I walked into Dick's Sporting Goods in Chesterfield, MO, this afternoon expecting to try on some Asics shoes. I was greeted, walked back to the shoe department and no one came to the shoe department to help me. I waited about 5 minutes, went to the front of the store and three associates were hanging around the checkout area unpacking g boxes and talking amonst themselves. Not one of them asked me "Could I assist you?" "How can I help?" Poor management at this location. Unfortunately the manager hasn't instilled in his employees how to provide good customer service and SELL THINGS? I won't return to the DICK'S location. read more

walked in, trying to test out some new golf clubs so I asked for some help to use their simulator, and I was immediately disrespected by Eddie B. He said i had to buy the clubs then i could test them after. Then he got up in my face and threatened me then proceeded to kick me out. keep in mind i am a 16 year old kid getting threatened by an adult for just asking to test some new clubs because two of my golf shafts just broke on my recent set. There is no reason i should have been treated like that he is immature and should not be in a manager position. DO NOT BUY SHOES HERE!!!! This place is absolutely disgusting. Went to look at a pair of Hoka shoes and when I get there I see some Mexican guy trying on shoes with no socks on. I ask the clerk WTF are you doing letting this scum bag try on shoes without socks and he says well I can't stop him. I finally get the shoes I wanted from another clerk and go to try them on and I can tell they clearly have been used...dirty on the bottom and looked like they were worn for a month. When I questioned the clerk he said that's all we have and offered to give me a 10% discount on them. I said hell no and requested a manager. I talk to the manager and I'm told they put returned shoes back into stock when people return them as long as they are not too badly worn..... disgusting!!!!! I dont know what it is but this specific location USED to be good. All of a sudden this past couple of months, the employees there seem to not care. We've been here a few times in the last two months and we seem to have trouble finding help. When we find someone to help, they act like we are a bother. The last time we asked for assistance was because of a vague sale sign. We went up to a group of 3 or 4 employees and ask if they could come clarify a sign for us. They didn't want to follow us to the table and clarify, they said yeah should be fine. We tried to get them to come one more time to clarify and they said just tell the register it's half off. We weren't going to force them so we go pay and we tell the register that we were told this is half off and she ignores us and rings for a full price. I mean I don't know what it is but looks like they just don't care. Would much rather drive the extra time to Schaumburg and get better customer service. read more

4th of July sale we went there bike shopping for my wife. The guy working with the bikes, Alex, was EXTREMELY helpful and super patient with us. Answered all the questions my wife and I had. He was also very cool about my wife changing her mind on colors a few times. Got a call from him the very next day when he had already built her new bike. I wish I could give negative stars for my visit here today. My daughter needed some basketball shoes so we went back to the shoe department. When we finally found an associate, she was horrible. I forgot to get her name, but she was a 20-something female. Here's a transcript of what happened: Me: We are looking for basketball high tops for my daughter, can you measure her feet? (I knew she wears approximately a 7-8 women's shoe.) Employee: (Grabs kids scale, drops it on the floor at daughter's feet) Put your right foot on it. (Daughter puts foot on it and it is beyond all markings.) Oh, your foot is bigger than I thought. Me: So, what size are her feet? Employee: Well, I guess they're about a 6. Me: I didn't ask for a guess - I know her feet are bigger than that - please measure them. Employee: (Sigh) I don't know where the scale is, I guess I'll have to find it. Me: Yes, please do. A few minutes pass, she returns. Employee: Found a scale...(drops it at her feet)...OK, put your foot on it. (Daughter puts foot on it.) You're about an 8. Me: OK, so what high top basketball shoes do you recommend? Employee: All our high tops are out of stock for women's size 8. (Walks away.) At this point, my daughter and I shared shocked looks and we went to leave the store. I spoke with one of the cashiers on the way out and asked for a manager and he said, "Well, I am kinda like one." I told him what happened, he appeared shocked and told me he will pass it on to the general manager. Personally, if I was "kinda like (a manager)" and someone told me this, I would get the general manager to talk with the upset customer, not brush them off with a weak comment like that in an effort to retain the customer's business in the future. I have good days, and I have bad days when I go to Dick's. On a good day, I find something I need/want on sale, and I can find help. On a bad day, everything is overpriced, they don't have my size/color/whatever, and there is no one to be found as far as help goes, or the person I do get has no clue about the answer to my questions or, worse yet, pretends they know the answer. More often than not, it's a bad day. It is a beautiful *looking* store. If you want athletic clothing and are willing to pay top dollar to get latest fitness styles, this may be the store for you. If you are cost concious, you may want to shop alternatives first. My most recent experience goes something like this: 1) Decided I wanted a treadmill. 2) Researched treadmill. 3) Picked treadmill. 4) Looked at delivery options and figured out maybe Dicks' down the street had what I wanted. Decided to drop by and check it out, rather than blindly ordering online (even though the brand/model I was considering gets awesome reviews). 5) Ask the sales dude about the treadmill I want. He says "why are you buying that one?!?!?" in a really puzzled tone of voice. (Obviously not commissioned... a plus... but I think it could have been managed a bit more tactfully.) 6) Turns out, for inside delivery they had the best price I could find, so made a buying decision. 7) I pay for the treadmill and inside delivery. I'm told "if you don't hear from the delivery company by next Tuesday, call the store"...... wow - not a great setup for success. I just paid quite a bit of money for a treadmill, and I have to wait a week for a phone call for delivery? 8) A week passes. I am about to pick up the phone and call the store to find out about delivery when I get a message from hubby that they called, left a message and he couldn't figure out what they really said. 9) I listen to the message - it's a name I can't hear, calling about delivery and our (dictated) delivery date/time is a week from now. Are you kidding me? I payed a lot of money to wait a week to get a call to wait a week. Huh? 10) I call the number they left, get someone who can't help me, who puts me into voice-mail, assuring me so-and-so will call me back. 11) Three days later I am *still* waiting for that phone call back. Whether I like it or not, delivery is 2 weeks from purchase. I do not understand why a phone call takes a week. There is a problem with customer service at this location: 1) High school kids with no customer service skills 2) full-time workers who lack product knowledge 3) Delivery system that does not fulfill customers needs. A two week wait is excessive compared to other businesses. Would I recommend: If someone asked for a sports store close by, they'd be in the list... but I'd probably say "they're not great, but if you know what you want it's fine" Would I return: Well -they are the closest sports equipment store - they have their place in the scheme of things, so yes, but typically as my last choice - I'll head over to REI, Walmart, Target or Cabela's first. Dick's tends to be my last stop. Update 11/23/2010 - Got my points rewards finally - it was only $50, compared to the $100 we had calcuated, based on associate input. Also - small timeframe to use it in. I tried - but aside from over-priced clothing, there was nothing they had I wanted to buy. Nothing. The reward expired this month. read more

