Called Wed afternoon, he came over first thing Thursday morning, Replaced the broken cable, which is why I called, and adjusted and lubed both garage doors because he saw they weren't adjusted correctly. Ok, our garage door was having problems, so I turned to yelp 4 maybe even 5 years ago. After reading the previous yelp reviews, my overconfident husband (who thinks he's super competent and knows he is also cantankerous) thought that the guy from dexter door would be really good at his job. I called and he sounded to the point and came out when he said he would. Very prompt and straight to work! I tried talking to him a little bit and found that he was indeed a tiny bit gruff, which I found amusing but also disconcerting. He made my husband seem like a pleasant extrovert. That was a nice perk :-) Anyway, he fixed the garage door but it still squeaked horribly. Said he put wd40 on it and it would work it's way in. A week later still squeaky, so hubby went and put lubricant on hinges. No longer squeaky, but the door just still seemed like it was straining. However it did still open and close. About a 6 mos to a year later, we had another garage door company come out and look at the door, since they were coming to repair some trim work on the sides. This other company did something with it (can't remember what they said anymore but it made sense at the time) and we haven't had a problem since! So yeah. That's all. read more

Guy seems like a real loose cannon. Saw him driving the company truck through Saline. He pulled out right in front of someone from a redlight. When. The guy passed him at the passing zone, the garage guy had the audacity to flip him off. Not the type of guy I'd want working on my garage. read more

The first time we had Dexter Garage out the owner/operator came out and promptly repaired the problem. He knew his stuff but his attitude was somewhere between unbelievably gruff to outright rude. He won't try to upsell you and is very honest but that honestly extends to his disdain for customers. The second time we called Dexter Garage (about a year later) he complained that our garage had too much stuff in the way for him to work and he needed a 4 foot (!!?!) berth at the front for him to even begin... and this despite him knowing that we couldn't get the door open to move anything out... so yeah. -2 for Gryffindor and -7 for Dexter Garage Door. read more

Called this company about my door issue. Super crabby guy answered, I assume the owner, and was condescending and rude when I tried to explain the problem I was having. Spoke in a really harsh tone. He basically yelled at me because I didn't know the make of the door. Told him I'd check and he said he was busy and couldn't wait! Didn't want this guy coming to my house after that! The owner/tech came out the same day I called with a broken cable. He fixed garage door promptly and charged a reasonable rate. He's not a chatty fellow, but he is efficient and competent. I would recommend the company and will use them again. I rarely write reviews, but thought Dexter Garage Door was not accurately represented in some reviews. read more

Tim, the owner, came to my house to fix a broken torsion spring. Tim was very professional and did a great job. I called Dexter Garage Door and the call went to voicemail because Tim was on another job. Tim called new back within a half hour and came to my house an hour later. Great service. He came out on very short notice, even though his day was busy. I live in a condo and I had accidentally ran my car into the side of the garage, breaking off a piece of it, so the garage wouldn't close. Knowing my condo association would complain about my garage door being open, I asked my friend if she knew of anyone in the Dexter area who could fix my door. She recommended Dexter Garage Door. He came out and fixed my garage door, as well as installed two garage door remotes, in about 30 minutes. I've read the reviews here about him being "rude." If you want someone to kiss your ass, this isn't the guy for you. If you want someone honest, who will do a great and thorough job, and not overcharge you, then definitely give him a call. I know for a fact that other companies would have overcharged me and sold me things I didn't need. I'm a single mom, so the fact that Dexter Garage Door didn't BS me and charge me double, means a lot. read more

Tim serviced our garage door opener today and it was a great experience. I called late yesterday afternoon and we set a time for first thing today. He was even a bit early. He had accurately diagnosed the problem over the phone when we first talked and was ready to go on arrival. The price was reasonable and the service was very complete. Not only did he replace the stripped drive gear assembly, but he lubricated the door and taught me how best to take care of it going forward in order to minimize my expenses, all at the price originally quoted. Tim's service was fast, personable, reasonably-priced, extremely thorough and informative. I really don't see how you could do better. I'm happy to offer my enthusiastic endorsement. read more

Very rude. I called him because he advertised on his website that he sells parts, but was condescending and derogatory about homeowners who plan to take care of fixing broken parts themselves instead of paying him $150 to do it. He referred to homeowners as 'stupid people who think they know what they're doing'. My husband decided to call Overhead Door in Whitmore Lake after I told him that I refused to do business with this company. The guys at Overhead Door were professional, helpful and friendly. He even carried the new part out and put it in my car for me. After 20 minutes, my husband had the part replaced and the door rebalanced and our garage door was as good as new. Not all customers are incapable of doing a little research and tackling a repair themselves - and saving themselves $150. I'll never do business with this company. read more
