Sunday am visit. Place busy but not crazy. Looked like enough staff. Food very tasty--a 3 or 4 star and looked home made and fresh ingredients. Décor good, place clean. Food quantity fine--even small dishes were plenty. Food could have been a bit hotter. Prices in line. Biggest complaint was time. Suspect a dysfunctional or understaffed kitchen, although they've been in business long enough to know. We waited 45 minutes for simple egg, bacon and country fried potato dishes. Unacceptable wait, no matter what restaurant--thus the 2 star. Staff seemed friendly. Yes, I had to reflect that in the tip--"tip" means "to ensure promptness," remember? Return? definitely for the food, definitely not if it's always this slow. Maybe B-ham folk are more laid back and don't mind a long wait. People there did seem to linger a bit and not seem too bothered by it. We like a little more speed. read more

The food was spectacular, and the prices were extremely reasonable. Best diner food I've ever had. The burger was big and delicious, with all the fixings. I recommend getting the onions grilled -- they're really good. The french fries have a crunchy outer batter, which was super tasty. Normally, I don't like an open restaurant layout because it feels exposed, but I like the feel of this place. It was really comfortable. Only gripe is that I wish they were open later -- they'd be perfect for late-night dining. read more

Had to give their biscuits and gravy a try so we stopped in on our NW vacation. I wish the biscuits could have been more fluffy but they were still good. We left Vancouver on a Sunday morning but wanted to get across the border into Washington before grabbing breakfast. We're glad we found this spot in Bellingham. I ordered the salmon eggs benedict. I love benedicts. They are the perfect breakfast comfort food for me and they did them right at this shop. The smoked Salmon was great and was full of great flavor. Headed down to Bellingham early one Sunday to beat the boarder line up. We decided to grab some breakfast while we waited for the stores to open. We got the 2-2-2 ( 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes) and the standard AFPs, 2 eggs, and biscuit meal. The meal was pretty standard until we got to the pancakes. I hate those dry fluffy from a box pancakes most places serve. These pancakes were delicious just like mom makes and mom makes the best pancakes. We fought over who would get the last bite of these puppies. They made the meal. The AFPs (their specialty) were nothing to write home about. Better than McCain not as good as Bon's.The biscuit on the other hand? Bland, dry and boring. Maybe I'm just used to the southern style flaky and buttery ones. Relatively unimpressed. The waitress was grouchy and short. My veggie omelette was good and large but my cheddar grits were sad. Enjoyed a wonderful brunch while visiting Bellingham. Sunday at 10am there was a 10 minute wait (seating is controlled so the servers aren't overloaded), followed by great service and delicious food. I had a pancake with blueberries plus eggs, bacon and fried potatoes. Everything was really delicious, fresh, hot and tastes homemade. Only wish...cook the bacon a bit more. Long wait of 55 minutes for a nothing special breakfast. I've been there multiple times for breakfast and the American fried potatoes are good. The smoked salmon omelet (made from liquid eggs in a carton) was way too salty. The pancakes are from Krustez pancake mix. The biscuit and sausage gravy were both below average. Sorry to be critical but there are much better places to go in Bellingham for breakfast. read more

Great place for good food. Large portions- may require doggy bags. My wife and I get the veg omelet with a side of pancakes and we just share the meal which is plenty. The kids get little pancakes shaped like bears which cost almost nothing (uh, $1.50?? Don't know, can't remember). If it's busy you'll be waiting for your food but they're pretty good about coffee refills. They're lunch menu isn't bad either though I haven't explored much beyond the Reuben. read more

