My hubby is 6' 6" and a bigger guy. He needed some casual business clothes. The manager, I cannot remember his name, was super helpful and made suggestions on pants, shirts, and a belt. I am really thankful the manager took the time to help us. Yes the prices are higher but aren't most clothes for men's big & tall and women's plus size. The clothes are good quality. At 6'6" I qualify as tall. I went in to buy a pair of dress pants, asking for a 36" inseam. The salesperson said that they had nothing in that size and that 32" was the longest inseam that they carried which does not qualify as tall. They suggested another store to try but DXL is supposed to be the one store that has clothing in my size. Two stars only because the salesperson was sympathetic and did make the suggestion for another store (that ended up not having my size as well) but here I was very disappointed. read more

This is probably the best store in the Midwest for guys of a certain size who don't want to spend $$$$ at Rochester or survive the horrible selection at Casual Male. They are all owned by the same company, but Destination XL has the best selection, and this relatively new store impressed the heck out of me. They're close enough to Woodfield Mall in their own strip mall to warrant a stop. read more

This store really has a lot to offer for the tall or big man. What I found to be most impressive is that they carry all brands even some that typically limit sizing options in a traditional setting (Polo by Ralph Lauren, True Religion, etc.). I went in last week with my tall guy in search for shirts and pants that were long enough. We were both pleasantly surprised at the variety of clothing to choose from. Many were full price but I suspect most men who need these options would pay more over wearing attire that causes them to resemble the incredible hulk's pieces. This place looks small but it's really large. They have everything from work out clothes, to casual wear, to full suits. I will say customer service was kind of odd. At first no on approached us so we kept having to find people for help. But then this one guy decided he would try to stick around and help. Oy. I dunno. They were nice but it was odd. For us, they definitely specialize in the xxxL. My husband who is only a 1x had trouble finding much that would fit him. It was understood- in just saying. They do free shipping to the store if that's something you are into. They also have a decent rewards program so keep that in mind so you can get more bang for your buck. Prices are reasonable. Not the cheepest stuff. But consider that you are buying things like rebook, adidas, lacrosse, raulph lauren, or the store brand. So you can find your price range within those clothes. Rude and RACIST people work here. It was THE worst experience ever and for a moment I feel bad for my friend who went there shopping with me. Really RUDE people. Yes, we are Indian ("NOT WHITE"). So me and my friend(who's wealthy and could afford their most expensive item) walked into their store about a week ago. The lady in the front seemed nice and welcomed us in and informed us that someone will be there with us to help. So we waited their for 10 min or more. Then this black tall "gentleman" saw us and said "I'll be there in a minute" and went to take care of a customer who came after us and of course he was wh***e. Then this white employee who was big and tall (above middle age I think; sorry I didn't got his name and no I am not a racist) came to us and asked how can he be of help. So I turned towards him and pointed my friend and told him "we need some new suits for my friend here". He is said "this is a big and tall people's shop nothing here could possibly fit your friend because he is so small" (no he is not but he is not that big either). That was the moment that I saw the look on my friend's face. I mean if you don't have to have what we need and that's fine but be polite about it. It was really a rude and racial comment that the employee made on my friend. They were pretty much kicking us out because we did not look "UPSCALE". I have friends and people that I know who are white and are really nice people. What you guys did (the store employees) is bad enough to spoil the reputation of good white people. read more

What a great experience! It's a very nice store and we were kindly greeted by Sophia, who could not do enough to help us find what we were looking for, and went over and above with kindness and patience toward my Mom and her friend. She felt like a person we knew forever and came shopping with us! When we seemed to run out of options (it was a "tall" order we needed - pun intended) she called Nathan over, and he was just as pleasant and helpful. This store is a warehouse concept by the owners of Rochester Big & Tall and Casual Male. My wife and I traveled over one-hour from Chicago's loop to make a visit to shop for a sport coat. Now, I am a Big & Tall guy - 380# and 6'3". My coat size is 62/64 portly long. There were NO 62 coats to try on and only two 64. What is management thinking of? The salesperson told us that people who need waist or coat sizes over 60 are being encouraged to use their more expensive custom built service. S0, if you are a smaller big and tall check it out, but larger guys should not waste their time. read more