Pros: fast checkout, friendly staff, good merchandise Cons: 2 fitting rooms I went in today and got some under armour capris. Everyone I dealt with was super nice, but trying on the capris was a nightmare. Although the fitting room limit is 3 items, the people in front of me had an entire fitting room filled with clothes and left to grab 5 more things while I was standing there. Finally, my hubby flagged someone down and I was able to try my capris on on the men's side. I well definitely be back because of the selection, but trying stuff on is a huge pain. The young lady in footwear is absolutely excellent. I believe her name is Stacey, and she helped me pick out a wonderful pair of Brook's running shoes a few days ago. She did a foot test on me to see what kind of arches I have so I'd be put in the right shoes. She was very patient with me and answered all of my questions with a lot of knowledge. I was more than impressed with the service I received. I felt like her main priority. I came in thinking Nike had the best shoes, but she made sure I left with Brooks because she told me her personal success stories with those shoes. I also left with Copper Fit socks that she assured me I would love! And I do! She did not have the size I needed in footwear, so she personally walked me over to the basketball hoop section and picked out the sock size I needed on the shelf. When I told her she did not have to do all of this for me since there were other customers while I was there, she said, "That's okay ma'am I want to make sure you have everything you need." I have never had this great of an experience at Dick's Sporting Goods until this associate came along. Please keep this young woman around for a long time, and see to it that other store associates have customer service skills like her. I will be coming back to the Algonquin location just for Stacey, and I have recommended her to my friends and family to see when they need shoes. read more

Went into Dick's to purchase an elliptical machine. Young man that tried to help us was NOT knowledgeable of the products, yet was called an expert by his manager. The machine I tried started smoking, and he said "Yeah, I'm sorry. I guess I wouldn't buy that one. You're better off with the Livestrong Machine." The Livestrong Machine was $200 more. I asked what their guarantee was.. "Once the it's in your home, you need to contact the manufacturer, we cannot help." They never tagged the "smoking" machine, and other equipment floor models had cracks in them. Needless to say, we left without a purchase and won't be back. We ended at 2nd Wind next to Bone Fish Grill in the same shopping complex... There, we found the perfect elliptical machine for the same price as the Livestrong. Dominick was very knowledgeable about their products and gave us a demo. I highly recommend, 2nd Wind. read more

Was in the area looking for some resettable pistol targets that you put in the ground. All they had were for a .22 cal. I was looking for heavier duty to hold up to 9mm. Had trouble finding the targets at first so the gun counter guy helped me out. Told him what I was looking for and saw it was not heavy duty enough so he suggested where I could go and find what I was looking for. So, overall, not a bad experience or great. read more

I made a purchase, $225 worth to be exact. Used a $20 off $100 coupon. Had to return 2 items totaling $85 not including tax. I received only $80 credit after taxes and everything! Only offering $46 on a $55 item and $26 on a $30 item. When I questioned it, they said I didn't pay that amount. Yes I did! Then he basically told me that because I was returning the items, I would loose my coupon even though my total purchase was still well over the $100 minimum. I said so you are just gonna ignore the coupon and I am out the money, he looked at me and said "Yep!" I have never had such poor customer service! Do not offer coupons if you don't like to honor them!!! Needless to say I returned the ENTIRE purchase and will never shop there again. read more

They just simply don't care about how their store looks due to the fact that they have zero competition in the area. When you did get assistance they always act like you are inconveniencing them. My overall experience at this Dick's was terrible. Took about 20 minutes for anyone to assist me at the gun counter which would be understandable if there was any customer traffic but there wasn't. The manager was condescending when talking about the products. When I asked to order an item from the catalogue, manager said he'd contact me later during the day and left. He never called me back and I still needed to make an ammo purchase at the gun counter when he left. I had to track down a store associate who called for the lodge manager, who did not respond. At the checkout lane, the cashier was unfriendly. Large store and was relatively neat. Gun prices are alright but ammo prices are on par with GAT guns. Go there instead. I also plan on contacting their corporate office. The customer service was just awful. read more

The store was very clean with great prices and good selection. I felt they were under staffed, I just bought Roller Blades and couldn't find any one to help as far as fitting and pads. The store seems to lack employees, they have a guy or gal up front asking you what can we help you with and they do let you know what area to go to but then you get to that area and nobody is to be found. We are usually between basketball/baseball . They use to have a really good employee that was very helpful in the baseball department but no longer see him, he was clean shaved on top, dont remember his name but played for ECC at one time and Jacobs High School. You should really have more employees like him or get him back . Now we go in and have no one to ask questions to? ghost town in store.