So I showed up at Diamond Jim's with my boyfriend and his two roommates at 12:50. They close at 3, so it seemed like a reasonable time to show up. We got seated quickly in a large booth. Seemed decent. But was I fucking wrong. Our orders were taken quickly, and that's when the wait began. In a half full diner, it took our food (two Eggs Benedict and orders of eggs and hashbrowns) 50 minutes to arrive to us. When we asked a waitress how much longer the wait would be, she nervously laughs and says, "Uh, I don't know. Sometimes they tell me and sometimes they don't" and walked away. We then proceeded to each receive our food. One. By. One. There was absolutely no communication between the front, the back, and the kitchen. It was absolutely horrendous and disgusting and I'm appalled that I took an hour and a half out of my busy day to be treated to nothing but cold, flavorless eggs and disgustingly greasy hashbrowns that created a film of oil on the entirety of my plate. 0/10. Decided to give this place a try for breakfast this morning. Arrived on a Sunday at 10:00am. We expected they would be busy but didn't expect a 25 minute wait. There were probably 20 people waiting to be seated and with only four chairs at the entrance we had to stand the whole time. They have it set up so you walk in, write your name down, how many are in your party and then wait to be called. That all sounds fine except we noticed several tables vacant and several customers waiting. The young man who was doing the seating seemed confused about what to do. He'd come up front, look at the names, then walk away. We watched this go in for over 20 minutes. Diamond Jim. If you're reading this, get your waiting customers seated and get them coffee. I heard several folks say"let's go somewhere else" and leave. Lost sales! Once seated the food was excellent and waitress was really nice. We'll go back for the food but they really need to get the front end under control. Went back here last Saturday for breakfast. Food and prices are excellent but they are WAY under staffed! Lots of vacant tables yet they have the "wait to be seated" sign up and everyone has to stand (because there are only four chairs in the waiting area) and wait until the only waitress in the place gets a chance to run up front to seat people. The owner is losing lots of customers but apparently could care less. read more

Stopped in here this morning for breakfast. It was pretty crowded but we got a table relatively quick, which was good because there wasn't much room to wait and it didn't seem like the host was up to the task of calling out names if we didn't wait inside. No big deal, they had free newspapers to browse through, which was nice. After getting our table we quickly decided on our meal, my gf went with the eggs benedict with tomatoes and I went with some item that I've never seen on any other menu anywhere...I called it the "and" meal. It had 3 eggs, and AFP's, and sausage gravy and a biscuit, and 2 sausage links and 2 strips of bacon and a ham steak. I wasn't that hungry but I couldn't resist that kind of offering. The food came our pretty quickly, especially considering the time. The taste was pretty good, I really enjoyed the AFP's and the biscuit. The portions were absolutely huge. Good stuff. read more

Food, for our party of 2, took 30 minutes; this is very long for a fully staffed breakfast place that wasn't even busy. The fried potatoes were under cooked and hard, but somehow slightly burned too, nothing like I expected since the menu seems to make a big deal out of them. On the plus side, the place has a cool diner feel and seemed reasonably clean. Aside from the wait time for the food, the service was good and coffee refills were quick. I love the food at diamond jims! But the service the last 3 times has been horrible. We get seated or told to find a clear table and they don't even look at us today we waited for 30 mins without even acknowledgement that we were there. The table next to us was two young girls and they got menus before we were even formally greeted! I even tried getting the waitresses attention and they just ignored me. I was appalled. We left hungry and mad. I sadly will not be back because of that which makes me sad because the food is amazing. But I refuse to spend money at a place with horrible customer service. read more

D.J.'s was voted the best breakfast place in Bellingham, so I've wanted to go and have breakfast for quite awhile. The service was good, and the food okay but pancakes and biscuits not hot., and it was the coffee that ultimately spoiled it. It tasted old, bitter, and kinda 'smoky". It was not hot either. Others had made this same comment in their reviews, and I'm wondering why you didn't read these. We were told by the waiter that people had commented on it in the restaurant also but that the owner liked the coffee. Are you trying to please you or your customers???? Well we have now eaten at D.J.'s, and we do not plan on coming back. Our bill for two breakfasts was over $20.00. And as we left we commented, "Been there done that". read more

Took a group of out-of-town business guests here for breakfast on a Sunday morning in August. Not a cool experience. Waited for 20 minutes for someone to take our order. Waited 45 more minutes before physically getting up from the booth, walking back to the counter area to ask when we could expect our food, because our waitress was MIA. Was told they were "very busy" and food would be out in 5-10 minutes. 15 minutes later when waitress came to our table and we asked again, telling her we needed the check because our guests had flights to catch, she says "I suppose you want your food boxed to go now." Wow. Come to find out she was one of the owners. No apologies for the poor service, no discount offered, nothing but rudeness. Will never return, and will never recommend to friend, family, colleagues or customers. read more

It's just okay. The service here is really slow, and it would benefit them to higher some additional wait staff and cooks. Their breakfast menu is very egg heavy, even for a breakfast joint, and it would be nice if there was some variety. My mom found her potatoes overdone and dry, but my biscuits and gravy were alright.