After all the Casual Males around me closed, I was forced to take a trip out to Schaumburg and shop at DXL. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much. After reading reviews on here and making assumptions about a whole department store dedicated to overweight men I thought it'd be hokey or lackluster. I was totally wrong. It was one of the best shopping experiences I have had in a long time. The store has a bit of a warehouse feel simply because it is a Casual Male, Rochester Big and Tall and Shoes XL all slipped into one. It was one of the first times that I've walked into what felt like a regular clothing store and been able to fit into everything. And I'm a size 60chest and 56pants so that's really not a normal occurrence. It was actually a step up from the regular Casual Male stores because there was just some much variety. I absolutely loved it. The only thing I'll say is that while there were employees wondering around, not one of them offered to help me in any way. Not that I needed it but it would have been nice to have been asked. All in all, great experience. read more

I am a big guy and I love the clothes in Destination XL. The clearance section is where I shop. I can not afford $75.00 shirts, but I can afford $20-$40 shirts. I love Nautica's clothing in this store and the shoe selection is awesome. Finally, i found Sketchers in my size. The only bad part of this store is: Leave me alone. I hate salesmen following me around. It is so annoying. Go do something else! I hate being followed and this is the only reason they did not get five stars. Dillard's and Destination XL are the worst offenders of creppy salesmen, but have outstanding clothes. Like the review under my review says, Destination XL is the in between bad clothes at Causal Male and expensive clothes at Rochester. Destination XL has top name brands at affordable prices. OK so I date a big guy and clothes, especially semi-fashionable items, are hard to find. Most stores that sell nicer clothes max their men's sizes out at XXL (if they even have that). Sometimes in Nordstrom Rack you can find the random Bogosse shirt in a bigger size but its very rare. So really Casual Male / Rochester are your only options and their stuff tends to be pretty basic solid-color cheap looking stuff. Which is OK for working in the yard or playing Xbox but for an office environment or a Vegas trip it is nice to look nice. And my guy likes to look nice when the occasion calls for it. DXL has stuff so you don't look like a slob. Actually the store had some REALLY beautiful shirts and ties, but I don't have that kind of budget. That's my only beef with DXL is the price of some of the items. Yes, you are using more fabric in a bigger guy's graphic t-shirt but really does it need to be three times the price of a regular guy's graphic t-shirt? You aren't using three times the fabric! Anyway, what I find sets DXL apart from other shopping experiences is the people. Bright and helpful friendly people which is beyond rare in most retail today. YOU CAN NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! Worst customer service ever! I ordered my products on a Sunday online, in stock, paid second day air. Wednesday comes around... No product delivered! I call and of the course the lady with the monotone voice pretends to 'care' about my experience, she says the product is on backorder! Well of course I'm upset by this point so I ask to speak with customer service. Here I am now 15 minutes later, still on hold with the company who says they 'care' about me. I have been here several times, I have to admit the overly attentive Customer Service I found off-putting the first trip. Maybe it was the shock because it is not typical these days. Also bigger guys are accustomed to stores not having much that they need and perhaps the service to go with. After a few subsequent visits I felt more comfortable with the attention. The sales people are very attentive and give lots of options and suggestions. They are quick to whisk your choices to the front to hold by the register so you can freely shop ( I realize it is also a Loss Prevention technique but I don't begrudge it.) On every visit I have received the same service. Always friendly and yes very attentive. I have also done some reflecting on my experiences and feel fine with the Customer Service style. The Salespeople are in fact doing their jobs, they are trying to sell clothes! I am still in control of my wallet but I find their effort at their job admirable. Also if one is concerned about too much attention I have found that game planning with a good "wing lady" like a wife or friend can give a little space to shop more freely if desired. The clothes and some of the prices were my second shock when visiting, one could drop a good deal of cash here. Further exploring revealed options for tighter purse strings. There is a good deal of clearance items and also more reasonably priced brands to choose from. The way I see it is that atleast there are options even if they might be expensive, how many times have you tried to shop at Big and Tall sections and come out frustrated by having found absolutely nothing? This store is the worst! It's super overpriced and every time my boyfriend and I have come in there's been a problem. We ordered a suit from them and it wasn't ready on the correct date. We once had to wait over an hour to check out and there was no one in front of us. They just took forever to enter our information and get his suit and allow us to pay. We went in on Saturday 4/11 to get a