I used to buy clothes that made me look thin, now I buy clothes that I can hide my fat under. Operation: Don't become my Mother has been compromised. Maybe I'm just getting older, which still isn't the greatest feeling but it's a slight cut above just getting fatter. so anyway, I found myself in the area and remembered that my girl, Nicole W, had written a shiny, happy, glowing review of A La Mode and that I needed to do a little bit of first-hand research on a shopping local for the holidays piece I've been working on. Walking in and seeing all the muted colors and statement accessories with gemstones immediately made me think I may be shopping a little above my age-range, but as I took a closer look I realized that it wasn't that the clothing was older, it was that it was more sophisticated than I'm used to, but I still liked it, and I'd bet my kind of boring mom and super hip aunt, young, skinny, perfect cousin and her beautiful three year-old daughter would also find a cornucopia of items worth coveting as well. It appeared as though I'd just stumble upon the perfect, shop for gifting something unique to just about every female in my family tree. I was particularly big fan of this purple/red/navy button-up blouse thing that was loose-fitting (euphemism for 'fat-hiding') and was nominally priced for only $34. If I had to describe the feel of A La Mode, I'd start by referencing Francesca's Collections (the shop, not the restaurants) but A La Mode has more jewelry and of a bit better quality (nothing stretchy rings) and less clothing that's more cozy and classic, less flashy and trendy, and also a bit more reasonably priced. I didn't end up buying the blouse because I'm trying out this new thing called 'saving monies', but I did tell myself that I could think it over, and if I still had that blouse on my mind next week, I was allowed to buy it. Plus it was something I could categorize at business-casual so it's kind of like an investment in my career, right? Right? Okay, I just really want the damn thing and I'm willing to work any angle to justify it. Is that so wrong? read more

For a cornucopia for all things shiny and accessorizing, A La Mode is a sure-fire bet. Whether you seek a comfy poncho or require a specific pair of hoops for a special ensemble, I'm betting they have it for you. This shop is uber cute. And affordable. And seriously filled to the brim with such a variety of jewelry, knicknacks, purses, wallets, a small selection of trendy clothing and even things for the little ones. Is everything uber high quality? Nah, not really, but most items seem to fall in the moderate range and are priced accordingly. Shopped at A La Mode tonight for a Christmas gift for my Mother-in-Law, who specifically directed me to the store. I didn't expect to go in and find things I loved too! The jewelry, accessories, and clothing there was unique - not like all the same stuff I've seen at other similar shops. There was so much to choose from, I had a hard time just picking out a few things. Ooh La La, A La Mode! Jewelery, scarfs, and tops, Oh my! A La Mode is a cute little boutique, located in downtown Arlington Heights. The ladies that work here are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. They have a vast amount of jewelery, mostly delicate to my liking. And, I have found all of their prices to be fair. Cute articles of clothing are sprinkled throughout the store. I only wish they had a larger selection of clothes. Most of the clothing items I have purchased from A La Mode have been by the brand Ya Los Angeles, if that helps give you an idea of what their style is. So, if you're in a pinch for a gift, some last minute jewelery, or a cute top, well then opt to shop local and pop into A La Mode. read more

My husband purchased several items at this store. We just moved from the city and miss the boutiques on armitage We believe in keeping business local and are new arlington Heighta natives. A brought the brand new with tags blouse that did not fit back to the store. Says "ala mode" on 1 of 3 tags. She refuses exchange without receipt. Then when I tried to find receipt in my purse she glared at me and said they had a 2 week exchange policy. WHAT??????? Never shop in there again. NEW ADDRESS: 13 E. Campbell by Design Toscano Rather surprised no other 'burbs Lady Yelpers have reviewed this. Anyway, A La Mode has recently moved into a charming French inspired space. So many cute and affordable purses, jewelry, hair stuff, gauzy scarves, even little girls' tutus ($18). Many of Jamie's stuff is priced between $15-$60, with all styles from retro-cute to glam and trendy. My personal crush is the fabric Maruca bags priced $5-$10 less than you'd find in other chic-chic boutiquey shops. There's many adorable purses and tasteful bling for dressy evenings. Plus they tell me how nice my mom is-really-she loves A la Mode. But truly, I'd still dig a la mode and the ladies there just 'cause they're so kind...not cause they dig my mom! read more

I have been shopping at ALM for about 2 years and have really felt like it is a friendship vs customer/retailer. Jamie, Jen, Danielle and all the gals are so nice and helpful. Their products are outstanding, their service is highly personal and their new place is adorned beautifully. The layout of the store is inviting for children, teens and adults and even Men too! I love how the shop is color coordinated, meaning they have several displays that showcase like colors - each display will have jewelry, purses, scarves, stationery, hair products, belts all within the same color scheme...and there are a few specialty stations like for weddings and children. Been a fan since its days on Northwest Highway and though I do not get to visit as often since I no longer live in the area, I am always thinking of ways to visit! There is a wide variety of selection and so many different styles to choose.I also appreciate how the store is organized by color and style so you don't feel overwhelmed when I'm looking for that perfect accessory! The prices are reasonable for such a unique selection and good quality. It's about $8-$20 earrings, $12-$25 bracelets, $15-$40 necklaces, $10-$50 accessories, and $30-$60 clothing pieces. I wish A La Mode was open a little longer in the evenings during the week and on Sundays so I'd have more opportunities to shop, but it's always a treat when I do get a chance to stop in! read more

Really loved this little store. My sis and I stumbled upon it on one of our monthly pilgrimages to CPK. The staff was so friendly. We probably looked a little wilted from the humidity but they treated us very nicely. I was very pleasantly supplied by their wares too. I found myself tempted by this gorgeous picture hat, a lovely plum clutch, and a delicate gold cuff bracelet. I also really loved the fashion first aid kit. My new favorite store! Was recommended by a co-worker to go there in search of hostess gifts for my Bachelorette party in a few weeks. I was quickly greeted and helped throughout the entire process. I didn't catch her name, but the girl with really short hair was an absolute pleasure. I ended up finding awesome gifts for my girls, a new purse for me and chatted for about ten minutes about the wedding. A La Mode is by far the best boutique store that Arlington Heights has to offer. On Saturday my daughter is turing 0-teen as she says (10 to the rest of us) and the staff has graciously accepted the task of handing each girl a pre purchased goody bag. Unique pieces (clothing, handbags, jewelry) at affordable prices for all ages - A La Mode has something to offer every shopper. Gifts are found with ease as are last minute earrings. I visit Chicagoland twice a year. I never fail to make a visit to A La Mode! The service is supurb and the selection is devine. The store has something for all tastes. The collection is unique and AFFORDABLE! When I visit from Seattle it is a pleasure to find gifts for others and of course, myself. The store is full, and is separated by color. If you're looking for cute clothes, jewelry, and accessories, then you should come to this cute little boutique. It's a little small, but it has a great selection, and it is beautifully organized. Most of their items range from $30 to $100. It would be great if the prices were a little lower, but they are decent. I have several tops and earrings from here, and my only note is that their clothes definitely need to be dry cleaned. Besides that, I love what I have bought. They have a range of styles and sizes. If A La Mode continues to be well organized and carries a good selection of clothing and accessories, I will definitely keep coming back. read more
