Yep - I'll concur with Helena B...Upstairs is adorably random. If you seek a cornucopia of gifty,…read morecute-ish items, Upstairs Boutique is your jam. The store is owned by a lovely lady who curates goods from all over. I was especially a fan of the leather cuffs accented by metal rings and the completely over the top cute stitched change purses with random sayings plastered on them. At $5 a piece, these precious little change purses are the perfect on-hand gift. My personal fave it the red and goldenrod circus-esque option that says Boss Lady on one side and "Show Em The Bacon That Yer Makin" on the other. Beyond those goodies, Upstairs Boutique has a small selection of clothing and a baby/kids area near the back. If you're feeling gifty, drop by Upstairs Boutique.

Very disappointing experience. The lady who runs the shop is rather arrogant, and she has…read morerestrictive store hours if you are a working person. I purchased an item at the shop a few years ago, and after getting the thumbs down from my daughter, I returned it, only to be handed a useless piece of paper--a store credit. I am very good about recalling details and do not remember receiving verbal notice about "store credit only returns" nor do I recall being told the store credit is only good for one year. I just literally handed that woman $55 for absolutely nothing while being forced to honor her shoddy business practices. In this day and age with wonderful selections and store policies, elsewhere, I don't see how she continues this narrow and unethical business practice. Her clothing/gift selection is certainly nothing special, so you'd be wiser, in this case, to not shop local.

For years, my wife would find clothing and accessories at a store called A La Mode in Arlington…read moreHeights. First when they were on Northwest Highway and now at their location on Campbell Street. The same ownership opened a sister store a few doors down on Campbell called Charisma. A La Mode is still great, but I have found so many gifts for her at Charisma because I think it caters more towards a mature woman (trying to be PC here). My most recent experience was a Christmas gift for my wife. The store was locked, but I knew A La Mode was related, so I went in and asked for help. As has happened in the past, they cheerfully opened it and helped me with my task. I have often dealt with the daughter and she has great taste and an enthusiastic customer service spirit. I described what I was looking for and she had a few suggestions, but nothing hit. I noticed a display and she found the size I was looking for and it was an instance success. She even said the blue would work well with my wife's eyes. (so cool she remembers her). My wife says I never have given her a gift from Charisma that she hasn't loved, and this was no exception. In a time where we are click happy to quickly make a purchase and have it delivered to our home, it's such a good feeling to have special attention, someone to bounce ideas off of and have more of a value added experience through great customer service. If you're a guy, don't be intimidated because they will listen and help. Even if your wife's eyes are brown.

I'm the first to be a bit queasy and unenthused as soon as I see the word(s) Company Store, outlet,…read moreand/or no returns. Especially when national stores such as Neiman Marcus, Tory Burch, Anthropologie, Kate Spade, J Crew, Nordstrom, etc., etc., have actual year round, fantastic sales and/or gifts with purchase, it doesn't seem necessary to buy what all too often wears like a "seconds" quality from a second tier outlet. Not so at Eileen Fisher. I'm not certain where the "Company" comes in to the fold, since quality and style at the outlet, so to speak, appears the exact same as EF on sale at NM, etc. Either I'm a complete fool, or they're the real thing on a clearance sale. Most items are in no ways cheap or fast fashion prices. EF sells the classics in natural fibers and recycled fabrics. It's not unusual to see a cozy soft Fall coat made of Alpaca and sewn in Italy to a Tencel jersey dress cut & sewn in NYC, knit & dyed in Montreal. Each clothing label tells how the fabric was responsibly made and the final product manufacturing that went into completing each item sold. Be forewarned, the store is packed to the brim, and dressing rooms force a waiting line, albeit, an efficient waiting line. Especially during one of their fantastic (advertised) sales and sample sales. It's worth the wait, and worth one's time combing the racks for something sharp, fashion forward, well made and comfy. For shorter girls, they have a lot of petite items and for taller girls, there's a huge amount of regular sizes. Same for style. There's things for grandma's, 20-something's and everyone in between. A great store all-around, and what's best about the brand is their clothes last and last longer than you want to wear them. They also have an exchange policy of $5.00 towards new EF's, which I'm not certain how that works, other than I am familiar in the quality of their clothes which endure and can thus be recycled from one wearer to another. No fast fashion to sadly end up in a landfill, here. EF clothes can potentially last a lifetime!

As others have stated, staff here is THE WORST…read more No greeting when you enter. No offering help or info. No offering a fitting room when I have an armful of stuff. And the group behind the register literally couldn't be bothered to stop chatting to ring me up when I found something. They pretty much just refuse to acknowledge there is another human being in the store. Selection is decent, but it's a really frustrating shopping experience. I will only buy here if I can't find it online or elsewhere.
