he reaches over, tears off the tag and I walk away with the shoes for FREE! Try getting that kind of personalized attention and service at some big box store that is staffed with folks who don't know the first thing about running, let alone customer service! read more

I have loved Dick Pond since I was in high school and ran cross country. They used to bring their Shoemobile to our larger races and you could get all kinds of gear. I recently went in to get new running shoes as training is about to begin for the Chicago Rock N' Roll half marathon. They are still the best place to get running shoes! They ensure you are getting the right shoe by having you walk on a treadmill that determines the pronation of your foot. Then they'll bring out several pairs of different shoes (and different brands) to find the perfect pair for your foot type. They'll have you jog a bit in each pair to see which one feels best. The process takes maybe 10-15 minutes, depending on how many shoes you try on. I LOVE my new shoes....so comfortable and perfect for me. The price was comparable to any other store, plus I had a Groupon. Added bonus, if you don't like them after taking them home and trying them out indoors, you can bring them back. Get on their email list - they do some fun runs during the week and on Saturday...usually 4 miles or more. They also have a Walk2Run program that is going on right now on Mondays at 6:30 pm (they do this program several times a year). You meet at the store and then head out for the run. The training is for a 5k. The programs are all free, and you get a 10% discount on the nights you run w/ their Walk2Run program and a free t-shirt when you finish the program. This place is the farthest thing from a typical shoe store you will ever find. Two years ago, I was new to running and went into buy some good shoes. As with many running stores in the area, they analyze your gait with a treadmill and have good quality shoes. What distinguishes Dick Pond from the competition is their exceptional service, passion, and commitment to their community. It is an understatement when I say that every single person loves running and is very knowledgeable about their products. They host complementary running clubs that help someone go from walking to running on to marathon training. My young children have also enjoyed the running programs that they host for kids in the summer. The staff goes out of their way to educate those that are interested on everything from running technique to their specialty products. In the last couple of years, our paths have crossed many times. Throughout this time, I have always been impressed with the way that they try to build a relationships with their customer and their community. I purchased a pair of Brooks Glycerin running shoes for $175.00 in February of 2015. The purchasing service was fantastic. I wore the shoes sparingly as I am not an avid runner. In August 2015, the shoe was separating from the sole. I did not believe this should happen at this stage of high end shoe's life. Upon returning to the store, I was met by a male clerk who was annoyed that I considered bringing the shoe back and claimed that the separation was reasonable wear. I had to write a review because the customer service here is amazing. I am what I call a "leisure runner." I played soccer in high school, I run four times a week, and I occasionally sign-up for 5Ks. However, I recently began training for a 10K and have upped my running dedication. I quickly realized my once trusty Nikes weren't cutting it anymore. A friend recommended I get a professional fitting and Runners World highly recommended this store, so I decided to stop by. I will definitely buy all of my running gear at this store from now on. My friend and I were greeted immediately upon entering the store and I believe the owner, or manager helped fit me for my shoes. He was fantastic, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient. After having me walk on the treadmill, balance on one foot, and feeling the flexibility of my foot he was able to recommend around seven different styles. By trying two different styles on at a time, I was able to truly compare each of the fits. After narrowing it down to two pairs, I tried each pair out by running on the sidewalk in front of the store. The salesman never rushed me and encouraged me to take my time. His advice was spot on and I could not have been happier. It is extremely difficult to find excellent customer service these days, which makes it all the more valuable. Bought a pair of running shoes (let me preface by saying I had bought about 4 pairs there previously) and they started tearing at the seam, they were sent out and I paid to have repaired and it was awful. They used a piece of leather that didn't even match the shoe to sew over that area. When I brought them back in the manager finally refunded me and basically told me not to come back there to purchase shoes. Perhaps he was having a bad day but really after spending $130 on shoes and having them rip within a month??? I'm giving 2 stars because the employees are actually very good. read more
