I usually go to a place like this four or five times before I consider writing a review - this can sometimes take a year or more because my wife and I go to many, many places for lunch and dinner. I have to admit, from the first through the fourth time we went here for lunch, we had delicious sandwiches and/or subs. It was the fifth time - this past Friday afternoon - that it all came to a screeching halt.
My wife and I are very much alike, except when it comes to eating out - I place all my faith in the people making the food, I don't keep track of time, and I can let a lot of things go when it comes to service and quality of food, but this is in direct correlation to the amount of money being spent. My wife - well, she's a bit more discerning and watchful - this is probably because she ran a cafe for a decade - in any case, I was thankful she paid attention this past Friday afternoon.
Fridays at this place have a lunch special of a Roast Beef on Onion Roll - we both wanted roast beef, so we hopped in the car and headed over - we get there and there's no onion rolls left, which is fine...we both got over it - i told my wife what I wanted on mine and I went about my usual routine, which consists of me walking around the store, checking out everything, seeing if I want to take anything home - basically keeping myself busy - as I know my wife likes to make sure our food is made the way it should be (probably because she knows I won't eat it if it's too far outside what I wanted in the first place).
I hear my wife say to me "that's nowhere near the amount of roast beef we've gotten in the past - I am going to say something..." I gave the thumbs up and heard her ask for extra roast beef, and didn't really pay attention to the response - but judging from the look on her face, she wasn't thrilled.
Over the next five minutes, I was on the other end of the store and I heard her say a couple of things back and forth across the counter, but nothing too obvious that something was terribly wrong...and I watched the guy who was making our sandwiches go into the back with them in each hand - not once, but twice...and come back out. That seemed odd to me.
Next thing I know, my wife is visibly upset and makes her way to our car out front.
I go back in inside, pay for the food, and get in the car. That's when it really went downhill.
My wife tells me that the guy making our sandwiches cut more roast beef and then asked her if it was enough - then showed the sandwiches to who I assume is the owner - who then literally laughed and said nothing else.
Then this guy takes our sandwiches out back, just the bread and roast beef on them - not once, but twice - and come back - why would anyone do that?
And why would this guy not be wearing gloves while handling roast beef and our subs?
Then my wife tells me he shortchanged us originally because he didn't want to get a new slab of roast beef - and was handling everything all this time without gloves - and when he pulled the plastic off the new roast beef the entire slab flew into the sink - and with no gloves just rubbed the beef off and started slicing it.
You can imagine how angry I was that my wife felt embarrassed with those two jerks, which made me want to go back in and punch his lights out - but can you imagine how grossed out I was about the two times in the back with our food and mishandling the roast beef with no gloves?
This place was damned lucky I didn't go back in and punch them for embarrassing my wife and even luckier that I didn't report them to the Board of Health.
Shameful attitude and conditions. I will not only not ever go back to this place, I will take every opportunity to let anyone and everyone know how deplorable it is. And I know a LOT of people. They dodged a bullet that day, but created an enemy in the process. read more