bathing suit real quick and the store was a wreck. I mean a wreck! Boxes everywhere with clothes spilling out and only 2 people working a Saturday afternoon. I appreciate that retail is a crazy world but come on man. Also, they carry tons of 4,5,6X and very few items that are 1-2X. It was a struggle to find swim trunks that were not 5X out of a brand new box that we had to dig through to find something that wasn't crazy looking. Also, it's really not fair that all these clothes are so wildly expensive. The cheapest bathing suit was $50. As was the case with Mike G, I also didn't expect much at Destination XL. However, I ended up having a very good experience. They were a little pushy when I first walked in, but I fended off 3 salespeople and browsed on my own, then called someone over when I needed help. I often have trouble finding pants with the right waist AND length. Many times I've left the old Casual Male with nothing. But here, I hit the jackpot and walked out with 5 pair of pants. The woman who ended up helping me was great. She made multiple trips to the back to get the right combos for me. The selection was great and the prices were fine. This was a very pleasant surprise. We've been here a few times for both my son and myself. Always have very good luck in finding nice looking merchandise and a fair price. They're not the cheapest around that's for sure but the closer well-made and look good. Came here for suit that I needed to hurry and they were able to alter the same day. During a half hour visit I only found a couple of items that weren't made in China - and those were made in Indonesia and the UK (at least the UK still has union shops). I am a size 2x shirt. But most 2x shirts do not fit me because they won't be long enough which forces me into the big and talk category. I avoided this store for the longest time because I assumed there would be ugly clothes in there. Boy I couldn't have been more wrong. This store has so much to offer. From casual to formal. I was so impressed that my first day in I spent 500 bucks and ordered something online because they were out of my size in the store. The salesmen are awesome! They offer you bottled water while you browse. That is a nice touch. I love the fact that they carry brands that I like- polo, nautica, Ralph Lauren, lucky etc. most big and tall selections in other stores really piss me off. In other stores I have the option of wearing something really unflattering or walk around dressed like a rapper!!( rocawear,Sean John, South Pole etc. I hate these brands!!) This Place Sucks. I am a big guy, but not too big, and everything here was either too big or too small! But that's beside the point; I could have come on a day where this stuff was sold out. That's fine and I could always come back. My problem is with the service. All of the employees were jerks, from the big younger guy who ignored me from the moment I walked in the door and the lady who would rather hide and fold clothes than help a customer, to the EXTREMELY RUDE and snotty older salesman walking the floor. I'm telling you, if you go there, watch out for him. He is not nice. You will know exactly who I am talking about as soon as you walk in. He wears glasses. He will NOT want to be bothered by helping you. I would have gotten better customer service shopping online. And that leads me to the other issue with this place, everything is ridiculously expensive! Practically jacket that you might be able to find in XXXL at another store or online, say at Old Navy, for $50 was $499! The casual flannel button up shirts were $80! NO WAY! Have been curious on DXL for some time. Wanted to go into one too to check out the price and selection. I did that today at the Aurora, CO store near I-225 & Alameda Ave. I've read several reviewers state the clerks seem to be "overly attentive" and I must agree. I was in need of a belt as well. The staff was too attentive wanting to continually show me this and show me that. I kept saying I was just looking and was buying a belt, which I had in hand at this point. Selection is good but pricing is real high. Anyway, I went to check out and the young lady at the counter was being trained by Mr. Manager guy. He tells her "You go ahead and check him out on your own." Now, she's a nice young lady just doing what she is told, she asks me for my phone number. I said "no thank you." He said it was for their "rewards" program. Mr. Manager pipes in and says to her "That's ok, just put him in the rewards program without a phone number". I look at him and say "Um, no thanks, I don't want your rewards program, I just want to buy the belt and leave." He then says to me "Oh, its a great program and you'll save money." I say to him "I don't want that, I get enough junk e-mail and mail, I just want to buy the belt and leave." He pipes back (so his staff can hear him) "Where do you shop now." So now I am getting peeved. I say "I usually shop where I don't get hassled trying to make a purchase." I know this isn't going well and I am going to leave. Mr. Manager continues "Well, we are just trying to save you money." At that point I pushed the belt across the counter and said "Ya know what? Just forget it, I'll go elsewhere to spend my money." I start to leave, and as I am walking out he pipes back "Have a nice day....." I just kept walking. So here is my message to DXL. I will never, NEVER, EVER shop at one of your stores EVER. I'll go back to Kaufmann's Big & Tall where you are treated with respect and their staff is highly professional. End of story..... read more
